Wife was looking for a new spot while checking out some regional parks in the area, I am always skeptical when its in a newer looking shopping center. I was so wrong today, this place was old school in new window dressing. First, super friendly greeting as we walked in, and the Chef in the back complemented my shirt. I say Chef because what we ate was presented as a work of culinary art and tasted like a masterpiece. Looking at Menu did not prepare us for what we got, my wife went plain Jane with her dog, and it came out looking like "First in Class", never saw ketchup & mustard presented like this. We ordered sonoran dogs, chile cheese fries, and churros. There were a few orders before mine, so I did have to wait a little while for the food to come out. BTG's system is to order at the counter, you are given a number for your food order and you sit and wait for the food to be brought out. The loaded hatch green chile cheese fries didn't come out hot, but they were really good. The fries were almost steak cut size and were topped with avocado cream, cotija cheese , asadero cheese and red onion, and hatch chiles. The Sonoran dogs weren't wrapped in bacon and then fried/grilled, the beef hot dog topped the bacon strip and then covered in beans, cotija tomatoes, and avocado cream. The Sonoran dog was very satisfying - I don't know who supplies or makes their hot dogs, but it's one of the best hot dogs I've had yet. The Sonoran part was a treat in itself and my love for Sonoran dogs continues. My only wish, small wish, is that BTG would have a buttery, grilled, hot dog bun. Aside from that, the churros were pretty good too. I should have taken a bite when they came out fresh, but wanted to focus on the Sonoran dog and fries. Maybe I made the mistake of ordering Vampiro tacos. Maybe hotdogs are the way to go here. Basically paid $13 for two tacos. They were OK but what lowers the rating is the price. Also, I can appreciate that they make things from scratch so it takes a while to make the food. But what I don't like is when there is a line of people and that the cashier will take multiple phone calls ordering takeout and then stopping service for those in the restaurant. While we were waiting in line, he took three phone calls that were several minutes long and let us all stand there not able to order food. Because I was there during the late lunch timeframe, traffic was slow, so I got a chance to chat with the owner as I ordered the nachos. The owner was extremely kind and genuine. He took the time to ask me about my background and I asked him for his. Once I took my first bite, I was hooked. He purposefully chose thick cut tortilla chips to provide a better, sturdier way of eating nachos. I tried my first Sonoran Hot Dog and it was pretty damn good. Their motto is "Breaking Diets Since 2014" and they did just that. For those of us not in the know, this Sonoran hot dog took all the health benefits of a regular hot dog and elevated it. They added bacon, chorizo refried beans, and an avocado creamy sauce. Their chili cheese fries were pretty bomb as well. All ingredients tasted fresh but I could tell this would be even better eaten in the restaurant versus delivery. I was introduced to this wonderful little establishment during a yelp elite event. Myself along with the other participants were so impressed that I had to return the very next day with my family. All the workers were delightful and we really found the menu to be thoughtful, reasonably priced, with some really cool Latin inspired comfort offerings. One thing that I really liked about the place is how they bend over backwards to source local. I love the fact that they support the local community and get the ingredients as they can from Tucson based businesses. They also have a compact trailer for events and catering. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the hotdogs. We had a Sonoran and it was outstanding. But all of them background on the menu. We also found the steak tacos to be interesting - The shells were fried cheese. They also had some cool floats that I think I'll try next time such as the apple pie etc. I really have to get this place props for creativity.
