Decided to get my car wash today but I was definitely in need of some food... Saw this little hole in the wall and figured I'd have a little pho while I wait. I love pho so even if this place kinda sucked, it's still be pretty good. Unbeknownst to me, I fell upon a little hidden gem and funny thing is pho isn't even a part if the regular menu. I sat down and stared at a menu unfamiliar to my eyes with rice noodle soups I'd never had to know because it was always a pho dac biet I looked to order. The owner/waiter asked if I wanted a number on the menu and I gladly obliged. The noodle that was brought out was amazing. Great flavor coaxed out if a broth that seemed so simple. Could definitely taste the lemongrass in the soup and the chili oil was a great compliment. I'm glad I decided to let my hunger get the best of me. read more

Like many have wrote in their reviews, this is a small hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant located in the Shun Fat Supermarket plaza. They have a different special menu item everyday of the week. The inside of this restaurant is small and loud. It's great for a quick lunch but I didn't like the environment at all so I had all my orders togo. I was very surprised when I tried their Monday and Tuesday special. I have never had anything like that before, they are not the regular items you can find at other restaurants. I actually don't think you can find some of those dishes anywhere else. The dishes here are great and different but I wouldn't say they are must-try dishes. If you are in the area and craving for some sort of Vietnamese soup then stop by here but not one of those places I would drive an hour to try it out. read more

I would not recommend ppl to come here. I didn't get what I wanted and the waitress said she will give me something special. I was so disappointed with the watered down soup. The flavors did not go well. I took a bite of it and I told my mom this is terrible I can't eat it. My mom was polite and told me that's rude to leave food here I should just try to swallow it down. I said no it makes me gag I don't want it. The waitress was rude as af. She's one of those people that are like I give u something good but in reality it's not. This is easily the best smallest hole in the wall you will find anywhere. A very limited menu, they specialize in Vietnamese Bun Bo (without the Hue). It's a light soup with some zest in the soup. Every single item on the menu is a Thumbs UP.. They have their daily special as well which is always good. (Monday - Bun Sua which I had was true Vietnamese food at its finest). They also have Bun Rieu and Bun Thang on other days. This restaurant is a MUST GO for all you Vietnamese food lovers and here are the reasons why: A) The place is closed on Sunday (Weekends are money makers for the restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley) These guys are so confident in their food and their ability to suceed that they close on this day. B) The place is closed after 3PM Monday-Saturday. Yes..this means NO DINNER!!! Again, they are so confident in their food quality and taste that they don't give a damn about the Dinner folks. They rather enjoy their life instead of laboring every day. C) The menu is limited. They have close to 22 dishes of which the majority of them are considered to be similar. If you've never been to a certain restaurant before look at the menu. If they have a big menu you are most likely going to strike out. Every restaurant has it's strength and weaknesses...meaning some make good food for certain dishes and weak dishes with everything else. This place has a few items on the menu that are really different. D) The older crowd are here. When I mean older crowd I mean grandfather's and grand-uncle ages. It's their hang out spot. Hello my Yelpies, I never knew this place existed till just a few weeks ago. Thanks to my co-worker for buying it for me and letting me try something new. This place is located right next to the supermarket and their parking lot is shared so you don't ever have to worry too much about finding a space because there's a decent amount of spaces. This is my 4th time coming here because of how delicious their Vietnamese noodle tasted. I rarely give 5 stars to restaurants because I do have higher standards but this place definitely deserves 5 stars because of their service and food. You can't judge a book by it's cover, it definitely doesn't look as appealing as many other restaurant but it got the quality and taste of a 5 stars restaurant. Every single time that I came here they never once failed on me, my favorite time to come will be Tuesday because that is the only day they have their delicious shrimp paste noodle soup. I really wish they can have more than just a day for that special but this is a great way for customers to remember them. Their shrimp paste noodle soup (I do apologize because I don't remember the actual name) was extremely mouthwatering delicious. I was so surprise how much I liked it, the shrimp paste had the perfect texture, the fish cake was so soft that it melts right into your mouth. One thing I thought it was interesting was seeing a big chunk of pineapple, i honestly thought I won something haha!! I will definitely come back Friday to check out their Chicken Noodle Soup. I want to thank the owner for always being so helpful and introducing me to new food that I've never tried in my life. I'm Taiwanese so I rarely step into Vietnamese food and I am very happy to say that I get to have this wonderful experience. Grew up eating here, and it has not changed in flavorful goodness one bit! Yes, the place may seem very modest in decor and setting, but don't let it fool you. The dishes they serve here are outstanding and authentic. Don't let the patrons in there intimidate you when you walk in, they're just a bunch of gossipy old folks that have nothing better to do but to hang out at their favorite eatery spot. (someday...i may be that lucky too!). Every day, there is a specific special of the day that you must nab when you can! My favorite specials are on Tuesdays, Saturdays, & Sundays. Tuesdays serves up Bun Suoung which is a clear broth noodle, stewed with pinneapple, chinese pumpkin, pork and shrimp. Very light and slightly sweet! Saturdays, they serve up Banh Xeo, which are vietnamese pancakes that are pan fried and you wrap them up in dampened rice paper veggies and then dip into their most delicious peanut based sauce...SOOOOO GOOD!! Then finaly...Sundays, they serve Bun Rieu, which is a tomato based soup with ground shrimp paste, pork, and chunks of tomatos in it. Now, these are just the top 3 that I recommend if you go on any of those days. As for EVERYDAY dish, they will always have BUN BO HUE available...and they do serve up a mean bowl! On a cold, rainy gloomy day...this dish will certainly brighten it up...(if not literally, at least your tummy will be satisfied). Granted...some cons to this place is: 1) bunch of older men/women just lounging in there & leering at you when you walk in 2) they close @ 3pm everyday 3) they don't have the best/most welcoming attitude But if you can grin and bear all of these cons...you're in it to win it!! Came here after i had it referred by a friend for their "tuesday special" which is "bun suong." It consists of thin white rice noodle soup with pumpkin, pork, and cabbage. The portion are not relatively large nor does the a/c work well. Seeing that it was 100 degrees today i literally felt like i ate a bowl of steaming lava. On the bright side the soup had quite a distinct sweet/sour flavor which will having me coming back on tuesdays in the near future. 4/5 stars good eats. First time ordered here after seeing the high reviews. Very disappointed. Won't come back 2nd time. Ordered banh xeo and bun bo hue. Banh xeo was hard and the sauce is very weird. I wonder if they gave the wrong sauce. Bun bo hue was the worse I've ever eaten. I could only finished 1/4 the bowl. Soup is water down and meat is chewy. To make matters worse the lady boss screamed at me from the kitchen after I called for some help since no body was at the register. A hidden gem. The food is great. I tried practically everything on the menu....and everything is so delicious!!! They have really good strong ice coffee...and good ice tea (they have those mega huge to go cups)! The prices are super reasonable. Straight up Vietnamese comfort food! Everyday they have a new special that has never failed me. I have tried 5 out of 7 specials all cooked with heart and soul. Granted I love gelatinous nasty bits and they were boiled wonderfully tender but it's not the Bo Kho google images I expected to see. Definitely a legitimate Vietnamese mom/pop shop. There was absolutely no ambiance and a group of old men were gathered around like they hadn't moved for days. Little hole in the wall place. Feels like your typical old school Asian restaurant so don't expect any glitz or glam when you come. However, the Bun Suong is indeed as good as people make it out to be. It sounds like a weird combination: tomato, pineapple, cabbage, pumpkin, fish cakes...but the broth is light yet savory, the noodles are filling, and you just feel so healthy after eating it. Warning though, I didn't check the prices before I ordered because I knew exactly what I wanted and when I got the bill I was surprised that this small bowl of noodles was $9 and it didn't even have real meat in it! Just know this is a hole in the wall type place and do not expect anything more The food was Delish but the atmosphere was a little creepy only because when my friend I got there, there was a big table of what appeared to either be the owners and their friends or a bunch of regulars. I wasn't sure since they were all speaking in a different language and just staring at us. It's tiny and cash only and the lady who took our order was a bit rough but I figure it fits the place. I've come here the last two Sundays with my family because I was craving the bun bo hue and banh xeo ! It's soooo good. The banh xeo is a new thing they started having and I really like it because it's crispy and flavorful! The sauce they have is soo good too ! Being vietnamese, obviously I've had my fair share of a WIDE range of Vietnamese food, but this place has unique dishes I've never tried like their Bun Sua. It's so good!!! Everyday they have a special. This place is so good that I've gone back to try pretty much all of their daily specials and I have not been disappointed yet. Service here is on point!!! The 2nd time we went here, we forgot that it was Cash Only so we didn't have cash on us, we asked the owner where the nearest atm was and she trusted us enough to tell us just come back and pay another time. Of course we came back and paid another time!!! She speaks English so that's a plus for those who don't speak Vietnamese. Here is the daily special: Mon: Bun Sua Tue: Bun Suong Wed: Bo Kho This: Closed Fri: Pho Ga Sat: Bun Rieu and banh xeo Sun: Bun Rieu??? I'm not sure if this just happened on the Sunday I went or if it really was the special. Great food!!!! All of the specials were so good!!! This is my favorite bun spot of all time for their bun suong!! It is very authentic to da nang (my moms home city in Vietnam) the broth is nice and sweet and their fried pork dumplings goes so well with the overall dish! Uh... what should I say about this place... I visit on daily basis to grab their iced coffee with milk, Vietnamese style. Why is it not called an iced latte? Beats me, but apparently that's the only way you'll get the right drink.... unless you speak Vietnamese. I've ate here a number of times until i realized that a $7 lunch with rice noodles in light broth is hardly satisfying. So I only go for coffees now and once in a while for lunch when I feel like i need to eat light... Ignore the intimating stares when you first walk in the place. Love supporting small businesses and was excited to try this place. Nice and pleasant service (hence the star) but the food was beyond disappointing. Went on a Saturday with the daily specials of bun rieu ($8.25 small) and banh xeo ($9). The taste of the bun rieu was subpar with underwhelming quality meats (although very tender but also flavorless) but the biggest and probably one of the worst dishes I have the unfortunate pleasure of tasting was the banh xeo. A very expensive order of super soggy and bland banh xeo that lacked turmeric, scallions/onions, mung beans, pork belly (had 2 little pieces), shrimp (6 small shell-on) etc. and the most important component of this dish should be the crispiness of the shell, which also lacked. If this is how the chef intends to serve this dish (without the essential components as a traditional banh xeo), then fine, I can respect that BUT the dish was not executed properly. I simply cannot find myself paying $9 plus tax for 2 globs of doughy and tasteless vietnamese crepes and I would never forgive myself if I caught myself inside this establishment again read more

I have been eating out a lot since I came to California 35 years ago but to me, this is the only restaurant that you can find the best bun bò Hue ( spicy beef soup Central Vietnamese way) & My Quang ( yellow noodles with pork & shrimps). The beef soup has a special aroma & beautiful color which increase your appetite!. Believe me, no where can you find such good dishes. I ate these dishes at other restaurants in Orange County like V D, Ng Bình, Hng Giang or Kim Hoa Hue in El monte & some other restaurants in San Jose, but none beat these dishes here. Other dishes like Banh xèo ( shrimp & pork crêpe) served on Sat & Sun which is very good too & Bun Sua( jelly fish noodle) on Monday, Bún suông (shrimps noodle with cabbage & red squash bí đ) on Tuesday, all are tasty & good. The restaurant is open every day except Thursday, from 8:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. Price is reasonable. read more

this restaurant is incredible :) we were staying at the courtyard right next door and went to huge tree pastry for breakfast one morning, but noticed that this charming noodle place was opened right next door at the crack of dawn, so decided to give it a try! we went on a saturday and got their saturday bun rieu special, which came out in promptly like 3 minutes (probably cause they had the soup already good to go). the portion was huge, tons of thicker noodles and veggies to accompany the generous serving of soup. the soup itself was so so so so good!! my exact type of taste, very tomato forward with a beautiful undertone of seafood and pork. the actual soup itself didn't have a ton of meat in it, but for 11 dollars after tax, it was PERFECT for breakfast!! they also gave a ton of veggies and their homemade chili crab paste reminded me a lot of super tasty sambals ive had in the past, and it was delicious and warming to eat in the morning! was such a huge fan and would definitely frequent this place often if i lived close by :) read more

DO NOT COME HERE. When I go to an Asian restaurant, I am prepared for the service to suffer a bit as a trade off for cheaper prices. This place, however, manages to screw you in both departments. Since my friend was vegetarian, we were a bit worried when we scanned the menu for some vegetarian-friendly options. We were informed by the extremely curt waitress that there was one option, some egg dish, that was actually vegetarian. She did not speak enough English to even tell us what the dish involved, but continued to pressure us to make the selection and not leave the restaurant. Lo and behold, the dish ended up being 3 eggs and a piece of French bread. That egg dish cost $6. SIX. F*CKING. DOLLARS. I could've bought two dozen eggs for that much money. There wasn't even anything special about the eggs--they were just normal, sunny-side fried eggs. When the bill came, we were surprised that there was a 3rd item on the receipt, and upon asking we were informed that they charged for tap water. The moment I asked about it, the waitress immediately told us what the charge was for and blamed us for not reading the menu closely. She thrust a menu at us and pointed to the very bottom where ice water was listed with tea as a $0.50 charge per person. The fact that she was so swift with an answer to this question with such indignation clearly indicates we were certainly not the first customers to have been disturbed by this unexpected expense, especially since it was just tap water. While it certainly is not illegal to charge for tap water, it's nearly unheard of for a restaurant to charge for it since... well, it's f*cking tap water. I would expect a charge for bottled water but to charge for water from your probably questionable water spout? That's f*cking unheard of. This is literally the first time I've ever been charged for tap water in my entire life. Since they clearly knew that they were charging for something that is 99.9% assumed to be a free courtesy, they should have been upfront with being an obscene outlier from the rest of the more civilized restaurants in Los Angeles. It's deceitful and they were completely unapologetic for it. Do not come here. There are plenty of other authentic Vietnamese restaurants in this area that are much kinder and provide much better service than this little sh*thole in the wall. read more
