Found this little eatery on Yelp after I typed "vegetarian" in the search bar. Not everything here is vegetarian but there are several options that are. The place itself has some outdated decorations, such as flowered table tops that remind you of an old grandma. None of the less, this place has some regulars, as I heard several customers saying bye to the workers at the cash register by their first names. For lunch, I had the: Tofu artichoke hearts burrito (marinated tofu, avocado, cheese, and tomatoes): $6.79 This was just OK. I know, this sounds so boring writing this. There was a bit too much melted cheese and I wish the tomatoes were diced. (2.5 stars) Vegetable lentil soup: This was just okay. I do love me some lentils and my veggies, but something about this soup was lackluster. I have been going to this restaurant since the late 1980's when I would take my now 35 yr old daughter there after school. She has always and still loves their chicken salad salad. The neato burrito is great, the twice baked potato, the steamed vegetables with chicken, the egg salad sandwich, the avocado sandwich, the tuna salad sandwich, the vegan burger.. All great. Everything is fresh, healthy and tastes great. Why do people have to write such stupid and mean reviews? So what if they have some boxes? I am grateful as I place large orders and appreciate the boxes they place my order in so my soup and and drinks don't leak in bags like other places. So what if they don't have new furniture? I found my new lunch hot-spot. I'm new to the Orange County area so finding a place to eat is not an easy task. Fast-food is not a good thing in my industry of working with teenagers - I need food that will fill my stomach and give me energy without making me feel drowsy by mid-afternoon. And so, I found - well, I was directed to - Natural Kitchen. It's healthy grubbing at this hole-in the wall "hot spot." It's very popular among the locals, and either its the personal customer service or it's the history of this place that allows those behind the counter to refer to (and recognize) its customers on a first-name basis. I was hesitant to walk in, it literally looks like a kitchen with its pink cloth round tables, serving food on top of aged trays. But, you know what, with that aside I enjoyed my Turkey Delight. For about $7 I got a finely chopped turkey folded with celery, onions, and alfalfa sprouts, topped with fresh tomato, served with sweet raisin bread. Plus, healthy (not creamy) brocolli potatoe cheese soup and tortilla chips with salsa. I haven't had a fabulous sandwich like this since...Zlakets (oh, another Yelp review that's due). This place has character. If you are local, you can call-in your order and pick-up. There's plenty of parking, a few tables to move together or separate, and because the meals are made fresh, you may have to wait a few minutes, but not too long. We are always looking for something healthy and good for us. Well, this is the place! The Turkey Delight on raisin bread with cranberries is delicious. Also, had the Cashew Chicken on Dark Wheat. Not a good experience at all. You walk into a place where the front end cashier/order taker is an older arrogant Asian woman who doesn't know the word etiquette. She only smiles and says thank you and your welcome if it is a customer that comes in frequently. Otherwise, your presence seems to offend her. The fact that they have boxes and old restaurant freezers piled up in the corners. Place is so trashy is disgusts me. Then the food, my goodness, the food. The bread they use is obviously from the 99 Cent Store. I can make better dishes in the kitchen of my work with limited resources. Not expensive food, but obviously there is a reason for that. You pay for what you get. And what you pay for here is as if they bought out the 99 Cent store and threw it all together & served up on a plastic plate with crappy customer service and below par food. The food was uninspired and disappointing - not horrible, just "meh". We had the vegetarian lasagna with vegetarian chili. Lasagna was likely made ahead and frozen - flavors were a bit bland. The main problem is that the restaurant needs a make over. From the handwritten signs taped to the walls to the chipped glass on the tables that are repaired with blue painters tape, it's just not a very appetizing environment. The back dining area is covered with old empty cardboard boxes and there's a non functional counter/cooler, which gives it a storage unit/abandoned building feel. I was really hoping to find another cool plant based restaurant - but this is not one I would go out of my way to go to again. If the owners could make it over and revamp the menu it could be a great little spot given the location. So much potential. read more

I love the quality of food of this place. Always fresh. Always good. Appearances are deceiving. If you want to eat something healthy, light, and tasty, then this is the place for you! I love their chicken cashew salad and tuna salad; both options available on a sandwich or a salad. Their home-made iced tea is very refreshing as well! Stopped by here for lunch the other day just to try out this little place. Granted, the decor is a little outdated, but then again, the place looks like the ugly stepchild of the Kardashians. It seems like the older Asian couple runs this place and I can respect their hustle. Anyways, ordered the tofu and avocado sandwich with orange/carrot juice. The tofu had a soy based marinade that was sweet and tangy. Perfect pairing for a minimal sandwich. The tortilla chips and salsa is a very interesting addition, but who doesn't like chips and salsa?? Wow. It's like they don't want your business here. Not only did it look sad and depressing inside (which is a bit of a surprise when you juxtapose their interior against the beautiful renovations done throughout the shopping center), but they had the most unfriendly woman working the counter. She was standing in the kitchen, saw us walk in and seemed bothered by the fact that she had to leave whatever she was doing to greet us. I said, "Hi," with a big smile, "This is our first time here, my wife and I are vegan, what sort of options are there?" She said, "Vegan burger", pointed to it on the menu, then walked away. We couldn't even stay to try the food - I know it sounds snobbish, but my wife and I both come from the service industry, we were just so blown away by how rude she was. It was a Saturday afternoon, you'd think they would have a little friendlier of staff working on a day where many people branch out and try new places. The previous reviews are all over the map, and I agree. This place is VERY hit or miss. I'm vegan so I appreciate places that give a sh*t about labeling things. I love the vegan burger, it's a homemade nut patty with avocado and hummus. No frozen boca-burger BS here. Lentil soup is a hit. Tofu avocado sandwhich is a MISS. Cold tofu, broccoli slaw and teriyaki sauce was a weird combo. They do shop at Smart and Final, I also have spotted an employee coming in with groceries. At least that's a lower carbon footprint?? Iced tea is great. The interior of this place is indeed an embarassing mess. The corner "market" area and bathroom looks like the owner is a hoarder. I have been to The Greenery Natural Kitchen several times and felt it was necessary to write a review because of how much I enjoy their food! First and foremost The Greenery Natural Kitchen is a family owned business and you will always be greeted by one of the owners. They are friendly and helpful when trying to decided what to order. I always order the same dish because I just LOVE it but there are many other dishes that my friends order which are equally delicious. My favorite dish is the Neat-o Burrito which does not have any meat but rather they use ground nuts and bean for protein as well as many other fresh ingredients. This dish comes with a soup or salad. I used to order the lentil soup which is delicious but a friend of mine suggested the potato soup and I have never looked back. This soup is light, slightly creamy but also addictive and delicious! Overall, I visit The Greenery Natural Kitchen at least twice a month and have always been pleased with their service. The ambience is not the most desirable but then again, I'm not trying to dine at a five star restaurant during my lunch break. The pricing is good and the food is consistent. We love love loved this restaurant while I worked at the Bookman. I believe the lunch crew still goes, but not as often as when I was there advocating for it nearly everyday. The only thing I wish is that they would put more vegan options on the menu. My favorite sandwich was always the avocado sandwich, but now that I've gone vegan, I'd have to leave off the mayo and cheese. And I don't like dry sammiches. I love my creamy dressings! The atmosphere inside is pretty shitty. Everything seems old and dusty. I usually take my food to go. Their menus and signs are just printed out on paper, nothing fancy. They don't have a soda fountain but they do sell cans of soda, vitamin waters, and snapple. I don't like curry and they use it in a lot of their stuff (hummus, veggie patties, etc.) so you gotta be careful. I came here because the title made it sound like it was going to be super healthy and organic and all that other basic-ness. I walk in and the first thing it reminds me of a rinky dinky antique store... the menus are all over the place so you're having to do a scavenger hunt to get an idea. I ordered a grilled chicken-breast salad. It advertised as "freshly baked chicken breast, mixed greens, sliced eggs, tomatoes, avocado, and cheese" I'm a chicken person. I know my types of chicken. This was not fresh nor bakes. It was boiled chicken that was reheated. "Mixed greens" was mostly lettuce elbow (the crunchy part). In my past experiences, mixed greens includes spinach, arugula, and the darker leafy. Not neon green/yellow lettuce. I came by here recently because I was picking up something from a fellow cat rescuer & also had to pick up my father at the Hyundai stealership. Lately, I haven't been very good with meal prepping or eating regularly, so I've been getting something to eat when my stomach is done and insane. Very smart, I know. I forgot to ask if they used dairy in their sauces but I think I was spared, because there was no immediate need to rush to the toilet. I was in the area and I spotted this place and decided to check out the menu. They had a menu on their window and I saw my favorite dish on their menu which was the spinach and broccoli lasagna. I was hungry and so I decided to order the lasagna. My order came with a choice of soup or salad. I decided to get the chicken, vegetable and brown rice soup. My food was delicious. The lasagna was healthy and enjoyable. The soup was soothing and tasty. The wait time was minimal and my order was ready shortly. The interior is nice and clean and there is plenty of seating inside of the restaurant. The service was fast and friendly and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I had a couple questions about the items on their menu and the worker was able to assist me in a friendly and patient manner. I would recommend this place if you are in the area. I'm really disappointed in the reviews I've read on the Greenery Natural Kitchen in Orange, here on Yelp. Deducting 2 stars because the decor is outdated.... really? I discovered The Greenery 20 years ago when my office relocated to the building across the street from the restaurant. My boss and I discovered this small but busy little place by mistake and fell in love with the owners and the food. Everything on the menu is healthy, delicious, hearty, and homey. It's, like, the healthy comfort food place to go! I usually call ahead so that my food is ready when I arrive, a good tip for you working stiff's out there who only have an hour or less to be back at your desk once you've clocked out for lunch.
