First impressions, I should've known. Most all the other places I walked past were very busy. This place wasn't, so I thought I'd give it a try. The fact that it's nearer the more commercialized area of the River Walk should have been my second clue, but hey it's Texas BBQ so who could go wrong....... Me! I took the waiters recommendation of 2nd* Cut Brisket Plate w/ Mac N' Cheese and Potato Salad. I'll start with the Brisket and just get it out of the way. 18-20 hrs smoked? Seriously? It was lacking smoke favor, it was tough, it had no smoke ring(probably because it had been trimmed off), and just didn't even look appetizing, oh and it was tough. If this is what County Line considers "Texas Brisket" not only did they miss the mark, but they should be ashamed. I feel sorry for anyone who comes here and anticipates getting real Texas Brisket. Mac n' Cheese was about what I'd expect from your other low end sit down restaurants like say Cracker Barrel, Sabarro, or KFC. Potato Salad was plated nicely but I'd suspect it came from a 5 gallon bucket from Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. The only redeeming quality and shining part of my visit was the Arnold Palmer. Perfect ratio of Tea to Lemonade. If you need a place to sit and enjoy people watching along the River Walk and just an Arnold Palmer, then this is the place. But if you want a good meal, I'd keep on walking. Where's Gordon Ramsey or John Tapper when you need a place rescued from itself! read more

We were promptly served by a very friendly host and server, ADAM. He was very friendly, very attentive, and accommodating. He explained our order well. He made sure our drinks were full at all times and asked if we wanted to-go cups at the end if our meal. My St. Louis ribs were perfectly off the bone ribs full of flavor. My BF's brisket needed to be cooked a hint more as well as the deep fried okra This is a great place to come as a large group and-or to celebrate an event. There is more than ample clean nice space. This restaurant is a great San Antonio RiverWalk venue. It's suited with two great setting where you can enjoy their BBQ selections or other tasty foods & drinks on their menu. In this review I will talk about 2 visits there, one in April, eating outside and the other later in the year eating inside. In April I went with a friend and ate outside on the Riverwalk. It was a pleasant meal where I ate Brisket and a few other tasty things. Fried pickles were yummy. The chicken was delicious, juicy and not a heavy smoke flavor. The beans were more like pinto beans not baked beans. They were very flavorful. The Cole slaw was cut in larger pieces and had a lite tasty dressing. The homemade sweet bread, as suggested by the waiter was indeed a worthy upgrade in bread. I wanted to like this but this was not smoked barbecue. At its best it is a liquid smoke version of meat and I couldn't eat it. It only got a two star because the cheese bites were good. Ok so first off. Don't even waste your time trying to put your name on the wait list with resy, they don't honor it anyways. Which is absolutely ridiculous. Take the option away if you aren't going to use it. The "famous bread" is mediocre, nothing to rave about. Sadly they were out of a few things on the menu. I would however recommend the pepper jack bites for an appetizer! We shared the plate for two and the meat is done pretty well. Nice smoke on most of it. The ribs were the most disappointing meat on the plate, but they weren't bad by any means. We had the potato salad and beans as a side, the potato salad was very good (especially if you like it with more dill and pickles in it) but the beans were absolutely lacking flavor... seemed just watered down. The place is clean. The food prices are in line with every other restaurant on the walk. Our server had to tables with parties of six. I knew our server was going to as fast as she could be. The menu has a side variety of both bbq and non bbq plates. I chose the two 5 oz tenderloins which were so tender you almost could do without a knife! Service was slow even though it was packed. Staff kinda messed up and order but made it up to us on the end. About 3.5 stars is more accurate. Very unique decor including a "white face" (that's Montana slang for a Hereford breed steer) spouting Texas longhorns (kinda like a big jackalope!), old road sights, a gorgeous fireplace, sections of tin ceilings and other memorabilia from the old Texas days. Since we already did steak, we had to do barbecue. Many Yelpers suggested that we travel to get good barbecue. Although I am a foodie, my husband isn't and refused to drive 30 mins just to eat barbecue. Therefore, we ended at The County Line which is walking distance from the hotel since it is on the Riverwalk. The hostess saw us but completely ignored us and continued cleaning. We almost walked away cause my husband is very impatient. She finally came to us and showed us to a table inside. He was not satisfied with the choice and wanted a booth by the window. I already felt that this wasn't going to be a happy place to eat. The waitress is really good though. I showed her a check in from Yelp cause we would get a "surprise" appetizer. It was just sausages that were cut up. It was good but not the best I've had. I ordered two meat platter - chicken & pork ribs with baked beans and fried okra. Hubby got some brisket and my BIL got what the waitress recommended, some kind of fajita. The pork ribs was delicious. It was fall off the bone. I did have to pay extra for it. The chicken, not so much. It was very bland and dry. They forgot to bring me baked beans. The fried okra is good. When my baked beans came out, it did not taste good and I couldn't continue the rest. My husband was fine with his food. My BIL didn't like his food. Coming up to this place there was nobody at the front to greet us, but once we got greeted we were able to request to sit out by the Riverwalk. We ordered a little bit of everything, and unfortunately we were not impressed with the food. Also our server did not come and check on us but one time, and my fiancé had to get up to get her since my drink was not made correctly. We liked the homemade bread, but the actual barbecue was not up to Texas barbecue. It was all very dry, and the beans had no taste or flavor. And to say that the french fries were fairly OK out of everything is not anything to rave about. Once you're ready to leave we had to get up to go get the waitress that was sitting with somebody talking, and I had to Get her attention so that we could pay to leave. Visited San Antonio from Austin (where my sister lives) to explore the river walk as I have heard great things about it. Being from California, I was excited to try some authentic Texas BBQ. Overall, the experience was just OK. I was very disappointed and I guess I had too many expectations. Atmosphere: The place is nice and they were taking all precautions necessary due to COVID. Lots of funny graffiti on the booths. Food: -Appetizer-ordered the house made bread and this was probably the best thing there. Very warm and the honey butter was amazing! -Main- my girlfriend and I ordered the shared platter for two. The best thing on the plate was a sausages. The ribs were ok and the chicken was horrendous. It has a bad odor to it. The worst part is that the meat came out luke warm. I understand it's COVID times but there was something off about the quality of the meat and it's temp. The sides were again, just ok. Nothing that really stood out. I hate to say this and I hope I don't upset any Texans reading this, but I have had better barbecue in San Diego and I know that there is definitely a place out here that will blow my mind, but this isn't it chief. This must be a tourist trap. We finished off dinner by having peach cobbler which was very basic and tbh it's hard to mess that up. Good but again nothing amazing. Service: waiter was nice and offer great service. Checked in and refilled our drinks multiple times. Price: came out to 70 bucks for 2 people which is over priced IMO based on the quality of food we got. Overall, I would say the food and experience are just ok. If I was to come back, I would only get the bread and sausage. I'm sure I'm just a clueless tourist who doesn't know where the great BBQ places are in Texas.
