For dinner, I had St. Louis Pork Ribs and 2nd Cut Brisket from the BBQ platter. The St. Louis Pork Ribs were tender and well seasoned. The 2nd Cut Brisket was listed as a limited item on the menu, so I had high expectations and ordered it. The meat was really tender, but the portion was small. The regular Brisket is more like Lean Brisket, so I'll have to try Lean Brisket next time. Looking for some Texas bbq in San Antonio near my hotel, Yelp recommended this place. I was a little hesitant at first and actually circled the Riverwalk before finally coming here. Being a single diner looks lonely but at least I wasn't ignored by staff so that's always a plus. Lighting was a little dark and woody. And I was seated at a booth by the bar so I got to hear the bartender and servers banter. I ordered the 2 meat platter: brisket and pork ribs (upcharge for ribs) and a margarita because it's San Antonio. The drink was good. Finished it too quickly and wanted another! The food was good. Tasty and meat fell off the bone. So why not 5 stars? I later found out I should have eaten bbq in Austin. San Antonio is better for Tex-Mex food. Food is cold, the meat in the ribs needs to be knifed down to get it off the bones, it was so hard. No flavor, very salty and dry. Sides are terrible, again no flavor. Service is very poor and slow, very slow and there were like 8 customers in the place at the time. Basically they should get out of the famous Riverwalk. This restaurant does not belong to a reputable, historic, gorgeous location. Maybe just shutdown altogether. County Line is my first experience with Texas BBQ but I was disappointed by the meat quality. I've had better BBQ in the Seattle area. The location is highly convenient since it's on the Riverwalk but there might be better BBQ not in the most touristy area of San Antonio. Food I got a 3 meat BBQ platter with sausage, 2nd cut brisket, and pork ribs (ribs are extra $5.99 substitution). The ribs substitution was not worth it. You get 3 ribs that are fairly dry and also burnt on the edges. The brisket was not fatty and was lean even though ordered the marbled cut. The sausages were actually my favorite meat and had a nice spicy kick to it. The barbecue sauces were pretty good as well. Atmosphere There is plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting. The indoor was a little cooler than the outside but it wasn't very clean in my opinion. Everything had a slight stick to it and there were flies hanging around my food. The noise level was not that loud though. Very casual and nice Texas decor. Pricing Prices were average for BBQ from my experience but this was my first time in Texas and getting BBQ here. Alright BBQ if you're from somewhere that doesn't have BBQ I guess. The wait staff was friendly and the place was clean. I wish the BBQ was better. Ordered wet, not lean, brisket and got beef jerky. They brought out some more brisket but you could tell they trimmed the dry pieces off before they brought it out. Whenever I show up to a new barbecue joint, the first thing I do is survey the restaurant. If I see drinks being served out of mason jars, I take my family and leave. That's the first sign that I'm about to pay 35 dollars for three thin slices of brisket served on top of a cutting board with two table spoons of potato salad. The other options for barbecue require you to stand outside in the heat for 45 minutes in the morning because they are going to sell out of their best items by 12:30. But barbecue is best served at lunch and dinner. The County Line delivers. The food is great, the portions are generous, and their beef ribs are always in supply. I got the Dino ribs, Mac and cheese, and the potato salad. The Dino ribs were great, a deep smoky flavor,with great fatty richness to it and a good bbq sauce on the side, just smelling it would make a vegan change their ways. The Mac and cheese was good, not great, had an out of the box feeling to it, but like one of the expensive boxes. The potato salad was not seasoned well enough. This location could not be better. A beautiful view of the river. This place is located right on the Riverwalk next to many other restaurants and shops. The service is this restaurant's downfall. The County Line was within walking distance and had a nice big, air conditioned dining room, perfect! We ended up sharing the bbq platter for two which had ribs, sausage, turkey and brisket. The meat was pretty tender and I liked having the two different bbq sauces. The ribs & sausage were the best part. The turkey was meh. We also had the fried pickles which was pretty good. She was nice enough to replace the 2nd cut brisket and also offered the leaner cut to try. The lean brisket was better but the 2nd cut brisket was the same--not chewable. Not sure if this was an off-day, but I would not come back again for their smoke meats. I recomnend that the cooks/chefs try their meats before serving it to the customers. I'm here in San Antonio for a conference and some of my colleagues wanted to go here because "they always go there". First thing I did was check the reviews and off the bat knew it wasn't going to be good. Service: Our service was, nice, attentative and prompt with tasks. No complaints. Atmosphere: Cool aged wood and farm signs that made a light and fun "BBQ" atmosphere. Food: I had the 2 meat combo and got 2nd cut brisket (fatty pieces, more flavor was the comment) and sausage. My sides were beans and mac and cheese. Additionally I got the fried pickles. Food cont, The beans were flavored well and had a nice ham stock, mac and cheese tasted bland and needed salt and pepper, friend pickles were one of the best things as far as consistency and overall balance of flavor. The sausage was mostly pepper flavored and had no body, the brisket.....was bad, it was flavorless. The brisket tasted like boiled meat with no seasonings. No bar, no rub. I ate it with the bbq sauce given. The rating is the price and quality of food. For $40 (tip included) I shouldn't be leaving unsatisfied. And this was my first restaurant of "Texas BBQ". Although we technically ordered 3 entree, the server explained to us that their portion is fairly a lot so we listened and after we were done eating, we were satisfied. We went to the holiday parade and made sure we were in this area as it was on our list of restaurants to visit at the Riverwalk. The wait time was 10-15 minutes, but we were seated in less than 5 minutes. One of the hardest things about eating out with food allergies is there is always a high possibility that there might not be ANYTHING on the menu that I can eat. Well, turns out I could eat the brisket; and I mean ONLY the brisket. Our server Judy was amazing! She made sure to answer all my questions and made sure the food was safe for me to eat. The Atmosphere on the river walk was pretty cool, the old school rustic appearance was pretty neat, lots to look at as you walk through and wait for your server. Certainly not boring. *there was a funky smell coming from the Bar area... likely a dirty drain, or server well** The server we had was very nice, he sat us by a window which was fun to people watch the folks on the River walk. The Menu is pretty good, lots of options, and pretty decent serving sizes. The Bread is a must order but unless there are 5 or more in a party, stick to a half loaf it's HUGE. The Mac and Cheese was bomb, friend pickles were awesome, Beans were amazing. Homemade Potato salad was very good as well. The Meats, which should be the star of the show, is where the experience was lacking unfortunately. The Chicken was very good, the Ribs VERY Good... The Brisket was not only Dry but the pieces I got were 90% fat, not much to eat, the sausage was tasty and the turkey pieces were DRY DRY, not even able to eat them. They give you heaping cups of BBQ sauce for the Meat tray, and I can see why. Its almost like they knew the meat needed excess sauce, so instead of giving better pieces they just loaded me up with Sauce..
