Yesterday I ordered lunch for wife and myself. Ordered over the phone (ai). There was a mistake made as the cheese was different. Left a bad review as I was not happy with the different cheese sauce on cheesesteaks. I received a call from the district manager asking about my experience. I was craving a Philly sandwich and this seemed to be the only spot around San Ramon. While it did satisfy my philly cheesesteak craving, it thought it was an okay philly. I'm use to the bread being an italian hoagie while this one felt more like a hot dog bun, very soft and malleable. I have been coming here since they opened. Today was particularly bad. I ordered a sandwich with onions and hot and sweet peppers. And steak fries. When my order was ready there were no sautéed onions and no peppers. I asked them to remake the sandwich. I also asked for fresh fries. When my sandwich was ready they told me they didn't do new fries because they thought they were still hot enough. They no longer put on a slice of cheese. Just a sprinkle. Franchise restaurant that was founded back in 1982. The founders goal was to bring real-deal, Philly-style sandwiches to the Bay Area. The concept to order is simple. Pick a sandwich, pick a protein, and then pick a size. They have premium cheese steaks which are just a twist on their classic philly cheese steak. I tried their king of philly and their philly cheese fries. The fries were not too good. Steak fries are just a healthier version of French fries and are cooked with less oil. Their fries would have been better if they were regular deep-fried. This review is a little delayed but better late than never! The manager whom I believe is Tim (forgive me if thats wrong) but its the guy thats always there. Let me tell you - when you walk in this gent treats you like you're one his close friends, EVERY SINGLE TIME, just like your buddy next door type of feel. We dont go super often but that just speaks to this guys character, hes super nice every time you go in, to everyone. This is a manager that gets it. Food is always great, and hot and theyll even chop up a sandwich if you are ordering for smaller kids. The APP is clunky and he always quickly applies any rewards I have since the app wont apply them to mobile orders. The dining area is always clean and tidy as well as the bathroom which you might not think in a "fast food" joint. 5 stars all day, every time we visit here. read more

I love a good cheesesteak and this chain has been good in the past, but the last couple of times I've gotten a sandwich there, it's been dry, over cooked, and not tender. There's not enough peppers put on the sandwich, not enough of anything really, and the ends of the bread are about 2 inches with nothing but bread. it's a shame, because a good cheesesteak is heaven. read more

Have never been the biggest fan of Philly cheesesteaks and this place is no exception. My family and I have been coming here for years because they are all big cheesesteak fans. I generally get a chicken cheesesteak with everything on it and extra peppers and my parents get the king of philly cheesesteak (big enough for 2). While the food is never bad, I have never finished my sandwich and thought wow this was an exceptional meal! This last time we ordered food for pickup, we all noticed that the sandwich was a lot more hefty than ever before. They really loaded up on the meat in this sandwich, was appreciated because it made for a more hearty meal but also the other topping quantities didn't match the increased meat portion which set things off balance. There are not many other options to choose from in regards to this food category so you may find yourself coming here due to lack of competition rather than really wanting to eat here. I will probably continue coming here given my family has cravings for a philly cheese steak every so often but don't think this will surpass a 3 star in my book. read more

Disappointed!!!! I have been coming to The Cheesesteak Shops for over 20 years and this has been by far the worst experience. I tried calling in my order but no one picked up the phone. I then, went in to place my order. After waiting patiently for almost an hour at the shop. I got my order and it was not warm, but COLD. There were several people waiting for their order quietly . A customer who ordered on door dash asked for their order and the staff addressed her orders first because they didn't want to "deal with complainers". It's not Philly, but it feels pretty close when you step in the doors. A line 6 long, and 20 mins later after ordering...voila! I got the Large Motown Philly with Mushrooms [$9.99, 4.0 stars] -- actually, good! Nice amount of freshly grilled mush, peppers, onions, cheese, and well-done grilled steak. Could have been more seasoned, so I added my own salt and created a wich just short of a masterpiece! Other sizes avail: Small [$6.39] and King [$14.49]. I'll be back. read more

I use to Love these Cheese Steak Sandwich! But the last two orders we tried was horrible. Twice the cheese was placed on the bread and not mix in the beef. I don't know if this cost cutting or they just have new staff but something is missing. Jersey Mikes makes a better cheese steak but it cost more but worth it. read more

Inside, the restaurant has a clean appearance with use of black, white, stainless steel, and yellow color palette. The walls are adorned with historical plaques of cheese steak locations including some vintage photos. Our meal was a split experience. The Classic Philly Cheese Steak was cooked perfectly, while the Zesty Veggie Sandwich was soggy. Caution: the peppers are HOT (which I enjoyed).
