This bakey located inside the food court at "The Source Mall OC" on the same floor as the movie theater (4th floor) All their bread is super fresh and delicious but they have two type of bread that they learned/brought from Daejeon Korea called "Sungsimdang" First one is "Gombo Ppang" and the other one is "Buchoo Ppang" Gombo bread has red beans inside with walnuts and top has flavored crumbs with almond bits (almost like a regular donut times 10) Buchoo bread has chives inside the bread and outter bread is super soft. This particular bread is very unique and different (this is the only place that does this type of bread) These two are a MUST if you are ever in the area. I bought 6 of each on new years eve and I finished it already. I haven't had the chance to try out their cake yet but I heard good things about their cake being good too. I will update the review once I try it. Also the way how they package the bread is professionally done. They pack your breads inside of the box that displays their name and they even use regular paper bag instead of plastic bag. The bear that is imprinted on the box is cute too along with more bears you'll see when you visit the store. It seems like the last twice I went the lines super pretty long for a bread shop. I love places like this versus corporate stores because they make everything fresh there especially the dough (other chain bread stores get their dough delivered from the factory) The price of bread can seem pricy but taste will make up for the cost. Disappointed in the milk cream donut. As you can expect, the ratio of cream to pastry is way off. The pastry tasted stale to me (compared to properly risen dough). And finally, the cream itself was nothing to die for; didn't really taste like milk, and there were some tangy notes (cream cheese maybe). One compliment I can give is that it was not too sweet. We always stop by this bakery in the food court when we're in the Source. Sometimes they have samples and they're always really nice and answer all our questions. Their bag is also really cute - I like the artwork. I was hangry while waiting for our table at Gangam House and had to eat something fast before something bad happened. So I grabbed a red bean donut of theirs and OMG it tasted like the best thing ever. I could taste the quality of the ingredients and it was awesome. You have the combination of the soft, chewy, sweet donut texture infused with fluffy flavored cream in the middle. It is not as sweet as you would imagine, which is why it has the right taste. I love the custard bun from this place. It's a bit pricey however I am willing to pay for it. The custard ratio to bread is perfect. Also, it is not overly sweet. There are two locations in the same area. One is more like an express which is perfect. I can get what I want quickly. The sit down bakery is quaint and has a store attached to it. The pastries are not good anymore and the prices are way too high. For instance these are some 2x2 inch pastries on show that are a few days old, worth $7.50 + tax. Today I got a $5 scone. It was smaller than the palm of my hand. It was completely dry, I couldn't finish it. The baristas are always nice, and the place is comfortable (apart from the loud music and very cold air conditioning) but the coffee is not what it used to be either. My husband, son, and I randomly visited here this evening. The donuts were delicious! They are suiuuuper filling so you probably can't even finish one but they are great. I usually come by to purchase a handful of pastries with no issues. Although from my recent visit, I notice the customer service is like mid. I was on the third floor and I asked the cashier if I could just get a bigger bag (since what I bought was stuffed in that small paper bag). He refused to give me a bigger bag. I was pleasantly surprised by this bakery. At first glance, it seems very similar to every other Korean bakeries. My girlfriend picked up some treats for her baby, and she shared some with me. I literally ended up immediately buying the same pastries that she did right after I sampled hers because they were that good. She didn't care for the walnut cookies that look like little dollops because they were more on the dry and crunchy side and didn't taste like the traditional cookies. I, on the other hand, enjoyed that they tasted differently and had their unique rendition of the walnut cake cookie. It tasted more like an Italian cookie to me. Some are crunchier on the outside and some are softer. It all tasted delicious to me. Keep in mind, I prefer more simple cookies like this. Then, the red bean and cream bread. Goodness gracious - there is a perfect layer of red bean (about 20% ratio) and then whipped cream (about 80% ratio). This whipped cream didn't taste like the standard fresh cream that is mild and light. This cream tasted like a hybrid of cake frosting/icing that was mixed in with whipped cream. So it wasn't too dense and not too light. This is ridiculously good. I have not seen this (what seems) common combination at any other Korean bakery. I checked other yelpers photos of the yuzu cake which I did not see (which is probably in the cake window display section) because I was too mesmerized looking at the bread section. They also offer the fluffy & airy sesame bread balls in a bag 3 for $5 or 2 for $4. This is pricier than other Korean bakeries, but they are jumbo sized. A cute Korean bakery located at The Source mall in Buena Park. It is kind of small, so not many tables inside. Also I was thinking it would be similar to other Korean bakeries I've been to, with lots of pastries that you can choose from, but instead there were only some selections at the counter and some cakes in the display case. Lady at the counter told me that they were known for their red bean filled soboro bread and their buchu (chives) bread, so I got both of those, along with their handmade choco pie. Choco Pie is a popular Korean snack (they even sell it at Costco now, so mainstream!), and they make their own version, so I had to get that. I really liked the soboro bread and the choco pie, but I wasn't a fan of their buchu bread. It's just personal preference, but it was too savory, even for me. Overall, I'd recommend this place to others, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. If you're in the area, stop by, you can also walk around the Source mall for other eateries. They usually have slices of it in the front to try! Once you try you will have to buy a whole box!!! They give you this really cute box & bag to hold the bread when you get 6 or more. I always wonder why is there a bakery at the food court... it seems unusual but later thought it was such a genius act on the business part. Being said, the bakery is located at the food court of the OC Source right next to the boba store. Where they also have a cafe on the second floor of the complex. I am not very familiar with Korean style bread and never really paid attention to it until I tried their sample of the signature gombo donut and felt in love with it. I had their red bean filling combo donut and immediately got hooked on it. The red bean paste inside are made out of real red beans that you occasionally bite into full uncrushed red bean, and they are not too sweet at all. With the slight crunch of those crust layer over the bread..... it is so good! It is called a donut probably because the bread was fried, and yes it does get a bit oily ( probably the only thing I would complaint about, you could see it on the paper bag that you are holding the bread with). But it was very satisfying as an afternoon snack or even after dinner dessert . It for sure one of those guilty pleasure treat. As a side note, I thought all Korean bakery offers it and I tried another one that I come across, and it's just not the same, no crunch, not enough red bean filling and not as freshly made. Gombo bread: you have 2 flavors to choose from : sweet potato and redbean. The donut it self is deep fried but not oily enough to give you little crisps and it is filled with either sweet potato or red beans which give you sweetness and the softness at the same time! it really melts in your tongue with little crispiness with soft sweet filling. Tips: please please please do go get some bread on 9:30am or 10am in the morning if you can!!!! they start baking the breads from 5am in the morning everyday and by the time around 9:30-10amish, they start pack and displays the breads on the tray. if you stop by early in the morning you might get a chance to enjoy warm steamy bread which melts in your mouth!! I was told it had no nuts and the package also doesn't list any type of nut as an ingredient. I take 2 bites of the bread and feel my throat start to close up. On the page, it says they're closed at 8pm, but the day I checked this place out, they were getting ready to close around 9/9:30, but still serving customers, which is great! I got a chocolate tart, which was about $4/5, which is pretty expensive! I got that for my mom and she liked it. Wasn't too sweet, so that's good. I also got one of their cream puffs. For $1, it's not too bad, but it was a bit on the stale end. They have a wide variety of pastries and I hope this bakery does well.
