Confused by some of the poor reviews so felt compelled to balance them out after a lovely meal last night. I've been to Thai Coconut several times now and have enjoyed my meal each time. I've had the pad thai, pad see ew, and several curries and all have been very tasty. Even better than the food, the service is excellent. They are attentive, friendly and very professional. I am vegan, though typically eat here with non-vegan friends, and the staff are considerate, knowledgeable about their menu, and eager to accommodate all. They've offered to modify dishes and suggest alternatives so that I can order items I'd like without sacrificing flavor. Last night, I brought a rescue dog that I am fostering (who can not be left alone) and the staff was very kind and accommodating, allowing us to walk through the restaurant to their outdoor patio seating, bringing him water, and even offering to bring him some food on the house (he can't eat human food -- but thank you!). Love this place. Great food and great staff. Our soup was delicious! We paired it with seafood fried rice and fried tofu. All great. Decently priced. We ended with coffee and it was perfect- strong. We came a few times in the past with our elderly family members, and usually were nicely surprised by the food and service. Today, we were just surprised about the lack of service. There were four of us and we all ordered one entree each, with an additional two appetizers. The app's came quickly and three of the four main dishes came one- by-one, but the fourth item never made it to the table. 1. A group of four of us comes into the restaurant together and I believe one can safely predict that we all want to eat together. So, getting three of the four dishes sporadically delivered to the table was not great, but we dealt with it. 2. We reached out to one of the waitresses when the last dish (my order of Spicy Beef Salad) didn't get brought to the table. She checked the "ticket" and told us that it was not ordered. 3. We told her "Yes, it was", and we all heard me ordering it. - This waitress went ahead and put it into the system, which didn't help the other three dishes stay warm ... 4. The original waitress came and said "You did not order that salad". - I kept telling her, "Yes, I did and the others heard me ordering it". She kept on insisting that I didn't order it, which made me ask her "Are you saying that I am lying?" - She then tried to turn the table on me, by asking me if I think that she is lying all the while smiling at me. - I really tried to stay composed, but at some point I told her that smiling didn't resolve the issue and if she didn't hear me ordering the salad, then she should just acknowledge that. - At some point she did just that by admitting that she "didn't hear" me ordering the salad. Thai Coconut at 1801 Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock, CA is one of the nicest and friendliest restaurants I've been to. I'm vegetarian and have no problem ordering dishes. I think I went to Thai Coconut the same day as the reviewer named Ziggy below and 3 of her family members did, because I was usually there on Sunday. But I think I left before the incident. The waitress Pia was always smiley and warm welcomed me. She is a hard working person. She always repeated my order after I ordered. I don't think she said you were a liar. She was just trying to explain why your order hadn't been placed. If I were her and I thought I didn't hear the order, I would definitely say I didn't hear it. I used to work in the service industry, so I totally understand why the waiter has to always smile when there comes an issue with the customer, because being aggressive would only worsen the situation. And since you were releasing the steam, of course everybody had to let you do it without saying anything to make you feel even worse. I think this was a miscommunication issue, which could be solved. And besides, anyone can do mistakes. I did mistakes all the time, but I learn from it. This reviewer might spoke too softly that the waitress didn't hear. I don't know, because my wife and I were sitting at the other side of the place. I'm really sorry for what happened to her and hope she could find a nice restaurant that could accommodate your need. Please do yourself a favor and visit this wonderful restaurant. Came in with my wife and brother--and my two 50 lb. dogs-- for lunch, and they couldn't have been kinder. Sat us outside and provided individual water bowls for the dogs right away. Super sweet! The service and food were exceptional. I had pad thai and found it to be really flavorful in all the right ways. My wife had a delicious pad se ew, and my brother practically inhaled his green curry (spicy level 6). It has been a while since I last patronized this restaurant and the come back was such a disappointment. Their dishes no longer is authentic Thai as it caters more to the local palate. The fried spicy catfish and yellow curry were no where close to the signature Thai flavor and the latter was passed for pork but chicken with the vegetables still raw. read more

Maybe I'm just not a catfish person. I've driven past this place more times than I could count and not thought of going in because it's tucked away in a shopping plaza. What a hidden, unassuming gem! Plenty of parking in their own lot, nice sized dining area socially distanced, great cool temperate, quiet, with TV on low in the background for guests. There were only other 2 guests inside when I got there, and I was immediately greeted and seated with a menu. Prices seemed fair, and I ordered the Thai tea with Pad Thai (total about $16). The waitress was very friendly, and food was served fresh and hot no more than 15 minutes later (if that, it was very quick service). Food was delicious, authentic, and a big enough portion to split with another person. Great spot! Can't wait to go again. read more

Let's talk about the coconut ice cream here that is served inside of a FRESH, young, coconut, topped with cashews... um, delish. We requested the Panang to be "spicy." My friend told me not to worry, because it isn't even spicy at all.. well, at least to her. I WAS DYING. The scoville's were intense and I've been cucked. I underestimated how spicy it was. As for the actual flavor, it was okay. I didn't hate it, however, the curry was too spicy, I could barely pick up on any flavor because of how numb my tongue felt. I'm normally a huge fan of spicy things, and I can take on a lot of heat, but that night, I felt defeat. (HA, that rhymed!) Since my stroke, my wife and I try to walk 10,000 steps per day - highly recommended, as you will discover places you usually do not find. We've walked up and down Colorado in Eagle Rock various times and found some awesome places. Today we wanted to check out a little Thai place which looks so cozy with a little patio. When we arrived around 7pm, the place was deserted. I do not mind - my wife is company enough for me, but all other places in the area were really busy. So we took this as a bad sign and checked out the Thai Coconut, located more or less accross the street - which was pretty busy, normally a good sign. As we were first timers, we wanted to share a couple of things. We received the starter plate - a huge plate - with the entree, not good. Worse: the rice was totally overcooked, and so was the chicken of our Yellow Thai Curry. The sauce was nice, and the place was "not bad". The service was rather meh, we ate the curry with forks - no chop sticks or spoons in sight. So we were quite happy we took it slow - and did not order more food. Would we go again? Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by. While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked how people use their "power of word" to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all time favourite restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French place does, as I may add). Or I just read "Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish." Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers boxed to take home? As a dog owner, I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "you give over-salted food to your dog? Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea... I hope you agree. So If I had the say on this portal, I would offer just to see ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this simply does not compare to "The Ritz". At first, I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceeded my expectation. Four, if I am sure I will come back. A friend of mine suggested that we go here since we were in the area, and I'm always down for Thai food! This review is solely based on food. Personally, I'd give the food 3.5 if I could but I chose to round up because it satisfied my Thai food craving and the service was great. We ordered the drunken dumplings, pad Thai, and tom yum soup to share. The drunken dumplings were AMAZING. I never had a dish like that where dumplings were drowned in thai curry sauce. So good! I'd highly recommend that dish. The pad Thai was good, the noodles were a perfect texture. It was a little on the sweeter side for me personally but I didn't mind it since it was to share. If I purchased the dish for myself, I don't know I'd I could've finished it. For me, Tom yum is MUST for whenever I get Thai food. The Tom yum was good, but it was missing the depth and spice I was looking for? For a medium, it hardly had any spice and I had to add extra chili just to make it where I wanted it. I definitely have had better Tom yum before, but considering quarantine and not having this dish for so long, it was decent and satisfied that craving. The food here is soo good! Get the rainbow trout and don't miss out on their coconut ice cream served in a young coconut! I recommend ordering directly with them on their website or calling in. They are the nicest staff, they even came in earlier to prepare my large office order. When I arrived for pick up everything was packaged neatly and I love that they separated the sauces for the items that are suppose to be crispy. I don't usually order Angel wings as I really love the soups and sauced thai dishes, however, I'm glad we ordered It as it was really good, plumped stuffed chicken wings cut into halves, the stuffing was delicious and the chicken itself well seasoned and battered, ask for an extra sweet & chili cucumber side salad, it compliments the Angel wings really well. We also ordered the house special shrimp fried rice, it was very good! It has tons of shrimp, sweet onions and egg, it was practically a special dish all by itself.
