The AC stopped working the weekend of the lightning strikes. I first tried reaching a larger company and got put on hold for longer than I wanted to wait (it felt like 10 minutes, but of course that's not exactly reliable). I called TFF and got Tony on the line right away. Of course they were super busy, but it was going to be a wait for anybody. Angel was the one who came out, and he was masked properly as others have noted. He was polite and once he checked things out, just did what was necessary (replacing the capacitor and disconnect box). He was patient with our questions and explained what we could do to try to avoid future problems. He gave us plenty of time to check that everything was working afterwards. No one size fits all packages like other companies are quoting. Tony gives you the price it would cost to replace what you have with similar parts, and then explains what every upgrade will cost and provide. Install is top notch. Both the HERS and City Permit Inspectors gave high praise to Tony's Team's work and mentioned Tony's team never has problems passing inspection. Awesome business. These guys changed my ducts several months ago, since then my gas bill went down dramatically compared to the same times last year. Tony was very honest, didn't try to oversell me on anything and his prices were very competitive. Also, I recently had a water leak from my AC/Furnace unit in the garage. Made an appointment with Tony to come look at it. He didn't show up to appointment. When I contacted his wife (who does his scheduling), she apologized said it was a mix up of their scheduling. Wow. Tony has left me scratching my head. I needed to have my A/C condenser unit and evaporator coil replaced. Tony came to my house on 7/11 to discuss. I left him know exactly which model I wanted him to quote. After he took measurements he left and said he would send me a bid/quote. I didn't hear back for 3 days so I sent an email to his email address reminding him about our "job". The next day Heidi replied back and provided a quote and advised me to contact them if I had any questions. The quote was for the wrong model number and it didn't mention the name of the manufacturer for the quoted evaporator coil. It took me a while but I eventually replied back via email with my questions. Here's the follow-up reply I received on 7/31: "My apologies but we have to decline any further work. We just do not have the man power right now to get into so many details and we are currently booked for installs into the first week of Sept. I am sorry we couldn't help you this time." I understood. It was peak time of the summer. But fortunately it never got very hot this summer so I didn't mind waiting until they were less busy. Today (10/14) I called Heidi and asked if we could get a revised quote with the correct model number and then get put on Tony's schedule. She said that he was only backed up about 10 days right now and that she would check with Tony. Here's the reply Heidi sent me tonight: "It slipped my mind that we declined the work earlier in July. Once we decline it we normally don't go back on our word. Tony just doesn't feel its right to say no, then say yes. In the past it has left a bad taste in the clients, or our mouth, while we are proceeding with the work, and then both are parties are stuck and unhappy. So, I apologize but after speaking with Tony we will still have to decline the install. We appreciate your understanding." Like I said, they left me scratching my head. I was definitely interested in doing business with TFF but they have decided not to do business with me. As I did immediately at the time, I again apologize to you for accidentally forwarding an email that I had previously sent to my wife. That email included the "S" word but that email was sent to my wife, not to you, back in July when you said you couldn't take on our job because you were too busy. When I reached out to Heidi in October to see if we could finally get on your calendar, she asked me to forward the last email from when we were corresponding in July so she could get up to speed quickly on the details of the job. We called Tony and left a message. It took several business days to get a response. We schedule a home visit to discuss replacing the furnace and possibly the AC and I took a day off to be at home. To our surprise a different person came and had difficulties answering simple questions such as "will a dual stage furnace + blower will also act as a dual stage blower when running the AC". When we told them that we would like Tony to come whenever it works for him so can get discuss the job with a knowledgeable person they refused. My impression is that working with this company is a hit or miss, depending who they happen to send that day. Tony is a professional and a really great guy. He is fair and honest, and takes time to go over every step of the process. He obviously has a lot of experience when it comes to the business and is extremely knowledgeable having worked as a contractor/personal business owner for years. I can't say enough when it comes to how nice the guy is. When I told him I couldn't find the right air filter for my intake, he even offered to drive out to Home Depot to find one for me -free of charge. He was very respectful as well. I've had a couple of contractors come in to fix things in my house and they don't usually think twice about taking their dirty 'workman' shoes off. I noticed that Tony took his off automatically. He even offered to vacuum the debris afterward. I totally recommend this guy. I was a previous customer of Valley Heating. I like this guys too but I thought they were a little on the expensive side. A couple of days ago my furnace fan suddently stopped working and so I had no heat. Tony (owner) came over to diagnose the problem (bad circuit board). He returned another day with the replacement part. In between diagnostic and final repair he put in a temp fix so I had heat (fan was always on) but I had to go to the garage breaker panel to turn off the furnace. I already had radiator type portable heater in my room so I was fine. Also late Jan whether isn't too anyways in San Jose. Today he put the new board in and at my request adjusted the air flow so more air goes to the master bedroom. His labour charges were reasonable but I am glad I paid his cost for the part. He offered to show me the invoice for the part. The only 'glitch' I had at first was to get a prompt response by phone. I guess I caught them on a busy day. I also tried emailing and I got a quicker response from his assistant. I would use them again definitively. read more

My review is base on the initial conversation and interaction and not an actual job with this company. I was calling to see why my heater furnace was making so much noise and if they can fix it. My problem was diagnosed over the phone and the gentleman I spoke to was very knowledgeable but there was some miscommunication on what needed to be fixed. Long story short, I learned a few things and the noise was not really a problem regarding the functionality of the furnace. Even with the visit from this company, I was not charged because of the miscommunication. Although my problem with noise went away after they did some small tweaks in my heater closet. Tony is the bomb-diggity. We have a commercial building we needed to check the A/C units for and even though Tony doesn't do commercial buildings, he helped us out. He didn't have to but he went out of the way to call us back and give us names of other companies(and competitors) that he heard good things about. Totally courteous and professional on the phone. Although we didn't have him service our commerical units, just speaking with him on the phone showed his work ethic as described by other yelpers. I had Tony come out to help me evaluate whether or not I could add a zone to my existing system to condition my new garage remodel or if I should add a mini-split system. We decided on the mini-split. Tony Gave me a reasonable price to start, but when I showed him it was a super clean install site and the walls were already open and that the electrical was right there, he dropped his price a good bit. I called around and nobody was able to beat his price so I gave him the job. Tony showed up on time, got the installation done quickly and without surprises, cleaned up and was gone. Really quite painless. The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because he set the pad on top of my rocks instead of brushing the rocks aside and placing the pad on the ground. [update 1/12/11] When Tony installed my mini-split, I told him he didn't need to hook up the electrical since my contractors handling the remodel were going to do it. However when the remodel was complete, the A/C wasn't running so Tony agreed to come out and have a look. After puzzling over the problem for a bit, he figured out that the wiring was incorrect and that the sub panel was undersized. Tony stayed late that night installing a new sub panel and fixing the poor wring left behind by the other contractor. For this above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty, I'm upgrading Tony to 5 stars. read more

I had an estimate from Blue Mountain Air, the company used by my builder to install a dual zone system in my home. I have heard from other neighbors that Blue Mountain had been charging $300 more than my estimate to do the install, so I thought it a good idea to see what was out there and gain fuel for why Blue Mountain should honor my more than a year old but cheaper estimate. Based on Yelp reviews, I called 4 companies: 1) Pelle's estimate came in at 2x Blue Mountain's estimate, but my interactions with their front office and technician were excellent. 2) TFF HVAC and 3/4) Valley Heating and A&H - after Tony's estimate, I cancelled both appointments and neither company got a chance to even come out and do a bid. I called TFF to make an estimate appointment and left a message which was returned in about an hour. Tony was able to make it out to my house in the afternoon on the same day. He made it to my house and played with the neighbor kids for a couple minutes before I got to my front door, 5 minutes earlier than our appointment. Granted, my neighbors are the cutest kids on the planet, he wasn't annoyed at having to wait for me. The estimate took less than 5 minutes, he came in, took a look at the furnace and air ducts, gave me a verbal estimate and let me know what his availability was going to be over the next couple weeks. Since Tony's estimate was less than my original estimate, and I trust the reviews of other yelpers, I decided to cancel my other estimates and just go with Tony. It took an extra day to get the estimate in writing, but all other interactions were timely and positive. In fact, I sent an email to TFF on a Sunday night to remind Tony about the estimate expecting a response on Monday morning. I actually got an acknowledtement from Hedi within 15 minutes at 10:30 pm and the estimate was in my inbox on Monday morning. Tony ended up having an appointment that would move his start time out an hour; ample notification was given and the guys showed up on time. Tony brought 2 guys with him and these are the guys who did the work while Tony left to attend to other jobs/appointments. However, he introduced me to the guys and made sure that I was comfortable with them. The guys put up plastic to protect my clothes from debris since the access was in my closet. When it was unclear where the 2nd control should be installed, they made sure to ask me and confirm location. All in all, they cleaned up and were done in about 3.5 hours even though Tony said it would take about 6 hours. Tony came back to check the work and make sure everything was good...and of course to get paid. I'm totally satisfied and everything works perfectly. Tony is professional, genuine, and extremely nice. I wish I could hire him for all the jobs my home needed. I thought it was too good to be true that TFF had all these 5-star reviews, but these guys don't give you a reason to knock off any stars. If you need any services that HVAC can provide, use them. read more

Can't say much that other reviews haven't stated already. Tony and his crew are simply amazing. I got a new AC unit installed over a year ago. Problem was that the previous installers didn't tell me my ductwork was incredibly jacked up. I got Tony to redo the entire ductwork and he made my home's AC more efficient by splitting my system into 2 zones in our home. I didn't know what REAL AC with good vents felt like until last night when Tony tested out the brand new ducting in our new home. Tony's prices were the best I got! BAR NONE. He's an amazing guy who's easy to talk to and is always available on his cell. He even does gutter/roof work. My wife and I are going back to him in a few months to get him to install gutters for our roof. I talked to Tony about all his 5 star reviews and being the professional that he is, he wants to do whatever it takes to maintain his 5 star rating. He told me this after he was completely finished with the job. He asked for a roll of paper towels and a bottle of 409 and he was scrubbing and cleaning our walls/bathroom floors that had gotten dusty. I highly recommend TFF HVAC. They are responsive, reasonable, work quickly, and they're even nice. They did a repair then a new furnace install. My furnace went out on a recent cold morning, when I had guests staying and more coming the next day. I called, left a message, and in spite of the note at the top of YELP that they are so busy it may take 48 hours for them to return a call, Tony called back in a couple of hours. They were able to get Jason out the next morning even though they had a lot of customers in the same predicament. He fixed the problem temporarily, and explained what was probably wrong, and I really needed a new furnace. Tony got a quote to me by that same night. Then the furnace went out again (cracked heat exchanger) and we scheduled the new install for Sunday morning - how many people can you get to come out on a Sunday morning except by paying extra! As it turned out, they finished early on their Saturday jobs and came out Saturday night and installed my new furnace. Last winter, my furnace went out on a cold morning, when I had guests staying in the house. I called TIFF HVAC, left a message and Tony called back in next day. They were able to get Tony out the same evening even though they had already fully booked. Tony tried his best to come over at the end of his day before he goes home. He fixed the problem right away, and explained what was wrong. He provided me a lot of helpful information without pushing me to replace the unit. He also told me the furnace still function; it still can use until it needed to be replaced. My husband and I are very happy with the job they did. Another 5 star review for Tony and his team! To start, my neighbor referred me to Tony to stall a new AC unit to my house. I also obtained 4 other quotes. The other quotes were all over the board in terms of pricing, Tony's quote was relatively fair. Since two of my neighbors raved about him, I decided to go with the recommendation! So glad I did. We have a electrical panel by the garage, which will technically hold the AC load, but Tony decided to route to the main panel because he didn't want my panel in the garage to overload, which means it was more work for them. This was amazing because he rather do it right the first time! When the job was done, prior to the city inspection, they have to get a 3rd party vendor to inspect to make sure the job was done correctly. The schedule time was for 2 hours, he was done in 45 minutes, and his comment was "this was pass with flying colors! they did an amazing job!" Considering it is in the attic and no one can see it, it was nicely done! When the city inspector came, he was amazed by the craftsmanship and how nicely everything was put together. Before the city inspector leaves our house, he make sure to get the name of our AC guy - TFF HVAC - Tony!! For the city inspector to make that statement, you know the quality of work is outstanding! It's tough to find contractors who put their clients ahead of their profits, but Tony of TFF HVAC certainly falls into this category. I had a problem where my AC and furnace would turn on simultaneously and the guy who did the installation refused to come back and fix it! I called Tony and instead of immediately charging me to diagnose the problem, he tried to guide me through some steps over the phone to see if there was a simple fix. The fact that he was willing to do this already puts him way ahead of the curve as far as contractors go... Ultimately, I had to have him come out and fix the issue, but it was resolved with no complications and he even taught me a few lessons about how these heating/cooling systems operate. His rate was also comparable to several other contractors that I contacted. Bottom line is that he is honest, he is a nice guy and knows virtually all there is to know about HVAC systems. read more

The gas pilot on my 40 year old furnace has been going out a couple of times a year. After reading the excellent reviews for TFF HVAC, I decided to give them a call to take a look at the furnace. Tony came out to look at the furnace and gave me the option of either servicing the thermostat or replacing the furnace. There was no hard sell at all and I felt it was entirely up to me. I decided to replace the 40 year old furnace as some of the wires on the furnace looked like they were ready to fall apart. I figure it was just a matter of time before it breaks down at an inconvenient time. Tony gave me a very reasonable quote for a Rheem furnace. The quote was competitive if not lower than Home Depot. In addition, I prefer to support local businesses. Tony was very courteous and friendly. I also get the sense that Tony is very experienced and intelligent with his work. The installation looked very clean and included a new thermostat, gas valve and vent connection. I was surprised to learn I had an ignition type furnace installed. That means I don't have to have a gas pilot running 24 hours a day. This will help lower my gas bill. I'm a pretty happy guy. :-) read more

WOW WOW WOW. TFF installed a whole HVAC system in my house in Feb 2010. Our house is old and had only the original floor heater. TFF put in the furnace, AC, electrical, and duct work from scratch. They did an amazing job. I've had contractors over since then to do unrelated work and they've said to me, "Who did this HVAC work? It's amazing." The owner, Tony, is the best. Honest, courteous, and he goes the extra mile. In June 2011 we had a minor issue with the thermostat. Tony installed our new AC system one year ago and we were very pleased with it. His suggestion was professional and exactly met our needs. This year we got a new Nest thermostat and thinking to upgrade the previous one. We tried to do it ourselves but we messed up with the wires and the AC stopped working again. We called TFF to fix the HVAC in an apartment that wasn't working. We picked them because they could come in reasonable time frame and they were highly represented on yelp. Tony quickly diagnosed the problem and was responsive about getting the replacement part and coming back quickly. When the A/C in house broke, the repair guy sent out by the home warranty company told it us the problem was the zone system (not covered the warranty) quote a very high price and couldn't bother to come back to follow up for more than a week. Tony gave us as much more reasonable ballpark estimate over the phone and agreed to come in the next few days. He quickly discovered that the problem was misdiagnosed and the repair was much simpler and more affordable. Now we call TFF for all of our HVAC needs. read more
