Used to come here all the time when I was younger. My favorite thing I always remembered is the bottomless Thai tea that they have here! Yum! This place is not what it used to be. :-( After being away for college, I went here during break since I was craving it so much! Unfortunately, the portions got reduced to a third of what it was and the flavors are so off. The papaya salad basically only has lemon juice. Where's the dried shrimp? The salty flavors? This is my fiance's and my favorite Thai place. Back in our college days, we both worked at a Thai restaurant together where the cook there made THE BEST pad thai and spicy fried rice with mint leaves (the rice version of pad kee mao). Unfortunately, that was in Santa Barbara and we are no longer residing there. We have been in search for our favorite Thai dishes but have had no luck. That is until we came upon this hole in the wall. Every time we eat here, he always orders the Pad Thai and me, the Pad Kee Mao. It's that good! I have yet to try their spicy friend rice only because I've been so disappointed by the previous Thai restaurants we've visited that I'm scared for any more disappointment. Also, with Thai Lovers, I've been so happily satisfied with my noodles that I don't even care for anything else at this time. The employees here are very nice. They even memorized our orders. (Can you tell how often we eat here? ;P) Their prices are reasonable, and they serve free thai iced with refills and free tom yum soup. Portions are generous, food is authentic and tasty, pricing is reasonable and they are open for takeout during Covid which I'm super thankful for. Pad Thai was delicious. If you are not a big fan of the flavor of peanut sauce, steer clear of this dish. My friend ordered chow fun and it was good - nothing spectacular about the dish. The fried rice looked delicious, but I did not take part in chowing down because I was too concentrated on the flavors that erupted from the pad thai. The Vietnamese ladies that were working, were very nice. After my friends and I (a group of six, that day) finished our dishes, one of them came by and asked us if it was enough food for everyone. We were all sharing our dishes. Very sweet gesture to ensure that some random college kids left feeling full. A+ for that! Thai Lovers takes the cake on hospitality. The restaurant is small, but you order and then choose a place in the main area to eat, so it's not too big of a deal. I grew up with my parents making a trip to Grand Century every other weekend, but I never really ventured out of my usual banh bao ngot (sweet custard filling) and banh bao xa xiu (bbq pork filling) accompanied with a freshly made green waffle. Wow. Just wow. I felt like I entered a teleporter and ended up in east Asia because this food was so authentic and all the little shops in the food court/mall reminded me of Asia. If you can find this place, you already passed the first test. It is located in grand century mall and when you enter from the main entrance you turn left and walk down towards the food court. There isn't much seating so I recommend that if you have a large group to call in first and get the food to go. There are no prices on the menu but I ordered a large tom kha soup and spicy crab noodles and before tip it was $20.75. Don't forget to bring cash. We ordered medium spice level for both the dishes and I think we could have gotten medium-hot next time. The portions are really large and you even get a complimentary Thai ice tea with free refills. If this place was in Palo Alto, it could easily sell the spicy crab noodles for close to $20. There is so much crab and flavor in both dishes. I only wish this place was closer. The food is cheap, delicious, and comes out quick, and the service is so friendly to boot. Every meal comes with complimentary Thai iced tea and a cup of tom yum soup, and there are a bunch of condiments you can help yourself to, including crushed peanuts, dried chiles, and hot sauces. I started with the papaya salad with salted crab, a delicious, refreshing combination of shredded green papaya, tomatoes, and peanuts, all in a fish sauce dressing and served over lettuce leaves. The salted crab was the real kicker--you could bite right through the shell, and it added the perfect crunch and briny seafood flavor! I also had the Chiang Mai noodles, a dish of stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp, egg, and bean sprouts--there was a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and savory, and the dish was simply so warming and tasty. The food is good, I usually order the pad thai or the pineapple fried rice. Plus it comes with free iced thai tea and soup! The ladies working there are also friendly, the seating is however, limited. So try to get here early if you're planning on coming on the weekends. And try to order the to-go portion, because you usually get more quantity. I order the large pad thai to go, and it was massive. Depending on the cook that day, your food might taste different. I went over and decided on the Thai iced coffee and the woman said $2. I pull out my credit card and the woman told me two things: They're cash only (whyyyyyy) and that the price was now $3. I tried to mildly argue that she had just told me $2 but gave up after about 2 seconds because I'm dead inside and do not give a shit about anything anymore. The cash only thing really only bothered me because the place is inside a mall and it just seems so weird for any store in any mall to not take credit or debit card. Also, when I got my drink I was able to finish it before I even walked out of the mall. There was probably only a shot and half of liquid in the cup and the rest was entirely ice. This is a random little food stand IN A MALL, the last place in the world you would expect to find good food. But the Thai food here is great. The people were fairly friendly and my pad thai came with soup and everything comes with free thai iced tea which is very tasty (but I unfortunately can't drink at 7:30 at night or it will cost me my night's sleep). We ordered a shrimp pad thai, a tom yum and a green papaya salad with dried shrimp. We were offered 2 thai teas which tasted bizarre, must have been mixed and stayed in the refrigerator too long.
