The best seat in the house is the four seater squeezed in front of the cashier and next to all the pasta tossing action. Here you can see the hand-written chalkboard menu, have the orders put almost directly into your face, and feel the heat of the kitchen all at once. On a busy Friday lunch the place was packed with a line of 15 people waiting outside in the cold. This three person operation is a show in and of itself (1 chef, 1 dish washer, 1 waiter) and the cozy room serves up intimacy, fun, and really really good food. This place is delicious. So delicious. My 100% Italian aunt who grew up in Boston took me here, so I knew it would be good. I had heard a lot about black pasta over the years, but I had never had it before. Oh man, that was an amazing decision. The pasta was well cooked and that good thick mildly chewy type of pasta. The sauce was flavorful and plentiful. They cook everything in one pot and then give you the pot as your plate. The one downside is that the restaurant and tables are on the small side so its hard to fit these large pots full of delicious plentiful food on the tables. But that is a good problem to have. We just took a five day trip to New England and this was the absolute best place we ate. The dish we got was for two people and called Lobster Fra Diavolo. It was an amazing dish full of seafood in a tomato sauce. The place is so small we could see the chef prepare with a fresh lobster. Keep in mind the place is small and only accepts cash. I have been to all the other locations and this one is BY FAR the worst. My friends and I went during lunch time and nothing tasted like it was supposed to. The aglio olio did not taste like it was supposed to and overall the experience was terrible. I have been a fan of the Daily catch for years and it was my first time at the north end location. being out-of-towners from the great city of chicago, and always trying to find the best food in other cities, my eyes were set on neptunes. and mike's pastry. seeing that we dragged ass getting pretty, we were too late for the 'tunes and hopped over to mike's for some cannoli. yelp has always come thru for me when traveling, so i quickly tried to find the nearest and dearest seafood/pasta place. across the street from mike's was this cute, small place - i had a good feeling about it. there was a line. they only seat 20. but i knew (and yelped helped) that it was gonna be great. we stood in line for 45min. expected. everywhere in the north end takes 45 minutes. we made some friends in line (who gushed about this place and how it's worth the wait), we studied the menu, we ate bites of mike's pastry (that's what she said). finally, we got in, greeted by a busy but nice, italian dude named chris. this place ain't for romance and ambiance. this is straight up, no nonsense italian seafood. it's tiny. the kitchen shares the room, which might even be larger than the dining room itself. a old asian man's the head chef, working hard to push out dishes. we started with the grilled calamari - yum! i ordered the black linguine aglio olio - it was awes. FRESH pasta, ground squid, delicious in my mouth. i should have gotten the 1/2 order since i didnt finish. my bestie, who's vegan, was prepared to order a simple salad, but chris offered to have chef make her plain pasta w veg since their marinara was made with a meat (maybe lobster?)-based broth. my other gf ordered the linguine and shrimp. the dishes come out in the pan it was cooked in. a glass of wine per person. done - awesome. We came here for lunch on our last day in Boston. We had to try this restaurant before we left. The food is very good and is served in the pan it was cooked in. I had the black pasta (pasta noodles made with squid ink) and scallops. My fiancee had scallop linguine with red sauce. Our waiter was very friendly and made us feel at home. We arrived at 12:45pm on a Sunday to find no wait and about half the restaurant empty.I couldn't believe my eyes! We were not promptly attended to- there was only one waitress working. We were given a small table for 2 near the doorway, which was nice because we didn't have to share the large table with 2 other parties,but bad because we were slapped with a large gush of cold air every time the door opened or closed,which was quite often. About 15 min after arriving, the restaurant was filled and the notorious line out the door began. I ordered a small portion of the squid ink pasta with olive oil and garlic. It is one of the top 3 most popular dishes and apparently a must try. The dish tastes exactly as it is described. Squid ink pasta doesn't taste much different than normal pasta, it just has a different texture. It tends to be a bit thicker and chewier.The olive oil and garlic sauce complimented the pasta perfectly. Although I don't think I'll crave this dish often, I'm definitely glad I tried it. My friend ordered the fish and chips. The fish chunks are cut in squares and still include the fish skin. The portion of fries was pretty large and the tartar sauce tasted homemade. Our lunch experience was quick, delicious and filling. I don't think I'd be wiling to wait more than 30 minutes for a a seat here,but if you have the opportunity to give The Daily Catch a try, I highly recommend you take it! read more

Service was as you would expect - attentive and quick Food : We had - Calamari Platter - Putanesca - Shrimp Linguine in White Sauce Putanesca was best of the lot. The first Calamari Platter served to us had a piece of Hair in it ... ewwww . It was promptly replaced the moment we brought it to our hostess's attention. Only good thing on the platter is the Calamari Salad. Rest items are strictly OK. The staff is very rude; I would not recommend The Daily Catch to anyone. I went between lunch and dinner on a weekend, but the staff would basically not let me in. For a party of three we waited in line for almost an hour, but we could see as many as ten place settings open during that time. While it was obvious that there were three parties waiting outside, the staff was very slow to clean tables, and the hostess ate her lunch, and counted her money while we waited. While we were waiting, the hostess/waitress Connie was irritable and rude with us. There are no paper menus, so we stuck our heads in to read the chalkboard menu and without tact or class we were pushed back out the door. This despite other parties in front of us in line doing the same while they were in line. We also observed the staff become impatient with a family at another table who needed more time deciding on their order. When the waitress asked what they wanted, the father told her that they would like menus. Instead of explaining that the menu is on the wall, the waitress pointed to the board and said something to the effect of "there's the menu, what do you want to order?" At this point, she tapped her pen on their table until they came up with their order. When they told her they wanted a lobster dish, the chef called out from the kitchen to make have them repeat themselves. When they confirmed that they wanted the lobster, the waitress read them the price and asked if they still wanted to order it. I could not believe a member of the staff would ask a customer if they could afford the dish before putting the order in. This was one of the most insulting things I've seen while eating out. There are plenty of reviews here attesting to the quality of the food, but for me, it is not worth being treated this badly. read more

The portions are okay, but to pay twenty-two bucks for their black pasta was too much. The pasta was a bit grainy and firm. The black ink pasta in Venice is different and sooo much better. I wanted to update, because I just couldn't understand how the reviews were so stellar. I decided to give this restaurant another try (particularly because my coworkers and I needed our Mike's Pastry fix, which is located across the street). This time, I stayed away from the squid ink pasta and ordered the shrimp, scallops, broccoli with linguine in white sauce. Wow, this dish was just what I wanted. The flavor was great and the shrimp, scallops, broccoli were all cooked perfectly (not too much, not too little). My coworkers also got the linguine with red sauce as well as the monkfish marsala. I saw my boss licking up the sauce from the marsala dish and now I really want to be sent back to Boston to try this dish: it looked amazing! I guess what you like is all based on personal preference. Maybe I'm just not a putanesca person in general, so I'm definitely glad I gave this restaurant another try. When I visit Boston, this is my go-to seafood restaurant. Its a little hole in the wall, but like all the reviews below keep on saying...you definately need to get the black squid ink pasta. The squid ink doesn't really add flavor to the pasta, but the pasta itself is very good. Very chewy and flavorful. I had the Aglio Olio (ground Calamari with olive oil, garlic, and anchovy). I didn't taste any anchovy, maybe it was just the slighly salty taste i picked up. But the pasta was very garlicy and olive oily. read more

My favorite memory of Boston. My husband and I took the Amtrak to Boston and stayed for a few days and walked the city. We were lucky enough to get into Daily Catch without much of a wait.
