The service was 5 star. Food and prices bring the rating way down. The rolls and salad are good-loved the tang of the dressing. The menu consists of 5 entree choices: salmon looked good, chicken with couscous not so much, I had the outrageously overpriced and mediocre short rib, and for our party of 8 it was the shrimp scampi pasta for the win. The shrimp were large and well cooked. The fifth entree choice is eggplant which I didn't see. Dessert was a sorbet with berries-always a good choice, and dark chocolate pots de creme which I loved-it had plums (interesting choice but good!) and macadamia brittle crunch on top (excellent), last choice was some bizarre mango tiramisu (methinks you add mango it's no longer tiramisu) anyway it was weird. The previous restaurant, Trivoli, was really great. This was our second time at Terra. The food would have been great this time had it not been for the terrible service. We were celebrating a Birthday, and mentioned that with the reservation two months earlier; was told they would "make a note of it." Arriving, there is a sign warning patrons to be patient with staff. Hostess did her best to give us a table in an area we liked, with success. Menu advised a "4% charge will be added due to increased costs." (???) Friendly, chatty waitress took our order. The menu is rather limited; I ordered short ribs, my friend, the vegetarian entree (which she was very happy with). I requested extra salad dressing; the waitress noted it on the order. "Delivery fellow" dropped off bread and butter at our table and disappeared quickly, but we had no silverware. No one in sight to request silverware. After waiting a while, I "stole" some from a table not fully occupied. Salads arrived, nearly dry, no extra dressing, very little otherwise. A very generous portion of short ribs, over 7 oz, very tender. Unfortunately, very little sauce, so it was somewhat dry. When our salad dishes were removed, I requested more meat sauce, but as we were time conscious, ate the meat as it was. In the meantime, delivery boy tried to deliver two salads to us. When he saw we had entrees, he quickly moved away, puzzled as to where they should go; waitress approached him, equally puzzled, so he took them away to wherever. Four bites before finishing the short ribs, delivery fellow brought me salad dressing (the salad was long gone); still no additional meat sauce until two bites before finishing it. The sauce made it truly delicious and it was a tremendous shame I could not enjoy 95% of the entree without sauce. When the waitress finally reappeared at our table, I inquired about a Birthday dessert. She said they never do that. (???--I had the impression otherwise when reservation was made and said so.) But then she asked FOUR times if we would like to have some chocolate dessert; we said no (what an insult!). When she returned with the bill, we asked to clarify whether they were comping a dessert or not (since she kept prying us for a dessert) just to make sure if we understood correctly and she was being that insensitive. She said, "the chef doesn't do that--I would have to pay for that myself." Then the electronic bill pay gives tip suggestions up to 20% AND suggests additional tip of up to 7% AND includes the 4% charge "due to increased costs." We realize establishments have had a tough time with the pandemic, but likely the great majority have also had increased costs and treat them (and patrons) with much more diplomacy. This restaurant is wonderful. My friend and I enjoyed a delicious lunch today. Service was impeccable. Menu very nice. We almost didn't come here because we were not informed that we each had to pay $10 extra to enter the Festival of the Arts to get to the restaurant. This is a total rip-off. I really didn't want to go in principle, but we did anyway. If this restaurant is to survive, they better think of a way to allow diners who only want to enjoy the restaurant to be waived the additional cover charge. Laguna Beach has always been expensive, but after spending $15 on parking for lunch, not to mention hassling ridiculous crowds, I am re-thinking why I even both coming here. I will probably stick with Dana Point which has great restaurants, free parking, and is just as beautiful. Definitely more tourist friendly. read more

Went there last night before the Pageant. We had a 7:15pm reservation and we were done in time for the 8:30pm show. Food came out fast and it was good. We were pressed for time, so I paid with my credit card and we were off. I really should have looked closer, because since we were a party of 7, the tip was already added. Our bill came out to $266 and the tip was $72.82. When I calculated the tip later, it was 27%!!! I hate when restaurants tell you what to tip. read more

We have dined at Tivoli Terrace for many years, weather it was before Pageant or just for lunch or dinner for their yummy food and margaritas. The new atmosphere is lovely, but the food is less than mediocre. I had the salmon and it literally had no flavor. The rice was cold and clumpy. I found myself using the salt shaker, trying to get some taste out of this dish. My friend had the chicken and she said the same thing, it had zero taste. It's apparent that the food is mass produced and then plated upon ordering. They need to go back to the drawing board with respects to the food and start flavoring their dishes. We will be looking for other alternatives in the future prior to the Pageant. read more

This place is extremely cute but the food and service here is mediocre. I ordered a lamb shank with a side of mashed potatoes. The lamb shank was pretty decent but the potatoes were cold. My sister had ordered their bolognese after the server recommended it. Sadly, the dish was dry and the pasta was undercooked. Usually, my sister and I are pretty easy going when it comes to plates not tasting to our expectations but undercooked pasta is a no-no. Took some time to get a server's attention, but when we did- he only apologized and took the plate back at the time. He didn't offer her to re-make the plate or see if she wanted to try something else until our original server came by to check up on us. Upside is that the food does come out pretty fast but the quality is meh. read more

Loved to come here when it was Tivoli Terrace. Now, not so much. It started by having to make a reservation via 'Open Table'. It wouldn't let me have a 6pm reservation, instead suggested a 5:45pm time slot. Ok, not a problem. Got there, while seated , noticed that 6pm came and went and no people. What's up with that?! Open Table asked if we were celebrating a special occasion? Yes, Anniversary. No mention made at the dinner table!. We had Adilene as our server. Wonderful young lady. One of the few that smiled. Most of the waitstaff walked around with grim faces. Also this place is overrun with waitstaff. They could do with half the staff and be ok. Food was mediocre at best. Wife and I each had the chicken. Mine was woefully under cooked. She received what looked like a double portion. The salad was good, but it would have helped if the lettuce had been cut into bite sized pieces. Prices were way above normal and then the audacity to add a service charge and a 4% increased cost charge?! I was going to say we'd try the snack bar next year only to discover that a cheeseburger was $14.- and a plain hot dog on a plain bun was $7.-. Next year,we'll either bring a picnic basket or find something in town. read more

For the second time, we were disappointed and, sadly, we have decided not to return. This venue has always been pleasant and convenient for a dining experience before the Pageant of the Masters. But, we have been extremely disappointed recently due to a very limited menu with only about four entree choices, mediocre food and prices that are much higher than they should be. In addition, there are hidden charges added to the bill (a 4% surcharge and a 20% tip were added before the check was presented to us). When the check was brought to us for payment, we were asked to tip on top of the 24% that had already been added to our bill! This restaurant does not even offer a typical Southern California entrée salad (such as a chicken Caesar salad, a chef salad, a Cobb salad or anything like that.). We were disappointed in both the flavors and the quality of the food. The food did not seem to be prepared with care and what arrived at the table differed from the descriptions on the menu. Additionally, I'd like to make a note that the restrooms within the restaurant space were filthy! read more

My friends and I have been going to the Pageant of the Masters for over 30 years now. In those 30 years we have spent a lot of money and a lot of time going to the old Tivoli Terrace. In fact when we were all in high school some us used to work there as busboys and waiters, so we know what the hell we're talking about in regards to this restaurant. Last year our dinner at Tivoli Terrace was completely fun and delicious. This year we went to the new Terra restaurant that replaced Tivoli. I made the reservations a week early and was told 430 was the only available time but at 530 the restaurant was still 90% empty. I thought the menu was short and noticed that they had removed the sea bass, eggplant Parmesan and scallops from the menu. They had doubled up the tables in width so our table was far too wide for conversation as the noise from the new sound stage drowned out any spoken word at our table: you know you're at the wrong place when you have to shout to be heard. The appetizers were a joke and the entrée that I received was completely unremarkable, much like fair food you might get at the county fair. The waiter was practically nonexistent and after some polling amongst ourselves we voted will not be returning next year. Goodbye Tivoli, hello somewhere, anywhere, else. read more

Have dined frequently at Tivoli Terrace over the past 25-30 years and it was always a delight. As of about 3 months ago it is now Terra, serving inferior food- low grade salmon with some sort of green sauce. The sauce had such a nondescript yet disgusting flavor I had to look at the menu again to see what I was eating. It was described as an avocado cream sauce. Not a hint of avocado flavor. Rice was dry and undercooked. So sad. Better to grab a bite downstairs and find a table to sit and enjoy. read more

Just ate there tonight. Three course prix fixe is still going on - only option. $30 per person. They did have a pork chop special version for $31. Choices are flank steak, chicken, vegetarian pappardelle or salmon. This was the most disappointing meal I have had in a long while. First course salad was anemic - looked like half a handful of someone's leftovers. Missing the candied walnuts. Main - I had the flank steak. Completely over done and hard to cut through. Was missing the baby carrots and they swapped the basmati rice for a mashed potato scoop without any notice. When I asked about the baby carrots they looked around at our other guests' plates - like to see if they had taken them - like I was trying to scam more carrots out of them. When they brought them out from the kitchen, it was A baby carrot cut in half. Overly salted. Was also missing the walnuts noted. Dessert was supposed to be cheesecake with Grand Marnier soaked strawberries and I asked if there was a gluten free alternative. They said they were out of cheesecake and just had tiramisu and no gluten free option. Our other guests were okay with the tiramisu (although it looked like it had been sitting around for a day or two). I asked if they had a berry plate they could offer as a gluten free option and they said they weren't sure but probably not. They ended up wrangling together a berry plate - I think it was garnish from the bar and looked dried out. Most interesting part about dessert was the people next to use who continued to be served the cheesecake before and after our desserts were served. Apparently one magically surfaced. No boozy berries though - just a drizzle of strawberry sauce. Event venue is clearly their main business and this menu is reflective of a catering menu. There is no full menu. The portions are small. They are in the business of churn and turn re: seating/dinner covers. We were being rushed out after just 30 minutes. And left hungry. The music from the festival grounds was so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. I think being under the roof structure may have made it louder. Giving one star only for convenient location and visually interesting space. Food and service leave a lot to be desired. We will be taking our $30 a head somewhere else next time. Reconsider your visit to this restaurant if attending the festival this summer. I get that menus may change but a) notify your guest and b) adjust the price if it is less than what was expected. read more

Except for our server, Johnny, who was on his first day at the job, ( 4 Stars ) what a major disappointment. As this is the only sit down restaurant when you go to the Pagent Of The Masters so your sort of stuck. My recommendation, definitely eat someplace before you go. So many wonderful restaurants in Laguna to choose from, and so close by. For some reason they have decided to go buffet or a three course meal until the 12th of July. Definitely avoid going there until after that. Except for my wife's cheese cake, ( 3 Stars) the food was absolutely tasteless. Trust me on that. Menus with no prices on it, and they ran out of menus. The front of the house who greeted and seated you didn't even know what the prices were that evening. There new digital pricing system was a joke. I was presented with a bill that was $ 40.00 more then it should have been. And they could not give me a itemized receipt. Who ever manages this place would be better off working in the fast food industry. Why? It appears that there was very little or no training or instruction what so ever for these poor kids trying to do a good job. We ate there last year and it was great, wish we would have known what was in store for us. NOTE: If you go to there web site, it says they are CLOSED.....when in fact they are actually open. We were in a unique situation with delaying our wedding at Terra due to COVID and then had one of the first weddings post the lockdown, so portions of our production process where a little wonky. However when it came to month of, including the tasting through the wedding day, we were thrilled with our experience. We greatly appreciated the amazing food - we had guests say it was the best wedding food ever - the beautiful atmosphere, and the friendly staff. For the past 14 years our group has made an annual trek to the Pageant of the Masters and for the last few we have loved everything about Tivoli Terrace, which is what was on the property when we made our reservation for this year. Unfortunately, its replacement, Terra, was very disappointing. I thought about giving it only one star but I gave it two only because the food was quite good. But, that is where it ended. There were fewer menu options and higher prices. The service was abysmal. The staff seemed disorganized and overwhelmed. Our server was obviously in over her head. We were afraid we were going to miss the show! Also, it seemed to be much noisier than Tivoli Terrace was. At the end, our checks contained errors and mix-ups as to the orders which required more time to fix. If Terra is still there next year, I doubt that our group will give it another chance. read more

What a fantastic evening! We were part of a very large group last night (35+) before the pageant. The staff did an amazing job with all of us! Ramon and another lady need a special mention as they did such a great job! Waters were always full, wine poured, flatbread full, they were very attentive and smiled the whole night. The food came out all together, very organized and presented beautifully! I had the lamb shank with the cauliflower mash potatoes and it was delicious! (heard raves on the salmon as well). Dessert was something chocolatey and amazing ( not sure what it was called?) All and all, I was incredibly impressed with everything and how well they handled our large party (there was another party of at least 20 next to us) And we had plenty of time to make it over to the show! This was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. The food was awful. The salad was a few sprigs of field greens on a plate with a cherry tomato cut in half with nothing else, not even salad dressing. The flank steak came burned to a crisp, totally black and curled up at the ends. I couldn't cut into it and had to send it back. We made reservations two hours in advance of the show and barely made curtain call for the show. The service was bad and the food even worse. There were four of us and we all felt that the meal and service was so bad that we will never be back again, not ever. read more

We have eaten at Terra twice. The FIRST time, lunch, was delicious with nicely chosen combinations neatly presented. The SECOND, was awful: soggy slop pasta, shoe leather salmon and a dinner salad that was dressing on a plate, thoroughly masking the previously fresh greens that struggled for attention before surrendering to the artlessness of it all. Don't have super high expectations. It was fine, but not outstanding. The service and servers are just "ok". The food was good. Salad comes with the entree, very tasty, and a surprise since the menu doesn't mention that. The drinks are bottled, so don't expect fountain drinks, or freshly brewed iced tea. Prices are typical. Atmosphere is great. The lower dining area is nicer than the upper dining area. All in all, it was just "ok", and next time, I'd probably opt for a slice of pizza instead. read more

My husband and I got married here almost a year ago back before the ownership change when it was known as Tivoli Terrace. Our wedding was beautiful and all the employees were extremely helpful and one of the gentleman working our wedding said that for our anniversary we could contact them and they would make us a fresh cake topper. With that information we donated our cake topper to another family. As it is almost our anniversary I contacted the venue to get the fresh cake in order. The new ownership told me this is no longer an option and that I would need to purchase the cake. This is very disappointing considering the excellent customer service we received a year ago. I would have thought the new ownership would have honored the promises made to the couples who are expecting to receive the same delicious carrot cake we had on our wedding night. We've been coming to the pageant for 15 years and always enjoyed Tivoli Terrace. This new restaurant has a new look which is nice and open but our group thought the food just so so. It's pretty pricey and we missed the bread and larger salads. My salmon lacked flavor and the men in our grouped missed the sirloin steak. I read previous reviews after having dinner at Terra and I am wondering if we ate at the same restaurant. I too have always eaten at Tivoli every year when I go to the Pageant so was eager to try the new restaurant. I didn't have a reservation so took a chance that they would have a place for me since it was still early. The Hostess said if I didn't mind that I needed to be done in an hour she could seat me. No problem because I was by myself and I really didn't want what they offer in the food stands below. . The waiter came right over and got my drink order and when he delivered my drink took my order. I ordered the flank steak. It was really good and cooked perfectly. The cauliflower/potato mash was creamy and the topping on the meat of figs, walnuts bleu cheese and balsamic drizzle was amazing. My only issue was that there was goat cheese on the salad that preceded and I really don't like goat cheese! Also, the salad is pretty small and a breadstick would have been nice. I will eat here again though! read more
