We especially love outdoor restaurants due to COVID, so thought it was safe to venture here for our first family of nine-people dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday. And they did a great job - checked vaccinations cards, temperatures, and addresses for contact tracing, super easy joining Yelp's waiting list (I think this is the first time I've tried this feature, and I LOVE the ease and convenience!!), and menu available through their QR code taking you to their website: https://theboilingcrab.com/menu/honolulu/. Although everything on the menu looks amazing, we finally settled on: $15 crab fries - wouldn't order it again, basically fries topped with a lemon aioli and crab meat $7 kids chicken tender and fries basket - kids loved it, I should've ordered the full sized dish $14 oysters and fries - came with 7 large oysters, so good and fried well $15 fried catfish and fries - 4 large catfish, fried well, my mom's favorite. I kind of liked it with the sauce $45 crawfish combo, which comes with a pound of crawfish, 1/2 pound of shrimp, mussels, and clams, 1 sausage, 2 (1/2 pieces of) corn, a few large potatoes, and 2 large rice. The combo was so good. We ordered it with the sauce on the side because we weren't sure how my mom would handle the spice (she couldn't handle the mild, so ended up eating from my sister's entrees, hah), but I thought this was brilliant. The sauce didn't get stuck into the shells, etc so I was sure that I could eat every drop of the yummy shabang sauce (mixture of the rajun cajun, garlic, lemon pepper) with everything. I loved dipping a little into the lime/salt pepper sauce that I created to offset the richness of the sauce. Plus, the kids could enjoy some of the "naked" sausage without being overwhelmed by the spices. The clams were a bit small, so a bit disappointing, though now I'll know what to expect. The crawfish also involved a lot of work for a little meat. The corn was a bit mushy, but still yummy especially with some sausage dipped in the sauce, and better than being undercooked or crunchy. My favorite seafood were probably the shrimp, though I do enjoy having an assortment of seafood. All the fries were crispy and delicious, even without the lemon pepper or cajun seasonings (sigh, kids). We loved the bibs, gloves (sorry for being environmentally unfriendly ...), and thankfully, they also brought us spoons upon request - we felt a little weird about shoveling rice into our mouths with our hands. I'm already planning on my next visit, especially since the receipt had a survey that gave a code for a complimentary appetizer! I have fond memories at the boiling crab, as it's such a unique dining experience. This time turned out a little different! Everything started out great; the hostess and servers were extremely friendly, and we ordered plenty of food. I got the shrimp and snow crab, with corn and potatoes - the food was absolutely delicious. That sauce is the best seafood sauce I could ask for - make sure you get the "whole shebang". Unfortunately, I had a bit of a health episode - I'm not entirely sure what happened, but my friends were not at all pleased with how the manager handled the situation. I used to live in Texas and used to eat pounds and pounds of crawfish. I've been craving those good mudbuggos for eons now and so we decided to walk on over to The Boiling Crab chain. Grabbed a couple of margs and it was a good time if I do say so myself. I recommend the li hing mui marg. They have a machine where you can put your name and number so they can notify you when your table is ready. Ordered same cajun fries, shrimp and crawfish in their signature mix. The crawfish was decently sized, as in not small. The meat did not taste too deteriorated/mushy from being frozen. I appreciate that the garlic was grinded and actual signature mix was just not made of hot oil/butter. Shrimp was also good and more filling but what can i say im a crawfish gorlie. Never been to Boiling Crab before but decided to go on Valentines which may not have been the best decision - pretty busy. We got the fresh oysters and the King Crab combo in mild Shebang sauce. I'm not a fan of oysters but these weren't too bad. There was definitely a slight fishy taste to them so they weren't picked right out of the bay fresh, but they weren't bad with lemon and all the fixings. Wait staff can provide tobasco if you need an extra spicy kick. I did enjoy the spicy marinara-like sauce that comes with the dish. I was really disappointed by the king crabs legs which were only 3 in number. One was really scrappy and had little meat. The shell was definitely hard to crack open with the meager utensils provided because the shell would bend and not crack open. The sauce was great! Mild has a pretty big kick to it...I'm so lame when it comes to spice now *crying. Loved the corn/sausage/potato sides. Mussels/clams/shrimp were good too but half the shrimp were pasty and overcooked?? Or maybe not fresh? Because we were still a little hungry, we opted for another half pound of shrimp (with no spice level lol). I think for the amount we spent, I may rather just buy king crab legs at Costco. Normally I'm not the type to leave reviews, but this is still bothering me. We came here last night for my birthday. We had a party of 15. From the get go people in my party said there was a couple workers that gave them attitude. We were told where to sit by 1 worker yet when we got upstairs another worker snobbed my sister and told her nobody is to sit until our waitress was there. Let me be clear, OUR waitress was AWESOME! The food was good... the mild was a bit more spicy than a lot of us realized. There were kids present as well. One of my friends had ordered a shrimp plate and the first one was great! Not spicy! So they wanted another one and when it came it was spicy. She had her daughter and husband also try it and both of them agreed that it was spicy! She asked for it to be redone, not spicy, but then the manager came out with the plate and told her that he made it the same way as the first time. She said that this one was spicy and that she had 2 other people try it. He then started to get aggressive and tell her "well what else do you want because I'm not going to remake it and it's not what you want!" She said she just wanted it not spicy! He then told her again "well tell me what else you want". That's when she got upset from the attitude and she said nvm. She doesn't want it anymore. And then she proceeded to cancel the rest of her dishes. I don't blame her, because wth!? Being a manager, you should be able to problem solve in a way where your customers don't feel like they're being attacked. I was omw to the bathroom and by the time I got back, they were gone! I found out later that he had called security on them! I don't understand why, but we're never going back there simply because of the service my party received. Our server yesterday, 26 Sat--forgot her name but she's a local girl with gray hair. Very rude and no customer service skills. She thought she was called "AUNTIE" by our friend (but our friend didn't call her that) and got offended quickly. Easy 5 stars. I have the opinion that every single person living in Oahu must come and eat at the boiling crab. It is a true food experience using your hands, getting messy, and enjoying flavorful well seasoned food. We got the lobster tail combo with a side of crab fries. We loved every bite. We loved the mussels especially. The lobster tail is quite good. I feel like most time some seafood is forgettable or just texture, but this had structure and flavor. Everything comes on the shell so it's fun to dig in and dissect. The corn is super super good and underrated. The potatoes are so well perfectly cooked. The sausage is so good and spicy. Fun to build the wall of rice because the building is tilted so we were instructed to build a wall to catch all the food. So fun! Crazy that we just used our hands for a mound of rice. Holly was terrific. She took care of us and made the night easy. Regularly checked in on us. Regularly filled our waters. Loved the peppermints at the end with the check. Such an EXPERIENCE. I went here a second time and again, it was great! We came here on a Wednesday night and at the time we came, it wasn't busy at all. We were seated right away on the second floor. We were only the other group when we were seated. Our waiter was really nice and very informative of the menu and ordering process as it was the first time for my friends. The waiter did have to come back a few times as my friends being new to the place, needed time looking over the menu. Once we ordered our food, our appetizers came out pretty quick. Shortly afterwards, out seafood combos also came out. Judging from all the food we ordered, I was surprised at how fast it all of them came out. Maybe it was due to it not being as busy. Once we got settled with our food, we all thoroughly enjoyed every thing. The fries we ordered were still crispy and our seafood combos came out steaming good! I've passed by The Boiling Crab hundreds of times, yet tonight was my first time eating here! My boyfriend and I are still in a food coma from everything we ate. While on our way, I put my party down on their Yelp Waitlist, which I highly recommend! I put our names down around 7:00 p.m. and for a Monday the wait was 60-90 minutes. It said our table would be ready for 8:30 p.m. We got to The Boiling Crab around 7:40 p.m. and I called them to notify we were there and if they could squeeze us in before our predicted time. The lady who answered my call was so sweet and accommodating! She said she'd put me down as "checked in" so we'd be seated earlier! Around 8:00 p.m. I got a text saying our table was ready. If you don't want to wait, I highly recommend going in to check in earlier or just coming before the dinner rush. In terms of food, there's so many options. My boyfriend ordered the Fried Softshell Crab Basket. It was his first time trying softshell crab and he was in heaven. I ordered Corn on the Cob. For the corn, you're given the option of plain, butter, or their different types of seasonings. I opted for mild Cajun which had a kick! I also ordered Gumbo with Rice. Initially, I was given the Cajun Chowder. I noticed my food didn't have rice in it and the waiter apologized stating I received the wrong item. He was quick to change it and provide me with my right order. The gumbo was delicious and extremely filling--loaded with a lot of veggies, shrimp, and sausage. My boyfriend also ordered their Crab Fries and holy moly that was amazing. We were given a huge basket of fries topped pile high with crab meat and some sort of sauce. It was delicious and could easily feed at least three or more. Overall, The Boiling Crab is the spot! They do a great job with social distancing. They check temperatures, the menu's on a QR code, tables are spread out, and they're limiting capacity. My first time at a crab boil place! I loved the atmosphere. They play the BEST music which makes the whole experience so much fun. Since it was my first time, I basically gave the reigns to our server and let him tell us what to get. We went with the king crab combo and the soft shell crab plate. Few things: I don't think this is my style. Having dirty hands was driving me crazy. We needed more cracking utensils and maybe better quality ones. The king crab leg shells weren't as hard as usual so it was very difficult to crack. This meant we spent a lot of time fighting the crab and lost lots of good meat. With that being said, we still really enjoyed our visit. The sausage was delicious, as was the shrimp and clams. Make sure to get the mix of all three sauces; it's really good! read more

I will never enter your premises again and make sure none of my friends and family do that as well. I enjoyed the food but at the end, their credit card machine was down. I gave my credit card and the server wanted to hold it thinking we are going to away without paying but then she asked me to hold onto my drivers license as well. Whoaaaaaah. I wasn't expecting this. A cavernous industrial sports bar feel, super informal. Seems like a good place to bring the children, office partiers, rowing club. Not a place to impress a date. I've been to seafood boil restaurants before, but at least those brought it out in a bucket and gave you a bowl to eat it in. Here you order seafood by the pound and it comes in sealed plastic bags they boil with a choice spice mixes. Pour it out on the table and eat with your teeth and claws like a walrus... they have plastic spoons and chopsticks but no forks, plates, bowls, nothing. Staff all ranged the restaurant without a dedicate waiter for your table, and ranged from untrained and clueless, to super friendly helpful managers and local boys who really wanted you to have a good time. I was ready to chalk it up to a mistake, not my kind of place, but then... The shrimp! The clams! Mussels! Buttery corn! Everything was just hands down delicious, especially the shrimp - simple butter and semi-raw garlic sauce for me but the shrimp was fresher and better textured than most sit down seafood restaurants and the boiling spice gave it an excellent taste. Plus, the prices are very reasonable for what it is, before tax and tip you'd probably spend more buying the same quantity of uncooked seafood at Whole Foods. I'm a convert, I'll be back. read more

The first place we went to where they eat crab like this!!! I'm not a huge fan of crab because I hate cracking it hahha but when my friends cracked it, most of it came out in one clean piece!! I did try some and it was delicious!!! I live the Cajun sauce and with rice omg. Pour that over your rice!! Lol the clams, mussels, and shrimps are really good too!!! We also got lobster which was pretty pricy I think around $30 per tail but it was soooo yummy!!! When it first arrived (via door dash) I looked at the little bag and worried it wouldn't be enough. The joke was on me because my husband and I were so stuffed by the end of the night and I still had enough to eat as leftovers today. We opted for the king crab combo, which came with mussels, potatoes, corn, sausage, clams, rice and shrimp. Everything tasted really good. I was trying to get the take out bags into plates for us without making too much of a mess on our dining room table when my husband reached into the bag and pulled out a disposable waxy tablecloth. How thoughtful of the company and it made everything soooo easy. We just picked up the entire table cloth filled with our discarded shells and tossed it in the garbage. A note on heat. Their medium is no joke. I read from other reviews that their most extreme option was deadly on the heat so I skipped that one and their description of the other options (mild and not spicy) didn't do it for me; so I opted for medium and omg the heat!!! I will add however that the food did sit out for a little while because I got the food about 30 minutes before we ate. The longer the food marinates in the sauce the spicier it is (captain obvious comment I realize). So the leftovers I had today, which still delicious, were much hotter than the previous day's meal. We also ordered crab fries which were delicious. We honestly would have ordered more items (we love leftovers) but for some reason The Boiling Crab restricts customers from spending over $100 on door dash. Came here 2 years ago on a whim. Been here almost every other week since then. Our favorite place to eat and the staff is always the absolute best. They treat us like family and go above and beyond every single time we visit. This is where we take family and friends in town for celebrations as well. Manager Cranston is the just nicest guy there is and that really extends to the other managers and entire staff who all fantastic. First time eating a seafood boil and it was sooo yummy. This was also my first time eating crawfish and it was pretty good! But I think I'd want to try the crab legs next time. When we entered we were seated quickly and our server was soo kind and efficient. We got our drinks, gloves, and they put a bib on for us haha. The lemon pepper fries were so addicting to eat! We got 2 crawfish combos both with all the sauces, one mild and one not spicy. I recommend the mild or more because it's not that spicy, but very flavorful! On a fun Friday evening, we all decided to meet at SALT without any real plan on where to eat. The ladies decided it was time for some seafood, so off we went to the Boiling Crab. We eat regularly at other similar style restaurants, but it was fun to give this one a try. The decor is metal with floors and lots of fishing tackle. It's a fun place with high ceilings, booths, and tables. We were seated on the second floor on the Diamond Head windows side, which gives some pretty views of the city. They have bibs for your clothing, and brown paper on the tables. We ordered a big combo with shrimp, mussels, corn, sausage, and other items; I had to get a side of fries and we all had rice. It's always fun to make a big mess on the table. The spice level and flavor was delicious. We thought the only real lacking thing here is the prices are a little higher for what you get. All the staff was friendly, one minor issue was handled quickly and without further problem. It was nice the manager came around and told us about the restaurant. Had to try Boiling Crab here to find out if there's a difference from the ones in the Bay Area! We came around 8:30 on a Sunday night. The restaurant had a few patrons. We were promptly seated. The hostess explained the bathrooms were outside across the restaurant and we needed a code to get in. There are actually sinks the restaurant for customers to wash their hands, which I thought was a nice touch. We ordered one pound of shrimp, mild, whole sha'bang, 3 corns, and 2 fried catfish baskets. The shrimp was good and so were the corn. The fried catfish was soooo good! It was just the servers' kindness that really lifted the experience here. They opened the door, tied the plastic cover around our neck, kept checking up on us if we needed anything... we walked out with a smile on our face after the meal.
