If Customers Are an Inconvenience, Just Say That" -- I went to try Teriyaki Madness for the first time at the Pleasanton location (6455 Owens Dr), and honestly, the experience completely killed any interest I had in the food before I even got to order. For context, I've lost over 150 pounds and am very intentional about what I eat. I don't typically eat out, so when I do, I ask questions to make informed choices. Apparently, that was too much to ask of the employee at the front register. From the moment I walked in, he was completely disengaged--more focused on his phone than on doing his job. When I tried asking basic questions about the menu, he was clearly irritated, gave minimal effort responses, and made it obvious I was bothering him. So I stepped away to look things up myself. After figuring it out on my own (since customer service wasn't an option), I went back to order. He was again on his phone, rolled his eyes when I approached, and greeted me with a flat "what do you want." As I started ordering, his attitude got worse--sarcastic tone, dismissive behavior, and even laughing at me when I asked a simple question. At that point, I asked him directly if I was bothering him. His response? "Yes." So I told him to have a good day and walked out. I've never had a first-time experience so off-putting that it completely erased any desire to try the food, but this did it. If asking questions about what I'm putting into my body is considered an inconvenience, then I'll gladly take my business somewhere else. To make it worse, I was on my break--which is only 30 minutes--and I wasted a good portion of it coming here to try this place, only to be treated like that. Figured maybe the high price would mean good quality ingredients. I was wrong. Mushy rice, thin meh meat reminiscent of like tv dinner meat, and tasteless uncrisp veggies. Super slid spot if you want a simple, no frills, clean meal! There were a variety of options and this place reminded me of a Hawaiian bbq spot. The meat and protein options are lean and low fat with items such as chicken thighs, breast, steak, and other vegetarian options. Believe me when I say that this place has HUGE portions. I got the spicy chicken teriyaki and steak and not going to lie, it was actually pretty spicy! I also got a side of steamed veggies on top of brown rice. Was shopping around at Costco and saw this place along the way and decided to give it a try. Was expecting some near fast food style teriyaki rice and chicken to serve a small craving as I have not had anything like this in a while and unfortunately even with lowered expectations this place did not even come close to satisfying in any way, shape or form. The menu itself looked promising enough with multiple protein options and several additional types of chicken aside from the standard grilled teriyaki chicken such as battered spicy orange chicken and katsu chicken along with salmon and steak options. You can pick your base as white, brown or fried rice along with noodle yakisoba options. All bowls have option to add veggies so it is nice to have multiple options to configure up a bowl of your choice and preferences. The problem is when all of those options are below average. I chose the large 2 protein option with spicy orange chicken and katsu chicken with fried rice where as my partner went with the medium steak and brown rice option with one med drink. Was a bit surprised at the bill of 40 bucks so assumed the food would be of slightly higher quality. It was good to see that all bowls are prepared to order so it should be at the very least fresh one would assume. When the food was served I was initially impressed with the portion sizes as there appeared to be healthy amount of the protein as the steak bowl was filled to the edges for the med bowl and it appeared to be a decent amount for the large 2 protein bowl. Once I started digging into the large bowl it all went downhill in every facet. The portion of spicy orange chicken was pretty sparse with too many all batter pieces and only a small amount of actual chicken pieces. The chicken itself was so okay and about on par with your average american style orange chicken from Panda or any american chinese joint. The Katsu was an okay amount and at least crispy but a pretty thin cut of chicken but tasted decent. Once you dig past the thin layer of protein you end up with what might actually be the worst veggie fried rice you can find in the east bay; I am trying not to sound dramatic here but it was truly terrible. Overall soggy, no flavor, huge chunks of white rice that was not broken up properly and just way too much of it. The stir fried veggies were also flavorless and unappetizing but at lease appeared to be fresh and mostly crisp. My partner fared slightly better as the steak was decently flavored but probably overcooked and not as tender. There was a decent amount of it so I guess you should go with the 1 protein med bowl for better ratio. The brown rice was passable but also flavorless along with the veggies again. About the only thing that was actually good was the teriyaki sauce which you will need TONS of to add any sort of flavor to get the rice and veggies down. Even at HALF the price I paid I would not consider coming back again. The one thing I will say is that I forgot to try the regular base teriyaki chicken which might be decent but I will not be coming back to try again. For comparison sake Suki Hana at the Premium Outlets is much better and Sarku at Valley Fair in SJ is tops for this type of cuisine if that is what you are looking for. read more

****DoorDash that ended up being so screwed that I picked the order up. I placed the order for a buy one, get one bowl with 2 proteins and DoorDash server glitched and only placed an order for one. So I called the restaurant and they advised me to reach out to DoorDash support. I did, no help at all. 20 minutes later the restaurant calls me back asking if things are fixed. They weren't and then DoorDash canceled my order. I asked if it would be easier for me to come to the restaurant and since the answer was yes, I got to meet the nicest people working here. They understood the issue and they fixed the whole problem. The order ended up being canceled again on DoorDash some how. I left there with fresh food, what I was supposed to have, a free drink, and was told there was extra meat in the dishes for the inconvenience. When I tell you I had this meal for 3 meals lol they weren't kidding about the added meat. But I was blown away how they rectified the situation so quickly and went above and beyond. Disappointed, went in to try to understand what was gluten free and the staff wasn't very knowledgeable. I ordered something with the hopes I could find the information only, and there was nothing avalable. I then asked about the sauce being gluten free and they mentioned the green soy sauce was 'gluten free' which was incorrect it's just low sodium. Overall, at least so far including the soft grand opening and grand opening a solid 4.5 out of 5. But, located in a newly vips retail center by Chick-fil-A. And since these are brand new buildings , the interiors is very neat and clean. Starting off with soft opening, the cashier was very polite and patient with taking my order. The order itself was wrong, it was mid-picked and I didn't get the spicy chicken teriyaki, but did get the steak teriyaki. While I didn't get a chance to try the steak, I did have a regular chicken teriyaki and that was pretty good. The taste was mostly there and the fried rice was pretty good too. The egg roll was above average and the gyozas were very good too and they still still had a slight crunch to it, even though I left them sit alittle too long. But, having 2 free meals and $2 for the appetizers were definitely a grand slam. For the grand opening, the cashier was very polite and patient. The wait consider it was the grand opening morning was pretty quick imo. As for this meal, the regular chicken teriyaki bowls were $6 for the grand opening and there was definitely a slight difference on n terms of quality of food. The chicken this time had a nice char to it and you could taste the smoke. The brown rice was good, slightly gooey so probably definitely similar to the white in terms of texture. As for the price and proportions, sort in my head the proportions just seems to be a tad small when versus the price but it's not like it a huge difference. Maybe with the app and getting the rewards it'll probably even out in my head. Anyways, I would say imo teriyaki city might hold a slight edge in terms of price versus proportions and types of food. If madness keeps up with a decent char on the protein and also due to it being much closer to home versus teriyaki city, I'll probably ending up eating here more often due to how close it is to work and home. read more

The bad is: Spicey teriyaki sauce tastes kind of like chef boyardee ravioli sauce, kind of a cheap starchy tomato flavor, not good. The steamed veggies look sad and crumpled up.. over steamed maybe? The onions are cut into thin slivers like they are going to put them into a cheesesteak sandwich. Should have cut the onions into quarters or at least bigger chunks so they didn't turn all slimey and lose their crunch. He said delicious so I went inside. The restaurant was clean and the staff very kind and helpful. I ordered spicy chicken teriyaki with white rice and veggies and the Teriyaki Steak with veggies. The largest size was 8 oz. I think. Anyway the food was delicious and fresh! Veggies crisp and crunchy and the Steak and chicken perfect! The hot sauce was also excellent. 10-14-24 a Monday I ordered the Mad Dash $2 off deal chose the spicy steak bowl. In order to get $2 off, you have to choose the curbside check in option. I also opted to provide my vehicles detail just in case they couldn't locate me. Ok seems easy right? The order said it will take 10 minutes and ready 3:54 pm. My food came out immediately... even before I had finished paying. That might be a red flag and indeed it was. My chicken was dry, bland and overcooked. As if had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. Parts of it were burnt and it just was not good at all. The rice was soggy and too much.
