Visited this new Korean Place in Alhambra last Wednesday to celebrate a co-worker birthday! The food was excellent! We were ordered the pork belly bosom, bibimbap and the vegetable seafood pancake. The ambiance modern and staff very accommodating . They even offered to put the BD cake in refrigerator. In addition, they brought us plates and napkins for our cake. We go there early so not too many people but by the time we left, the place was pretty packed. I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. read more

I ordered the lunch special hot stone bibimbap. I think putting it in a hot stone didn't work for me because it toasted the rice and cooked the runny yolk of the egg on top. There was barely any meat on it. I was disappointed as I was looking forward to this place. If I go next time I will try the brisket soup. Came to check out this new Korean restaurant. As a Korean and Korean food lover, I left a little disappointed. Ordered the galbi Jim and galbi tang. Galbi tang was just okay the broth didn't taste like a typical galbi tang you get in restaurant but can't really mess up soup so it was decent. Galbi jjim was about $70 and the meat quality was so poor. Like other reviews mentioned was very very dry with small pieces of meat. It also Did not fall off the bone and was way too chewy. I thought the mushrooms and rice cake in the galbi jjim was tasty but for the price you're paying, the portion & quality of the meat was not good. It's okay. You can definitely tell they're new. When I went with friends there were several little service hiccups that left things a little stickier than need be. I got the dolsot bibimbap and my friends got the naengmyun/galbi combo. Tastewise, my dish was fine - nothing special. But being that it came in a sizzling hot stone bowl, it was problematic that when they placed it in front of me, they did it so that one handle was pointing towards me instead of safely to the sides. As soon as you sit down, they provided you with a bone broth in a cup. Light, clean, and refreshing. Service is excellent! Very attentive! As for the food everything tastes so fresh and love how it's served hot and stays hot! Portion is also on the bigger size, in my opinion. Worthy of their price range. Favors was definitely there and the spice level is at a level where you can easily finish your food. Their sides were so different from other Korean restaurant and they seem like to be very generous with it! Some are refillable and some are not. Comes out when the main dishes are rolled out. The pork that comes in the soup was soft and basically falls off the bones. You taste how fresh their ingredients are because the umami taste lingers. Came in for soft opening. This is excellent Korean food for the price which is closer to home. Located at the outskirts of downtown Alhambra. They start you off with warm soup. Their appetizers are a little different with marinated peanuts, mild zucchini and a pumpkin salad. The portion of the bulgogi bibimbap and cold noodle is very generous. The flavor is top notch. Ken is a very friendly and attentive waiter. The atmosphere and setting is very clean and inviting. Please support this venue. You won't be disappointed. read more

I understand what a soft opening is. It's meant to work out the kinks. Test the kitchen. Smooth the service. Figure things out. What I did not expect was to be part of a live experiment in how badly you can ruin galbi-jjim. For those unfamiliar, galbi-jjim is supposed to be rich, tender, deeply savory BRAISED short rib -- fall-off-the-bone meat bathed in a glossy, complex sauce. What arrived at my table was...a crime scene. The meat wasn't tender. It wasn't succulent. It was tight, dry, and you could taste the poor execution of whatever was happening in the kitchen. It was almost as if they microwaved the beef or drained all of its flavor by boiling it. Maybe it was because they purchased the cheaper cuts of beef? A soft opening is not a free pass to serve food that tastes like a first draft. It's an opportunity to impress early supporters and build goodwill. I genuinely hope they improve because Alhambra could use some Korean restuarants. If this is the baseline, they are not "working out the kinks." They are still learning how to turn the stove on. As a Korean, I am deeply disappointed in how this meal turned out. Even after complaining about the food all we got was "Ill let the kitchen know." Me and my mom love Korean food so we basically tried all Korean restaurants in San Gabriel Valley. What makes this Korean restaurant special is their choices of side dishes. First when you just sit down, you were given a cup of tasty broth. It helps to warm you up especially in a cold day. When the server brought the side dishes, he introduced them and let you know which one is refillable. There were zucchini, jelly, seaweed, very common but cooked in a different way or seasoning compare to other restaurants. All very tasty. There's also a cabbage miso soup, clam & skate fish (not refillable), which I never tried in other Korean restaurants. They were very good, too. The kimchi, however, is the least tasty of all. We ordered a galbi-tang and spicy squid hot stone rice and they are all up to my expectation. The server was also very attentive and nice. I will be coming back for sure. read more

The menu had so many great options--Galbi (Korean short ribs), bibimbap (mixed rice with meat and vegetables), spicy crab, Galbi Jjim, and much more. Stumbled upon this restaurant while we were walking. We were supposed to eat someplace else but when we looked inside, the interior looked so clean and a nice ambiance to catch up and enjoy some food so we decided to go there. Upon talking to the waitress, Jenny, we learned they had been open for 2 months. Jenny was so enthusiastic and attentive to our needs. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. We also talked to Sean and he recommended popular items from the menu and was so kind too. We ordered their squid bimbimbap, the Combo Galbi with cold noodles, and the seafood pancake. Everything was so so good. My favorite was the seafood pancake... it was perfectly crisp and wasn't soggy at all. The food was great. This restaurant has, hands down, the best seafood scallion pancake in LA--seriously!!! It was extremely expensive for a pancake (about $30 with tax), but honestly, I'd still order it again if I go back. But the WAITING ??? Absolutely the worst experience ever. I arrived around 7:30 PM on a Sunday and saw that about half the tables were empty. Still, the host told us there would be a 20-25 minute wait. I asked why we had to wait when no one else seemed to be waiting and there were clearly open tables. She said there were groups ahead of us. Okay, fine--but did anyone get seated during the 25 minutes we waited? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Why make people wait like that??? It was only 7:30--not even close to last call. After we were finally seated, service was still very slow, and there was a lot of room for improvement: 1. Side dishes were served without rice. 2. The rice came out after we had already finished the side dishes, so we ended up waiting for the soup while the rice got dried since it was served without its cover. 3. One server brought brisket dipping sauce (like the kind used for KBBQ) for the gamjatang. Then when we asked another server for soy sauce for the seafood pancake(because there was none), she said the brisket sauce was for the pancake and even offered to bring more. So we ended up eating the pancake with brisket sauce--which is honestly strange, since Korean pancake sauce is typically soy sauce mixed with vinegar and chili flakes. 4. At most Korean restaurants, gamjatang is served with an extra bowl for the bones, but they didn't provide one. I had to ask for it later. The main server's service was great but overall it was way too slow in every steps to get our food. We could start the meal at 9pm. Can you believe it haha The overall ambiance of the restaurant was okay, but it felt humid and uncomfortably warm. Thank god it was their soft opening. I hope they get better management quality that matches their food quality. read more

Not a traditional Korean restaurant.... The cold noodles had a dash of cold broth and a bunch of gochojang! the galbee chim didn't taste traditional and all seemed to only mimic Korean food. I'm Korean raised with Korean food and this to me was a non Korean pretending to serve Korean dishes. Not saying the taste was terrible but felt fooled.
