TO THE RESTAURANT MANAGER AND OWNER: you're a Michelin Guide Green Star recommended restaurant. Everything about your restaurant should be practically perfect, much less from a "clean food" perspective. The drinking water served to your customers is not - it is far from it. If your water tastes like the dirty old pipes it comes out of, then you need to fix it somehow, someway. Much of Atlanta has good drinking water - it's a definite possibility. Your guests deserve better drinking water than what we were served tonight. And then, you don't even have bottled still-water, only sparkling. Ugh.... Not good! So we had no water to drink tonight, because none of the guests at my table wanted to drink the table water due to the way it tasted. With that said, service was excellent, although the kitchen was slow. My potato leek soup was not great, watery and not an appealing consistency. Pork chop is always excellent, and everything else was very good. But the water issue needs to be corrected, like, now. read more

The Chastain has a cafe that opens at 7am and a more formal dining space that opens at 11am. If you would like to dine in at the more formal dining space, definitely make a reservation. Note that you will have to put down a credit card to reserve. I've grabbed pastries to go at their cafe and had their brunch service as well. Both were great experiences. All of The Chastain's food are farm-to-table. You can view their garden in the back. During brunch, I was told by the waiter that their cheeseburger is one of their most popular dishes. I was surprised to hear this and ordered it. While it is a very good portion, it was a bit salty for my taste. I did enjoy their pancakes, biscuits, and salad however. I've been here only for the bakery and their brunch but both times have been phenomenal. You can really tell everything is home made and full of fresh ingredients. Their coffee is brash coffee but they make lattes very well! Their pastries are incredible, make sure you stop on a Saturday when they offer the almond croissant. For brunch we ordered the French onion soup, croque madam, and avocado toast. Everything was perfect! And the service inside is like dining in a five star restaurant. The staff was very attentive. Have always really enjoyed The Chastain but the last two meals have not been up to par because of food quality, service and bar service. We were seated in a great spot in the dining room that wasn't too loud immediately on our arrival. We asked a few questions about changes in the menu and ordered three drinks along with water service. We were also told that we would need to order our entire evening at one time and they would course it appropriately. However, this was not the case. We each proceeded to order appetizers but they all came out separately and before our drinks. We asked about our drinks and they told us they were on their way. For each of the appetizers, we had to ask for serving pieces and silverware because they were not provided with the initial set up. The appetizers were very good except our favorite tater tots and caviar. The dish was totally disjointed and not plated or prepared to its normal magical taste. Once we finished our appetizers, the drinks still had not come, and we were asked if we wanted to go ahead and order the remainder of the meal. We said we'd like to wait until the drinks come, which took another 5 minutes. We then ordered a salad course for the table and entrées. Once again, when the salads were ordered, they were not served with serving pieces and the plates that were given to us were piping hot coming from the dishwasher. We explained that a salad with cheese on it would not go well with hot plates. The servers looked very frustrated and shrugged away going to get new plates. Once again when they returned, they still did not bring serving pieces. Additionally, we asked for cracked pepper and they seemed once again very put out that they would have to return to the table. I'm not sure if the disjointed nature of the service was because there were multiple servers working our table of 6 or that our party was bigger than five persons and they knew their tip would be included. Of note the restaurant was not full. A similar situation occurred with problem with salad service once before where the plate we were served was still wet coming from the dishwasher, and the salad was oozing beyond the greens because of the wet plate. The entrées were the highlight of the meal and finally came with serving pieces. Finally we ordered dessert and were told the cheese cake amazing and it certainly was not. It was not traditional cheesecake and was very tart and strong flavored. We barely ate 25% of it and when we remarked about its flavor nothing was said. This restaurant has definitely fallen from its better days and exciting opening. There is a certain lack of detail to the dishes, and the service has really dropped. However, the prices have continued to increase. I'm not sure if the Michelin mention has guaranteed them new clientele, but this patterned will certainly not lead to continued growth. We have gone to The Chastain a few times and always had good food and service. Recently, we went for lunch and our dining room experience was great. Our waiter Gianni was so helpful and provided stellar service. He has been our best waiter to date. Unfortunately, this particular experience was tainted by the manager, Matt, upon my arrival. Matt must have thought we needed to sit with another party (who had a separate reservation, at a different time, and under a separate name.) We explained while we knew the party, we did not need or want to sit together. Matt was adamant and was incredibly rude. Luckily, the smart host understood and squashed the situation. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese biscuit, coffee, and 2 pastries. It was superrr pricey, came out to $39. Thankfully everything was tasty and filling. Had to save the pastries for later after eating the biscuit cause they are pretty large. The Danish I had was really good, however, the orange slice that was put on top was extremely bitter. It almost ruined the whole thing. But luckily I was able to remove it and the top layer of the cream to enjoy the rest of the pastry. Overall the experience was more of a 3.5 than 4. Overall, food was really good! I came for brunch with my family and ordered the Cascara to start. I wasn't the biggest fan and probably wouldn't get this again. It tastes like heavily watered down coffee. For starters, we ordered a selection of pastries and breads including the mocha concha, cheddar chive biscuit, and the dayspring farms biscuit. All of these were excellent! My favorite was probably the cheddar chive biscuit, but the plain biscuit was quite good too! The concha was super flavorful, but perhaps would have been better as a dessert. As for mains, the broccoli caesar was good though a bit salty with the rather heavy dressing. The salmon was cooked well. I loved the mac and cheese and the french onion soup! These were both phenomenal! The chicken schnitzel was solid-- nothing to write home about but the spaetzle was nice and al dente. Service wasn't great... they originally forgot about our drink orders. I think our waitress was new though. Ambiance was nice- lots of natural light. Valet parking was also nice, but the art choice inside was very strange- a little unsettling. Service and description of food and little touches that make a fine dining experience were all there. Atmosphere was the usual big room, crowded and loud. The marketing of the food was much better (they described every item in detail) than the actual food. Everything was plated and served beautifully but was bland and or just weird from soup to dessert. The special gluten free rolls was doughy and tasted undercooked, the carrot soup was boring, creamy but no taste of ginger or other spices, the pork chop was dry and lacked flavor of grilled onions and apples. The chef has a very "delicate" hand on spices and seasoning. The cheesecake dessert was unusual but not in a good way. Maybe they are trying too hard to be different in their recipes but feels pretentious. My martini was excellent! And while I don't question the quality of the ingredients or local produce/meat it was EXPENSIVE. No bottle of wine and one cocktail/ glass of wine each and only one appetizer ($18 soup!) and 3 desserts was over $360 including tax/gratuity. For that price I want the service AND the food to be outstanding. But I am going to try it again at lunch for the $30 burger! read more

My husband and I were in Atlanta for the long weekend. We went to several local spots and this was my favorite. We sat in the covered outdoor space and it was chilly (last night was in the 40s). Korey is a fantastic server - provided good recommendations on his favorites, was attentive and funny. We started with the sourdough and the chili - wish the latter had a bit more kick but still very tasty. Vonnie's Sprouts had a great mix of flavors and textures with the sprouts, sunflower seeds, dill aioli, ricotta and Parmesan cheese. We ordered two pastas -- Korey recommended the mushroom campanelle and it was the best thing we had. So flavorful and the toasted garlic bread pieces added some nice texture. The Cacio e Pepe pasta confused me--Cacio e Pepe is a pasta with cheese and pepper. This has tomato sauce, brisket and lamb. I believe the reason it's called Cacio e Pepe is because the noodles themselves are made with pepper but it's confusing--it should be called Short Rib Paprikash. The dish itself is so so. We split apple bourbon profiteroles for dessert which is a good combo. Korey also brought my husband some warm chocolate chip cookies and vanilla bean gelato (which is on the menu) for his birthday-- very good and appreciated! This place gets busy. I would definitely recommend to reserve ahead of time. I came on a Friday 7 minutes after lunch opening and it was already packed. We had to wait an hour and 30 minutes to be seated, but luckily where the restaurant is located there's places to walk to and kill time. ***Highly, highly, highly recommend to reserve ahead of time. If you see so many spots open, still. Reserve. There's seating both outside and also inside. The outdoor seating was all heated so that was nice and I believe it's a draw at Chastain as it's sort of a wooden structure and you're pretty much outside, one with nature. So what did I order after getting a seat and waiting forever? I got the Chicken Schnitzel and shared a side of Mac and cheese. Both were delicious. Service of course was stellar and I expected nothing less. Overall, I could see Chastain getting Michelin recognition and why that was bestowed upon them and I hope the best for them for future awards. Lovely outdoor/indoor dining space with modern-rustic decor. Very inviting restaurant! Paula was our server...she was a real peach. Greeted us with a pleasant smile, gave background on the restaurant, chef, their farm accolades and menu of course. She made excellent recommendations. My nephew enjoyed the pesto chicken sandwich on focaccia. We shared the pancake simply to try it & weren't disappointed. Make reservations, no matter what time of day you plan on going. We went on a Friday for lunch and planned to get there around opening. When we checked the reservations right before we left, there was plenty of availability. When we arrived about 15-20 min after opening, the wait time was 1.5 hrs. Good thing that the restaurant is right by Chastain park. We ordered some coffee from their cafe and walked around while we waited for our table. I ordered the sablefish and the tomato/red pepper soup. The red pepper was the dominant flavor of the soup. The sablefish was well balanced with the veggies and sauce. The place was packed and buzzing on a Wednesday due to a concert at Chastain, but you would never know it by the service level and speed. The service sitting at the bar was great -- the entire bar staff was communicative and friendly. I really wanted to try a pasta but needed more protein due to my diet, so they asked for chef's approval to combine a couple dishes, and I'm so happy they did. I got the Chicken entree, but instead of the sides subbed the Basil and Burrata Agnolotti. The pasta was so flavorful and light, and the chicken was perfectly prepared (insert *moist* cringe here). These luddites would not let me park in the valet lot because I did not have a physical key. So I had to park in the street a mile away and walk. Don't drive here with a car with a phone key. I went here for my birthday recently and enjoyed myself! There is valet parking but since it's right next to Chastain Park, we just parallel parked and walked. The food was great, especially the roasted mushroom campanelle! My boyfriend also enjoyed the TC Cheeseburger. The pot pie was very filling. I'm not sure what kind of bread for it they used but I thought it looked burnt but really, the bread was brown (I don't think it was wheat). The inside of the restaurant can be a little bit dark during the evening and if it's packed, you may have a hard time hearing your conversation.
