This was the first and only restaurant we tried on our Fairbanks trip, and it was pretty solid for the most part. Service was nice and friendly, and there was plenty of parking outside. We tried the following items: - Onion rings: good start but not as crispy as I expected. Also a bit on the expensive side - Stromboli: the menu said this was what they were known for, and I agree that it was good. We stopped here on our first day in town and it was a happy accidental find! My husband is gluten free (celiac) so was a bit more challenged on options but ultimately had one of the best Denver omelettes ever. My family stopped by for lunch today here at at noon and had a yummy meal! We only waited about 6 minutes to get seated even though it was pretty busy. Only thing to definitely note is there is a long ticket time, it took us 45 minutes for us to receive food after placing our order. Stopped in with some coworkers for brunch. The front dining area was full, we were seated in a small back room. One person had Eggs Benedict, another had an omelet and I had the corned beef and hash. The food came out in a pretty good time considering how busy they were and it was served hot. Everyone it seemed enjoyed their meal. Only loss of stars is due to the server. It's possible she may have been new because she didn't remember what anyone had while passing out dishes, never checked on us except when waved down, and did not keep well enough track of the time we had been there as we had to ask for the check. Came here because I heard it started off as a cookie shop and I wanted to try the cookies. They are now a full service restaurant and even Guy Fieri stopped by here for Triple D. The menu is a typical American style menu with an all day breakfast menu: pastas, salads, steaks, and sandwiches. Our family got the kids burger, Cobb salad, Stuffed Nolan, and Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. With the exception of the Stuffed Nolan, everything tasted fine. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything outstanding. The Stuffed Nolan was the standout dish and tasted really good - cream cheese stuffed cinnamon roll and grilled. A really unique and delicious idea, I would come back for this. I also bought a bunch of cookies and a cinnamon roll and muffin. The cinnamon roll is ginormous! Unfortunately all the baked goods I bought were not great. The cinnamon roll and muffin were both so dry and hard at time of purchase, you need to heat them up a bit so it softens up and tastes better. The cookies were ok, but I've definitely had better. I also purchased a couple of truffles and they were pretty good, but hard pass on the baked goods. Stop by if you really want to try the Stuffed Nolan or if you're on a mission to visit every Triple D restaurant. Otherwise, you won't be missing out on anything if you skip it. read more

I understand they're short staffed but at least close off half the restaurant if you know y'all can't handle it. I hate to complain because I'm a breakfast girl but honestly this place didn't impress me. I had the country's breakfast which was average, potatoes had a certain texture that made it seem not fresh?? Bacon was good and hefty portion. My brother had the country fried steak and he said he'd order something different next time. My other brother got the Nolan's breakfast and he said it was good and creamy. My other other brother had the pancakes with bacon & eggs and he said it was average, nothing wow. My dad got the burger and said it was dry. My mom got the French toast and she enjoyed it! Alaska isn't really the place for eating light, based on our recent experiences. On our last day, we had a late lunch at The Cookie Jar due to how enticing the pictures of their food are. The taxi ride here didn't take long, nor did it take long to get seated, even though the place looked very busy. But, after getting seated and getting served coffee, it took another hour to receive our food. Our taxi driver did give us fair warning that service here takes a while. Luckily we had ample time that day. $18.99 Country Fried Steak - prime rib, lightly breaded and fried, covered with sausage gravy, with 2 large eggs: I do like country fried steak but I've never had it made with prime rib before. This was massive. Of course I finished it, but I couldn't finish the enormous biscuit that came with it. This is the thickest cut of country fried steak I have ever had, topped with thick gravy. Within the fried crunchy breading was some juicy meat. I tried some of the biscuit, but it is on the dense side. $15.99 Corned Beef Hash - corned beef cooked and diced, with hashbrown potatoes, grilled onions, 2 eggs: Another massive meaty dish with juicy, fatty brisket, which was a bit on the salty side, as corned beef hash tends to be, and crisp shredded potatoes. $14.99 Stuffed Nolan's - cream cheese stuffed cinnamon roll, grilled and topped with berry compote and whipped cream, with bacon: I would never even think to batter and fry a cinnamon roll, let alone stuff it with cream cheese, and top it with berry compote and whipped cream, AND serve it with a side of bacon. This was such a delicious dessert. It sounds heart stopping and if you can handle that, it is worth the calories. This was probably our best, and most memorable meal in Fairbanks. Why is the Cookie Jar so stingy with their sides for breakfast? Maybe stingy isn't the word to use as it could be lazy. For a $20 omelet you only get one slice of toast and a strip of hash browns that 3/8" thick, if that, 2" x 6". You're making plenty off the meal so how about two slices of store bought bread and at least double the hash brown portion? What I would really prefer, and would expect from this type of restaurant, is actually real homefries that are cooked on a flattop griddle. Calling potato chunks that you deep fry is not homefries, that's French fries. If real homefries were an option, I'd pay extra for them and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would pay extra. Little changes would bring a great return to your business. Ever think about offering customers at Kendall Toyota a small discount coupon to draw them in while they're waiting for their car to be serviced? You're loosing out on a lot of business. The service is good and the food is fine, it's just the portions of the sides. read more

Every time I have been in Fairbanks, I have made sure to stop at The Cookie Jar. It started long before I ever moved to Alaska. My brother-in-law went to school at UAF and he raved about the place. Just like he did the first time, I usually get a box of cookies to take home for friends and family. FOOD and DESSERT - Have you found yourself wondering where to get the perfect poached eggs? Look no further! - - My favorite type of egg is of the poached variety, so I always ask if it's an option. If it isn't on the menu, I always worry a little. Here I asked, and they said, "sure!" And it was perfect! Are you looking for somewhere that has amazing cookies? - - There is a solid variety, so naturally one must get a couple of each. And then it becomes necessary to try them ALL...and the end result is eating way to many of them. Which is only a problem because then you are out, and need to go get some more. There isn't anything particularly special or different about the breakfast, except that everything just tastes really good. Solid ingredients, homemade toast (I'm pretty sure), and great portions. NOTABLES - Each time I have visited, there were some problems getting all the meal at the same time. This was before and during COVID. For instance, they might deliver my eggs, bread, and bacon, but I would have to wait several more minutes for the potatoes. Or they would get three of the four meals out, and one person would have to wait an extra two or three minutes. Also, prepare to wait. There will likely be a line. SERVICE - The servers have always been nice, but they seem overworked and stressed. Please don't hold the small errors against them (like food arriving on a staggered scale). I got the kids country breakfast (was more than enough for me) and my husband got the meat lovers omelet! The food was phenomenal and came out super fast! We were looking for a spot close to the world ice art championships and this seemed to fit the bill. (We even walked off lunch after at the fairgrounds!) The restaurant was completely full when we arrived but we only had a wait a couple of minutes for a table. Service was friendly! We ordered the Corned Beef Hash, made with homemade corned beef, with a biscuit on the side, the prime rib chicken fried steak (because it seemed to be the thing to order) and the stuffed cinnamon roll french toast. The taxi driver warned us that they take their time at this place and so they did. But all that waiting was a good thing to work up an appetite for the enormous portions. Corned beef hash: really delicious, the potatoes were crispy and the beef was salty but had a really good fat to meat ratio that made the brisket tender and delicious. The biscuit was good to cut through the salt when paired with whipped butter and honey but wasn't as fluffy as I'd like. Chicken Fried Steak: this was enormous! The prime rib was very juicy and meaty, but chicken fried steak seemed a bit of a waste to coat a deliciously large cut of meat in crumbs for frying. It was good, but the gravy on top was a bit lumpy. Cinnamon Roll French Toast: probably the best thing our table ordered, the cinnamon roll was cut in half, cooked like french toast, stuffed with cream cheese and topped with raspberry preserves with whipped cream on the side. It was as good as it sounds (or maybe better?), and went well with the other substantially meaty items we ordered. This was one of our favorite meals in Fairbanks! If you're in town, definitely go try it out but make sure you aren't on a tight schedule. read more

Very busy diner that is popular with locals as well. Nice ambience with homely decorations and a signed pic of guy fieri, food reviewer who featured the place in 2009 I think. Food is good to taste and large portions. The sticky buns are good including the stuffed buns. One great appreciation, as in most places in Fairbanks with labor shortage, but any issues with order was quickly and politely resolved by staff and management. Kudos! read more

The place itself is pretty cute, staff was good, but the food, just wasn't as great as the hype. I ordered the Stuffed Nolan, it was good, but nothing to write home about. It also wasn't very stuffed. I ended up only eating half of it. I asked our server what the quiche of the day was, she said crab and swiss. But she failed to mention that it was KRAB and not Crab, so I was extremely disappointed when it came out.(when I brought it up to her, she just said "yeah it's Krab not crab" no apologies) On top of that I asked her if the hash browns or the home fries were crispier, she said home fries. Well they weren't crispy at all. Ended up not eating much of those either. Let's just say they're more on par with maybe a Dennys or an IHOP, and I'd rather go to one of those. ‍ read more

We waited 30 minutes before the waitress took our order, an hour to get our food, and 30 minutes to eat and get our bill. That's with us rushing at the end. Everyone with the exception of one table waited just as long. Overall, it took way longer than expected. Don't eat here if you're planning a day trip to Castner glacier during winter (daylight is precious). Or, if you're starving and get hangry easily. Do eat here if you have time to kill. read more
