6:30pm dinner visit. Once seated, after 20 mins we asked the host if he could send a server to our table. She appeared 10 mins later, took drink orders, and said she would bring out cornbread. The beverages were delivered, we placed food orders, and 20 mins later, the server stopped to let us know they were out of cornbread, with no offer of a substitution. 45 mins later, I flagged down the server to get a status update on our food. She rolled her eyes and said she'd check in the kitchen. The pork BBQ was literally sitting in a puddle of grease. The chicken tenders for the kids order and for the chicken and waffles were overcooked-think dark brown crispy coating, and the waffles were charred. Never again. This was, at one time a nice local place to get a good meal, with great service and good food. Those days are gone. RIP. THIS PIG HAS FLOWN. read more

Came here for lunch today and was very disappointed. I got the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. The pork was at least a day old had obviously been sitting out for a while and reheated. I've heard good things about this place and was looking forward to some good BBQ. Maybe hit or miss at best from my experience. My waitress was kind and helpful it's a shame the kitchen could not back her up. read more

Visited recently and ordered a barbecue stuffed potato and some onion straws. Had to pay 15.00 for a small potato, a small amount of barbecue with cheese. Had a decent taste but they were stingy with the barbecue. There is a place in Chattanooga that serves these and this one at The Flying Pig was pitiful compared to it. They have HUGE potatoes too unlike The Flying Pig. So sad that we don't get our money's worth anymore. The onion straws were good along with the sauce. The service was good also. read more

Happened to be in the neighborhood after going to a class in the nearby library. Found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to try it, and I am glad I did. Half price ribs on Monday. I ordered the pulled pork with broccoli and bbq beans. All was good. Madison was an excellent server. Very friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back with the wife. We have come here for the past 4 to 5 years , and order the Philly cheese steak egg rolls. Sadly over time, they have gotten smaller and smaller. They now look like spring rolls, not egg rolls. We love the salads and atmosphere. Great staff. read more

Found out why it seems to be empty so often. I apologize to the hostess who I had to inform there was football on Sunday evenings. Word of warning for others who try to inform her of this: Prepare to be sat next to the kitchen door for your perceived insult. Food came out cold. Pulled pork was flavorless. Sauce bottles didn't work. Cajun seasoning was gritty and poor quality. I actually bought better Cajun seasoning at the food lion down in the shopping center, so I know it didn't come from there. Yesterday my husband and I got a rare lunch break sans kids and decided to check out The Flying Pig. We had gone once or twice for takeout during the pandemic but wanted to try dine in. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is really nice. Lots of seating, nice looking bar, and overall very clean appearance. We sat at a high top and since it was mid afternoon we didn't indulge but we're pleased with the selections on tap. We split the hush puppies for an appetizer and they were amazing. The honey butter was amazing with the slightly spicy batter. I got the Mac and cheese and burnt end tacos. For lunch you could just get one and with the hearty side and an app, it was the right choice. It was DELICIOUS and juicy and had just the right amount of spice. The Mac and cheese was creamy and super filling. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich and wings combo. I don't like wings. But holy cow they were good. And the pulled pork was phenomenal! We don't eat barbecue out much anymore because my husband smokes his own but this was on point. Can't wait to go back to try something else! read more

Came here to enjoy happy hour one weeknight (Tuesday) and decided to stay for dinner.... Service in the bar was great! Our server did an excellent job anticipating our needs, taking care of us and being friendly. She was helpful and knowledgeable with the menu as well. They have some amazing eats here! The salad is loaded with fresh greens... Their shrimp taco is handbreaded and VERY fresh and tasty... Their sweet potato fries are very nicely breaded and tasty as well. They have some VERY nice items on their menu, which (based on the food we enjoyed) are probably all freshly prepared, in-house. The place is nicely done too.... Kind of "industrial" like a typical BBQ joint with a dining room and hi-tops in the bar... Clean restrooms too. Overall, this place really impressed... Just went here for the first time last week. Got the Buffalo chicken sandwich which was delicious though I can't wait to go back and order the wings. Way more meat and less carbs for the same price if you get the boneless wings which are HUGE. This is a great restaurant. The wings are huge and delicious. I had the honey siracha and the "heat" was perfect. They came hot and cooked perfectly. A couple were the size of a small leg. Our server, Holly, was friendly and very attentive. The price is very reasonable for the large sized wings. If in the area again we will definitely stop in again. read more

Something has changed. I have recommended The Flying Pig too many people and have enjoyed their barbecue for a while now, but on my most recent visit I was seriously disappointed with both the service and the barbecue. When I write a review and recommend a restaurant to people I don't even know, the last thing I want to do is to see anyone disappointed. That is why I have to knock at least one star off my previous review because if I was a first-time customer I would have been really surprised and might not trust the reviewer because the service was really sub par and we just could not believe the enormity some of the mistakes made by the server and how incredibly different the barbecue was this time compared to previous times. The first thing was that the server did not notice that one of the service packets of knife and fork had a big chunk of food attached to it. I had to draw that to his attention and he got me a replacement. We didn't get any offers of refills of our water or drinks or beer. Our orders came out with sides on the wrong plates and one side never came at all, and he never really asked if we got everything that we ordered. I couldn't believe how greasy the barbecue was. I don't know if they are cutting corners now that the owners have a third restaurant or if this is just a lack of management or an operational issue, or just cutbacks in general, but had to sop up the grease and let the grease drain so that the barbecue would even be edible. It's hard to even leave a 3 star review but I know that they can do better than this and maybe it was just an off night, the macaroni and cheese is still incredible and the wedge salad was delicious. The Flyin' Pig is about 17-18 miles from where I live, that is a long ways for a restaurant to have an off night, it is a ways to go to end up getting less than what we feel like we paid for or deserved. So reluctantly I leave 3 stars and will only stop by if simultaneously in the area and craving Mac and cheese. read more

An overnight business trip brought me to Richmond. In the past, I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of BBQ in the area. This was my first time here. Overall, it was a good experience. I was a tad disappointed at the lack of brisket. I know, pig is literally in the name. I had the wing and taco combo. Smoked wings that are flash fried are a favorite of mine. Nekkid, please, and thank you. These wings did not disappoint. They had a nice smokey flavor, crispy skin, juicy, and delicious. I was less impressed with the pulled pork taco. This one is half on me. The menu clearly stated cheddar/jack cheese. I don't typically put cheese on BBQ but I did. The taco came in a flour tortilla. It was grilled. With the melted and burnt (good thing) cheddar, it tasted and ate more like a quesadilla. The cheese, combined with the slaw, really overpowered the pulled pork flavor. The pork alone did have a good flavor. The service was good as was the atmosphere. OK beer selection. Many of the brews I was interested in were tapped but left on the chalkboards. The restaurant was busy and appeared to be enjoyed by many. The price was in line with what I would have expected to pay. The wings would bring me back to explore other menu options. read more

I come to the restaurant often as I live right down the street. My favorite meal is the chili bowl with cornbread. Each time it's been an adventure. Long wait times and poor service/communication. For some reason every time I order cornbread the kitchen starts moving in slow motion as of they didn't expect anyone to order it. They should take it off the menu if they are so inept at preparing and serving it. My most recent experience? A 30 minute pickup order took an hour. For my troubles I'm rewarded with lukewarm food and extra piping hot cornbread. Best of luck cornbread lovers. I'm not coming back to this place if I can help it. read more

The food and service were both great, which is a rather uncommon occurrence nowadays unfortunately. I had the fried pickles as an appetizer. If you've ever had fried pickles as spears as opposed to chips, they tend to have the problem of coming unattached from the breading and scolding your mouth on the initial bite, but I was pleasantly surprised that these fried pickle spears did not have that problem! We had a group of 15 who came to The Flying Pig after soccer at XL Sports. They don't take reservations, so we sent a couple of people as advanced recon to see if we could get a table. They put us at the tall bar tables in the bar area, which was perfect. Our server greeted us promptly, took drink orders and offered appetizers. The group ordered a few, including a buffalo chicken dip and fried, stuffed jalapeños. I tried both, and other than a few stale chips, it was all tasty. For drinks, this place has s super selection of craft beers and my husband was thrilled to see Blue Mountain's Dark Hollow on tap. It was $9 a pint, but the stuff is liquid gold so he went for it. I ordered a Bombay Gin and tonic. For entrées, I picked the California fish tacos, which were made with blackened mahi mahi. My side was the jalapeño black beans, which were overly sweetened with honey with not even the slightest hint of jalapeño. They weren't that good, although I'm sure some people like them. I just don't like my black beans that sweet. The fish tacos were terrific. I requested jalapeño and expected pickled ones, but the server brought out fresh ones, which is a bonus. My husband got the barbecue pork platter, which he thought was good. My daughter got a burger with bacon on it and liked it too. I ordered a second drink, a Bombay sapphire dirty martini and it was watery and I couldn't taste the gin at all. I asked the bartender to taste it and he ended up remixing it with additional gin. It still wasn't great. I think next time I'll select a beer from their great list. I do like this place. The food feels like it's coming from someone's home kitchen. On our way back from visiting my deceased mother's gravesite, we decided to stop by the flying pig. We live a good hour from this restaurant. We arrived at 4:45pm and the hostess said the wait for our party of 6 was 30 minutes. We decided to wait. We watched large party after large party come in and be seated but we remained patient. After, 40 minutes we checked with the hostess who said we it would another 15 minutes. Again we waited patiently. We saw a party of 6 leave so I went and asked the waitress if we would be seated soon. She said she isn't sure when we will be seated. I said a party of 6 just left how are we not the next for that table. She said well a lot are at booths so the smaller parties are seated first. I explained our situation that we are tired, emotionally drained from the events of the day we don't live close to this restaurant. So I would appreciate if you could be honest and tell me how long. She said I don't know. I said that's sad because no one can make an informed decision if they want to wait or not. The girl just stared at me with no assistance with a true wait time. We decided to leave. As we were leaving a couple of two were also walking out because they called the restaurant and was told there was no wait time. Of course when they arrived was told there was a wait but wasn't told how long. I wish there was an option to give zero stars but unfortunately Yelp makes you give at least a one. Flying pig I hope you train your staff better to handle these situations. I would have rather your hostess say the wait it an hour or two then to string us along in hopes that we would get a table. read more
