We visited here last weekend and I was highly disappointed. In my party, two of us ordered Margaritas, one Mango & one Passion fruit. When they arrived they both looked exactly the same, so upon tasting them, there wasn't really any flavor, so we had no idea what was what. The person delivering our appetizers, I asked her if she could call over our Waitress because I thought our drinks were wrong. She said, I'm the manager, how can I help. So I told her and her response just blew my mind. She said "well if there's no flavor, does it really matter"? I was shocked! Yes of course it matters to me.. if I've order something specific and I'm paying for it, yes it matters! I guess they are use to just serving a much younger clientele who really don't care, but that wasn't the case for us. Eventually our main server came back and we told her our dilemma. She politely said, " the two flavor syrups are almost the same color thats why they look alike". Then she asked if we'd like to have more syrup added, so we said yes of course. Why didn't the manager know this? And I specifically asked the Manager that, "don't you know what the drinks should look like"? To which she snapped, "she doesn't know what every drink looked like." yet your Server was right on top of being able to give me an explanation and a solution... maybe she needs to be in management. So of course I would not frequent here again, solely based on the interaction with the Manager and her nonchalant attitude. read more

Here for a bachelorette party and can not believe how bad the service is at this spot. The restaurant wasn't crowded. After we were seated, we waited 20 minutes until they took our order. Once ordered, it took over 30 minutes to receive our drinks. We saw them sitting behind the bar for 15 minutes before we were finally served the drinks. We asked 2-3 times for the status of our drinks and, at one point, the bartender snapped at the server and told her to "take the drinks to us because we wouldn't stop bitching at her." We were incredibly polite when asking and only first asked after we realized we had been waiting over 30 minutes. When we did receive the drinks, the orders were also wrong. One girl ordered a casamigos and soda, and received a Tito's soda. Highly highly recommend you do not go here and try another wonderful spot nearby! Edit: Greg, you're mixing us up with another unhappy customer. We arrived around 1:30 or 2:00 after lunch. We immediately asked for our checks once the drinks arrived and even left tips. i stopped in here for a quick drink and snack on the way home. first off, the happy hour prices are amazing, and anyone complaining about the prices must be cheap af. for a drink i had the chi chi which was a pina colada with some strawberry puree... i don't usually order frozen drinks but hey when in tikibar... it was pretty sizable especially at half off and the best tasting drink I've had in a while. plus the bartender didn't seem annoyed that i ordered a frozen drink as it's a third of their cocktail list. i tried the street corn and the coconut shrimp. the coconut shrimp were simple and delicious with plenty of coconut. i could've eaten another order. the street corn on the other hand is the only reason i took off a star. i didn't love the flavor, and the description said cojita cheese but there was none on my order. that would've balanced out the flavor. elote is one of my favorite dishes, and i try it everywhere. this one missed the mark for me. i asked if they could serve it off the cob, and apparently the chef is very picky about that and unwilling to do so. i recommend checking out the menu beforehand since it's quite extensive, and it's pretty dark and tikiesque in there. corn aside, drunk munk hit the spot, and i can't wait to go back and try more drinks and food selections. read more

It really wasn't anything special. They play very loud club-like music, which throws the vibe off. If you're looking for a typical old town bar to go to, this might be right up your alley. This is not an April Fool's joke. So sad and disappointed. I had very high hopes for this place. This review has nothing to do with them only being open for a few weeks. The food portions were ridiculously small for what they are charging. The drinks were just OK but well priced. The girls at the hostess stand were great and sat us right away, so that was not a problem. Before we could even make it in the door we were given absolutely poopy service. We were told that our party of 8 could not sit together our group would have to be split. Their largest table fit 7 and they could not add an extra chair. They could not put two tables together either. So let's be honest here: this place isn't true "tiki" for those who frequent tiki bars. The drinks are fruit juice heavy and not true to the classic recipes, the music is a random mix of classic rock and modern day hits, and the decor (with the exception of the cool Moai head behind the bar) isn't tiki at all. BUT - the drinks are tasty if you're not a stickler about following the real recipe and the food is great! Really enjoyed the street tacos in particular. Very kind and helpful waitstaff and fun people watching from the patio. Overall, I'd recommend it if you aren't a tiki bar purist and just looking for a fun tropical inspired place to hang out. Tiki enthusiasts should go elsewhere though (Undertow isn't too far away!). read more

Really love Hawaiian themed restaurants and this place is sub par at best; hence why I gave it an average rating. Love that they have pictures of their drinks on the menu but the server literally was trying to sell a $30 single bottle of champagne-- I can get that for $10 and bottomless at Bevvys. Also ordered the pu pu platter and that definitely does not feed more than three people. Do like the fishbowls that they have but really need servers with more knowledge of the menu. Also please add chicken katsu to the menu, shocked that isn't on there when it's "Hawaiian" themed. read more

Came on a Sunday for lunch. Every place around was packed and had a line. This place we walked right in. That should have been a hint to us. Sat down at noon and took 15 minutes before anyone asked if we would like something to drink. After we ordered our food took an hour for that to come out. Server kept saying they got slammed in the kitchen. Guess they did not actually expect people to eat. They have two young ladies behind the bar. Feels like this is more of a bar than restaurant. If you want to have lunch or brunch go elsewhere. If you want island drinks and are ok sitting at the bar for two hours, you're in the right place. Food, not good at all! read more

We go frequently and love it. Since Trader Vic's closed at the Valley Ho, this is the best place for fun tropical drinks and food in old town. The quality of the food is very good, too. We have sampled all of the appetizers and are particularly fond of the Pu-Pu platter. We go down the menu on drinks and start over again once we've tried them all over our regular visits. As a local I can definitely recommend this place for a fun afternoon/evening destination. read more

One star for good food. Pulled pork tacos we're tasty, but nothing extrodinary. My cousin had a burger said it was loaded with onions. Which over powered the entire dish. Moth of our party ordered chicken teriyaki bowl. We had a semi large party with separate checks. When the checks arrivers we were forced to tip a certain amount as it was included in our individual checks. (I would have been fine with this if it had been worth the amount charged) It was absurd! Our server could not even bring refills for water in a timely manner. There were people in our party who didn't get their drinks for over 20min! It was not even busy when we ordered or most of the time we were there!! They added one of my cousins items to my check; and I did not want to even deal with it at that point! This place is awful! Great staff! Beautiful interior. Quick and friendly service. Cozy place to bring a date. Absolute worst tiki drinks. Cheap mixers and even cheaper spirits that equal a lousy though inexpensive drink. Mystery smells at the bar didn't help. Bad tiki. Crappy food is expected at tiki joints so no points taken away for the underwhelming cuisine. Although our waiter had a terrible attitude another waiter had a puff bar in her hand while walking around the restaurant. My husband and I visited the Drunk Munk on Saturday, May 8th for a late lunch and cocktail. We have not spent much time in Scottsdale and came across this tiki bar after leaving a not so impressive wine bar. Rose greeted us and was the sweetest hostess! We sat at the outdoor bar area and Emily provided the best service! She was so attentive to all of her guests even while being busy as the only bartender/server outside. There were several couples and even a bachelorette party and she kept her service top notch even when things were busy. We will definitely go back. The mai tais are great (we upgraded the rum) and the tuna nigiri and coconut shrimp were delicious! read more

Came here for the first time last Saturday in the mid afternoon with a few friends. We were seated right away (outside at our request) and a server arrived shortly after. He was able to give some good recommendations and he also accommodated us by putting down a sun shade when it got too hot. The Grotto is a very strong drink, just a heads up. I was here last night horrible service and common sense from the hostess. My friends and I asked for a table outside (which they were some available but all with dirty glasses ) so we said we could sit inside for now until they clean the Tables outside, the hostess said no we couldn't do that. I was annoyed by it but we stayed inside anyways. We had another group of two (by now we were a party of six) and I asked our server if she could move us, she gracefully said yes. When I went to ask the hostess when we were getting our new table since we couldn't sit 6 in a table of 4 she said (in a very rude and unprofessional way) she was the one managing the floor and our server was not able to assure us a table without talking to her first! I asked to speak with a manager, just to find out our server never did ask for a bigger table. We decided to ask for our check and took our business somewhere else. This shows how someone's narrowed mindset can ruin your business, we were a party of six wanting to ask for a bottle service and dinner. Not very smart to have this kid in front of the house making you loose clients and money. Not coming back, ever! read more

Glad we stumbled upon this place. We stopped by over the weekend and sat at the bar. Super impressed with the cocktail menu. Elaine and Collin helped us. We sat fairly close to where the servers pick up there drinks and It was very entertaining to watch them make the drinks, they need to give that girl a raise she was nonstop making drinks and quickly. I had the bikini girl and sandy pants and my boyfriend just had draft beer... boring. I love the fun flowers in the drinks. Collin was super nice in letting us taste some of their blended drinks. Absolutely HORRIBLE service! Waited 20 minutes for our first round of drinks. Waited another 25 minutes for the second round. Complained to the "manager" who told us it's "normal" to wait 20 minutes for a drink in this pathetic establishment. By the way, we were waiting for beers, not the fancy mixed drinks. The management clearly doesn't have a clue about customer service! Manager said it's "normal" to wait 20-30 minutes for a drink and when I pressed her about hiring another bartender, her pathetic response was that she couldn't magically hire one "right now." Just another sad example of an establishment that will cease to exist one the newness wears off. Don't waste your money!! This place sucks!! read more

We were the only 2 at the bar my girlfriend had an empty drink for over 30 minutes. We were there an hour and a half with 1 drink and food ordered twice that never showed up.
