Lived around the ELA area my entire life and for the 1st time, we stopped by Teresitas for Brunch. I must say it was the best choice to make. We ordered the Chilaquiles with Eggs and Steak. Mind you the steak portion piece is not huge BUT the entire plate was worth it. The GREEN chilaquiles are spicy the Red is just as good but not spicy at all. The servers are pleasant and courteous, the place gets full but well worth it. I recommend this place for the environment, food, and staff. read more

I used to come here often with my friend my mentor and on dia de las Madres I came here in memory of my friend as this was her favorite restaurant. I've noticed after COVID and everyone reopened the customer service is very poor they hardly acknowledge you anymore If you come in alone they treat you differently shove you off in a little corner they don't tend to you to check and see if you have water if everything's okay I had to ask for salsa and this place used to be great for customer service. Will I come back The beans are good The food is okay I hope the service gets better but I won't come back anytime soon I'll give it a couple of months maybe six maybe they'll have some staff change or improve in their customer service training. If I spend money in your establishment I like My customer service to be just as good as the food. read more

I have been going here for over 20 years. It feels like I am eating in my grandmother's kitchen every time. The menu provides comfort Mexican food and has been open for over 38 years. Each time I come here I see familiar faces at this family owned restaurant. Teresita is the mother and the amazing cook whose recipes are served. Tony is usually behind the counter and manages the place, very kind family. This restaurant is located in East LA and has a wonderful traditional Mexican decor. It has its own parking lot and many inside tables. During the current pandemic the restaurant had converted part of the gated parking lot to covered outside dining but right now the county has closed that too because of COVID. I hope they will be able to reopen for dining soon. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. When you park in the parking lot you can either have your takeout delivered to your car or if available sit inside at there many tables or large booths. I usually come here during my lunch hour to order a lunch special. My favorite is the sopes lunch, which includes beans, rice and a drink with two sopes. Today I ordered the chicken and carnitas sopes. Both were perfectly cooked, the sopes being tender corn flavor but thick enough to hold up the weight if the generous toppings. The meat on both were generous in their portions with the chicken as my favorite. The chicken is always a moist white meat, so good. I really dislike biting into a dry piece of chicken or one with a lot of gristle, I do not have that problem here. The rice is flavorful and beans are creamy. I was never in love it the chips or salsa but that is ok as I come here for the entrees. Now that my grandparents are no longer on this earth this is the closest I will get to homemade Mexican traditional food. I am grateful that they are open. They do close two weeks every August for a family trip and I was just told they will close 12/21-12/31/2020. read more

BIG PORTIONS! BIG TASTE! I came here on a Sunday morning and expected a big crowd and a long wait. There was a crowd but we were seated right away. Teresita's has a unique charm with it's roots deep within the Latino community; I felt at home right away. The portions are big and the prices are not overwhelming. We ordered a plate of grilled nopales and chips as a starter (you don't see that very often). It was delicious. Mind you, I have to watch my weight and it was easy to find an authentic Mexican dish here that was tasty yet wouldn't destroy my diet. I also ordered veggie tacos which were pretty good; 3 tacos with potato, nopales, tomato, cheese. Victor doesn't care about diets so he had a traditional Mexican breakfast of refried beans, carne asada, huevos, nopales, and diced potatos. Plus, lots of tortillas! The information on Yelp is correct for Teresita's day open and closed. But don't trust Teresita's own website, it says they are open all Thanksgiving week 2022. When I arrived at 12 noon Tuesday to meet a pal for lunch there, it was padlocked. Looked in the windows, no one was there. As I was about to leave a man in a white pick up was pulling out of their parking lot, he told me they were closed all week. On the positive side there is plenty of off street parking, and the restaurant itself is very clean and well kept. But of course they should update their own website. And I agree with other comments that their food is rather bland. Also their portions are smaller than most any other Mexican restaurant. Looks like where lawyers and doctors might dine. I'll keep this short. I came to here for lunch with some colleagues who absolutely love the authenticity of Teresita's. The restaurant is located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The restaurant itself was quite clean and the service was friendly and fast. The food, however, was quite mediocre. I was extremely hungry, Iso i did enjoy my taquitos lunch. I do love a good flan, so I ordered some for dessert and found it quite blah. It seemed machine made so I don't recommend. Plenty of parking in their own parking lot. read more

Authentic food! Long time customer, first time finally writing a well deserved review. I've been going since my early 20's when it sat on a hill, in a much smaller building type of house. I received the best service from the hands of Teresita herself. Kind and bright face, soft spoken and soft mannered. She is a legend in her own right and has been one of the contributing architects to the community, bring families together to enjoy her cuisine and loved poured in recipe dishes. Please never close. It was nice seeing the owner interacting with her customers, and showing her love for what she does, and spares on her free time and out her good will, like donations to places that had been hit by catastrophic events, also I was struggling this morning with a personal issue and this visit somehow gave reassurance. Anyway, back to our main topic "food" Teresita's it's a Mexican place, they have a wide variety of dishes from breakfast to lunch and dinner, I had the huevos con machaca and my wife huevos rancheros, the food was super fresh. This is as authentic as it comes! We have been coming here for more than 5yrs now and never once have had a bad experience, busy or slow still great service! Seeing a couple of 1 star reviews and the reason for the nitpicking and disrespectful comments is outrageous to me. One reviewer said "to the servers get out of there" yet did not tip on a party of 8?! The servers, manager/owner and Mrs Teresita herself; keep up the amazing job and reminding us of authentic home cooked Mexican meals. We were in Montebello and looked for Mexican food in East Los. Since Teresita's had 4 stars, we headed over. I usually don't order menudo because I am usually disappointed with restaurant menudo, but I decided to try it. It had a canned flavor and it had onion in it. I did like that it has hominy. Especially if your family is from Zacatecas or Jalisco, you will find the nuanced twists in the enchiladas, nopales n salsas. Just like your family probably made at home.
