This has been one of my favorites on my trip to bodega Bay for both coffee and lunch. A very extensive menu, great view, and lots of seating, indoor and outdoor. My family had the chicken tenders and fish tacos and we were very pleased. We didn't try any of the coffee, but our extended family did and really enjoyed it. Amazing fish and chips!!! The restaurant was delightfully themed as apart of the towns' special tie to Alfred Hitchcock famous movie- The Birds. Restaurant was clean and had welcoming staff. The location was prefect right off the road and had plenty of parking. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the bay on the deck and loved that it's dog friendly. read more

We have been here at least four times over the years - never disappointed. We came for dinner tonight and was pleased with the covid protocols. Social distancing measures in place and you order from the little window on the side and then pick up your order from the back. The woman taking my order was very friendly and nice! No line when I was there - waited maybe 15 minutes while my food was cooked to order. I ordered it to go - they boxed it up nicely and I was able to get it home while it was still warm. Fish was tender and flaky with a crisp exterior. Tartar sauce, ketchup and lemon wedges were provided. Two fish was more than enough food. Also tried the artichoke fritters which came with a side of ranch dressing. Delish! Perfect fried seafood meal here on the coast. read more

Very delicious artichoke tacos! That sounded strange to me but my daughter, a very knowledgeable foodie, highly recommended them. It took us 3 years to finally try them. The first year the restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday. The second year they had a sign- closed for emergency. This year the hours said open until 6 and we arrived at 5:20 and they were cleaning up and not making food. They told us 6 is when they leave! So we returned the next day and finally got some. I have longtime friends who are a couple and one half is an omnivore, and the other half is a mostly vegan-vegetarian. Because of this good complexity, I love it when they suggest a food adventure because we are bound to try something new to us, and that's how we found the birds cafe. We made the trip out for a late lunch/early dinner, and the sun was still up and bright. The line to the ordering window was long, and the wait was immense. We decided on our order well before we made it even two slots forward, so needless to say we were prepared. Multiple times, who seemed to be the "boss lady" from the back came out to prepare us for the ordering process and to remind us we had to socially distance, wear our masks, and thanked us for our patience. Once we got to the window, I ordered the artichoke tacos for me, onion rings to share, fish and chips for him, and the ace passionfruit cider for the hot weather. Our friends ordered the shrimp tacos, artichoke tacos, and some cold drinks as well. The food was done pretty quickly, which was great, and we took them up to the deck to eat. Everything we had was overcooked. The fry oil tasted like something had burned in it, and so everything had a faint to not so faint tang of carbon which was off-putting. The texture of the artichoke tacos was good, and extra points for inventiveness because I had never seen an artichoke taco before. Hubby said the fish itself tasted good but he too said everything was fried too long and that was apparent even in the simple color of the items. The onion rings were so soggy and so over-fried that I couldn't get through even one ring before I surrendered. While we hung out in the deck area, we witnessed a lot of drama in the parking lot of desperately hungry or hangry patrons vying for parking spots and it got a little verbally combative. We were glad we had arrived early as to avoid this. Parking was definitely an issue and would be a deterrent to me coming back unless we were able to intentionally catch them on a slow day. Prices were ok for the area, which otherwise tends to be more pricy than other spots inland. That said, I definitely do not believe that the prices reflected in the quality of the food, with desperately needed some quality assurance before going out to the patrons. If their fry cook tasted a single onion ring, they would have definitely known it was cooked too long or their fry oil needed to be changed out. Positives were that they were super friendly in the shack, and the gentleman at the ordering window was especially kind and humorous- if the review had been just for the people, I would have said 5 stars. The location also is hard to beat, with incredible views from almost any angle. That said, the review is for the food and that sadly, was a bust. I would however return here well before returning to Fishetarian just down the road, and hubby said he agreed with this as well. read more

I am already looking forward to coming back here. We arrived after closing hours, not knowing they were supposed to be closed. Staff still invited us to eat and sit and take our time as they closed and cleaned. We appreciated that. We had shrimp tacos and BBQ oysters, fantastic! I only suggest a tad dash of salt in the batter but I can easily add a little myself. The view is wonderful and relaxing. The atmosphere is chill and inviting. This place Also has a cafe and gift shop, but they were closed so we couldn't explore that, but through the windows, everything looked cute. It appeared that they have breakfast burritos and such. The prices looked fair on the breakfast menu that I seen through the window. One thing we want to suggest to this wonderful place is some little fire pits outside and they could sell and serve little smores kits. Also! Stay open longer in the evening. Visiting a nearby beach and then leaving hungry with this place right in route would be perfect for your late night evening. read more

But the taste of delicious lobsters warmed my soul reminded me of my times growing up in Rhode Island. Alas and ahoy I made it. Overall it's good, definitely recommend. This is our 2nd time here. First time was over summer. This place is amazing! I wana gatekeep but tell everyone I know at the same time! The 2 hr drive is worth it!! Everything fresh and taste is like no other! The fish and shrimp were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I will say the garlic and herb oysters are my fave! And the lobster roll was nowhere near dry. I think we'll start making the trip every other month from now on. read more

This was just a drive-by pop in and catch a bite to eat kind of visit. Fish and chips sounded good and the view was amazing. I couldn't help but notice the bird on the sign which reminded me of the birds in the movie birds. I decided to order the shrimp and chips versus the fish and chips and I was pleasantly impressed. As I was waiting for my food the owner came by and had a wonderful conversation with me. I didn't know he was the owner he just seemed like a friendly guy who I asked about why the birds on their sign looks similar to the birds in the movie and of course he mentioned that the previous owner which is a relative was featured in the movie which started another conversation about the various scenes of the movie that took place within the block of the Establishment Getting back to my experience the service was great the food was fast and absolutely delicious I didn't want my fries but they were so good I finished them as well The view is absolutely spectacular and the drive up is also great. We have been coming here for years - it is our very favorite spot for fish and chips and shrimp tacos. My dad is a fish and chips fanatic and after being brought here, he demands to go on every visit. We bring everyone here to be honest. And just to be fair - we've tried the local competitors (The Boat House just across the parking lot, Fishetarian which always looks packed, Rocker Oysterfeller's when we want a more "restaurant" style vibe. . . ) The owner is super friendly and personable (though I wish all the staff were aware of the "secret menu" style options he told us about early on - asking for half and half of things tends to lead to confusion even though he told us we could). Believe me when I tell you - these shrimp tacos are the ultimate against which I compare all other shrimp tacos. They are phenomenal. The fish and chips is amongst the best I've ever had (rivaling Poppie's in London and McDonagh's in Galway for a place in my heart). The light and puffy batter has herbs in it which I have never seen anywhere else. The artichoke fritters are fab (again, try your hand at asking for 1/2 fritters 1/2 onion rings - that's our jam). Even the more recently opened cafe is great - friendly service, good drinks, excellent soft serve. Parking can be tough, and the line can be long, but it's always worth it, every single time. We've also picked up our food to go and driven down the hill to the marina to sit right on the water to eat. The fries go a little soggy, but that was a great option on cold and windy days or during COVID. I will forever compare all other joints to this one. read more

Cute little cafe. The inside is filled with photos, artwork, and other memorabilia related to the classic Hitchcock film. Super fun as a fan to look around at that stuff while waiting for your drink to be made. Service was quick and the woman who took the order was very nice. Ordered a toffee nut latte with oat milk and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. The latte was good. The Kirkland signature oat milk they used was steamed perfectly, which isn't easy to do with that stuff. I've used the same milk and have never gotten foam that creamy. Flavor fairly standard though. That fifth star in this review is for the cookie. That cookie. It's been a couple days and I keep thinking about it. Lots of chocolate chips, light flaky salt in every bite, and the ideal texture for a cookie - very lightly crispy around the edges and super soft on the inside. We we were on the hunt for raw oysters in Bodega Bay and stopped by a couple other nearby places before finally finding them here! Out of the three places we stopped, this place was by far the nicest and has a gorgeous deck that overlooks the bay. There's also an ample amount of seating and lots of umbrellas, perfect for a sunny day. You place your order at the window and get a beeper to let you know when your food is ready. I promise it's worth the wait if there's a line. The girl at the window was very friendly. We ordered a dozen oysters, a lobster roll and the spinach salad. Everything was delicious! The oysters were perfect and I loved the mignonette sauce. The lobster roll was juicy (not too much mayo) and served on a brioche bun that was cooked to perfection. The spinach salad had Gorgonzola and a raspberry dressing. My sister-in-law had the prawns and chips which were huge and she enjoyed them. We were happy we parked up one of the residential streets because the parking lot got really busy. They also have an ice cream and coffee shop next door! Had half dozen raw and half dozen cooked oysters, and artichoke fritters. The raw oysters were some of the sweetest most tender oysters I have ever had (great job hog bay oysters). The bbq oysters were also pretty tasty. The artichoke fritters were crispy and light. The staff was very polite, friendly, and happy. Glad this place was right off the side of the road because I had no reception and couldn't find the restaurant I originally wanted to go to. This was an easy find but drive slow or you'll miss the turn. We went close to when it first opened so there were plenty of tables outside and the line wasn't too long. We did 6 bbq Hogs Island oysters, fish tacos, shrimp tacos and the clam chowder - with an order of white shark beer on tap to wash it all down. The oysters were so meaty and juicy - went really nicely with the bbq sauce though I wish I had tried a more unique flavor they offered. The fish and shrimp tacos were both so fresh and super tasty. They were two pretty hefty tacos and you got plenty of seafood and slaw in every bite. It wasn't overly doused in sauce but very flavorful. We were looking for this eatery that was referred to us by family. We almost missed the sign but once we fought, it turned out delightful. It was a lovely day out and qee were ready for some fresh fish after walking Doran Beach. It was hard to decide between fish tacos or fish and chips but we decided on the fish and chips as you can see. They were a bit greasy but not unpleasantly so and the fish was a fresh as could be! We love this restaurant! We've been coming here for years and it's consistently very good! I go for the shrimp tacos...lightly (!) breaded, large shrimp meshed with a mix of guacamole, cabbage, and Pico. My partner has halibut fish and chips...we really don't try anything else, though I bet it's all excellent! Prices were very responsible, and the cashier was extremely warm and friendly. We sat inside because it was chilly, but there is a great view of the bay just out the window. The chowder here with bacon is better than anywhere in Bodega Bay. My gf loved the BBQ oysters I really think we struck gold with this place and didn't have the insane lines like the spots up ahead. The almond butter pastry is like crack too tasty and probably not the best for you but that's not all the Espresso Latte with Ghirardelli Chocolate and the Vanilla bean soft serve was decadent. I came here with my mom (celebrating her 88th birthday). She lives in Sacramento and really wanted to be near the ocean. We were treated warmly upon our arrival and took a spot outdoors to sit (thankfully there is a ramp as my mom uses a walker). We had a very nice view of the bay. My mom ordered the clam chowder which she loved and the artichoke fritters which we shared- they were addictive! I had the artichoke tacos and found them scrumptious The owner (Mindy) was so cheerful and friendly. We chatted with her a bit and learned she grew up in Bodega with her family who have quite a history in this sweet seaside town. As I have mentioned in another review, peeps up in norcal like to bbq/grill their oysters. This place does the same, or you can have them raw, of course. We also ordered shrimp and chips and some clam chowder. This was plenty of food for two people. The shrimp for chips was huge they were u12 or something. The chips/fries were very crispy, salty, and delicious. I was glad I ordered a beer to go with it. The oysters were a bit overpowered by the three different sauces (lemon/butter, bbq, sweet chili) that were served with them. The chowder was nothing like the famous ones in S.F. fisherman's warf or the best one in Monterey warf, but still good for housemade. I don't really get why they put carrots in theirs, either. Anyway, like most of the place of businesses up in Sonoma County, the service and the people are very friendly and like to help with any questions. When you order, you order at the window and pick it up on the other side at another window. I like this because the wife or your lunch partner can go and find an open seat on the deck while ordering. The drinks come out very fast, but you have to wait a little for the food as it's prepared fresh. So, love the food and people. Please, try! read more

One of my favorite spots in Bodega Bay for food. It's right off the main road going through Bodega bay so it's super easy to find. The fried shrimp and chips was phenomenal, the batter was really tasty - whatever they put in there is amazing! It's self serve style which is nice to be able to go at your own pace. The service was great though. The restaurant seating is outdoors and above a beautiful overlook of the bay. I would absolutely recommend stopping here. read more
