Me and my family of 9 had high hopes when we came into this restaurant from reading reviews, however, we were sadly mistaken once we were greeted with unpleasant workers that were just dismissive and not welcoming it seemed as if it was more of an inconvenience for such a big party to come into the restaurant. Once we were seated the lady took our order, walked away, very cold like it just wasn't a welcoming experience. our drinks came in cups that were clearly not washed correctly. It was just overall an uncomfortable energy in the restaurant so me and my family had decided to leave as I told the people that were working. The issues with the service that we were receiving, they did not care to hear it. There was no apologies or any type of accountability. It was just more like OK you could go. so if I were you, I would take my money elsewhere. Even my bf said the guy was so nice when he went to go inside to pick it up lol We ordered pad thai, honey duck dinner, and BBQ pork spare rib dinner. It took them around 15 minutes to prepare. The portions was really generous and it tasted good! Both our favorites were the BBQ pork spare rib dinner, the meat was sooo soft and it would just come out of the bone. Came a little late -around 2 so nobody around. Ordered some pad that, pad see ew, spring rolls and a couple of rice dishes. They were ready super quick - like 10 minutes. The spring rolls were very well done. Not greasy, BBQ chicken was very good as well. Pad thai and pad see ew were a little on the bland side but still very good. So we just did a grocery next door.. my 4, 6 and 12 year old kids were hungry. Since the kids has small tummies we only ordered 3 orders that kids will eat..We ordered calamari, chicken sate ,roti and small rice just for the kids. me and my mom are only eating left over since were not hungry. Our bill was around $40 and i tip $5 since it was just the kids that i ate. We did not made a mess and even pile up the plates and trash.. So after the kids ate. The server with a long hair maybe the owner told me " next time just order to go." I was like wow..just because we ordered small you don't want the kids to dine in. For starters they have their daily lunch specials serving from Monday thru Friday 11 to 3 and all the items listed are under $10 can't beat that anywhere else. Traffic wasn't so bad as I came in the morning and was greeted by a young man very attentive and polite perhaps a manager/owner. He had mentioned there are a lot of take out orders and very few dine-in. Right off the menu I order the beef say tay grilled and marinated on a skewer comes with a cup of dipping peanut sauce a cup of sliced onions and cucumbers and with fried rice and salad on the side all at price of $8.95 (generous portion size and a large glass of Thai iced tea for a mere $3.00! As I was seated the same man brought over a glass of iced water, then later a plate of salad and beef saytay and goes very with Thai tea. During that time I was the only dine-in customer would definitely be back will try out the pad thai and curry chicken. Check their hours before coming by they are closed for afternoon breaks. This Thai restaurant was very well kept and cozy. The waitress greeted me as soon as I walked in and was very friendly. I ordered the chicken satay skewers and yellow chicken curry with plain rice and I was completely blown away with the quality of the food and how flavorful the meal was. The yellow curry was rich with flavor and the chicken satay was cooked to perfection. I was actually surprised with the portion size too. Definitely over ate but I guess thats a good thing. We love eating from here! Whenever my parents come to visit, they suggest this place for dinner at least once. Their Tom Yum and Tom Kha is seasoned perfectly and their rice and noodle dishes are also flavored well. No bland dishes! Yummy Thai food. Today I had pineapple fried rice, green curry with pork and fried swai fish with sweet chili sauce and basil. The fish was delicately battered and fried. The sweet chili dipping sauce was great--not too spicy and just the right amount of sweetness. The pineapple fried rice was excellent--full of vegetables, chicken and pineapple. Excellent food and service. Whenever we pass through Union City, we have to get our fix! Our go-to are the pad see ew and the bbq spareribs (ugh my mouth is watering just thinking about it). For those who love the flavor of pad see ew, my tip is to ask with extra sauce so it nice and juicy! The spareribs were bomb as well. The meat literally falls off the bone and is so tender and flavorful. The spareribs are also served with a shrimp fried rice- also delicious. Most restaurants overcook the shrimp, but when I took a bit of it, I was throughly caught off guard at how soft and fresh the shrimp was. I had to secretly steal a couple more shrimp from my boyfriends plate! The mango sticky rice was probably one of the best I've ever had as well. I was lucky to get one as it is pretty much the end of mango season. Thai ice coffee was also great and we loved that they have the small cube ice because we love to eat the ice (lol I know we aren't the only ones who like this!). This is our go to place for Thai takeout.. Their curries are amongst the best I've had . I don't say that lightly cause I've tried some really good Thai places in SF, Burlingame and NY too.. I was looking forward to trying the food. They ordered the following three dishes: Pad See-Ew with beef - rice (fun) noodles with beef and brocolli. The dish had good flavor and the noodles were stir-fried with egg. Crab Fried Rice - the rice had good amount of crab in it. Rice had good taste and consistency and was not mushy. Thai BBQ Chicken - consisted of half a chicken with breast, thigh, drumstick and wing pieces and a container of honey dipping sauce. The chicken was ok and was a little dry. I've been on a curry craze. And always wanted to try this place since it's so close to my home. The parking lot is pretty big but depending on the time you come it might be hard to find parking. I decided to get my meals to go. The Tom Yum chicken was very tasty. I really liked how they made the soup taste. But for the price that I paid there wasn't much to eat. I was able to take the remaining broth and add a little bit more water for me to just have some more broth. I felt they could have added more of the ingredients for the amount that I paid for. But the recipe was pretty good and I enjoyed the soup. The yellow chicken curry was ok. There wasn't any spice to it. If it had a bit of a kick to it, then maybe I would have enjoyed it more. The size of the chicken was pretty large. So, I had to cut up the chicken myself or at least take bites and then scoop up the rice. I'm never gonna buy anymore food from this place again. This has always been my go to place for Thai food but not anymore. Today will be my last time I give them a try. The last time I bought food from them the chicken sate with fried rice did not taste good. And the peanut sauce was very watered down YUK! This is our go to place for thai food for years now. Last week we were craving pad thai and decided to get it from here. We called in and placed our order. So by the time we got there, our food was waiting for us to just pay, grab and go. Combination pad thai, thai bbq spareribs and angel wings. I love my pad thai with all 3 proteins in it, so combination was always my order. Sauce was perfect and not too overbearing so you won't have a problem finishing off 1 order of it by yourself. Spareribs are always fall off the bones with sweet honey sauce that my sis in law fell in love with it as it was her first time trying them. Angel wings only comes 2 pcs for appetizer order and it was good. It consists of a chicken wing stuffed with ground meat and fried to golden perfection. It comes with onion/cucumber vinegar dipping sauce and that tops off the dish. They have big servings so you can share some entree with another person and still have some leftovers to bring home and chow for the next day. Price wise, it is still affordable since you get the portions you pay for, so it's well worth it. Definitely would keep coming back for more. read more

In addition, most Thai places nowadays have the teeniest tiniest portions at $13+ a plate. Thai BBQ is hands down, one of my favorite Thai spots in the Bay. The portion sizes are so generous and they surely don't skimp on meat. Most of the dishes we ordered were $9.50 or less! On the plus side, there's never a crowd here. The restaurant is almost entirely empty every time I come here. Service is always great with friendly, sweet workers that check on you frequently. Parking isn't a problem since Thai BBQ is located in a pretty quiet plaza with its own parking lot. I highly recommend the chicken pad thai (my fav in Bay Area), beef penang curry (loaded with plentiful tender juicy beef, tom yum soup, and chicken satay. The tom yum was full of flavor- a great balance of tanginess and spices plus plentiful fish, mushrooms, and squid. The drunken noodles were delicious as well, but I wish it was spicier. I appreciate that all of the food wasn't overwhelmingly salty and it didn't leave that heavy and icky feeling after the meal. Thai Original BBQ is a hidden gem in Union City that I never would have come across if it weren't for Yelp. I highly recommend trying this place out at least once! read more

Got the mixed seafood and the swai fish with sweet chili and basil. The seafood flavor was very nice, and a huge portion that we couldn't finish! Would get this again. The swai wasn't the most flavorful and the sweet chili was too sweet. But the basil was a very nice contrast in flavor. Service was nice enough and parking was easy for a Friday lunch. Had no idea there was a Thai BBQ in the East Bay. My family have always gone to the one in Westborough/SSF area. My husband was craving for the S2. However, I was hesitant to eat here because my daughter has a peanut allergy. My husband asked what type of oil they cooked their food in. He was told they cooked their food in soybean oil. Learning that we were good to go. Not the many customers when we arrived. About 15 mins later, a whole crowd came. We ordered the bbq chicken, spareribs, and the chicken fried rice. All were delicious. Cravings were fulfilled. It's a small place. However, we noticed that you might be able to host a party-- about 25 guests on one side of the restaurant. We will be back.
