It really lived up to the hype and was so fresh and flavorful, but you absolutely have to tell them to go light on the Parmesan because they do not hold back. The restaurant was empty during our visit, and our server checked in on us frequently, which I appreciated. As for the drinks, I had the Crimson & Clover, which left a lot to be desired. However, I followed it with a mezcal espresso martini, and that was amazing--so I'm a bit conflicted about the drinks overall. All in all, there were some definite highs and some misses. I really appreciated the manager taking our feedback seriously and making things right, but I'm not sure this is a place I'll be rushing back to.

Instead, we were led into a beautiful dining room tucked in the back with gorgeous lighting, artwork on the walls, and the perfect corner booth for two. Our server, Marie, was exceptional. She walked us through the menu, shared her genuine favorites, and never once pushed the most expensive items. It felt like getting recommendations from a friend rather than a sales pitch. We started with the martini flight, another cocktail, the small seafood tower, Wagyu skewers, and six oysters. The warm bread that followed was the perfect addition, and everything we ordered was delicious. Just when we were debating whether to order another drink or dessert, Brandi stopped by and asked if we enjoyed bourbon. Minutes later, she was tableside crafting an Old Fashioned from a beautiful cocktail cart. It was completely unexpected and made the evening feel even more special. As we were wrapping up, the team mentioned that the restaurant was part of a larger space and invited us to explore. We wandered upstairs and discovered an incredible collection of Broadway memorabilia, a live music venue, and even a private room filled with theater history. I understand they've brought in a new chef, which may explain the difference. We ordered a delicious Blanc de Blancs and an Old World Chablis, both of which paired perfectly with the oysters and seafood towers. The creamy, lemony sauce served with the seafood tower elevated the entire experience. I might come back just for that sauce. The tuna tartare and steak tartare were both excellent, and the steak entrée is another dish I'd happily return for. It's not often that a restaurant with such a spectacular location also delivers equally impressive food and service, but Peak is a rare exception.

The immediate slap in the face was discovering the heavy-handed corporate rebrand, complete with Mastercard logos plastered across the menus and tacky red-and-yellow lapel pins on the staff. It instantly drains any sense of luxury, making the dining room feel cheap, commercialized, and jarringly out of place. The operational missteps started before the water was even poured. Our party of four was squeezed into a rounded booth explicitly built for two, turning our meal into a claustrophobic game of high-stakes table Tetris. The service was equally disjointed. We were hit with the classic amateur tag-team--asked for our water order, only for a second server to ask us the exact same question two minutes later. When our primary server finally graced us with his presence, he skipped the basic courtesy of an introduction, barking straight into drink orders. Then came the baffling kitchen pacing. Cocktails from the bar took a full ten minutes, yet my glass of champagne arrived almost immediately alongside just one of the two orders of milk bread we requested. When we asked about the missing second basket, the server's deadpan explanation was, "Sorry for the delay, we only have one oven!" Blaming kitchen timing on a single oven in a supposedly world-class NYC venue is almost comical. When I brought up the missing bread again during the main course, the server misunderstood and fired two additional orders. While he graciously comped the extra bread, my glass of wine, and a post-meal dessert after my halibut arrived dry, overcooked, and under-seasoned, a string of freebies can't compensate for a total collapse in execution. I don't book a table 100 stories in the air to be placated with damage control; I come for an exquisite, seamless night that I'm more than happy to pay full price for. Look, the view from 101 stories up remains unbeatable...easily the best skyline view in Manhattan. But a breathtaking backdrop doesn't excuse a kitchen that's coasting and a staff that's just going through the motions. Next time, I'll gladly pay the entrance fee for the Edge observation deck, soak in the view, and take my appetite down to ground level where the food is actually cooked with care and the service gives a damn.

We were invited to dinner on the Lightship Frying Pan…read more, a historic 1929 vessel transformed into an open-air waterfront bar and restaurant at #Pier66a in Hudson River Park, #Manhattan. It may not be the oldest bar we've ever been to but it may be the most historic and the first time ever that we were floating during dinner. Built as United States Lightship #115 , it served as a floating lighthouse guarding the dangerous Frying Pan Shoals 30 miles off Cape Fear, North Carolina, from 1930 to 1965. It completed a wartime stint stationed at the Panama Canal. The vessel is listed on both the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. It is docked alongside another historic vessel, the FDNY fireboat John J. Harvey. Our food, cocktails, servers and company were top notch. The view and the venue were great and we couldn't have picked a better night.
