A friend of mine wanted to try this place because it opened up across from her apartment. The place was a nice and comfy with nice decor. We actually don't eat pork so we usually go for seafood when we go to restaurants with a pork heavy menu however we ended up learning that a lot of their seafood dumplings and seafood soups and seafood appetizers also had pork even though it wasn't mentioned in the descriptions on the menu. We ended up ordering hot and sour soup, crispy garlic wings, beef and noodle soup and seafood udon (one of the few seafood dishes without pork)-- the soups were excellent and the wings were tasty but the udon was tasteless. However, the service was great and the waitress had so much patience for our questions and offered us suggestions. Will I be back immediately ? Probably not. Do I suggest others to try ? Definitely, maybe this could be your new spot close to home when you need some tasty soup! I ordered pork soup dumplings to go through Grubhub. When I got home, I discovered there was a dead fruit fly that came out from a soup dumpling with the soup. The fruit fly look like it was streamed with the soup dumpling. I was extremely disappointed and I lost my appetite. The quality and freshness of their food does not compare to the best Shanghainese restaurants in Flushing. The boneless sweet and sour pork was heavily battered and saturated in thick sticky sauce. The cold gluten should be spongy and fluffy but instead they were dry, rough tasting very salty small cubes. The smoked fish was dry and not flavorful. The Bund is still in its soft opening so many items on the menu are still not available and there is currently no takeout. This restaurant does not have soup dumplings on their menu. Finally, a good Chinese restaurant in forest hills! Authentic and delicious! I Ordered delivery and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. The food here is comparable to places in flushing... and with delivery, I'm so impressed! The soup dumplings have a thicker dough - so they don't pop during delivery but the flavor is great and the dough is still chewy (in a good way). The scallion pancakes were also great!! Flaky and flavorful. AND!! They deliver Peking duck buns. Wow!! Never thought my favorite Chinese foods could be delivered to me while I lay on my couch haha! The rice was really terrible-- lukewarm, and portions were hard like leftover rice. The meatball was ok. The soup dumplings were not bad, but the skin was thick and the filing was a bit tough. Makes me wonder if it was a microwave boxed version. I was here for lunch during their second week open. I ordered beef stew noodle soup and wonton in chili oils. The beef is amazing but the noodles were really saggy, feel like they put the noodles in freezer for long time or they over cook it. The worst part is their wonton in chili oil which suppose to be a popular app in many Shanghai restaurants was a total failure which I only ate one piece and didn't touch it again. I also didn't touch the noodle after two bites. I was surprise that the wait staff don't even bother to ask me "how's the food?" Seeing so many left overs. So yeah, the wontons were falling apart and the skin were all broken apart "shouldn't be serve at all". Also I didn't even get to be fully seated yet and the waitress just keep asking me what I want to drink... Felt they were too pushy over something small. I ordered the crab soup dumplings and shanghainese noodles. The soup dumplings were really soupy and the meat mixture was on point. The flavor was pretty good too - not too salty with a light sweet crabby flavor essence. BUT the skin was way too thick. Also, their vinegar is really light that I think they watered it down and it doesn't come with a little spoon!!! I had to pour the vinegar on my dumpling causing it to spill everywhere. The noodles were odd in color. They were cooked in some red sauce. I have only ever seen it cooked in a brown sauce so it was a little off putting. The flavor was ok..maybe a little bland. I had to add a lot of hot sauce. All in all, not bad but not great either. It has potential so I will come back again to see if they refine their dishes. For reference, I eat at Kung Fu frequently, and occasionally at Joe's Shanghai and Nan Xiang. read more

It's been over a year since my review, and I would have responded sooner to your disrespectful and inane comments, but it is ONLY NOW that the nausea from the "meal" you served us has worn off and I am well enough to reply. To your claim that you speak English--or any language at all--comes as a shock, as when we complained about the putrid stench of your so-called food, you stood there, completely mute, saying nothing and doing nothing. As to your claim that you "graduated university", I am left to ponder just what your degree is in. It could not be in restaurant management, cause it if had you would have been trained to automatically have said something such as, "I am so sorry. Could I get you something else?", or "There is no charge, our apologies." With the "C" RATING you received from the NYC Health Department(!) coupled with my personal experience, your degree could not be from a reputable cooking academy. It certainly could not be a degree in public relations, as you vigorously and childishly jump on Yelp (and I suspect other social media) to insult everyone who leaves a comment you find uncomplimentary--and there a great deal of such comments. Again, had you taken hospitality and business courses you would have learned that the customer is always right. Instead of lashing out, you would have acquired the discipline and insight to look inward and see what it is you are doing wrong, and make the proper adjustments. But it is obvious that your personality and lack of talent will preclude you from improving. Should you wish to reply, keep in mind that I can keep responding indefinitely, and will share my responses on a myriad of social media. Good food and good service however, I ordered the Shrimp and lobster sauce, which was delicious until I found a short,black hair in the sauce(yuck!)! I brought this to the attention of my Idiot waiter who only smiled idiotically and said "So Solly" but offered no other compensation. I didn't make a big deal but should have asked for a manager. there are Americanized Chinese staples on the menu here (I guess you have to, to turn a profit in Forest Hills), and yes, they're all done well, but The Bund shines with more traditional fare. the fact that I don't have to schlep over to Flushing for soup dumplings is clutch. The Bund is legit good, not just "Forest Hills good" (as one person I know says). portion sizes are great for the price. if you dine in, the staff is always friendly and the somewhat upscale decor is a welcome break from the dreary look of most places in my neighborhood. they also know how to plate the food for masterful presentation, so all you Instagram foodie types will enjoy that. read more

This restaurant is one of my go-to places to eat when I am craving Chinese cuisine. I really enjoy the wide variety of dishes on their menu but one of my favorites is the 'Wasabi Shrimp'! The food tastes great and the ambiance is very nice as well. It is a very family friendly restaurant and the staff are very sweet. Sizzling squid was very flavorful (I paid $2 more to add string beans...well worth it.) The last time I reviewed The Bund I had ordered from them online and then found out that they were closed and I couldn't get my money back. They contacted me and apologized and I have been ordering from them again. The food WAS good. The service was inconsistent, with the wrong dishes regularly being delivered. Today, not only did I get chicken dumplings instead of vegetable dumplings, I cannot call them to get the proper dish delivered, the phone doesn't work. What kind of restaurant has a nonworking phone. In addition to the wrong dumpling order, the shrimp dish was a mishmosh, not the usual crafted dish. Something is wrong here, I don't know what, but I'm advising people to save their money. read more

This place catered a 35-person meal for us. We were happy with how well David responded to our requests. Honestly, going in we were a little worried that he would be hard to work with. He argues with his reviewers a fair amount on Yelp. But in person, he was very accommodating and responsive. It started when he helped us choose our dishes. We had some ideas based on the food we were used to eating, but we had never tried catering it for 35 before. He warned us away from xiao long bao, which don't survive delivery well, toward sturdier stuff like lions head meatballs. He also helped us gauge how much food to order, and offered us cheaper options to help stay within our budget. When it came time for service, he gave us some good suggestions, such as that we cut the meatballs in halves or quarters before service because many people wouldn't want a whole one. He also lent us a giant rice cooker to keep the soup warm, because we didn't have a kitchen on site. He charged us only a $20 deposit, to make sure he got his (much more than $20) rice cooker back. We asked for less salt in the winter melon soup, because when we had it in the store it made us instantly thirsty. He offered to add no salt except what was in the preserved pork, and asked if we wanted less salt in the other dishes as well. We said we thought they were okay, but we got comments afterward that they were a bit salty. We should have trusted his judgment. I just realized that I wrote a whole review without once mentioning the food. To be clear, the food was good. But what I valued more in this case was how easy and stress-free David made it to cater a giant family dinner out of a New York kitchen. read more

Food: 3 Stars - The Good - Steamed pork dumplings. Delicious! Thin skin that has just enough chew. Juicy meat. One order comes with 6 that are very decent sized. They definitely tastes fresh. Don't bother getting them (pan) fried. They don't get the bottoms crunchy enough to offset the extra grease you eat plus it's an extra dollar. Also, the skin on these dumplings seem to be the same as their soup dumplings. They're pretty good as well, but the steamed dumplings are much better in my opinion. The soup dumplings for sure will satisfy your cravings before you can make it Flushing or a better spot not close by. Another good item is the beef stew noodle soup, which really isn't beef stew. It's slices/chunks of beef. I'm not sure what you call it, but if you're Chinese or have ever been to a Chinese banquet before, it's the beef they serve on the huge platter of appetizers at the start of the meal (course 1). You know, that gigantor plate of that has jellyfish, roast pork, cuttlefish, and THIS beef that are round and sliced. So the soup noodles comes with that beef and some green veggies (usually the baby shanghai bok choy) in a nice brown broth. There's a lot more noodles than anything else, but the flavor is good and the noodles are al dente. My husband enjoys this one a lot. I'm just so so on it. - The Not So Good - Some things we've tried that weren't the greatest...and would probably never get again. 1. Salt and Pepper Pork Chops - These had a very nice coating and was deep fried pretty well, but it majorly lacked in flavor. There was neither salt nor pepper. It wasn't spicy at all even though the plate had chopped up spicy peppers all over. Maybe the chef forgot the seasoning or maybe that's just how they do it. In any case, a dipping sauce would have saved it as well. 2. Shanghainese Spring Roll - Good size, but barely any filling. Whatever I tasted in there I believe might just be some strands of cabbage mush. Maybe. 3. Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice - This was actually OK except for the bones. They didn't bother taking the salted fish meat off of the bone. It's hard to pick bones out when fried rice is meant to be eaten one spoonful at a time with all things mixed in together. Also, the salted fish were left in chunks so some bites had the perfect hint of flavor while others were just straight up salty overload. Maybe eat this one after a long, hard, sweaty gym session if you know how to perform the heimlich maneuver on yourself in case you choke. 4. The Bund Special Lion Head Meatball - All you taste is the salt and the very goopy dark brown sauce they smother it in doesn't make it appetizing at all. The meat was juicy and it would have been alright if it wasn't for the sauce. Perhaps a lighter one, both in color and taste, would have made this one better. Service: 0 Stars Don't expect a greeting when you walk in even if there are 2 or more workers up at the front. Sometimes they greet you, sometimes they don't even bother looking up to acknowledge you walked in. They don't honor their promotions unless you point it out to them. Their current menu says that $20+ purchase means a free soda or spring roll and some other promo for $50+. Unless you say something to them AND take a menu and point it out to them, they won't give it to you. They probably forgot they printed it's on there. Anyways, they will look and act clueless unless you physically point it out. If you get take out, make sure you watch the counter like a hawk. When orders come out and are placed on the counter, they don't check to see what's inside and ask around to see if it's yours. They are not proactive. Unless you are in their face, they will not care. So stand watch!!! Don't make the mistake I made. I ordered and paid. Sat down in their waiting area and waited....and waited....and waited, patiently. Finally, I realized 20min had passed and I still hadn't gotten my order. Turns out, it had been done and ready to go for over 10min. It was sitting on the counter. I had saw the bag when it came out of the kitchen, but didn't think it was mine because no one said anything to me. When I went to ask about my order, the gentleman whom I will call boss man (who had also taken my order), looked at me and said "did you order?" He then finally looked at the order that was on the counter and realized it was mine. Said sorry and have a goodnight. It was evident that he didn't give a rats as.s by his facial expression. A woman whom I'll call boss lady was much more apologetic and offered me a discount for next time. Yes, next time, not this time. Long story short, I finally got a discount for this time, but it was never about the money. It was about the principal. So because of their carelessness and lack of customer service, I'm giving them 1 star. read more

I had a great experience at the Yelp Elite event back in February and was looking forward to coming back and trying other things on their menu, but after this experience, I have to give The Bund 1 star. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to order some takeout for a group gathering. I ordered in English (maybe that was a mistake on my part) the dishes below: - Steamed pork dumplings (2 orders) - The Bund Special Pork with Pancake Wrap (3 orders) - Wonton soup (small) - Hot and sour soup (small) - Chicken with eggplant - Mapo tofu I paid with my credit card. Upon looking at the receipt, there was a random charge (about 3%) labeled "SVC". I assume that stands for service, which is not okay because 1) I'm not eating in, 2) it's illegal to charge a service fee just because they want to offset the fees on their end, and 3) they said nothing about a service charge when I gave them my credit card (and it's also not announced/advertised anywhere). I didn't fight it though... Sadly there were worse things to fight. When my order came, I was about to walk out the door but decided to look at the receipt to make sure it was my order. That's when I came across two orders of soup dumplings that I did not order. I told them immediately that I had ordered pork dumplings, not soup dumplings. The waitress that took my order at first argued that she heard me say soup, but I know what I said and stood my ground. I took the soup dumplings anyway (because making the pork dumplings would've taken more time) but asked that the $2 difference be refunded. After a brief discussion, they agreed to give me the cash. Thinking the worst was over, I took the food and walked to my friend's house. As I was unpacking the food at my friend's house, I realized they shortchanged us. Not only was there only one pint of rice to go with all of this food, but there was only ONE order of the special pork with pancake wrap. I immediately call them, let them know I was the one with the wrong dumpling order, and told them they were missing two orders. After confirming with the kitchen, they told me that apparently the chef thought there was only one order. (I guess he didn't see the big number 3 on the receipt.) They offered me the option to come back another day and the two orders were on them...but that's ridiculous because I paid for them already so it's not really "on them", I'm just getting my order very much delayed. I told them they need to deliver instead, and the waitress said they can but I'll have to give the delivery guy a tip. I'm sorry...you guys messed up my order twice, charged me a service fee for using my credit card, and now you want me to give a tip?? Frustrated, I put my friend on the phone, and she explained (in Chinese) that she orders from them a lot and she's not too far from the restaurant. Apparently the person she spoke to was male (maybe the delivery guy) and recognized her address, so he said no problem and we don't have to tip. It took them another 45-60 minutes or so to come with our buns, so by then, we'd lost our appetite and didn't enjoy it as much as we might have fresh. If it weren't for all of these mishaps, I would've given The Bund 3 stars for the food alone (good, not great).
