The food and cocktails were great, some on which included steaming duck fart and the blue cheese chips. The food came out quickly but was not sloppy. We go there early so it was not too crowded but by the time we left it was jumping. This seems to be a very popular eatery with people in the area, for good reason. The only thing that was a negative (and not an extremely bad thing if you are an understanding person) was the staffing. They are obviously understaffed with what looked like one lady to serve the dinning room and bartend. She had help with people from the kitchen to bring out food but she was rushed and could not give personal service to each table. But even though she was being pulled in many directions she was still professional and friendly. If you go here, please do not berate the people who decide to show up for work and give them a tip to show your appreciation for them. This place is a 100% recommend. read more

Always wanted to try the original location but heard it was always packed! Was so happy to hear they opened one closer to me. The fried artichokes were good and crispy, house salad was big and pretty fresh (yummy raspberry jalapeño vinaigrette), fish and chips were perfect and dessert was delicious. Had been wanting to try this place for a while especially with a new location more convenient for me. I got the fish and chips and my wife got the burger. The Alyeska Shepards pie had no resemblance to any shepards pie i have made or consumed. Think of a bowl of chili (spicy) with a dollop of mashed potatoes on top, no cheese. I visited twice, and they struck out on visit two. The burgers are ok. I liked that they use grass fed beef and elk. I sat at the bar both times. They have a printed set of intimdating RULES that seem to go back to their original Alaskan roots, but the servers seem to still have a back-woods negative attitude. The server and the manager became rude and argumentative with me over 69 cents. No, I am not paying an extra charge that was not presented to me when I ordered. The bartender said she cant pay her bills without it. Well, be nice and provide good service, that will fix itself. I literally live next door and could walk here on a regular basis, but over 69 cents and your rude behavior, you lost all future business. So, I have been to Alaska several times for 2-3 week stays at a time and I have experienced food offerings in Anchorage, Denali, Sitka and all up and down the Kenai Peninsula. I had an expectation, you might say for this restaurant when I walked in the door. This fun atmosphere, with laid-back, happy and attentive staff was just what my wife and I needed for dinner and it was reminiscent of many restaurant experiences in the 49th! I ordered the Kodiak Burger (Elk and Beef Chuck) cooked medium rare with fires, and my wife ordered the Cod Fish and Chips. Both meals came out to our table in mere minutes and were piping hot, beautiful to the eye, served on slate plates and smelling fantastic! We were not disappointed at all with how each dish tasted and were often snagging bites off of each other's plates. Our dining experience included casual conversation with the Owners, our servers and some folks at a table nearby. It was like having dinner at a friend's house, but the cooking was better! Went back tonight and our jalapeño poppers were cold inside and just GIANT blobs of batter. So different than the last time we ordered them. Went here yesterday with some friends. Service was good, food was good, atmosphere adequate. What irks me is that this business automatically adds another 7% charge to your total to supplement the kitchen help. Plus, it seems that the trend now is to add this charge, as well as the tax to your bill, when it is brought to you for payment. Bottom line, you are tipping on an extra 15% that has been added to your total bill. This practice really offends me, and I never return to the business that does this. I am happy to support those places who don't. I have always ripped at least 20% for good service, but I am not about to pay 35% more just for the just for the privilege patronizing their business.
