Yikes. The biscuits are small and hard. The bagels are supermarket-like. The bacon and eggs in the breakfast sandwich were cooked so hard you'd think the restaurant were exacting vengeance on them. The french toast is thin and flaccid. The syrup is corn, not maple. The iced tea is Lipton or equivalent. The sausage gravy is excessively salty with a bit of an odd flavor. With so many great breakfast establishments in Providence, I can't possibly imagine how or why this place is still open other than being across the street from a school. Students, and the rest of us, deserve better. Try Providence Bagel, Dave's Coffee, Kitchen, The Grange, Bolt Coffee, Cafe la France, cooking at home, Starbucks...anything really. read more

Atmosphere: 2 - The place is dingy and dark, regardless of the large amount of windows. When you walk in, the first thing you see is the open kitchen on the other side of a short wall. The kitchen looked busy in terms of organization or materials and items, not people. Service: 3 - No one greeted us when we walked in, but someone yelled from across the restaurant to find our own table. Our waitress was nice and our food came out quickly. Food: 4 - Classic and hearty breakfast food. I got the MSS (mushroom, Swiss, spinach omelette) and it was delicious. But, if I had to choose one meal to eat for the remainder of my days (which may not be an many as I'd like, not being as healthy as said wife) the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and two scrambled eggs contraption wins, hands-down. Prices are decent, with refills included for both hot AND iced coffee (it ticks me off when iced coffee refills cost more). Coffee was adequate - nothing to write home about, but not tasteless either. The omelet choices were interesting, but all had cheese. I asked for cheese-free and the waitress volunteered to sub in spinach, and then added the roasted red peppers I requested with no up-charge. Great customer service! The omelet was not at all greasy (yay) and was chockfull of veggies. So far, all good. Also ordered the potato cakes, which sounded fabulous - but disappointed tbh: no crispy crust, and definitely no seasoning, at all, whatsoever. The past 2 x ive been here my order has been wrong . I ask for turkey bacon and then was told there is only turkey melt . I then said I'll just take bacon then no big deal . They come out with slices of Turkey wit's bacon on top ‍ Very disorganized and not i paid 14.00 for that after being charged for the extra turkey I didn't want. The time before that no home fries are ere given and I had to go back in there . I told one of the staff and they seem to completely forget about me so I just walked out . Troubling I went in for breakfast on the recommendation from Yelp. The place gets very good reviews and honestly I am not really sure why? The reason I say this is, because I got a great bar seat to watch these guys prepare food. Let me start by saying, the breakfast that I ordered wasn't good. Dried out omelette with canned hash. The other thing I see is the place preparing home fries from a plastic bag, pre cut. So, I see great reviews about this place and then I get a crappy omelette with the 2 biggest faux pas in breakfast foods, canned hash and fake home fries. It makes me lose faith in Yelpers. To top it off, breakfast took 45 minutes and they had 2 servers taking about 40 customers at a time which is clearly understaffed. I got 1 cup of coffee and sat with an empty cup until I finally ate. Wow, I feel horrible writing this about their breakfast. After all of the other yelpers out there giving such rave reviews. Well, let me go stick my neck out on the line. To the first point, all of the great reviews. How could one go wrong. This was in, my next new diner WOW moment. After three weeks away from RI, I was going to be back in Breakfast Nirvana. Yeah, not so much. So again, in case you don't know, I am a diner hound. So I have been to a few. So I will say that I do have legs to stand on when it comes to these reviews. But, like all things, taste is taste. To the food Bob. Okay, so the diner itself is cool on the inside. Great corner spot on the block. The wait staff was nice and very easy going. The food portions were large and looked great. I know what is not to like. Well, I had their made in-house Corned Beef Hash. It was very good. Right up there. Nothing to complain about. The coffee came in big mugs, enough to make you smile. The Rye toast was perfect. I know that sounds petty, but it is not actually. So far so good. Now, on to the rest of the story. I will make this quick, like a band-aid being ripped off. Pancakes were large but hard as brick on one side and nice and fluffy on the other. The biscuits and gravy were, well horrible. The biscuits tasted like they were made from frozen and the gravy tasted like, well like, well I am not sure. It was just nasty. The coffee was good. I always like to end on a positive. So if you are rating your diner on portion size, this will work for you. It is not nearly as cheap as it probably used to be. In fact, it is probably more expensive then Modern or Spoonems. So not a good basis. So for breakfast, I would move on. I must disclose that I did not eat lunch there. I have been told that their lunch is really good. So I do not want to stop you from going for that. But if you are looking for breakfast flavor should not be your top priority. This is a good place to get a hearty breakfast for cheap, and with quick and friendly service. For $10 I got a massive plate of food with a bottomless coffee... good coffee too! I love sitting at diner counters, so of course that's where I sat when I came here. It has its ups and downs. You get to watch your food getting cooked as you wildly salivate... but you also get to see what they reheat on the grill or throw in the micro. Fortunately for me, most of my meal was fresh! My eggs were perfectly cooked; nice and runny for dipping my rye toast, and they even looked perfectly pretty on the plate. They actually provide each table with egg cooking info menu so that you can order your eggs exactly the way you like them. I'm a foodie and actually had no idea there were so many ways to cook eggs! Their bacon here is amazing. It's thick cut and they cook it on the grill. It's not overly crispy or overly chewy. It's just right. The only disappointing part of my meal were the grits. They were super bland, and butter and salt could hardly redeem them. Grits are my favorite so I was really sad. I will definitely return. I saw the Yelp! Deal that was available for this place and decided to stop by for brunch on a Saturday morning and boy did they knock my socks off! Everything. Everything was perfect. From the waitress to the iced coffee to the cleanliness and appeal of the environment inside the diner. I decided to try the Hashita which is basically a corned beef hash fajita. It was absolutely amazing. It combined my favorite elements of breakfast and Mexican food. The flavored were exquisite and I definitely recommend for a first time visit. My fiancé had an egg and cheese bagel that she loved and we both split a "better than sex" pancake which was coconut with chocolate and something else. It was awesome. Eve the iced coffee was perfect. Better than you'd expect for "diner iced coffee". What I love about this place is that the lunch looks as good, if not better, than the breakfast and I can't wait to come back and try it. I am not a lover of the chain restaurants and in all possible times, I would try the local setup restaurants and this is the one gem at providence. We had a fire alarm early Saturday morning in our hotel and we are asked to vacate the building. Luckily we found this place near by to try breakfast. Me n my husband entered in our pajamas itself and found this is tucked place along the street. Staff are very friendly and we got the order placed in 10 mins to our table. we ordered Greek omlette along with the vegetarian one . I would love to give 5 stars but found my goat cheese is sour. Had a very bad experience at this place. Was waiting outside the restaurant in the rain with another group for 30 minutes. Hostess/waitress at the front said no one could wait inside, "Due to it being a fire hazard" and all... Fastforward and there are a few groups of the Caucasian persuasion who not only are standing indoors but get seated! They literally just walked in and were seated. When we finally were called in, the hostess said we could come in now and sit at the bar or wait, so we said we'll come in. There were two empty and clean boothes right next to us so I politely asked another waitress to be seated in the booth, which she agreed to. Why did the hostess try to seat us at the bar and tell us there were no boothes available? Then she came by and wanted to say something but goes, "oh yeah, that's okay". I really don't know what her problem was. They were busy and I understand that but the waitress we had also knew nothing about the menu when asked what the potatoe pancakes are and what meat is in the gravy. She said, "It's all on this card here right in front of you!" And then fumbled with it to find where the info she wanted to show me was. Like no shit lady, I'm asking you to confirm, just ask the cook and get back to me. While there was no hair in our food, we did see reviews of people with hair in their food. Wonder why? Cause none of the line cooks wear hair nets. Big surprise there! The only reason im giving this place 2 stars is cause the food wasn't horrible. The hashita was good. The food seems like it could be really good, but on my trip the restaurant was crowded and chaotic and, when the food finally arrived, it was obviously the product of a rushed kitchen: fried eggs with cold yolks and uncooked whites, clammy potatoes devoid of crisp, and broken, grainy sausage gravy. The grits were nice, and even the gravy had a good flavor despite being broken. As a newbie to Rhode Island, I'm definitely pleased to find a place that I can comfortably become a regular at. I've been here a few times now and the food and service never fail. I searched high and low one morning for a diner and was almost about to give up until I stumbled upon this gem. A great place for breakfast. Be prepared to take home food if you are not a big eater. Best value item is the 2-3-4 combo. 2 eggs, 3 bacon or sausage links and 4 pancakes (and they can be blueberries). The plate is so big, it spans my two hands with fingers spread out. We were there for two days in a row. Both times we got lucky. Found parking in front of the store. Parking is limited but did not stop people from coming in. It got crowded very quickly by 9am. The home made hash browns were good. The potato pancakes were good too but both can be greasy if you don't like that. They are very generous with the food so unless you pay attention to what you are ordering you also get two sets of toast with your hash browns, potato pancakes, eggs and meat :-) Will return. read more
