This is the best pet friendly restaurant in Boise. The food is amazing and the ambiance is phenomenal. We got the turkey and brie sandwich, fish tacos, the pretzel and blackberry cobbler. All of it was absolutely amazing. The pretzel was soft with the right amount of crunch on the exterior. Fish tacos were cooked perfectly so the fish was full of flavor and not dry. The turkey and brie was amazing with their blueberry compote. And the blackberry cobbler was to die for. Not too sweet and not too heavy. We also got their doggie dinner which consisted of ground turkey, brown rice and veggies. The pup loved every bite! And the staff was amazing. They brought out treats for the dog, there were lots of pets and smiles for her, and our service was spectacular. We couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience all and all with the great folks of The Local. We will definitely be making this a regular spot. read more

We absolutely love the local! We take our kids there at least once a week and enjoy the BLT, French dip, and just about everything else on the menu. The Local is one of my favorite spots to grab a glass of wine and light bites with friends. With a wine list that offers a variety of whites, sparkling, rosé, and reds--there is a wine to suit any palette. Wine not your thing? No problem. They also offer 8 rotating beers on tap (with a focus on local, or at the very least regional, northwestern beers) to choose from. As far as eats, at lunchtime (11:30am-3pm) they offer a variety of sandwiches and salads. During the evening hours, they have a menu consisting of a myriad of tapas. My favorite menu items are the cheese board, charcuterie board, and their Bavarian style house made pretzel. Wonderful wines, local beers, and tasty bites--what more could one desire? A kickin' patio, that's what. The Local has a charming, fully fenced patio. Nestled behind a wood fence topped with hanging flowers, you'll forget that busy State street lies just beyond the parking lot. As their sign says, wine--beer--nosh... Get to it! read more

What a delicious experience to find so close to the Greenbelt! Hey, some people bike for fitness, I just want to feel righteous while looking for a place to eat and drink. The Local is a wonderful find! They don't open until two, so you won't be going there for lunch, but you should be going here!! They have local brews rotating on taps, so it'll be fun to come back again and again to see what's new. They have a good selection of wines, wonderful ladies running the kitchen and bar, and a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Love this place! I was so excited when I saw a place to grab drinks was opening up within walking distance to my house and am pleasantly surprised with what it has become. I've checked it out a couple of times now and it's improved even since the first visit. This is the perfect place to go on a date, grab a drink with a girlfriend, or a group of friends. I love the ambiance- very relaxing, modern lounge - like feel. No tvs, sorry guys, I love it though, you have to pay attention to your date! Their menu has improved a lot and includes a good variety of appetizers and small plates. I had the chili today and it was so delicious, a southwestern style with a delicious pulled pork meat on top. I also love their drink selection, they always keep a great variety on hand including many local brews and wines. Their patio that opened this summer is a wonderful addition to the place! came in for lunch. you can kind of tell this is not a lunch spot. it feels like a dinner and drinks spot. it was so dark and moody in there I loved the ambiance and the decor but maybe not for 11:30 AM on a wednesday. our server seemed annoyed to be there. he wasn't very friendly, nor was he attentive- considering we were the only customers he had- we had to flag him down for everything. I got the combo lunch- had the chicken tortilla soup, the brie turkey sandwich, and it comes with a salad. not bad for $8-10. they only have one salad dressing- a balsamic based- so don't ask for anything else. my dining mate got the BLT (boring), the baked potato soup- which she said was bland and tasted like blended mashed potatoes, and the same salad. I liked the sandwich- it had a fig jam on it and brie. it was good. the tortilla soup was not very good. it was brothy and didn't have a lot of flavor. I didn't finish it. I also didn't finish the salad because it was 90% mixed greens. boring. I think I will come back for the drinks and the live music I guess they have at night. that would be fun! but I won't be back for lunch again. read more

I met the chef at a local coffee shop and he told me about his restaurant so I checked it out and I was not disappointed! They have great gluten free options and the food was very good! What a fun place nice atmosphere and we didn't feel rushed to leave. We tried the French Dip, Flat Bread and Mac-N-Cheese all were fantastic. Mac-N-Cheese was the creamiest I've ever had. Had a wonderful experience here this evening. Sat on the patio and my friend and I ordered the shrimp cakes as well as two turkey brie sandwiches. YUM! Both were delicious, as well as their garden vegetable soup. Our server, Jim, was absolutely superb and made sure we were always taken care of and happy. This place is so cute, I can't believe I hadn't been before! We went on a Tuesday evening and they had lovely live music which was a pleasant surprise. Their wine list is extensive, I had an amazing Rosè by Angels & Cowboys. The food (or Nosh as they call it) is really good! The house-made cheese sauce on their nachos is soooo yummy! We stopped by on our way up north. We love wine bars. I was disappointed and would not go back next year. I did not see most of the items they put in the pictures. No crab cakes or ribs. I got the French Dip. It was mostly bread. The taste of meat off. I can't place it. I like that the place was clean, decorations & music. The server had no personality. She was not helpful or friendly. They were not busy. Two other tables there while we were. Service & food slow. Food over priced for portion size. I liked art work. My biggest problem was I asked server why "Local" wine bar did not offer WA & ID wines by bottle on their display? Since those wines would be local. She is a smart ass reply said because ID wines are to expensive to put on the 10.00 display. Of course, that is a big fat lie that all ID wines are expensive. I never said what my price range was. The Local could of put expensive local wines on the top shelf. I let it go. The next place we stopped at had 8.99 for ID wine at the Elk Farm of all places. She clearly did not know what she is talking about. She did not offer off the menu to sell us any wines over 10.00 that were from the state. She did not re fill our water glasses. I absolutely love this place. I used to live right down the road but a couple of months ago I had to move to be nearer to the school. No matter where I live in Boise I will make time to come here. The food is great, the atmosphere is lovely and the staff is very attentive and sincere. The people of Boise really need to start supporting small businesses such as this one.
