The big plus: This happens in your own home! My connection with Chefs for Seniors has felt uniquely collaborative from the very beginning. It began with owner Mike Filosa's rapid response to my initial inquiry on behalf of my mom. He answered my questions thoroughly and completely, helping me understand the next steps. These folks are pros, and it shows at every stage of the process. I was delighted with the way that all of my feedback was implemented. Chef Barbara and owner Mike have made our experience both comfortable AND fun for Mom. The meals are beautifully prepared and delicious. The follow-up to ensure we are pleased with our service reassures us that they are in it for the long haul. Mike and his team understand that they have two customers: The ultimate consumers of their services and people like me who are advocating for them. His ability to provide the right communications at the right times to both of us means a lot--all while making the process simple and easy to deal with. (Please note: I connected with CFS from my home in Seattle on behalf of my Livermore-based mother.)

They sent us directions to pick up in the back, but we got a little lost. Leonard, the owner, came out to find us and introduced himself and shared a little about the food and their projects. He was such a nice guy with big plans for the food! Into the food itself - The tuna mayo onigiri was STUFFED. There was so much flavor in every bite. I was a little cranky you have to order in twos but afterwards that first bite, I'm glad I had a whole one to myself! We got the Portuguese sausage with musubi and chili oil. The chili oil had a lot of heat and flavor to it! I don't recommend the chili oil if you're picturing a light spice because it packs a punch. But if you like the fire, highly recommend! My partners favorite was the classic teriyaki spam with unagi and avocado. I really enjoyed the portion sizing of each item - created a really perfect bite. The unagi had an extra smokiness to it. I think it's probably prepared in house/not supermarket unagi - the taste was quite different from that! The chicken lumpia was crispy and perfectly seasoned - not too salty and savory. The Thai chili sauce wasn't too spicy at all either. We'd definitely be back to try more!

The quality honestly reminds me of the kind of musubi you'd get in Hawaii, similar to places like Iyasume. Ever since trying musubi in Hawaii years ago, I've been hooked, and Musubi Libre is one of the very few places here that really gives me that same feeling/experience I've had. While the musubi are absolutely amazing, and it is their namesake, the Mrs. And I really like the onigiri! It's surprisingly hard to find truly good onigiri here in the US that lives up to the quality of the ones you'd get in Japan. Leonard, the owner clearly puts a ton of effort into each. He's definitely perfected his craft. The Mrs. and I have ordered from here casually many times before on our days off. We've tried the tuna, mentaiko, and ume. Mentaiko is my personal fave. The tuna is excellent too, and the ume has a classic salty-tangy flavor that's unique and refreshing. It's a great option for vegetarians as well. Recently, we ordered from Leonard to have onigiri catered for our daughter's birthday party. We got those 3 flavors. Originally, we just wanted something unique for the adults alongside the chicken nuggets and pizza we got for the kids. Man, we are so glad we did. The onigiri was a massive hit! People absolutely loved it, including guests who weren't necessarily huge into Japanese food or culture. They disappeared FAST! Like so fast I didn't get to eat one myself! This place is seriously a hidden gem in the East Bay. Definitely stop by, try the musubi and onigiri, and say hi to Leonard, who is genuinely one of the nicest people/owners you'll meet.

When I came back to them a couple years later, the price point had gone up & I was priced out.) The portion sizes were large. I think it was like $12-13/meal. 99% of the dishes were delicious. I was REALLY pleasantly surprised at the flavor & taste. I expected gentrified dishes. It was good! I was also specifically looking for meal delivery that generated less waste. Planter table delivered that. I got cool enough with my driver (and tipped well!) that he brought me a little thank you plant. I loved that I had the same driver each time. It was just a really pleasant experience overall. Nothing bad to say.

I am not vegan but this hits the spot and is the best meal service I have found. The food is still amazing and I'm happy to see the meal options have expanded, there's seasonal produce options and Acme bread, and now they post calorie information. They have family style option to get a bigger portion for those who have a family, or for me, to bring to a pot luck. They also have individual desserts and full size pies/cakes. Seriously - they have everything. They no longer offer wine for those who care. There are some additional pick up options, too, but I stick with Jack London Square on Wednesdays from 11:30-2:00. Pro tip: get the cookie dough!!!!! And the chili. And the breakfast burritos. And the bake at home pizza ........ $20 credit Referral code: QWC3D2MJ

Izalco Catering AKA "GOURMET PUPUSAS"…read more Actually came to the San Ramon Farmer's Market to grab a plate lunch @ Ofa's, then saw a relatively decent sized line for Izalco Catering "Gourmet Pupusas". As is the trend with Salvadorean, this was by no means fast food... The pupusa was literally made entirely from scratch. From forming the masa, to stuffing, to sizzling on the griddle. Pretty cool watching the process, but due to the long line & baking in the hot sun, that got old pretty quick... Employees working the booth (girl cooking the pupusa's) & a really friendly guy manning the register & prepping the plates (mixing the cabbage/jalapeno's, hot-sauce, etc...). As far as taste; initially I was in the mood for some Ofa's Island BBQ, but despite the quick change-up, it turned out to be a decent move. Pupusa's were obviously fresh, piping hot & the spicy/pickly cabbage mixture was a nice refreshing topping as well. Opted for the Traditional as well as the Southwestern, though the Traditional was by far my personal favorite... Restaurante El Salvador in Concord (strictly the pupusa's) could probably give em a run for their money & the pupusa's @ El Carbonero in Sunnyvale are quite a bit larger/fluffier (though both are a decent commute away). Having a Salvadoran option however in my back-yard on weekends is definitely a nice alternative to grab a quick bite... Definitely worth another visit next time I'm @ the Market, though I'll need to visit Ofa's as well to grab some of their BBQ chicken as they're literally a booth away...

Pupusas made to order and done right!!!…read more The reason for the long lines at this booth is because they're delicious! I have tried all of them (Traditional, Mediterranean, Italian, Southwestern) and they're all very good. My favorite is the Traditional Pupusas (Beans, Cheese, and Pork). The owner, Jose, is so friendly and really down to earth. He's one of those people that seem to be friends with everyone... They make the pupusas from scratch and it comes out piping HOT with some of that wonderful pickled cabbage (I can't get enough of that cabbage salad!). Enjoy!!
