First time here but most certainly will not be the last. The location is already amazing but this place has elevated it to a date night MUST do. The bar is beautiful and large, the tables are far enough apart for intimate conversation, but not too far to feel isolated.I had the steak sandwich. The flavor is undesirably good. The steak was well-prepared (medium well) and the bread was nice and toasted. Also had the bacon burger. It was very tasty and the bacon was crisp, but not burnt. The Firemans 4 is also a MUST try. I also had the lettuce wraps and I recommend these as well. There was nothing I did not like, and to top it all off, having the manager come by to personally ask how our experience was is just the icing on the cake. I WILL return. read more

I'm sad to give this place a 3 star but it's because they happy hour menu has majorly changed removing most of my favorite drinks. It's very unfortunate it was kind of a sad happy hour, but me and the wifey had a regular dinner and got the bacon burger and that was so delicious. Full of flavor and I had tots that was so crispy. This place use to have the best happy hour in the area, but the last time I went they gorged us on their happy hour. Drinks are prepared right, but there are now more options that are better priced for happy hour. Go across the highway for a much better old fashion for half the price. Sorry to see the happy hour go! Got the little slider burgers that hit the spot and the bartenders are spot on. If looking for a good pub in the Rim, then visit this bar. read more

We absolutely love this place! I came here with a group of friends and it was a big group- probably around 24 of us. we were worried they would say no but we were accommodated by the staff very graciously. They have a nice happy hour menu but we just missed it. That didn't stop us from getting drinks though. Hahaha. We had a lot of food and drinks! We tried their beer on tap, mixed drinks, wine, and scotch. All were delicious! We had the giant pretzels, fries, and something else I can't remember but the pretzel was a great hit. I had the cauliflower grits and shrimp. It was okay but it wasn't bad either. My friends had the salad and it looked and tasted delicious! We tried the dessert jar trio and it is a must. Highly recommend this place! After dinner we went bowling and imthat was also a lot of fun. What a great way to spend the evening and burn some of the calories from dinner. Can I count this as two reviews? Seriously, this is our new favorite spot for dining and drinking. Why? Well, good food and great drinks (and if you feel the calling, you can bowl next door), BUT, it's the service that is the cherry on top (or in your Old Fashioned, which is top notch). Went super excited to try their fish & chips. Don't go out that often post pandemic so this was a special date night. $7 for a Dos Equis draft? Seriously? Ordered the empanadas as a starter. I recommend you don't stop for them but go directly to Go. Mediocre at best with a sicken fly sweet bbq sauce. On to main fare. We got the ribeye sandwich and the fish and chips. Good flavor on the sandwich but a disaster in your hands. Messy and hard to eat. The fish was way too heavily battered but the fries were good. Not like eating fish and chips in the UK or at the magnificent fish and chips in KL but I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Overall for an $80+ evening drinking Dos Equis beers (2 each) I don't think it's worth the price tag. We will keep looking for - just not here. read more

We had a quick bite here before heading out to meet up with friends. The food was great and the drinks were fresh and fast!! Service was friendly and the environment was trendy and upbeat. Loads of great spaces to meet up with friends or family, or even have an intimate date. The patio itself would be a great romantic spot in the evening. All the staff here was lovely, friendly and helpful. It was recommended to check our happy hour from 3-6pm, where cocktails are $3 from 3-4, $4 from 4-5, and $5 from 5-6pm. Seems like a good deal to me. Check it out and you may also enjoy the owners other locations next door... The Rustic and Bowl & Barrel. Went here again on Saturday after catching a movie. We had a great experience and the service was amazing!! We had cocktails and lettuce wraps to start, amazing... for dinner we had fish and chips and shrimp and grits both dishes were great, the fish was a bit dark but still crisp and tasty. We tried both the birthday cake and the pot de creme....nothing could end the meal better. We will always be back and recommend this to our friends. read more

Had a really nice late brunch/lunch today here. On weekends, during brunch hours they offer $1 mimosas (I was informed they are mostly OJ) or $15 mimosa set up (a bottle of Wycliff and OJ to make your own). I went with the $15 set up because our waiter told us I could always take the rest of the bottle home. This is a great option for someone like me who doesn't like mostly OJ and a splash of champagne, I want mostly champagne with a splash of OJ. Both my husband and I ordered a dish with crab cakes. He got the crab cakes with brussel sprouts and really enjoyed it. I got the crab stack, a weekend brunch menu item, which is a crab cake, two slices of bacon and a fried egg with a side salad. Although I requested the dressing on the side, the salad came dressed but it wasnt overly dressed so I was fine with it. This was really good. The crab cakes was delicious with huge chunks of crab, the egg was nice and runny and the bacon was crispy. We also ordered a side of fries, which were hot, crispy and well seasoned. This was not a cheap lunch but it was enjoyable with the good food, service and nice outdoor patio. read more

One of the newer eateries added to the La Cantera area. I don't often get quail so today I ordered their Quail and Hotcakes. It's totally a shareable plate between two gals, at least for me I can split this meal. I think I enjoyed the savory hotcakes more so than the quail today. The chickpea flour is tricky to cook especially frying at high temp so today's quail coating was nearly too dark and very close to what I would consider burnt. The coating is nicely crisp but also a dry buffalo-style flavor so prepare for that spice to kick in; menu could offer better description of that. Atmosphere is wonderful and patio seating for this lovely day was perfect. The French Maid is definitely a refreshing cocktail. read more

The next night I was feeling a little homesick after being away for work, and all I could think about was that pizza. I walked back in and the host greeted me by name. I sat at the bar again, where another bartender remembered me from the night before, and Billy came over just to say hi. It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" You can tell they actually know their regulars and genuinely enjoy what they do. The second night I ordered the Fontina e Salsiccia, and somehow it was just as good as the first pizza. Everything is cooked in the wood-fired oven--even the wings--and you can taste the difference. The crust has that perfect char, the ingredients are fresh, and it's the kind of authentic Neapolitan pizza that keeps you thinking about it long after you've left. Here go! Another mid-day review of a restaurant I've never even heard of. The General Public is a bar and sit down hybrid and offers three cuisine levels: Lunch, Barroom, Supper. The design of this place is a mix of country home and industrial with a color scheme of navy blue, copper and cream. The walls are decorated with old timey portraits and art work featuring animal caricatures who stand sand upright, dress very dapper while playing instruments or strutting their stuff- or BOTH! This isn't a family joint. This more of a happy hour lounge joint. In addition to the indoor seating, there's a covered patio style seating section with a view of adjacent outdoor department stores. The sound system is good and it immediately makes you feel as tho you're in a bar. TV screens are present but are a far distance from the bar which tells me this place isn't meant to be a sports bar destination but if you wanted to glance up and see some action, you can do so. Let's talk food! We started with appetizers which can be found in the SHARE section of the menu. We ordered Shishitos & Shrooms ($8): tempura style, fresh cilantro & siracha dipping sauce. And we ordered Honey Fried Chicken which is cayenne crusted with honey glaze. Shishitos & Shrooms were delicious and no where near as hot as I thought. The Honey Friend Chicken as fantastic as well. The cayenne crust was crispy and flavorful. I definitely recommend these two appetizers. For the main course, TX Wagyu Beef ($19) and the Bacon Burger ($13). I didn't know what Wagyu Beef was until I googled it. The meat isn't frozen. It's handled fresh and I believe it was a hybrid beef. 50% Wagyu. This cut of beef was tender with a medium center and was FANTASTIC!!! Not too salty, not to much pepper. Just right for my taste. The Bacon burger was good as well. This was my first egg bun and I enjoyed the light texture. Definitely a good atmosphere with an eclectic menu. Overall experience was good. Food was good- not amazing. I've been coming to GP for years for their famous $3,$4,$5 happy hour! But this time I came in and ordered the same thing I always drink, vodka soda with a lime. I added a splash of cranberry juice this time. We get the tab and all of my drinks are $7, when they should be $3 per the "happy hour". I was told by my bartender the happy hour is everything is $3 during 3pm hours besides top shelf, and no shots. So when I saw my tab with all drinks at $7 I was confused. I asked the bartender why this was and he said because i didn't order a "cocktail" on their menu. For example they have ranch waters on their menu. I'm a bartender and I know ranch water is spirt-soda water-lime. I ordered vodka soda lime with a splash of cran. So what that looks like is I'm paying $4 extra for a splash of cranberry. My friend ordered vodka sprite, so that looks like $4 up charge for sprite off of the gun. Same pour of alcohol so I was confused how they'd even be missing out on money? I asked to speak to a manager and the manager says that I've been misinformed about what the happy hour is supposed to be... even tho I've been coming here for years and it's always been the way I explained above... he asked me for my servers names and I told him I didn't want to get anyone in trouble but maybe to get the staff all on the same page on what the happy hour actually is if that's the case. I don't ever really have the same server or bartender when I visit so I'm not sure how everyone is giving me the same happy hour prices. He comped $25 off of our bill so I thank him for that, but I won't be returning because it seems this place tries to have their little loopholes to get away with charging people for things because they know most people won't say anything since the location is in a nice area with people who have money to spend. Definitely recommend this place to anyone that is looking to have amazing food, fantastic service, just an all around good vibe. Our server told us that it's only been open for 10 months now, and EVERYTHING on there menu is made from scratch!! No wonder their food taste so great!! I had the pork and greens and my girlfriend had the crab cakes. Both entrées were fantastic. I highly recommend the pork and greens, the bacon aioli on top definitely brought an amazing taste to the dish. The crab cakes were definitely different then crab cakes I've had at other places. These had more crab then cake. Thank God! This is the first place where the crab cakes actually tasted like crab! It comes with a side of roasted sprouts and on top of a base of aioli. The plate was mouth watering to say the least. Over all, I'm definitely making this place a regular spot for me. Update*** This is the 5th or more time I've been here and it doesn't disappoint. Seriously best restaurant in The Rim. Food is amazing, service is is outstanding. You can not go wrong with this place. read more

I recently dined at General Public, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, the wait time for our food was unusually long. This was surprising given the lack of crowd, and it set the tone for the rest of the meal. When the food finally arrived, I was disappointed. I had ordered the Texas Food Month dinner special, and the dish was overwhelmingly seasoned with rosemary, to the point where it overpowered the other flavors. Additionally, the fries were dry and lacked seasoning entirely, making them quite unappetizing. To add to the overall experience, the wait staff seemed inattentive and, at times, came across as somewhat rude. It's always disheartening when service doesn't meet basic expectations, especially when dining out is meant to be an enjoyable experience. While I understand that everyone has off days, this visit to General Public was unfortunately not what I had hoped for. I hope these issues are addressed in the future, as there is potential for a much better dining experience. read more

This is my first Yelp review and there is not a better place that I could think of writing a review for. General Public is nestled away at the RIM. Its location is perfect as you can park in a parking garage, on the street, or in adjacent plazas. This makes it a short walk around the hustle and bustle of the RIM. My fiance and I have been to this restaurant over 10 times and we have never left unsatisfied. The food is incredible. We have always ordered different things and have never been let down. The owner is constantly present. Staff is attentive, friendly, and are well-versed in the menu and beverages. Edith has bartended for us several times and she is incredible. She always remembers that my fiance likes his scotch on the rocks and always keeps it filled. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great happy hour and a fantastic atmosphere. For more than one occasion, I have had the pleasure of visiting The General Public. I'm really big on aesthetic and theirs is right on point! The waiters/bartenders in their jean on jean outfits are so adorable. The calming blue colors and lighting create a quaint atmosphere that really makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. My favorite part, of course, are the drinks. I think the special ingredient in the drinks are the bartender's love!! One in particular is Leah, she is the coolest bartender I have ever met... I told her the types of alcohol I liked and she creatively made me a beautiful drink, I'm talking phenomonal. She is so amazing at her job that the next time I went, she remembered me and asked if I wanted "MY drink". That is what I call exceptional service! Okay, I have to admit, I was pretty surprised with how impressed I was with this place. However, a few friends recommended we take a night out to this bar/restaurant and I agreed to give it a shot. The atmosphere is phenomenal. The bar takes up about half the inside area but it's classy and really stunning. We decided to get a table. Service was great, our waitress was lovely and very attentive throughout the night. Now onto drinks, I had some gin specialty cocktail with mint and basil which was to die for. Don't quite remember the others too well but they were all great. Onto food, we had the crab hushpuppies and peppers & mushrooms per our waitress' recommendation. Amazing!!!! Usually I don't do these things, but I seriously never had a server do this to my mother. First off my mother has Pre-Alzheimer's disease, and she had a hard time picking things and making up her mind, because she's beginning to forgot things. Andres, literally sat down with my mother and explained everything on the menu to her. Everything and did it more than once because she kept forgetting. Later to find out that his grandma is in the late stages of it, so he understands what was happening. But, I seriously haven't seen a server do that before and have that much patience and kindness before. The food was outstanding too by the way. The crab cakes have so much crab in them!! Our waiter seemed to forget about us, and we had to ask another staff member to find him when it was time to pay. The food was a mixed experience. The crispy chicken sandwich was flavorful, warm, and toasty, with a side of fries I couldn't complain about. However, the chicken apple club fell flat--cold despite being toasted, and the thick apple slices were too much. The highlight was the crispy empanadas: perfectly crunchy, easy to eat, and filled with delicious potatoes and meat. We came across a restaurant/bar and just needed a little A/C. We walked into a nice looking place with and got a warm welcome. Came here late Friday night for a few drinks and food. We had never been here this late so we ended up getting what they call their "late night menu", which is just pizza. This pizza is amazing!! The flavor was phenomenal and the crust is to die for. The hostess Karen greeted us at the door with a smile and sat us quickly. Our server Cat was super sweet and got our drinks pretty quick. Coincidentally went into this restaurant during their happy hour, which takes place any day before 5PM, and was delighted to find that most of their alcoholic beverages were only $4. They offer a lovely variety of crafted cocktails and wine by the glass, as well as different whiskeys. I ordered a mezcal mule and it was an original cocktail. Their food menu, although not extensive, does offer some intriguing options such as a bone marrow appetizer and a quail dish. The only thing lacking might've been the customer service. This place is very hip and cool. The Brunch was hopping. They also have a GREAT happy hour everything on the menu is $3 @ 3pm $4 @4pm and $5 @ 5pm CRAZY WE WILL BE BACK FOR THAT. We really enjoyed our meal. But the Werks is not a burger place. Their menu is impressive. There is something for everyone. Steaks, rib eye, fish, pasta, pizza, salads and a great list of sandwiches. I had a strawberry margarita, which was sweet and delicious, just the way I like it! One of my guests ordered a blueberry mixed drink, but they were accidentally served a peach drink. We notified the server immediately, and when he returned, it was the same drink with no straw or cherry. He mentioned the bartender had added blueberry mix into the peach drink rather than bringing the correct one. That felt odd and inconsiderate. If the drink couldn't be swapped or refunded, it would have been much better to simply be informed instead of receiving this unusual workaround. For my meal, I ordered the ribeye steak with asparagus and mashed potatoes as usual. Disappointingly, the entire plate felt bland. The seasoning was minimal, and it didn't taste like the Stone Werks meals I know and love. Steak and mashed potatoes should be a guaranteed win, especially for this restaurant. On the bright side, the calamari was perfect, crispy and flavorful. I'll still be visiting this location because I genuinely enjoy the restaurant. Hopefully this was just an off day, and things will be back to their usual high standard next time.

We visited this establishment several times and likely would have become regulars if not for a few…read moreconcerns. First, the glassware is cleaned using a 3-dunk system where the final rinse is sanitizer rather than clean water (see images). I react to sanitizer residue on glasses, and, as an MD, I assure you that any exposure is detrimental to your GI microbiome. We politely asked whether the glasses could simply be rinsed and dried before serving but were told this would only be possible during slower periods. As a workaround, we began bringing our own glasses. Second, the bar staff assured us their pours were standard 16 oz pints. To avoid confusion, we marked our glasses at the 16 oz line. On a later visit, the owner's daughter (whose approach to customer service was unnecessarily confrontational) stormed over and informed us in a rude tone that their glasses were actually 14 oz "shakers," not pints. She then poured the beers well below 14 oz. After measuring the remaining volume at home, the pour was close to 10 oz. We own 14 oz beer glasses, and to receive true 14 oz, the glass would need to be filled to the rim, which obviously is not how beers are served. In practice, customers are receiving roughly 10 oz pours for $7 - excessive and misleading, especially when places like Yard House serve actual pints for $5.49 in properly dishwasher-cleaned glassware. Regarding the food, everything is supplied by Sysco, and nothing is made in-house. It is served on plastic or aluminum trays. Overall, the combination of lack of properly clean glassware -- which is the bare minimum an establishment charging premium prices should provide -- deceptive pour sizes, and the dismissive handling of legitimate customer concerns left us very disappointed. We won't be returning.
