For those on a tight budget and looking for a great meal then come on down to Thai BBQ located in Union City you won't be disappointed. For starters they have their daily lunch specials serving from Monday thru Friday 11 to 3 and all the items listed are under $10 can't beat that anywhere else. Traffic wasn't so bad as I came in the morning and was greeted by a young man very attentive and polite perhaps a manager/owner. He had mentioned there are a lot of take out orders and very few dine-in. Right off the menu I order the beef say tay grilled and marinated on a skewer comes with a cup of dipping peanut sauce a cup of sliced onions and cucumbers and with fried rice and salad on the side all at price of $8.95 (generous portion size and a large glass of Thai iced tea for a mere $3.00! As I was seated the same man brought over a glass of iced water, then later a plate of salad and beef saytay and goes very with Thai tea. During that time I was the only dine-in customer would definitely be back will try out the pad thai and curry chicken. Check their hours before coming by they are closed for afternoon breaks. This Thai restaurant was very well kept and cozy. The waitress greeted me as soon as I walked in and was very friendly. I ordered the chicken satay skewers and yellow chicken curry with plain rice and I was completely blown away with the quality of the food and how flavorful the meal was. The yellow curry was rich with flavor and the chicken satay was cooked to perfection. I was actually surprised with the portion size too. Definitely over ate but I guess thats a good thing. Excellent food and service. Whenever we pass through Union City, we have to get our fix! Our go-to are the pad see ew and the bbq spareribs (ugh my mouth is watering just thinking about it). For those who love the flavor of pad see ew, my tip is to ask with extra sauce so it nice and juicy! The spareribs were bomb as well. The meat literally falls off the bone and is so tender and flavorful. The spareribs are also served with a shrimp fried rice- also delicious. Most restaurants overcook the shrimp, but when I took a bit of it, I was throughly caught off guard at how soft and fresh the shrimp was. I had to secretly steal a couple more shrimp from my boyfriends plate! The mango sticky rice was probably one of the best I've ever had as well. I was lucky to get one as it is pretty much the end of mango season. Thai ice coffee was also great and we loved that they have the small cube ice because we love to eat the ice (lol I know we aren't the only ones who like this!). But to top it off, the service is too notch. Super friendly, consistently checked in, fast food turnaround, and very accommodating when I asked extra this/that or modification. We happened to be in the neighborhood and was craving Thai food. We didn't look at any reviews and just took a chance. We're glad we did, because the food was delicious! For Thai food, my friendd have a go-to by his house that they highly recommend.. When I visited them recently, they ordered take-out from Thai BBQ for our lunch. I was looking forward to trying the food. They ordered the following three dishes: Pad See-Ew with beef - rice (fun) noodles with beef and brocolli. The dish had good flavor and the noodles were stir-fried with egg. Crab Fried Rice - the rice had good amount of crab in it. Rice had good taste and consistency and was not mushy. Thai BBQ Chicken - consisted of half a chicken with breast, thigh, drumstick and wing pieces and a container of honey dipping sauce. The chicken was ok and was a little dry. I've been on a curry craze. And always wanted to try this place since it's so close to my home. The parking lot is pretty big but depending on the time you come it might be hard to find parking. I decided to get my meals to go. The Tom Yum chicken was very tasty. I really liked how they made the soup taste. But for the price that I paid there wasn't much to eat. I was able to take the remaining broth and add a little bit more water for me to just have some more broth. I felt they could have added more of the ingredients for the amount that I paid for. But the recipe was pretty good and I enjoyed the soup. The yellow chicken curry was ok. There wasn't any spice to it. If it had a bit of a kick to it, then maybe I would have enjoyed it more. The size of the chicken was pretty large. So, I had to cut up the chicken myself or at least take bites and then scoop up the rice. I'm never gonna buy anymore food from this place again. This has always been my go to place for Thai food but not anymore. Today will be my last time I give them a try. The last time I bought food from them the chicken sate with fried rice did not taste good. And the peanut sauce was very watered down YUK! Today I ordered my usual chicken/beef sate with fried rice and it tasted horrible. The fried rice is old, the chicken is dry and old and the beef was so chewy and hard and again the peanut sauce is watered down. That's it for this place. This is our go to place for thai food for years now. Last week we were craving pad thai and decided to get it from here. We called in and placed our order. So by the time we got there, our food was waiting for us to just pay, grab and go. Combination pad thai, thai bbq spareribs and angel wings. I love my pad thai with all 3 proteins in it, so combination was always my order. Sauce was perfect and not too overbearing so you won't have a problem finishing off 1 order of it by yourself. Spareribs are always fall off the bones with sweet honey sauce that my sis in law fell in love with it as it was her first time trying them. Angel wings only comes 2 pcs for appetizer order and it was good. It consists of a chicken wing stuffed with ground meat and fried to golden perfection. It comes with onion/cucumber vinegar dipping sauce and that tops off the dish. They have big servings so you can share some entree with another person and still have some leftovers to bring home and chow for the next day. Price wise, it is still affordable since you get the portions you pay for, so it's well worth it. Definitely would keep coming back for more. read more

Huge food portions? Check. Reasonable prices? Check. Quality food? Check. Awesome service? Check. Quality, authentic Thai food in the Bay Area has been hard to come by. In addition, most Thai places nowadays have the teeniest tiniest portions at $13+ a plate. Thai BBQ is hands down, one of my favorite Thai spots in the Bay. The portion sizes are so generous and they surely don't skimp on meat. Most of the dishes we ordered were $9.50 or less! On the plus side, there's never a crowd here. The restaurant is almost entirely empty every time I come here. Service is always great with friendly, sweet workers that check on you frequently. Parking isn't a problem since Thai BBQ is located in a pretty quiet plaza with its own parking lot. I highly recommend the chicken pad thai (my fav in Bay Area), beef penang curry (loaded with plentiful tender juicy beef, tom yum soup, and chicken satay. The tom yum was full of flavor- a great balance of tanginess and spices plus plentiful fish, mushrooms, and squid. The drunken noodles were delicious as well, but I wish it was spicier. I appreciate that all of the food wasn't overwhelmingly salty and it didn't leave that heavy and icky feeling after the meal. Thai Original BBQ is a hidden gem in Union City that I never would have come across if it weren't for Yelp. I highly recommend trying this place out at least once! read more

I don't understand why there are high reviews on this place. I had a bad feeling about this place when I entered, and I saw a "certificate" that this place has "passed" a hygiene inspection, and the "inspector" wrote "Thai BBQ Restant" on the "certificate." Honestly, it looks like a fake food inspection certificate, is what I got out of this. Then, I saw all the rainwater dripping down from the ceiling. I should have trusted my gut that this place was not going to be a sanitary place. More on this later. I ordered 5 dishes, and it came out to about 80 bucks. The prices listed on this site are not accurate. The prices have risen significantly since. Dishes are upwards of 16 dollars per dish. I got baited into coming here based on that and ordered anyway because I didn't want to waste a trip. When I received my to-go order, I was surprised to see that 4 out of the 5 dishes were using those small black containers, and only 1 of them had a white clamshell take out container. I took them home anyway and I was shocked to discover after I removed the lids, that the amount of food in each container couldn't even fill a small soup bowl. Honestly, I could have taken all 5 dishes and fit them all in one white clamshell container and it STILL wouldn't have filled the single container. The portions were ridiculously stingy and tiny. WHAT A RIPOFF! I should have taken pictures. But I wasn't planning on writing a review. Anyway, the food was not good. But honestly, I was going to let it go and just swallow the loss and move on. I wasn't even going to write a review, because as you can see from my history, I don't usually write reviews, bad or good. Here's why I changed my mind. Soon after my meal, I had to go to the bathroom with stomach pain and explosive diarrhea. It was the worst pain from food poisoning I ever got in my life, worse than that one time I got food from a food truck. I had to take 4 pills of Clindamycin to save me from a trip to the ER. I felt better after taking antibiotics. Waking up today, the next morning, my GI system is still feeling tender and inflamed, and my bottom is absolutely wrecked. TL:DR, I paid them about 80 dollars to get a food poisoning experience of a lifetime that I will never forget. Please, for the love of God, avoid this restaurant like the plague. I hope and pray someone doesn't die from eating here. I'm serious. read more

Been hearing about this very popular chain so when we were hanging out in UC, decided to drop by for lunch. The lunch specials didn't interest us so we ordered from the regular entrees instead. Got the mixed seafood and the swai fish with sweet chili and basil. The seafood flavor was very nice, and a huge portion that we couldn't finish! Would get this again. The swai wasn't the most flavorful and the sweet chili was too sweet. But the basil was a very nice contrast in flavor. Service was nice enough and parking was easy for a Friday lunch. Had no idea there was a Thai BBQ in the East Bay. My family have always gone to the one in Westborough/SSF area. My husband was craving for the S2. However, I was hesitant to eat here because my daughter has a peanut allergy. My husband asked what type of oil they cooked their food in. He was told they cooked their food in soybean oil. Learning that we were good to go. Not the many customers when we arrived. About 15 mins later, a whole crowd came. We ordered the bbq chicken, spareribs, and the chicken fried rice. All were delicious. Cravings were fulfilled. It's a small place. However, we noticed that you might be able to host a party-- about 25 guests on one side of the restaurant. We will be back. All the items were hot and packaged very nicely. The Spring Rolls were crispy, crunchy, and packed with delicious ground pork, chicken, glass noodles, carrots and chopped cabbage, served with their special sauce. The Chicken Phad Thai had a generous amount of chicken, combined with stir fried noodles, crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, egg, and scallions. A very well made noodle dish. During the Lockdown 2020, Thai BBQ is one of only a handful of local restaurants I've been patronizing. As a matter of fact, I've been visiting almost every single week! Even before this whole ordeal, I had been a relatively frequent patron, but not nearly as often as now. I have sampled many of the common Thai food dishes, and everything is certainly up to snuff, but there is one thing that absolutely keeps me coming back for more, and it is pretty much the only item I've been ordering during this period of shelter in place... BBQ Spare Ribs! These can be paired with fried rice (three ribs) or ala carte (four ribs). Usually, for my group of three, one of each works perfectly for dinner. The ribs have the ideal level of tenderness and flavor, with that vaunted "fall off the bone" effect that connoisseurs crave. The best thing is that they are always consistent. Out of the countless times I have had the pleasure of devouring them, they have always tasted exactly the same. The fried rice is also highly recommended. If you are ordering just for yourself, I would suggest getting the ribs with rice. The staff is quite friendly, and seems to genuinely appreciate your business. I have yet to have a subpar experience dealing with the workers. The one downside is that the strip mall it is located in has seen much better days. The parking lot is an absolute mess, with potholes everywhere and space markers that have faded into oblivion. Perhaps this can be a good thing for patrons, as the likely lower rent keeps prices reasonable. While you are waiting for your order, Island Pacific Supermarket next door is a great place to find most of your Asian groceries, and it is always dead, much emptier than Seafood City or 99 Ranch. At the time of this writing, we are now closing in on the three month mark of sheltering in place, with no official word on when restaurants can return to operating as "normal." Lockdown or not, Thai BBQ has certainly found itself a devoted fan in me for now and the foreseeable future. read more
