Great place to go if you are craving Thai food by kits beach! I only got the mango sticky rice to go which was under $6 which I think is totally reasonable and headed down to the beach to enjoy my dessert! The rice was sooo warm and the mango was just the right amount of ripeness so easily a 5/5 for me! I cant speak much on any of their other dishes because I haven't gotten food here in years but from what I remember it's pretty good. Overall the location is also what makes this place so ideal because it's right across from the beach so you can take your food to-go and enjoy it anywhere along Kits beach.

Pad See Ew - 3 stars. Just ok, the noodles were a little hard and stuck together. Nothing too memorable. Wed dinner 2023-07-12

Cute Thai spot close to Kits Beach. We walked by at 5:30pm on a Wednesday in July and it was empty. 15 minutes later, there must have been 10-15 people eating there! We were still able to put together a table for 8. Pretty straightforward, you order at the counter, you bus your own table. * Pad See Ew - 3 stars Just ok, the noodles were a little hard and stuck together. Nothing too memorable. * Chicken Skewers - 3 stars Also ok, chicken was a bit dry, but peanut sauce was good. * Chicken Red Curry - 4 stars I only tried a bite, but my partner enjoyed this. Flavorful but chicken was a little dry/overcooked.

The dishes are hit and miss in terms of authenticity. I guess it depends on what you order. I had the pad pra pao chicken which is my standard dish to gauge if the restaurant is able to make Thai food like in Thailand. It is a very basic dish which most Thais can cook. The best one I had was in an alley in Bangkok at a makeshift restaurant. It has been decades and I still remember it. I did not specify the spice level and I was pleasantly surprised to find it came spicy. Good spicy like in Thailand. A small dish of cut chilis was served on the side to up the spice level further. It was so good! So I went back and ordered the pad Thai to go. I also got a frozen entree (green curry chicken). The pad Thai was a disappointment. It had a ketchup taste which made the dish terrible. I guess it had been altered to suit the locals' taste here. Definitely not authentic at all. Reminded me of another Thai place I went to years ago and I was told that was how pad Thai tasted like in HK, ketchup based. The frozen entree was on the small side but at $5.95, it was understandable. The green curry chicken was flavorful and quite good. I would buy a few of these frozen entrees and keep in my freezer. It is quite perfect if you are in the mood for Thai food and do not want to order in or travel out. I will still like to try other Thai dishes to see if the pad Thai was the only dish which has been modified for non Thais.

Decent, cheap and cheerful Thai food, close to the beach! I've been here many times, for lunches dinners and take away to bring to the beach, or delivery. Everyone else has raised their prices, but these lovely people have not. I usually get the combo, which is a curry with rice, a spring roll and a mini salad. My favourite is either red curry with tofu or Penang with tofu. You can also get tofu with basil or pad thai. They'd all yummy! You can have any protein you want (beef, chicken, prawns), but I've only tried the veggie options. If you're coming with bigger group you can get share plates and have lots of flavour. Last night I had the Penang curry with tofu and it was great! It's a very quick and efficient place. It's small but they do have a little patio on the side if you want to be outside. So glad they're on my way home from work!

I have not been to Thailand, but I know they have beaches, and I know they have Thai food (they probably just call it food). So, I think having Thai food across from kits beach is probably the cheapest way to feel like you're in Thailand, while still being right here in Vancouver. I love their Chicken & Cashew stir-fry. i don't know if that's a famous Thai thing, or some sort of a hybrid, but I like it. I saw a group of Thai people eating here too. So, I imagine its fairly good even from a Thai persons perspective. In any case, I think having a Thai food place close to the beach is great, because sometimes you get sick of hot dogs, and burgers and fries, ....

Vancouver is spoiled for choice in the Thai cuisine department, so settling on a place is challenging task. I chose this establishment because I wanted to get takeout and watch the sunset at Kits Beach (albeit in the late fall chill, but still, one takes the clear days as they come here). I came in well in advance of the dinner rush, at about 5pm, ordered pad kee mao (wide flat noodles, chicken, Thai basil, peppers, tomatoes, chilies). Within about 10 seconds, the whole space was filled with the funky perfume of fish sauce, and within about 60 seconds, my meal was prepped and packaged up. Seriously, these people are fast. I was pleasantly surprised to see fresh green peppercorns mingled in with the other veggies. The dish itself was amped up in the spice department, and while passingly tasty in the moment, proved far too oily for me to eat as leftovers the next day. If you're near the beach and craving Thai, this could be a convenient option, but for me, I'll keep up the search...

Beautiful location, especially in the summertime when they roll their full size windows all the way up. Right across the road from Kitsilano beach, and probably the most reasonably priced place on the block. Delicious food and great lunch deals.

Great Thai restaurant where the Pad Thai isn't too sweet like a lot of other Thai restaurants in Vancouver.

Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. The server gave me so much info about the restaurant and offerings, but it felt fun and conversational and not like I was being flooded with information. He knew exactly when to check on me and was able to guide me in the ordering process since I was unfamiliar with the menu. I ended up getting a lovely 9oz pour of sav blanc to pair with my meal. The edamame was lovely. Way too much for one person, but not expensive. Ended up sharing with other solo diners. The tofu salad was incredible. I have never had anything like that in my life. It doesn't sound exciting, but it is a true adventure in textures and flavors. I wish I could recreate it, but it was just too special to even attempt. I got their specialty, which was a salmon aburri sushi. It melted in my mouth. So much flavor, perfect texture. I like sushi, but am not an adventurous eater in the world of seafood, so played it safe. This is a meal I will think about for years. The gal next to me got a sampler platter and said the salmon was her fave, so I am so happy I got a plate full of it. Will be back 100 times over.

Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.

We came around 4pm so there was no wait but by the time we left at like 5 there was already a line forming outside. We got the wings and veggie fried rice, and it took a bit of time for the food to come out but that didn't bother us. The portion for the fried rice was MASSIVE and could easily feed 3-4 people. It was good, nothing to standout but a very good classic fried rice. The wings came out after and were hot and crispy. It comes with a lemon pepper sauce on the side, which was super lemony - great if you like that but I wasn't too big a fan of it. The wings were juicy and fresh, though I will say I did expect a bit more flavor. There was only one piece at the bottom that had a generous coat of the seasoning which I thought was super tasty. Overall, good spot! I'm not sure I'd wait super long for it, but glad I got to try.
