It's one of the main reasons we come here, especially since they don't offer it as an option on take out. It's probably too hard to transport and have it be as fabulous as it is. I got admit, they're pretty delicious. The pizza was good. We got the three meat one this time. It wasn't our favorite. The Marshal's specialty is really their white pizzas, of which they have about two dozen different variations. We probably should have stuck with one of those. Wow this was good food. We kicked off the meal with an array of herb breadsticks with burrata and an assortment of sauces, along with a sumptuous shaved brussel sprout Caesar salad. Both dishes were spot on. Then the sausage and mushroom white pizza, which was loaded high with toppings, was tasty and perfectly grilled. And we practically licked the cast iron skillet the barbecue pork ribs were served in, filled with a sweet, tangy sauce. The team here are really magicians with the brick oven. Finish off the meal with a maple marshmallow s'mores dessert and a bubbling pear cobbler, and I think we had ourselves one of the best dinners of 2023. The servers were all super sweet and attentive, and the ambiance is great for a first date or dinner with a 'cool' set of parents. We will definitely be coming back. read more

This review is for brunch. We had the pleasure of being served by Dawson again, who is a consistently delightful person and so good at his job. I am so mad at myself for not having brunch here earlier. The eggs with pesto and polenta dish is simply incredible! I'm still dreaming about it. The French toast is also very very good. Moving this spot to my top 5 places to eat in NY. When I have friends from out of town I will make a reservation here. Service is super friendly. I've been here 3 times already. Everything we had has been amazing. Duck pizza, beet salad, baby back ribs, and the deviled eggs are the top picks. For dessert get the chilled fudge. Whether a victim or a perpetrator of inflation, this restaurant contributes : 17 bucks for an old fashioned served with 4 big ice cubes, and still not filled, is absurd. Quite good food, but, again, inflated prices. I know the restaurant business is highly competitive and I know inflation is a macroeconomic issue, but nothing I ate nor its spotty service makes me think I'll go back. The last time I wrote a review for The Marshal was about back in 2014. I gave it 5 stars then, and I am happy to give them 5 stars yet again as they continue to impress. After many, many visits, I was saddened when they had to close given the unfortunate times (global pandemic). But, just a short time later, The Marshal, known for their farm-to-table cuisine using all local ingredients, started utilizing their now-unused wood-fired oven for pizza. The other night we tried a classic - a Pepperoni Pizza (and got an extra side of tomato sauce). They've created a fairly large selection for only opening as a gourmet pizza restaurant just in the last week, but that said the pepperoni pizza did not disappoint - full of flavor and freshness. They've got many other varieties, from a few classics and a Smoked Duck pizza to a Chocolate Hazelnut dessert pizza, as well as sides like crispy brussel sprouts, meatballs, and breadsticks. Due of the pandemic, their currently only open takeout and delivery, but that also means they can include wine and beer on their menu....for takeout and delivery! I'm looking forward to trying a few other things on the menu - that's for sure. read more

Love this place! Met Charlie, the owner the first time visiting, which was last Thanksgiving for dinner. Had a FANTASTIC meal and a great glass of NY Riesling. Conversation was awesome with the owner and all the food was great. Visited again with my sister and her wife last weekend. Server could have been friendlier and more attentive. She seemed "distracted" but took our order, etc. the other server, a tall friendly dude was chatting up his tables, so we felt a bit robbed. Sis in law had a scrumptious and juicy burger. The fries with it were also most excellent. I had a beet salad, which was terrific and full of beets and blue cheese. My sister, unfortunately had the cauliflower crust farmers market pizza. She said the parts that weren't burnt were very tasty. Unfortunately it was very thin crust and must have cooked too quickly. I suggested she send it back, but she was a trooper and just enjoyed the pie from about 1-1/2" in from the edge. WOOD FIRED PIZZA - the four cheese version - was delicious today. Loved the fresh oregano & flavor. Lots of cheese, tasted like it just came out of the wood oven. One of the best pizzas in Manhattan. I really wanted to love this place but I have to say it was average for brunch. I made a reservation for my family of 5 for a Sunday around 12:30pm. If you are going, I would highly recommend making a reservation as the whole restaurant has only 6-7 tables. As many have mentioned, it is "cozy", or I would say very cramped. Probably one of the most cramped restaurants I've ever been in here in NYC, almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Be aware if you do make a reservation, they have a strict cancelation policy where you will be charged $25/person if you cancel. It was very busy when we arrived and we waited a couple minutes for them to set our table. I was annoyed when the host showed us our table and expected us to fit. We are average sized people and I'm not sure a toddler could have fit. After much debate, she interrupted other table's meals to slide down the tables so that we could be more comfortable; even then it was tight. After that, the service was below average! It took about 20 minutes for our order to be placed, our water glasses were rarely refilled, and the food took a while to come out (about 30-45 minutes). I understand they use a brick oven to cook all of the food, so I will give them a little slack on the timing since it's a really unique concept for NYC. I did like how everything was farm to table and on the menu they showed which farms the food was coming from. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Brunch entrees ranged between $10-$25. We ordered a small order of biscuits (2) and I found them to be very dry; a little better if you added the homemade jam. We also got the large bacon, blue cheese mac and cheese to share with the table. If there is one thing you are going to order, mac and cheese has my vote! The flavors were incredible, but it was very heavy so I'd recommend sharing it. My brussel sprout salad was nothing to write home about. My parents enjoyed the French toast and said it was super filling. Overall, our experience has our ups and downs! I would tell you to try it out on your own and let me know what you think. I would go back and give them another shot because I do think NYC needs more farm to table restaurants! read more

Such a lovely dining experience!! Everything is farm to table, and you can absolutely taste it. We got the summer peach pizza on cauliflower crust and the beet salad. Both were amazing, and we appreciated gluten free options. Service was so attentive. Multiple waiters and the chef/owner checked on us throughout. We had to move our table less than 3 inches for them to make room for a larger party, and they comp'd a dessert for us which was really sweet. I was hoping there would be a bar so I could sit and read for an hour before catching a bus (visiting from out of town). There isn't a bar, but the owner was happy to have me stay at my table a little longer. This will definitely be my post-Broadway dinner spot moving forward! read more

I was looking for a small quaint dining experience while in town for a show. This place is close enough to the theater district wether walking or catching a lift. The service was friendly and personal and I appreciated that they noticed my vegetarian preferences from my open table reservation. There are a lot of unique vegetable plates that are good for vegetarians and non veggies. The small plate sides are great for trying lots of different options. As I came in to write this review (I am way overdue -- it's been a few months since we went), I noticed how much emphasis on brunch and breakfast there was, and so my kind of neutral review may reflect that, since we went for dinner. As a few other folks who gave this place 3 stars mentioned, the place is just "fine." Nothing particularly stood out as amazing, and nothing was particularly off. I'll comment on the space, which others mentioned, too -- it is VERY small. We were a group of four, and were seated at the window seat at the front (next to a larger group of about 7?) and we were very uncomfortable. The seats themselves are uncomfortable, so a heads up for anyone who may have back or sitting issues. I saw that the manager had commented that the place was wheelchair accessible; I can't imagine someone with a wheelchair being able to navigate the space. Don't know that I'd say we had a poor or rude server; he wasn't the warmest, just kind of went through the motions. One thumbs up I'll give is someone in our party had very specific food restrictions, and the chef was able to accommodate her needs, so that's a real plus for anyone with food allergies or dietary specifications. I really love the food and care they put on their dishes. We had wonderful Deviled eggs, the pesto where it sits makes it for a different experience for this classic and sometimes boring dish. We started with the Mac and cheese and brussel sprout salad. The Mac and cheese was good, but missing some flavor. The brussel sprout salad is their take on a caesar. Huge portion, but again, missing something. My mom had the lamb shank, and I had their veggie pizza (pizza is their staple). The lamb was fall off the bone tender. It wasn't super meaty but the flavor and texture were there. The pizza only comes in 12in. It's enough for 2 ppl. After our appetizers I could only eat one slice. Ingredients are super fresh! I also had the apricot hot toddy. Such an interesting and delicious take on the hot toddy. None of the servers wore masks. And it was just too tight of a space for that. Our server was phenomenal though. Very engaged. Offered some good suggestions. On the whole, it was a good experience--great food and a cute ambiance. read more

My 2 girlfriends and I picked this restaurant upon searching cozy Hell's Kitchen restaurant.. what a revelation! The Hudson Valley Cab was delicious.. the focaccia burrata app was perfection.. the the show stopper was the caci de Pepe pizza- a true marvel! I decided to go one weekday afternoon [too late for lunch but to early for dinner] I was seated immediately and my drink order was taken. I opted for the red and golden beet salad with local mesclun greens, bleu cheese, candied walnuts, sorrel and topped off with white balsamic vinaigrette. The salad arrived in a short span of time. The waiter was somewhat perplexed that I had made my choice so quickly when I arrived but I had already perused the menu. There are a lot of options making a return visit likely. It is a small space, narrow with a bar towards the back. The food was delicious, the price reasonable for the area and the waitstaff was accommodating. When I went to New York, I came upon this restaurant with a nice looking menu that caught my attention. I decided to eat outside as the weather was too warm for what I'm used too, plus the inside of the restaurant looked full. The Marshal was not my favorite at all. My friends and I decided to do Saturday brunch at The Marshal and there was not one thing that really blew me away and here is why. The service is very slow, it took forever to place our food order and the food was subpar at best. My husband had the Esposito Frittata and he stated that the dish lacked flavor all together and was nothing to write home about. My friend had a frittata as well and he basically said that the dish was average. I had the Wood Oven Biscuit Sandwich without the pork patty and added tomatoes; the sandwich was really small(see picture) definitely not worth the price overall, I cannot imagine that the pork patty really makes any difference, the flavor is just not there and I would not recommend ordering. The server never checked in on us to see how things were going and it took forever to get our drinks and food. Even though The Marshal is just a few blocks from my house this will be my last time visiting, unfortunately it really left a bad taste in our mouths.
