Finally tried this place! Me and my girlfriend drive by this place all the time and she's always asking me if I've tried it. Never have I tried this place, recently we went and I loved it! I'm a fan of the shredded lettuce they use as well; sometimes the usual burger places with those huge sizes of lettuce pieces that I always end up removing. The order was enormous and more than enough to fill me up, leaving me in a food coma. Throughout the years, I actually hadn't been back until recently. I came on a weekday during lunch and didn't have to wait long at all, and finding a table wasn't an issue as the restaurant is actually quite huge with plenty of seating. Because it's such an icon in the neighborhood I believe it deserves a 5-star. It's not the flashy/instagram-worthy type of spot that a lot of the new restaurants are, but it is a reliable oldie that locals can count on to deliver time and time again when you have those late-night munchies and need to satisfy it right away. While we waited for our order we stocked up on Jalapenos, condiments, paper plates, napkins, and forks to ready ourselves for our feast back at work. The order came quickly and as soon as we brought it back I had to admire the CHILI STEAMING out of our tray as I pulled back the wax paper wrapping. The smell of the OIL of THICK CUT FRIES wafts up my nose along with the CHEESE and CHILI...they bring back memories of many feastings of years past. Yup, coming to The Hat was like going fine dining for me back in the high school years because their sandwiches are a little on the pricey side. Now, fast forward ten-twenty years, the price might have went up a little over the years, but the quality is still there. The perks of growing up is that you no longer need to eat the entire Pastrami Dip plus half order of the fries in order to be "full". I now have to bring a dining buddy and persuade them to split the sandwich with me. I love the location in Rancho Cucamonga and this was my first time at this location. We got here around 7 pm on a Sunday night and it was not too busy. I drive past this place everyday on the way to work but have never been. Today a friend told me about it the oversized portions and grease bomb, so naturally I had to give it a shot. I ordered the pastrami dip and chili cheese fries. Classic. They gave me two forks. Lol. Anywho, the pastrami sandwich was pretty good. The bread is chewy and it comes with mustard and pickles, which is a nice complement to the pastrami. The chili fries are massive and are caked with chili snd cheese. "World Famous" may be puffery, but their pastrami is definitely quite good. In addition to The Hat's burgers, I am a big fan of their onion rings and potato salad. Pricing is affordable and fair, considering the quantity and quality of food. The staff here is easy enough to deal with. Some are friendlier than others, but they all get the job done. The customer seating is all rigidly uncomfortable. Getting your food to go is probably the best move here. I think the neatest thing about this place is the self-serve row of condiments. You can grab as many packets of ketchup, mustard, relish, horseradish, etc. that you would like. That alone makes this place a step up from your typical franchise burger joint (most of whom tend to be stingy about such things). read more

Oh boy, inflation is no joke! For 2 pastrami dips and a chili cheese fries, it came out to be $30. I haven't been here in a while, but I don't remember paying this much for fast food. In any case, I still thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich because the pastrami craving was real and this totally took care of that. Clean establishment with someone ready to take your order the moment you walk in. ( I recommend ordering inside for to-go than waiting in the long drive thru). Although I was the only one who was waiting on my order inside, there were still many people ordering from the drive thru, so the wait was approx. 15 min. They have conveyor line of workers putting together your order, so I'm happy that the effort is there. Lot of condiments to choose from inside as well Pastrami dip: large, packed and meaty, sandwiched in between a mustard covered French bun. I think you can ask for sourdough or wheat instead. Chili cheese fries: HUGE portion. I wish there was more chili. And I recommend throwing ketsup and thousand island dressing ( available as a condiment!) on top and boom! The chili cheese fries are a staple when coming to The Hat. They can feed about 3-4 people and fill them up! Came here last night with the bf and once again, we ordered the chili cheese fries (if you order with pastrami it's about five dollars more ... and honestly, I don't think the amount given - since we ordered it on the side - is worth it). The fries are the thick kinds and it comes in a huge portion. They load the fries on a small little red and white paper tray before placing that in a to-go four cup drink take-out carton and piling cheese and chili on top of the fries. I can just feel the calories entering my body after eating a few of the fries. But they're so delicious! Anyway, I thought the chili didn't taste as good as it usually does. There wasn't enough flavor and spice in the chili, so it tasted a bit bland. I usually get tons of ketchup and buttermilk ranch packets and just dip the fries in the condiments, which is what I had to do yesterday. The tuna sandwich is also pretty good, but it's a sandwich you can make at home. They give you two slices of the bread of your choice (wheat, white, rye) and load it with tuna, lettuce, and tomatoes. It's good, but nothing special. I've tried the ham and cheese sandwich before, and that's pretty good as well, but like I've said, nothing special. An original spot is located on Garfield and Valley in Alhambra. My closest location is on Rosemead which is located in the city of Temple City. No different menu, no different taste, and great fast service (according to peak hours of course). I recommend regular fries with a side of gravy for dipping. This Hat location has an indoor seating area that is very clean and comfortable. Came late with my group of guy friends to get our favorite dish, chili cheese fries with onions. We just buy a bunch and share them. They are very big and would recommend four people per order and if you are eating pretty much for dinner, you can have two people share one order.
