I was in town for a wedding and had time to spare. I researched the net and found The Depot. It is off the beat and path but well worth a visit. First off, the staff were the friendliest staff I have had in years. They genuinely seem happy and want to make your experience worth it. I asked my waitress for a recommendation if you had the chance to only eat one thing what would it be. The Garbage Wings, rated # 2 in New York, behind The Anchor Bar, Buffalo. Wings, were to die for. It was hard to place the flavor. Sweet, spicy, mild, fruity, you name it. They are different than the Anchor wings ... smaller but cooked much better. They were nice and crispy yet not dry. I also ordered a side of onion wings, beer battered. Both served with homemade sauces. The owner came over to ask what I thought...told her the above. She was so nice she gave me a bottle of the Garbage Sauce. I can't wait to try it. P.S. Every food item that came out looked fantastic. read more

While vacationing up in the Oneonta while visting a friend that goes to Hartwick college he took me to the Depot. It was a bit confusing to get too because it off the main road and a few turns in the backstreet to get to plus it was pouring rain when we went. Since we arrived a hour before it closed there was only a few customers in the place. The depot had a old style to it being that at one time it might have been an old railroad station hence the name. Even though I didn't sit at the bar or order a drink the Depot had a nice selection of beers on tap. Having eating burgers and BBQ through the day my friend and I wanted have something else instead so we went for the veal. Yes it does look like a good burger place but we wanted a change for the night. The meal came with a salad which was fine, one of your ordinary salads. The veal was very good being tender and having a good tomato sauce on top and penne with it. The penne was soft and not chewing at all. The waitress was very nice and always carried a smile, even though it was closing time she seemed like she was in a pleasant mode. Nothing was wrong with the place but I would go back again to try the other entrees and dessert. The only thing that was annoying was the music was going on and off but that might of been to the count of the rain. Very nice atmosphere I don't know how the crowd is during a regular dinner hour hope to go back in see. So I give it a 4. read more

The steak here is amazing and the staff is awesome! Our baseball team showed up for dinner and they quickly and pleasantly Accommodated us with smiles and great food. They also did separate checks which two other restaurants downtown were not willing to do. read more

The Depot is known for its Garbage Wings and upside down pizza. I don't care for Buffalo hot wings but these garbage wings are amazing - a little mixture of buffalo sauce, garlic, and BBQ in the perfect combination. I'm not a fan of upside down pizza but natives in Oneonta will tell you Depot pizza is their favorite. The burgers are fabulous. Lately the service has been spotty.....the place will be half empty but they'll wait over an hour to seat you. read more

We went this past weekend and boy, it was hopping so we had to wait a bit for a table. We had the garbage wings because they sounded interesting. Best wings I've every had in my life! Beer on tap could use something a bit darker, or even something from Ommegang, the local brewery. They do have Guinness in bottles though so my DH was happy about that. The food was good, the Wimpy burger was huge - I took half home for lunch- and my DH loved the Train Wreck burger, good prices and the service was great. Ask for Amy if you go. We live less than 1/2 mile from The Depot and we can never remember why we don't go more often, tonight we remembered and this time I'm pretty sure we won't forget again! My son had a sirloin steak, overcooked and his baked potato was hard as a rock (picture the chicken in Christmas vacation), my husband and I had an italian sampler, the manicotti was overcooked as was the chicken in the chicken parm. The price was outrageous!!! As much as I love their pizza.. I definitely will patronize the reasonably priced pizza/italian restaurants in town from now on! The food was decent (not anything special), but the way i was treated was awful. They messed up my order and because I have a medical condition, I almost ended up in the hospital. When i calmly brought this to the owners attention, I was treated condescendingly and treated as if i was a liar. I was told that it was my own fault and i should be more careful when i go out to eat. Worst customer service i have ever experience and I work in the food industry. read more

Fair warning, this place is not the easiest to find. It's definitely a local place, our waiter sounded surprised when we said we'd never been there before and that we were from out of town. My co-workers got the burgers, which are huge and come topped with onion rings. They're the fair-style type of onion ring that are more batter than onion, but personally I love those! My Reuben was also good, although nothing out of the ordinary. The service was pretty slow. We waited for over 5 minutes before we were seated even though there were loads of empty tables. Our waiter was nice though and gave us good recommendations for beer and confirmation on getting the wings. We go there every year for a friends bday! And WAS always great, but this year we waited soo long for our food. We had a reservation for 15 people. But apparently they thought ok to take in 2 more large groups at the same time. We ordered at 6:45 and got our food at 8:30....wow really an hr and 45 min wait. Some of our food was good, one order was wrong, and a few others food was cold. The waitress was very nice and tried hard to keep drinks, breads on the table. The owner did not even come out and apologize for the forever wait or maybe take a drink of the bill or offer anything for the incovenience. We actually were going to try a new resteraunt this year but when we called for reservation, they were smart enough to say no we already have large reservations coming instead of just making us wait. We watched people come in, eat, leave. Set the hole night off! Yup never again! :(. Oh and I honestly don't think there was any alcohol in my margarita at all. read more
