I've never had a bad meal here, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. The ambience is clean and modern, with the feel of an upscale diner. The food is always fresh and they have a nice variety. Lots to choose from on the breakfast and dinner menu to suit anyone. Ingredients are fresh and the service is generally top-notch. I've never had to wait long for a meal, although, they have been short staffed a few times, but they made up for it and tried to hustle as best they could. The hubs told me about this spot being a must try after coming to the soft opening. So we came by. You order food first, take a seat, and wait on the food and drinks. While waiting I noticed all the rustic decor, exposed brick, and an interesting ceiling. The back patio looks promising. The staff was really helpful and always busy. The hubs had the chicken and the egg. He said it was good. Chicken was breaded & fried and came with home fries. I had the veggie egg sandwich and that was really good with their aioli sauce. The sandwich was filled with 2 eggs, portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, fresh spring mix, muenster cheese and basil aioli on a ciabatta. The Loca is a must try. The ambience and quality of our Sunday brunch dishes were good. We did have a complaint from one of my family member. The observation was the server did not return with more coffee on hand to offer a refill. We received our plates, with some discrepancies. First order did not include the side of ranch dressing for the fries. Second, there was an up charge for French fries, instead of home fries. Server should had informed of the said up charge. Third, side of Italian bread was hard as a rock. Diner, asked for a substitute, wheat bread, when arrived came with no butter or jelly. Server should be trained better, communicate with the diner and it could equate to more than a 20% tip. Subpar service is what we experienced. This review should assist the management to effectively train, so future diners do not experience the same. read more

I've had numerous meals at this location and never had anything I didn't like. Most recent I had had a dish called the Penne. Nicely cooked chicken with a Parmesan crust of some sort. It is a very nice layout and neighborhood location. Also has a really nice outdoor patio that I like to spend time in. My favorite server is Danjela. I always request her as the server. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Local. I had the the Portobello Philly which was both hardy and flavorful. My dining partner went with the root salad. It was a huge salad filled with chicken, quinoa and rooted vegetable. The dressing was slightly creamy and very tasty. And I tried a cappuccino made with Bold Bean beans that was a nice way to finish the meal. The service was fast casual where you order first. The staff was friendly and attentive. My roomate took me out to his favorite spot for breakfast this morning. Going in, the place was packed, and because it was raining, we unfortunately were unable to sit out on the porch. However, we didn't have to wait very long to be seated. For breakfast my friend got the breakfast sandwhich and I got the Locale Breakfast plate with over easy eggs and sausage. Moving into my review, the food was incredibly fresh! For starters, I didn't taste my friends sandwhich, but eggs looked super Fluffy and sandwhich possessed a well coated amount of sauce! For the Locale plate, I was shocked as the sausage pasty just melted in your mouth and had fresh flavors (such as the Fennel seeds inside). Eggs were cooked just right, and home fries with it were tiny but Crispy and topped with cajun seasoning. Our server to include, was very friendly despite place being busy. Overall, had a excellent breakfast here. Look forward to trying other items for lunch next time I come around! ;) read more

We came into the The Local for our Bachelor/Bachelorette party for some lunch. When we we're eating we noticed a party outside getting set up. It was raining so they were obviously upset. When the food was dropped off the manager came to the table and asked us to take our food outside if we wanted a $10/ per check off. We politely declined because we did not want to sit in the rain and the cold. After a couple of minutes we were not given a choice and they made us sit outside, while our table was cleared WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING! It was our first time at the Local. We got there about 9:30 and it wasn't busy yet for a Saturday morning. The ambience is very cool. The place was very clean and service was quick. Your order at the counter and they bring you the food. My husband got the steak frites and eggs. He said his steak was perfect and the seasoning on the fries were really good. I got a BLAT and everything was fresh. I got the basil aïoli on the side and it was perfect. We would totally recommend for you to check this place out. The Local popped up on our radar for a few weeks now so we decided to check it out. We came at an awkward time when lunch switched to dinner. I'm not sure if it's changed but lunch is order at the counter and dinner is table service. It was really awkward and I didn't like the way it transitioned especially since there was a counter with a register and a self serve drink area. Besides that, we got a server and we placed our order. There was some mix up where he just dropped off a salad at our table. I thought it came with my pasta but it actually didn't? The server did remove it from our bill when we brought it up, so I'm grateful for that. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich (not very photogenic!) which was okay but was just chicken and bread. We also got the Pasta Miramar which was actually very tasty and a good portion! The bread that came with it was so good too! We got the Bruschetta as an appetizer and it was very good. I don't think anyone can go wrong with bruschetta. Just enough toppings and balsamic vinegar. Overall, it was good food but the way the restaurant set up is confusing. I'd probably keep it all pay at the counter versus switching it to table service at night. read more

So I really like The Local but the customer service was pretty lacking the two times I have been. They're all very friendly but it seems like they kinda wander around without really knowing what to do. Someone asked if we wanted waters because we were through with our coffees and then didn't end up bringing them out to us. Their concept is interesting because they're more of a coffee shop vibe earlier in the day where you order at the counter and more of a sit down restaurant after 4pm. The menu online both on Yelp and the website is really confusing and based on reviews here it seems as though they have desserts and smoothies and things but they weren't on the menu and they didn't have any desserts when we went on a Sunday so we were pretty bummed. Otherwise their drinks are delicious. I ordered a hot Chai latte and I'm pretty picky about my chai and I was wowed. I enjoyed every drop of the spicy sweetness and totally going to order this every time I visit. A couple of my girlfriends ordered salads that made mouth water and I'm so excited to come back and try them! Their dinner menu is delicious! I had a chicken club type sandwich the last time I was here and it was so good! They also have delicious fries. Overall I am a fan of the Local but think they have some kinks to work out. So much time past from the time he brought out the menus, to the time he took our drink order, brought the drinks and then finally took our actual order. The food took FOREVER to get to our table and when we finally got the food... the order was wrong. The food itself was ok. It was edible. It sounded promising... the ingredients and the food combinations sounded good on the menu... but didn't actually taste as good as expected. This place has such a fresh hip vibe you can't help but come here to chill and read a book while getting a bite to eat. From the reviews it seems like this place can be hit and miss and I can see why. I ordered the Enzo sandwich with avocado and chips on the side. The sandwich- arugula, mozzarella, and prosciutto between a baguette was so good! Especially the addition of arugula instead of lettuce, it made the sandwich little more elevated than a normal sandwich you'd get. So now let's talk about the small downsides to my meal. For a $16 sandwich you'd expect to get a huge hearty size, but the sandwich was so small. Also the baguette was a little too hard. I read another comment that had the same problem- makes me think their baguettes aren't as fresh. The chips are also a day old and a little stale; I could tell because I worked at a restaurant that had the same type of chips. Not a big deal. When it comes to dessert I gotta give them some praise for their cake! Omg, their Almond Joy chocolate coconut cake was so delicious! It was so moist and you get a big cut, which was great for sharing. Overall, the food is good and the vibe is great. Just be aware you'll be spending a good bit. This was a fun little spot. Something of a lunch-counter-meets-gastropub atmosphere. Beer and wine only, so no cocktails. I ordered the Steak Frites. Steak came out nicely seared and seasoned. Unfortunately it was rare instead of the medium rare I asked for. Not egregious, and it was still delicious. Fries were crispy and well seasoned. Grilled asparagus was just ok - the thick, fibrous ends at the bottom of the stalks were left on, which wasn't too pleasant but easy to cut around. My wife got the grilled cobia over a shrimp and artichoke cake. Again - flavors were on point. I found the cake to be way too big to make sense with the rest of the dish, and the fish was just a touch overdone. She loved it though. All in all, a few small missteps, but a good experience. This is a staple in the Miramar neighborhood and a great place to meet up with friends. The outdoor space is great if you have a lot of kids in tow, as they can run around and it's usually not too crowded. The food is very very good but on the pricy side. My personal favorite is the fried chicken sandwich! I do wish that they stayed open a bit later and the prices were slightly lower, but overall, a great neighborhood restaurant to grab amazing food. read more

Update: had to drop another star I came in today and ordered the Italiano with lettuce instead of bread as I have ordered at least 3 times before. This is the good: I was given the wrong sandwich (Hot Italian) which was quickly corrected. This was also the first time that I ordered a green goddess sauce on the side and actually got it with my order, so thank you for that. The bad: the lettuce on my sandwich was brown and old. I removed the top two pieces because they were just ridiculous. I kept the bottom two because I thought they were fine. I ended up not eating the sandwich in the store so I took it with me. As I bite into the sandwich, I notice that the other two pieces of lettuce are also old. They're not as bad as the ones I took off in the restaurant, but for the price point of this restaurant, they shouldn't have been on my plate, period. This is after multiple visits, shitty service, and getting served raw chicken. I am over The Local. I keep giving them a chance but, meh. read more

Tried the San Jose location for our brunch date for the month of January! Very inviting once you walk in and everyone I spoke with on the phone to make reservations, was so sweet! The chairs are a little uncomfortable however...butttt that could be because we have big butts and I cannot lie. Most of us started with a cocktail. I started with the Bloody Maria (basically a Bloody Mary but it includes pickle juice). It was pretty good and on the spicy side (which I like). Changed gears and ordered the Espressotini because a friend recommended it. Definitely one of the best ones I've ever had and ordered another because why not, it's a girls brunch and we like to talk. We all tried something different on the menu-Short Rib Hash, Korean Benedict, Chicken Club sandwich and B.L.A.T sandwich. Everything was really good quality and full of flavor! There were a few more things on the menu that I'd like to come back and try out. They also have an extensive coffee menu that I would also like to try more of. I am ashamed to say I did not try out The Local until their $1 breakfast special (reg $3.99) celebrating 1 year. That was a mistake. Walking in the vibe just really hit a cord with me. Very casual, modern, and that whole Starbucks 3rd place feel but on a local level. It would be a good place to have meetings, a little loud but very comfortable. This is another walk up and order spot but one thing I noticed was the floor is packed with employees moving in and out, cleaning tables, serving food. Really active team. Despite the walk up and order, they really remove the self service aspect from it. I ordered the tomato, cream cheese, bacon, spinach, muffin with potatoes. It was a little messy but unbelievably good. I was surprised. I mean it's a breakfast sandwich, right? The potatoes were also perfect. You may notice I review potatoes harshly and can be make or break for me, if I'm going to eat a fried potato it better not be a crinkle fry. Overall a great experience and I plan to head back on Monday for their $10 buger+beer special! read more
