Went here for lunch and had the prime rib dip. One of the best I have ever had. The meat is smoked just slightly enough to impart a wonderful flavor. I loved their fries and the horseradish spread that came on the side. This place is destined for success. I can't wait to go back and have the prime rib! The staff was very attentive. The place was okay , for the prices I wouldn't recommend getting the expensive plates . We ended up visiting this location because a friend of ours was performing and we wanted to show support to her and the business . My wife wasn't to happy with the service and they also messed up our check . We started with there charcuterie board which seemed over priced for the portions . As for the dishes I did the prime rib, it seemed to be a favorite and I believe the plate was 42$ as for my wife she did the filet which was also a 45$ plate. I got the prime rib medium rare and my opinion was that it was still dry and hard to cut and chew also very fatty but the mash potatoes were delicious and my favorite part of the meal . The filet plate was also over cooked hard to chew and the sides of broccoli and mash potatoes were both good I just think they should work on there dishes . Due to all my experience I wouldn't recommend coming here for a fancy dinner there are better restaurants in the area that I would prefer and that are better quality . read more

Soo I, a black man, just went to this place on 4/9/2019 at 8:57 p.m. A worker was outside smoking a cigarette and the doors were locked. People were sitting inside eating and he sd they were closed. I stood there disappointed because I had just walked 6 blocks to try this steakhouse out. As I stood out front to try and find somewhere else to eat, 3 white people walked to the door and that same man let them in. Even tho I'm very upset and disappointed in the prejudices displayed by a minority himself, I want to thank you for letting me know at the door that I was not welcome because I will happily patronize another steakhouse. And FYI I'm against that wall. Those 3 ppl that u let in were more than likely for it but for it or not, it ain't being built for me and rather black white or red my money is green and if you aren't working for that then what are you doing here ? read more

I've been wanting to try this place out since I moved to Long Beach! The inside of the restaurant is simple, yet elegant. The inside kind of gave out an old classic vibe, which is completely my style! The selection of food and cocktails are great and the service was amazing! I chose a tofu dish with creole seasoning and roasted corn, peppers, avocado and some type of aioli. The dish also included some corn bread! It was very tasty and satisfying. The service was great!! The manager not so much. We had an incident with a dog in the restaurant slinging saliva on the guests and the Manager was VERY rude and condescending. My sister is allergic dogs and was appalled at the dog slinging saliva on her the Manager had an oh well mentally made no apologies sent no accommodations, etc. mind you there was no "dog friendly" signs and we were seated inside. It's one of our favorite places to go. Melia our waitress was too notch. She attended us every 20 minutes - always made sure our waters were full, our food was tasting great, and our wine glasses were never empty. She was top tier service. Cynthia the manager was also incredible. Very personable made sure we were happy and food and drinks were tasty. All around the best customer service , ambiance and all around amazing food and wine. Make sure to come on Thursday! It's half off wine bottles and glasses. This place is a 10/10. Not to mention the live music to top it off! Was excited to try this place but the food was a huge let down. Got a french onion soup $8(overpriced and small), side of brussels $6 (boiled, flavorless, small serving), and what we thought was an "add" of gorgonzola potatoes for $3. Menu lists "sides" and "adds". Asked bartender what adds were and bartender said it was 'just a side'. Pointed to the Gorgonzola potatoes that were under the adds section to order. Received the bill and the potatoes were $8. An "add" apparently is just to make your side a bigger portion which wasnt explained. The potatoes were sad and disappointing and I was even more disappointed that it was $8 instead of $3. Interior looks nice and has potential. Hopefully they will give their food the attention & detail that their prices are demanding. read more

I have never been anywhere so bad that I had to write a yelp review while I was eating lol first of all, we came here on a Wednesday night to try the prime rib and it is not available today :) our wine glasses came dirty and my mashed potatoes taste like they were frozen maybe 30 seconds before they came to the table. My husband had to send back the steak because it was brutalized into a hamburger. I have never asked for salt at a restaurant. I have never been this disappointed that I am baffled. I am sure that I will never come back and I don't think that you should ever come here unless you might be being punished.. Came here for Father's Day with a reservation, we were seated immediately. The drinks and appetizer came out pretty quickly. We got the spinach and artichoke dip, YUMMY! I got the Filet Mignon Petite with a side of baked potato and broccoli. It was dressed with an interesting sauce, which I assume is their house gravy of some sort. It was good though The only reason they didn't get a 5 star review is because the kitchen was slow bringing out our entrees. It took about an hour or so. The staff was very apologetic about it. Had a business lunch there this afternoon. I've walked passed this place for a few months, but it wasn't very busy, so I thought perhaps this was an indication that the food or service must not be very good. However, I wanted to go somewhere new, so I thought I'd give it a try this time. Once again, it was busy. In fact, my co-worker and I were the only ones there. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts app to start, which were very good. For the entrée, I had the Mahi BLT sandwich, which was really nicely done. My co-worker had the Fish and Chips, which looked good, but I think he felt it was overly breaded- Otherwise, he seemed to enjoy it. Our waitress was very attentive, polite and accommodating. She made this a very nice experience and I'll look forward to coming back to try some of their other menu items. Beyond being new, I can't imagine why this place isn't busier. The prices are reasonable, the ambiance is nice, it's clean and the service was excellent. So, let's keep this place open! We need to keep the good restaurants around on PINE! This would be a good place for a date spot as well as a business luncheon or dinner. I'll definitely return. read more

This spot is a hipstery gem in the heart of Long Beach. Loved the overall vibe, lots of windows offering natural light for the greenery walls, but my favorite was the way the floor was done, tiles split into wood laminate from the center of the room. My husband and I came here for a little date night on Saturday around 6pm. We were quickly sat comfortably at a booth right in the center of the room. Our waiter was attentive and gave great suggestions on food and drinks. To start, we had the brussel sprouts, which were perfectly roasted and the tahini schmear a delish way to dress them. I don't recall the name of my drink, but it was tequila based, perhaps mezcal as it tasted smoky, but it wasn't listed in the ingredients. In any case, it was pretty good and not too sweet, which I prefer. Hubs had the Cloud 9, which was very well-done and on the sweeter side. For our main dishes, he had the prime rib sandwich and I the McCarthy's Umami Burger. We both decided his was the winner of the evening meal. The meat had great flavor on its own, but dipped in the au jus and creamy horseradish made the perfect bite. We definitely plan on coming back soon, perhaps for brunch--just peeped the menu and it has several items that look worth a try. read more

We were hopeful as the bar looked great and we needed a new spot to go to in the area. I ordered a filet mignon medium well. However, the steak came out dry and for some reason was still pink/reddish inside. I was very confused myself. Drinks were A+ and very enjoyable! I would come back for some more cocktails! read more

We really were hoping for a bit higher rating however overall the experience was about 3 stars. Reservations were easy - maybe a bit too easy - for a Friday but hey, maybe we got lucky We were promptly greeted by the hostess and we took a booth on the inside. The menu was fun to read - quite a bit of history including a provision in the initial saloon license that family could specifically prohibit other family members from going to the saloon if put in writing! The menu was quite promising and we ordered from the custom cocktail menu and they were properly prepared and good. When we finally ordered our meal, we settled on the baked Brie, a second course of onion soup and the final course of steak and prime rib. Sounded yummy! The first problem was the timing. When we ordered we specify first the appetizer, then the soup, then the meal. Unfortunately the soup and appetizer arrived together. Not necessarily a huge problem but we did want spacing. We started with the soup - decent to very good depending on opinion - and then the Brie. The Brie was good and served with grilled onions, baked garlic, roast tomatoes and a drizzle of olive oil. We were mid-course and enjoying it when main course arrived. So we pushed the appetizer to the side to enjoy the rib eye and the prime rib. Unfortunately even though the steak was quick to arrive (too quick) it was overdone and dry. The prime rib was decent and prepared medium rare as requested. We decided to ask the server to send over the manager and he promptly arrived. We gave the feedback about timing primarily as well as the condition of the rib eye. We stressed that we just wanted to provide honest feedback and he seemed to appreciate it. He offered to comp a bottle of wine which we declined to just one glass which was quickly brought. In fact, we were planning on wine with the meal but everything came so quickly it didn't make sense for much more drinking. We were offered - and accepted - deserts and added a coffee. Molten lava cake was about average and tiramisu was above-average. So our big concern for the Carvery is the kitchen. The manager says he will be working on their timing and hopefully things will be smoothed out. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we may try again and will make sure that we specify spacing on courses. Update: This review was finished just before bill was presented. They comp'd desert and cocktails - not an objective of ours, we just want them to succeed. We went high on tip to compensate the nice gesture. read more

They have Fernet on tap. I've never seen it on tap and immediately ordered a Fernet and Coke to bring back some memories. Moments later, Eva the manager came by and was very hospitable to me and my girlfriend and we nerded out on Fernet. My wife and I tried The Carvery last night, got there early so it was empty, but better for us....lavished attention! We met manager Eva, very sweet and dedicated! They will be posting pics and menu shots shortly and next Friday is their grand opening. I don't take pics of every meal, so take my word...presentation and food was excellent. Our server Eric was prompt and friendly, observant but not lurking----great job! We shared the tossed and chopped wedge, big, fresh, chilled and tasty. My wife had the blackened mahi sandwich, slightly over cooked but still pretty good. I had the Prime Rib Dip with Au Gratin, silly good! Fresh soft roll, plenty of meat, well balanced meat/cheese and tasty Jus---good with a couple Guinness! Open, airy, clean and cool decor, this place is a winner! read more

We tasted so many things; starting with the spinach dip appetizer then the corn avocado appetizer. I also had the French Onion soup which was delicious. Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday (our first time) specifically for the prime rib and it was delicious. I loved the ambiance of the place & it was pretty empty since we went on a Monday night. The sauce was a little too salty for our taste but besides that everything was great. My husband and another couple visited this restaurant as we were waiting for our flights (got off a cruise ship and ventured over to Shannon's Carvery for some beverages at). We got there just as they opened on a Friday and we LOVED the bartender and Manager! They took our suitcases and found a place to store them (thank you!). the venue is beautiful w/ windows all over and drinks were perfectly crafted! The Bartender followed the manager from restaurant to restaurant - talk about loyalty and great working relationships! Both the Bartender and Manager were so fun and easy to chat with! They gave us a free tasting of this type of alcohol none of us had heard of before and were both well versed in wine selections for us girls and the cocktail selections for our guys. A superb steak and excellent service. I needed a good steak and the folks at 555 Steakhouse couldn't fit me in. My first time at The Carvey and I was very impressed. The flavor of my ribeye could not have been better and the wait staff was outstanding. The bartender made an excellent Old Fashioned. A truly great experience at a quarter less than 555.
