I was visiting the SFMOMA and was looking for a quick bite. I saw lots of great reviews so I wanted to try it out for myself. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich with curly fries for to go. The service was pretty quick. The sandwich was on the spicier side but I really enjoyed it. Everything was tasty and I'd definitely recommend! Can't wait to go back soon!
I ordered chicken biscuit and tots via Uber Eats at 1:19pm while at a conference nearby. When I arrived less than 10 minutes later, my order was ready. The food was the appropriate temperature and order was mostly correct. The biscuit itself was somewhat dry, unfortunately, as was missing butter sauce on it. The biscuit was falling apart from being more hard than it being soft. This was disappointing. The tater tots were average.
The chicken sandwich had the strangest texture I've ever encountered for a protein option. I should have taken a photo of how STRINGY and BOUNCY the meat was. It honestly felt like I was eating rubber. Since this was a work lunch I had already ordered, I begrudgingly ate it anyway. Overall, the experience was a bit traumatizing, and I won't be trying anything from this place again. I'm also big on presentation. The patty was square-shaped and paired with a round bun, definitely unique, but visually unsettling. To make matters worse, everything arrived cold. Not a fan!
We grabbed fried chicken sandwiches and loaded tater tots on our way to the ballpark. The chicken had a nice crispy crust that held up during the walk to the ballpark. The slaw was good, but I would have enjoyed a little more in the sandwich. The thigh meat had quite a bit of silverskin membrane present, which made it a little hard to get off a clean bite. The tater tots were okay and probably would have tasted better if eaten right away. I should have opened the lid so that the steam didn't make them soft while we walked. This is a tiny storefront with a few tables inside. If in the area again, I would return since the chicken sandwich is tasty and reasonably priced.
Overall a pretty decent spot. Stopped by here while working Dream Force at the St. Regis and it's literally right behind the hotel. Upon entering there was a long line and was very busy. I ordered the chicken biscuit with tater tots and it was decent. We are in the city so everything will be over priced. Overall not too bad.
Was first introduced to The Bird at a special event where they were serving their sandwich. Two choices: Spicy or not spicy? And I remember how spicy it was! Now it's a regular spot for me. They made new fans of me and I brought others who became new fans too Menu is simple. Get your burger (or salad!), fries or tots, and a soda! Simple enough right? Also really appreciate them offering $8 "the naked bird" if you want a protein+vegetable option without eating the bun! Which can make for a small light meal if you're on a diet Chicken is JUICY and batter is not too thick, done so well. This is a fast casual restaurant located in downtown San Francisco. You order with a person or on a tablet. They'll call out your name when your order is ready and if ordered on the tablet you'll receive a text. I was there during a busy lunch hour. I got my food within five minutes. Even if it's crowded they are churning out food quickly. It would be nice if tables were wiped down more frequently and napkins were restocked. But they were busy. There is dining options for inside or outside. On to the food. The chicken sandwich is huge! There was a lot of food. I could not finish. Their food is consistent and tasty. My sandwich had too much mayo for my personal preference so I'd ask for lite next time. Many of the folks who were walking by kept saying how good the food was here! So it's definitely a popular cheap eat in SF. I think for me personally it's a not a spot I would frequent as it is heavy food. But when you're ready for a big meal at a nice price. This is a good spot to pop in.
This is my go-to spot for lunch when visiting the MOMA close by. Leaving the museum and heading over for a delicious lunch is key to seeing all the exhibits. Their chicken has a nice crunch while still being flavorful and juicy. The loaded cheesy tots are also a great option if you want something delicious but smaller. The spot had plenty of seating (including a few spots outside) which makes dining in quite easy. It is 100% my first preference when visiting the museum/the area.
Came back to The Bird to give it a try after a couple of years. The first time the chicken sandwich didn't hit the spot. I don't remember if it was the normal or spicy but from my old photo, it was drier and didn't have a wet sauce coating. I felt like it had too much of a cinnamon flavor. I'm glad I went back, and for happy hour too which is a plus. This time I got the spicy chicken sandwich. It was packed with flavor, super moist, the one thing I didn't like was how stringy the piece of chicken was. It made eating it a bit tough as it ripped in long shreds. I didn't experience the cinnamon flavor that I didn't like the first time which was good. The curly fries were nicely seasoned but we did get mostly tiny end pieces which made it hard to eat. The mango habanero wings have a nice kick but do lean towards a sweeter and mango flavor. The item I would skip is the apple fritter bites. They were over fried with inconsistent saucing on top. A bit dry and had that old oil taste. The first bite was really not good, the other two were slightly softer and had more drizzle on top. The staff were very nice and food came out quick.
Quick delicious bite! Spicy chicken sandwich and tots - was a great mid day pick me up. Chicken was moist and the tots were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Would I go back? Yes!!
Came here on a Tuesday night while it was raining outside, so there were very few customers in the restaurant. Was able to place self order using the kiosk right away. Received the original spicy chicken sandwich for dine-in quickly! The slaw, buns, and pickle were nice! The flavor of the sauce and the crunch of the breading were both great, only complaint is the quality of the cut/piece of chicken itself - the meat was incredibly stringy - making for a really hard time in trying to get clean bites out of the sandwich. Bar tables were kept clean and stocked with napkins and wet naps. Love they give water cups to fill up at the fountain. Clean and tidy bathroom. Will always pay a visit when in the area - just wish prices were lower.
The Bird has the best fried chicken sandwich in the city. At $10.25 for the sandwich and $5.50 for loaded curly fries, it's still a great deal. The chicken is thick and moist. The bun is grilled and pillowy and the coleslaw pairs nicely with it adding crunch and tanginess. The curly fries were topped with sour cream, cheddar sauce, green onions and bacon. A caloric dense meal but oh so worth it. Service is quick too, I got my order in under 10 minutes. Ordering is through a tablet and staffs were friendly.
Fried chicken Sando here is always on point. The batter they use is really crispy and tasty. The chicken is hot, soft and tender. This is a very hot sandwich so I advise to wait a few minutes before taking a bite as I burned my tongue a couple of times. The sauce, coleslaw and pickles work so wonderfully well with the sandwich. This was yummy to the last bite! It can get pretty busy here during lunch time but if you come around 11:30 the wait is minimal. Took about 10 min for me to get my food. There is a touchscreen to order food but you can always walk up and order with the cashier. Sometimes I think it's faster that way instead.
During a recent stay in San Francisco I was really craving a chicken sandwich and maybe some wings, and then I found "The Bird." The menu consists of wings, fries, and a few different chicken sandwiches. Living overseas, I tried the buffalo wings and the buffalo chicken sandwich - the wings were good, a flavor that I had truly missed. The sandwich wasn't bad, but I felt that the buffalo sauce didn't taste the same way on the sandwich as it did on the wings, and I honestly didn't love it. If I were go to back I would try a different sandwich. The ordering process was so seamless and quick within one minute of me placing my order, my sandwich came out piping hot. This place indexes on efficiency and freshness. The menu is super limited, but with that being said, they do the few items pretty damn well. I had gotten the fried chicken sandwich and then a side of the apple fritters and I was really impressed by the price in proportion to the quality of the sandwich. This was such a cheap meal, but it was also so high-quality. The chicken was so juicy and the pickles and slaw were the perfect compliment. If I had one note, I probably would have liked it if the chicken was crispy, but I know that's not what they were going for and I still really enjoyed the sandwich nevertheless. The apple fritters were also a nice carb crash, although they were a little bit cold and I wish they were warmer. The downside of having to go back into the office is that I have to get used to getting up early for a 1 hour commute. The positive side is that I get to see friends and ..... go to the Bird for lunch!!! I have had my fair share of chicken sandwiches but the Birds chicken sandwich is head and shoulders above all others. For the last 3 years of working from home, I had the craving for Bird chicken sandwich and tried a number of places in the south bay but nothing could compare. I used to take vendors here for lunch years ago and every now and again when I talk to them they bring up how much they enjoyed going to the Bird. I get the spicy version and it burns sooo good! It's got kick! But the good part is that it's a significant sized piece of chicken and it is fried up perfectly so it is crispy on the outside yet moist on the inside. The house made slaw on the top sets it off perfectly. Prior to the pandemic you would have to wait on a line that went out the door and down the street. There is still a line but there are just not as many people around like there used to be. The service is great and they knock the orders out quickly. Checked out the bird yesterday after a volleyball tournament at the Moscone! It was only a couple of blocks away walking which was super convenient! Also they were open on Labor Day!! The chicken sandwich was delicious! I'm sometimes worried about dry chicken when I order these sandwiches, but not here!! The chicken was tasty and tender. I didn't try the spicy, but someone said it wasn't too spicy and he wished it was hotter. The tater tots were delicious too! While visiting San Francisco a friend said we HAD to eat at The Bird and he was 100% correct. Ordering is easy. They have touchscreen POS stations or you can order from the QR code on your table. The food is delicious. They do a few things and do them VERY well. Chicken sandwiches come regular or spicy. You can add or remove cheese, coleslaw, etc. Fries come plain or loaded. First timer at The Bird All meat is chicken thigh, which I only enjoy breast so I opted out of chicken and just got loaded taters, which I love! My partner got the spicy chicken sandwich and curly fries. We both haven't had curly fries in a long time. Went on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It's a self service place so we sat on a window seat and ordered. We got a spicy chicken sandwich and curly fries with a couple of beers. I really liked the sandwich (4.5/5) but my husband is more of a chicken sandwich expert and he said he would rate it 3.5/5. We proceeded to order online and then walk to this place from our conference. Within the next 15 minutes we received our order. One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I have had. Had heard a lot about The Bird and it didn't disappoint! Definitely a different type of hot chicken sandwich. Dry rubbed with a hint of sweetness and a heat that sneaks up on you. The sandwich had a great apple slaw and pickles on it. Really liked the slaw but I do think the pickles over powered a lot of the flavour of the sandwich. Definitely recommend the wings though. Super juicy, tons of flavour, seemed spicier than the sandwich as well but nothing too wild. A very messy meal but they have plenty of paper towels and even wet wipes to help out. I'm usually not a sandwich because they get soggy easily and can be bland but the bird's fried chicken sandwich exceeded my expectations. There's a pleasant crunch to the chicken and the sauces were bursting with flavor. It's reasonably priced and very filling! I also got the loaded fries during this visit with friends, but unfortunately they didn't wow me as much. They're good and nothing is wrong with them, but it just didn't draw me in like the sandwich did. Maybe the sauce was too strong. Maybe the sandwich was too good. The biscuit chicken sandwhich came with tater tots. The original chicken sandwich was average. The bun was a little bit soggy, and lacked flavor. What do you mean by regular/classic? I ordered a regular, but it was very spicy. When people are choosing between regular or spicy, are they really choosing between "spicy" and "extra spicy?"
Our classic has a slight kick to it and our spicy chicken gets a coating our spicy sauce. Most people would probably give the classic a 1-2 out of 10 on the spicy scale. You may have had a spicy instead of classic if it was very spicy.

It all depends on the time you come in. During lunch time, we have a long line from 11:30am-1:30pm and your average wait time will be in between 5-10mins only waiting in line, but you’ll have your sandwich in hands within minutes or even seconds…

Michael, we have happy hour daily from 4-7pm. Our happy hour consist of $2 wings but there not your average party chicken wings, we serve the whole wing, it’s a huge wing if you ask me. Also, our tall beer cans are $1 off during happy hour.
