So, we ordered delivery for the first time. it took 1 hour from the time we placed an order to the time it arrived, even though the delivery address was only 10 min walk from the restaurant. Lionhead meatball order had just one - 1 !!! - piece over cooked lettuce. No bok choy as pictured on their website. That is $7 for 1 meatball. Soda never arrived. So, delivery was a flop. Portions very small. However food is slightly above average for FHills/Rego Park. Food - 3 Delivery - 1 Total average 2*. Might try to eat at the restaurant next time, as some of menu items sound interesting, but will never order from them again. read more

Horrible experience!!!!!! DO NOT GO TO THE RESTAURANT!!!!! If there is zero star, I'll give it because one star for this restaurant is too much. I have ordered food multiple times from this restaurant. You don't have so many options in forest hills if you want okay Chinese food. For the first several times, the food was fine and the delivery arrived in one and a half hours. However, after 3,4 orders, the delivery came later and later. Today I ordered food at 1:20pm and left the message "Please call me when you arrive." The food had not arrived by 3:15pm, so I called the restaurant. A female waitress or manager(I don't think that woman is the owner, because a restaurant owner will never treat their regular customer in such a horrible way.) picked my call and said the delivery man called me but nobody answered. BUT I checked my phone all the time and I didn't find anybody knock the door this afternoon. I asked for reasons and wanted to refund my money. She told me I could not cancel the order. If I still want the COLD food, they can deliver. The worst thing is that she asked my if I am a Chinese in a contemptuous way. NO apologies at all. After that, a Chinese man picked up the phone and gave me some "explanations". I have lived in NY for 5 years and never found out a restaurant treated their customers in such a disrespectful way, especially I am a regular customer. At the beginning, I wondered why The Bund only has 3 stars because their food is okay in forest hills. Now I totally understand and even one star for this restaurant is too much. You can have fairly good soup dumplings here. It's comparable to what you can find at Flushing. May not be as exotic as Flushing places, but it's not as chaotic either. I haven't tried their other menus, but a dining place makes one good dish usually makes other dish pretty well too. read more

I've been here twice. The first time I ordered chicken with mixed vegetables. The second time I ordered General Tso's chicken. I've ordered chicken with mixed vegetables at many of the Chinese restaurants I've eaten at in my life. I'd have to say I was underwhelmed with the variety of vegetables which were mixed in. The General Tso's chicken at my second trip here was better. Unfortunately, the thing that was most memorable about my visits here was the service. It's horrible. While I was handed the menu fairly quickly, it took nearly ten minutes for the waiter to return for my order. Once my order was placed on the table, it was as though the waiter couldn't have cared less about returning to ask how the meal was, to ask if I wanted more water (what restaurant doesn't have waiters who ask the latter?). In fact, it took at least ten minutes to get "a" waiter's attention again so that I could finally get the bill. Some Chinese restaurants give you an sliced orange as a nicety along with the check. No such thing here. Compared to my experience at the Szechuan restaurant a couple blocks down Queens Boulevard, the difference is stark. The waiters there couldn't be more interested in bringing water over regularly, and asking how the food is. They even SMILE while they're serving you. Hard to believe, I know. And they bring the check over without making you wait forever. I decided to give "The Bund" a second chance just in case the poor service and may I add, the lukewarm tea, was just them having a bad night. But based on my experience and some of their other reviews, that wasn't the case. read more

Was eager to try this place as soon as I heard it was opening up, so I finally headed in tonight. My boyfriend and I were greeted by friendly staff with hot tea (they also normally bring warm peanuts, but they initially forgot ours). We ordered rice cakes with beef, crabmeat soup dumplings, and sweet and sour pork. We're accustomed to getting our fix at Nan Xiang (dumpling Mecca), so that was our standard. The rice cakes were different than what we are used to getting at Nan Xiang, but they were really great. Same with the soup dumplings; different, but great. Much lighter than what we usually have. The sweet and sour pork was crispy and the sauce wasn't too sweet, which is something I was concerned about. Overall the meal rocked and wasn't at all greasy like you would expect with food like this. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will be coming back for sure. read more

Ok, so let me start this review by saying it is my hope a lot of what went wrong has to do with the novelty of this restaurant and will improve with time, but either way I think people planning to eat or order from here should know that there are MAJOR issues here and kinks to be worked out. My fiance and I live down the street and were really excited when we saw this place going up because the interior looked so cool and the menu was extensive; in addition we had never have Shanghainese food before. We decided to order pick up because we figured delivery would take too long as it's such a new restaurant. Regardless, the entire thing was a complete debacle. I ordered and when I did, the girl who answered the phone could not answer a single one of my questions about the food, which were simple (i.e. What kind of vegetables come in the mixed vegetable entree?). No big deal, she asked someone and I got my answers. She told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. When my fiance got to the restaurant 30 minutes later, he told me our food hadn't even been made yet. What the h****? My thoughts exactly. Apparently the delivery man took both our entrees out along with another customer's order. In addition, my fiance called me to say that our appetizer was not available. Mind you, no one felt the need to tell me this on the phone, but rather he had to wait at the restaurant while I looked through the menu again to choose a new one and also for our two entrees to be made. Evidently, according to the hostess, they "ran out" of the appetizer sometime after I ordered. Not sure if that's true, but she did take my number down originally and could have called me to ask for an alternative. As far as the food goes, most of it was decent. The seitan appetizer with mushroom and peanut had great flavor although mine was missing the peanuts (were they out of those too?) and was a bit oily for my liking, but that's personal preference perhaps. My fiance enjoyed the garlic cucumber and also thought his sesame chicken entree was very good. I ordered the mixed vegetable entree (admittedly a bland choice) and it was, in fact, pretty bland. Next time I'll try something more adventurous. All in all, this place has a lot to work on, and I caution people from ordering from here or dining in for the first few months until they get their act together. We went on a weekday night and there was only one friendly server with a good amount of tables, so I don't blame her for the slow service. But she was clearing tables instead of taking our order...which is #1 no no in service. There were also other staff members just walking around and not helping out/checking in on us and the other tables clearly trying to wave down the server. I was so excited when I saw that The Bund was opening... and so disappointed by my first meal there. The decor is nice, the waiters are nice, and that's where the positives end. I ordered drunken chicken (醉雞 - zui ji) and pork belly stew (紅燒肉 - hong shao rou) - two classic Shanghainese dishes, and the restaurant specializes in Shanghainese cuisine so I was hoping for the best. The drunken chicken was fine, the meat was tender enough, the wine flavor from the broth was a bit too strong. Also the meat could probably have been marinated longer to fully absorb the flavor. It's a simple dish, hard to mess up - and this one was passable. The pork belly was awful though. I don't know how you can make pork belly so tough and unpleasant to eat - the whole point is it is supposed to melt in your mouth! The fat on some of the pieces was literally inedible. The meat seemed low quality - but mainly it was just not cooked properly. The pork belly was larger than I'm used to, and the sauce really tasted off. I've had this dish at various restaurants both here and in China, and this was by far the worst version. I asked for a side of steamed white rice and that was terrible as well - completely dry and not cooked properly. I'm being extra critical because the expectations set up by reading the blurb on their website were high - they really talk up the culinary pedigree of the chefs and how they come from (their words) the best restaurant in Shanghai. Grand Opening visit to Bund. Ordered 4 entrees for takeout. General Tso chicken, Jumbo shrimp with Wasabi, Seafood casserole tofu & Shanghainese Udon sautéed noodles. The General Tso chicken was pretty good. Tender pieces of chicken and wasn't over cooked like other places usually do. Decent portion and sauce was good but could have been more tangy (more orange and lemon flavor) and a little more broccoli to be perfect. The Wasabi shrimp was delicious but the dish looked like it was missing a veggie like broccoli. This dish is very similar to the Grand Marnier shrimp or walnut shrimp found in Cantonese restaurants but a little wasabi was added to the mayo. The shrimps looked like medium size and should have been larger like prawns for the price. With only shrimps, the order seemed too small for $18.95. If the shrimps were larger plus broccoli, honey glazed walnut, and additional mayo/wasabi sauce were added, the dish could have been perfect. The seafood dish tasted ok but I was disappointed as there was only shrimp inside and no other seafood. Also, they put frozen veggies (carrots, corn, peas, and string beans) inside which is no way "authentic". The only fresh veggie was the scallions. Many people would have called to complain that only shrimp was inside when the menu said seafood. Could have used some additional ingredients like mushrooms, snow pea pods, Chinese veggies, and other seafood like squid, scallops and crabmeat. Even cooked lettuce would have been welcomed. The noodle dish was ok. I was also disappointed at the choice of veggies inside which were fresh carrots and cabbage. Cabbage is a very cheap veggie so I would have liked to see a Chinese veggie inside instead of these two. I picked up our fav Chatime drinks nearby in Rego Park to go with our dinner. Overall: food was ok but it's not worth raving about yet. Still have to try more dishes but these 4 dishes could still use some improvement. I would like to see more Chinese veggies in dishes like the other authentic Shanghainese restaurants use and use less cheap Americanized ones like cabbage, carrots, peas, corn and etc. A please NO Frozen!!!! The entire restaurant was filled with cigarette smoke and nobody cared. After leaving my clothes smelled from cigarettes and my eyes burned. If you are looking for a smoker friendly restaurant this is your place. As long as you responded that I'm a liar I'll share that I let you go easy. At the restaurant, the service is good and friendly. Their food is inconsistent regardless of eating in or delivery. The food has really gone down hill with bad dishes the last three times we ordered take out. The General Tao's Chicken had a thick, rubbery coating, the Sliced Beef w/ Cumin was too salty and fatty, and the Taiwanese Stir Fried Chicken w/ Basil was also too salty. My in-law is Shanghainese and a very picky eater. This is probably the only place he would approve in Forest Hills/Rego Park area. We've ordered takeout and dine in here numerous times. Food is pretty authentic, staffs are quite friendly. My only complaint would be the portions can be bigger, one order is never enough for my husband. I went on the official opening night and they still don't have the full menu available. It was pricey in my opinion. Ordered traditional dishes like the pork knuckle and eggplant casserole. Quality was ok. Tea was cold. The pork didn't come out for 20 minutes after the eggplant, need to work on timing. Hard to flag down a waiter even though they seem to be swarming around. I'd give them some time to work it out before I try them again. For now, I'd stick with Grand Sichuan. read more
