The grove was a great restaurant with a fine dining vibe without the fine dining price. At a traditional steakhouse you spend way more adding sides to every entree. The grove's entrees all come with sides so you don't have to add any. We had the jalapeño pork meatballs and ricotta gnudi for appetizers. They were excellent. For entrees we had pappardelle with braised beef short rib, the filet mignon, the pescado a la playa, and the seafood linguini puttanesca. Everyone loved their dishes. Entrees were reasonable, many $15-19 if you are on a budget. The steak is more but there is a 4 oz option for only $19. Quality is good but not as great as Pappas or Eddie Vs as far as steak and seafood respectively, but its far cheaper and a great price for the quality. read more

Good place, nothing to complain about. The staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was casual.. What I liked most was sitting against the windows and seeing the 100 year old oak trees.. We didn't have any appetizers, but we wanted light to medium plates. I had the Chicken and JC Rice bowl. It is chicken mixed with rice and veggies topped with a fried egg. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. Located near the Convention Center it offers "something different" for people who eat out too much. The location on Discovery Green gives the place its name. Situated among trees on the park it is hard to think you are downtown. They have a rooftop garden that supplies some of their herbs and vegetables though I cannot certify the amount of that. Regardless you need to save room for dessert. 3.5 stars on our 1st visit Burning Tree had a touch of sweetness and was very refreshing. Ginger Margarita wasn't as spicy as the Serrano ingredient would lead you to believe. A little sweet even. Cheese Plate was minimal but had nice cheeses that we'll look for at Dairy Maids such as Red Hawk and Scharffe Max. There was plenty of onion jam and it overwhelmed the plate. Very little honey or other condiments though. All about the onion. For the price I would've liked to have seen them throw a couple of grapes or blueberries our way. And the pita crisps were way too hard and certainly not worth the effort. Would appreciate some regular crackers instead. Restaurant was lovely at night and we plan to try it for brunch soon. read more

Came here with family to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we had a great time. We were a bit late getting to our reservation, but they seated the guests as they arrived as well as received my husband's cakes when they were delivered. Our waiter was very patient and informative about the menu and wine choices/pairings. We ordered an array of food ranging from curried butternut squash soup to various types of grilled fish. The grilled fish in parchment was quite meaty and well cooked. Mostly, we all loved the ambiance of The Grove and great views of Discovery Green. Oh, and another note, I really appreciated that the valet was not ridiculously expensive (only $8), and they even backed our SUV out so that we wouldn't have to maneuver that thing around in such a small area. Came here while in Houston for a conference that was right across the street from the Discovery Green. The Grove is super cute and has great views of the green and has a really awesome lunch spot. I sat at a cozy little table on such a perfect sunny day and enjoyed the fish fritters and the Ahi Poke Tuna salad. Like some reviewers were saying, the food was OK. Nothing I'm dreaming about or worth dying to have again. However the service was impeccable; my waiter checked on me the perfect number of times (which never happens), and the ambience and the view were super relaxing and v Texas. Not very friendly hostess. Jesus the manager does not hold these guys accountable. They have the regulars but the new to the restaurant goers are left wondering when the server will come. Or if someone will fix the wobbly table or offer a starter drink. It shouldn't take 10 minutes plus for someone to acknowledge. This was my second visit to The Grove and it's been a great experience both times. We originally had a reservation at another restaurant in the area. After arriving and not being able to be seated because somehow they didn't see my reservation even though I had a confirmation text, I called over to The Grove because I realized it was in walking distance. Mind you we were celebrating my sister's birthday so I was holding a huge Nothing Bunt Cake on a ceramic pedestal! Anyway they were able to seat us and basically saved the day! Got invited out by a software vendor one evening. When I got the invite and Yelped the location, I have to admit, I wasn't terribly looking forward to the night. I was pleasantly proven wrong. The photos and menu didn't look all that inspired. Not that I'm looking for a Michelin Star joint (I'm actually more of a greasy spoon kind of guy as long as the food is stellar). This place, the quail, was stellar. Before we get to the quail, let's start with the bravery of offering deviled eggs for apps. I mean, who does deviled eggs and puts them in the menu? Bold. Bold, and super tasty. We also had the tuna crudo as well. Nice enough, but will leave it at that. Now...the star of the evening...the stuffed quail. It was offered on the "small bites" menu, but let me assure you it's enough for a meal unless you're Hungry-Man-Jack in the flesh. It's a Texas smoked stuffed quail, served in a bed of ettoufee. It. Was. Divine. It's been a lot time since I was served something I had to consciously control myself to not devour, one of my fingers and all, the entire plate. The quail was perfectly cooked, tender, and the stuffing and ettoufee was a sublime accompaniment. Get it. Get it NOW! For dessert, I ordered the affogato, which you also don't find on menus very often. I'm sure my server thought I was a barbarian to eat the dessert without dousing the ice cream with the espresso. But hey, I'm unconventional. The tradition is good, but so is enjoying all the different elements individually. The flavors are strong enough for each element to have spirits of spoonfuls pass haunt and blend in with the spoonfuls to come. We had a great lunch at the Grove. It was a group meeting, and they'd prepared a selection of items for us to choose from. Here's what I tried: -Soup of the day: I'm not exactly sure what it was called, but it was like a gumbo but with beef. Nothing crazy amazing, but I liked it. -Salmon: Like the soup, the salmon was good but nothing crazy. What I really liked was the roasted cauliflower that was served with it. -Butterfinger dessert: SO GOOD. This dish was my favorite part of the meal. It's hard to describe, as there were so many different components, but it was dark chocolate gelato, chocolate cake, chocolate cream, some crunchiness butterfinger-like flakes, so good. We had our lunch in a glass room off of the main dining room. It was a pretty room, but, even with the glass doors closed, it was a little loud. read more

I ordered the soup of the day (Vegetable Stew w/ Parmesan broth) to start and was satisfied and knew everything else had to be just as tasty. This is a nice restaurant. The decor is super nice inside, we opted for outside seating though. The menu has a few choices in each category (app, salad, sandwich, entre). This is a seafood restaurant, so check ahead of you're not busy into fish. They have a couple of options that do not have seafood. I really wanted to try their happy hour but it is from 1-5pm which is more like a late lunch and afternoon snack time. A bit unrealistic to make in the downtown area especially since more people are off around 4-5. Overall it was an ok, outdoor seating is great on a nice day. read more

The bread/butter was to die for...I should have just eaten that (I did have to pay $5 for it after all, I mean seriously, charging for pre-meal bread?). It was just too expensive. Valentine's dinner special only: $100 per couple and did not disappoint. Parking can be a bit hard to find if you don't want to pay or do valet. The restaurant is located in Discovery green, very scenery. The inside of the Grove is absolutely gorgeous, we made a reservation and got seated right away. Service was great, our waiter came and checked up on us quite frequently. Our meals, we had steak and lobster which is the picture below. Let me just say that the dish is shared between two people, it was enough for the both of us. The steak was flavorful, juicy and, tender. The lobster was to die for! The salad was very refreshing and crisp. The only thing that's keeping me from rating it a 5/5 was the dessert. I'm not a great fudge lover, and even if I was I think that they should've balanced the dessert better. The whole thing was fudge! I could only handle 3 spoonfuls, the rest went to waste. Very upscale and in a nice location. I went here for a birthday dinner and ordered the blue crab mac & cheese which was wonderful. I felt our waiter was a bit aggressive and not personal or friendly. He kind of just told us how things were going to go and zoomed by each time we needed something. This place is on the more expensive side because it's classy, the menu is straight forward and nothing really comes with sides. I think it's a nice place to go for date night. I give it 4 stars and not 5 because of the limited menu and service. I also rate is high because of the cleanliness, and upscale environment. The venue was upstairs and in the evening which was a beautiful ambiance with all the string lighting throughout the balcony which overlooks downtown. The service was the best, hands down. The entrees were really good, especially the potatoes with smoked thick bacon or pork on top. I was happy with everything overall, so much so I'll have to go experience this place again. This is a awesome place for venues such as a wedding and surprisingly a lot of room. There is outdoor and indoor seating plus a dance floor or could be a ballroom...just many possibilities. They had valet parking for $9, but it was packed at 6:30 on a Saturday. There's a paid parking lot directly across the street, which was $20 but it is downtown and there was a festival and other events so of course lot owners are going to increase the parking lot cost (rolling eyes emoji). read more
