Calling a restaurant "The Mexico Cafe" and walking in to find giant American flags and leftover Fourth of July signage, five weeks after the holiday, is corny advertising and lazy branding. The decor felt like it was one cardboard Trump cutout and a few MAGA signs away from fully revealing its true aesthetic. It's not just tone-deaf, it's a parody of cultural representation. The food? Below average at best. The carnitas tasted boiled, stripped of any depth or crispness, and the guacamole had all the charm of something squeezed from a plastic tube. The massive open layout with awkward seating didn't evoke warmth or community, it felt like a caricature of Mexican hospitality, more interested in optics than authenticity. The young woman who served my family was kind, attentive, and likely doing her best in a space that felt more like a gimmick than a genuine restaurant. Her grace stood out in contrast to the environment. From the moment I walked in, I knew it was a mistake. But hunger and patience won out over instinct. I wish they hadn't. This was a massive disappointment, nowhere near the 4.1 stars Yelp is tossing around like confetti. If you're looking for real Mexican food with heart, soul, and respect for the culture, this isn't it. read more

After driving by here at night when it's always so busy, I decided to come here for lunch. I liked that they had a lunch menu. I ordered the chicken taco salad and a water, no ice. The chips and salsa came out quickly. The salsa was was reminiscent of something from a jar, though I'm sure it wasn't. Maybe it was a cooked salsa. Either way, it was not my favorite. Then I got my chicken taco salad. There was a lot of shredded chicken on it. The only problem is the shredded chicken was very dry. I went to take a drink of my water and noticed it wasn't there. So I flagged down my server and a little while later, he brought my water, with ice. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing and should have had a lunch combo with tacos. Or maybe I should have ordered the salad with ground beef. Either way, I'm not sure I will be back. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants locally that I feel exceed the quality of this one. read more

Stunning environment and great vibe! Location is close to freeway access and in a perfect spot that's easy to find. Plenty of parking and just a beautiful layout. Loved the high ceilings, large open front area and lots of seating inside. Waiting area has great seating with generous amount of room. The food....awesome! The service....exceptional! We had high expectations to drive to Temecula from San Diego and this establishment did not disappoint. read more

By the way. Beware of the obvious over the top fake positive reviews that are paid for or done by their friends. First of all we all went after golf. Spending a lot of money. We were not even being loud but the one employee came up and was rude and told us to be quiet. ( mind you it's the afternoon on. A Friday. The food is not even that good, but if you add to that bad attitude by the one man . Will not recommend to any of our Temecula friends or family. It's a shame to have someone running it that treats customers like this. The actual kids serving were nice. It was just a certain couple of people and I bet we're not the only ones this happened to. There are plenty of appreciative restaurants in Temecula so we don't need them to feel we need them read more

We came on Saturday 3/1 at 7:30 pm. The place is nice. Service overall was good. Our server Panchito was professional and attentive. The Margaritas were good. My beer was cold. We ordered beef fajitas and shrimp fajitas. The shrimp fajitas were good but the Beef Fajitas had barely any beef. It's was almost all vegetable. Whatever beef was there was good.!I wish they had more. We had the server the feedback. Hopefully they correct it. read more

Several months ago, we went there to eat a great tasting lunch. I paid for the meal with the nice waitress. We left and I forgot my credit card. The next day I called and Kaylee answered and said my credit card was still there. Truly excellent service and a trustworthy staff! Oh my gosh! This place is AMAZING! My friend recommended this place and she hadn't even told us that is was buffet style. I'm really impressed with the restaurant (how clean it is) and the service was pretty good too! Thanks Panchito!! It's funny because I totally wanted a crepe and to my surprise there was a crepe stand waiting just for me ;) lol Everything was delish. There wasn't anything that I did not like. The only recommendation would be the dessert bar. It was just cookies and ...well, more cookies lol maybe add some choco flan?? Tres leches cake? Stuff like that. Not a first time visit reviewer (generally) but I do make an exception here or there. This place fit the bill... Ever since opening, the wifey and I have driven by here numerous times and the rather voluminous parking lot always seemed to be full. Now, in our haste to lose our a$$es off at an unnamed casino down the road, we've always driven right by. This time, we both were so hungry we could have eaten the a$$ end out of a skunk and decided to give it a try before suffering our monetary losses... First impression... The place is large and nicely decorated. We were greeted immediately and sat as instantaneously. Our server (Veronica???) was an absolute doll and instantly took our drink orders. They came back to us almost before I could say Modelo and fortunately for us, our minds were already made up when it came to our order(s). We both got the carne asada taco plates and man were those little effers good!! Well seasoned, nice meat portions and the rice & beans were very good to boot!! Will definitely stop in again. National Taco day Tuesday on Wednesday! We were one day late celebrating tacos! Never been to this very busy restaurant in Temecula. - very big restaurant/ comfortable and neatly decorated for Halloween -staff was very friendly and attentive Accommodations were gladly handled. Hubby wanted salsa verde for his chips and was brought two yummy additional salsas. While tacos looked great, an amazing plate of fajitas walked by and determined our dinner for us! Fajitas was presented in a sizzling heap and looked delicious. Our side of all beans ( first order was miss sent to the table next to us and profusely apologized for) and tortillas, sour cream and guacamole were really tasty. Even though one might consider this restaurant more Americanized, it was exactly what this family needed and wanted for dinner!! read more

I ordered cheese enchiladas and was served cheese enchiladas with refried beans inside! I also told them no beans just rice. I complained to the waitress, nothing was done! Then to the manager/owner and he told me I should have said something earlier! Terrible attitude! Never going back! Who mixes cheese and refried beans into an enchilada? read more

This was my first experience at this restaurant, the greeters were very nice and the ambience was really pleasant and I was happy to be there. That happiness was only to last for a few moments because of the service we received by Nick. He was late coming to our table, but we understand that things get busy so we decided to give him the benefit. after he took our order and we got our meal, he was nowhere to be seen. when he he finally checked on me, I asked him for a knife, and it never arrived. When he finally checked on me after I was done with my meal, I said oh did you forget the knife, and he just had a dumb look on his face like oh, I'll get it for you ... I told him it was too late. My drink was empty and i never got a refill, and I had to get up to prompt to get a receipt and boxes. The food was OK, needed a little bit more spices and didn't feel like anything special so I suggest to please add more flavor to your food. The biggest concern was the service. I'm happy to say this was my first and last time at this restaurant. Thanks for a not so good first experience Nick. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight. We were seated quickly. Our server Jeanette was super sweet, had a smile on her face the entire night. I ordered the meat tostada with chicken. Super refreshing to get a tostada without the big shell that I don't need to eat. My husband had a shredded chicken burrito He really liked and our daughter had a bean and cheese burrito which she enjoyed as well. A few kinks is the reason for four stars. Hubby asked for no rice and all beans. The kitchen person who brought the food out said no problem she would take the separate place with rice and beans back and bring all beans. The beans never showed up, we gave up. read more

Spacious, very attractive place. Elaborate and really cool decorations for Halloween, great for families. I ordered a chili colorado burrito, wet. Friends ordered chili verde. Lots of food, you definitely get your money's worth, and it's very tasty. First basket of chips is complimentary, after that each basket is .99. Service is good and friendly, but a little slow...I don't know that I would recommend it if you're in a hurry. Overall, really enjoyed the meal and the restaurant. read more

Great first impression quickly followed by second visit. The first great impression consisted of two factors, very nice restaurant and good food. The Mexico Cafe is conveniently located on the Pachanga Road. The restaurant is massive inside. There are a few big rooms with tall ceilings and tasteful decorations. There are many seating areas (tables, booths). If you wish you can opt to sit in the outside patio. Because of this restaurant popularity the parking spaces will fill up quickly. Now let's talk about food. You will definitely get to taste good and flavoursome Mexican cuisine. The variety of dishes is really good so you can find something you like. All our dishes were well prepared and seasoned. Our second visit that followed shortly after the first one was to experience their Sunday Brunch. It was buffet style brunch. You can sample different pre made foods such as eggs, potatoes, chicken fajitas, chilli verde etc. You can also have your omelette or craps prepared to you liking. Overall all it was really good food and customer service experience. I recommend you at least try this restaurant once. read more

Came here for the first time yesterday for lunch. Had the mango margarita to start with which was tasty and then the enchilada suiza with shredded chicken and rice and beans on the side. The food was good but needed a little more flavor and the rice was a bit dry and hard. We'll probably go back and try again. The server was attentive and kept checking in on us. Now the food. When we were sat down, we were given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfect and not overly salty or greasy. The salsa was very mild and had a great flavor. I ordered a 2 taco combo plate ($14.95) with carne asada and carnitas. The carne asada was just okay, it was cut into thicker piece, which is not my preference. It was also topped with guacamole, which was not the best I've had. The carnitas however were magnificent topped with pickled onions, cilantro, and salsa. The rice was not traditional Mexican rice and did have a bit of a crunch to it rather than a toast before cooking. The beans were just plain pinto beans, not refried beans, but they were good. While this place, is not extremely traditional, it is a great spot in Old Town Temecula with fairly good food. I'm looking forward to coming back again.

When I told her through Yelp, she said she hadn't closed reservations in time and had been too busy the day before to check the Yelp reservations. Respectfully, that's not the customer's problem!!!! MY issue is the false advertising. This was promoted as a COPA MUNDIAL watch party, yet there was no reasonable way for us to actually watch the game from our table. Had I known that beforehand, I would have chosen one of the many other venues available. By the time we arrived and the game had already started, my options were extremely limited. PLEASE If you're planning to come here for a watch party, don't. this restaurant is not equipped for that. Save yourself the disappointment and watch the game somewhere else. We politely asked if it would be possible to move to a different table. We completely understood if there wasn't one available and didn't mind waiting longer, but the host's attitude made us feel like our concern wasn't valid. We ended up waiting another hour before being seated elsewhere. If the restaurant knew the odor outside was that bad, they shouldn't have been seating guests in that area. The smell can make it impossible to enjoy a meal, and the way our request was handled left a negative impression. Hopefully, they can improve both the seating arrangements and the customer service in situations like this.

**Review of Mexico Cafe** I recently dined at Mexico Cafe, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas, which were overwhelmed by an excessive amount of cheese--far too much for a balanced dish. The beans were dry, and the rice lacked any noticeable flavor. The drinks were equally disappointing. I had a Gold Cadillac margarita that was sour and overly strong, while my husband's pomegranate margarita tasted like pure sugary syrup with an overwhelming strength of alcohol. Neither drink was enjoyable. The decor of the restaurant was confusing at best. While they have embraced a Christmas theme, it lacks cohesion and feels more like an assortment of unrelated decorations. There were several Christmas trees scattered around, but the overall atmosphere felt underwhelming. The space in the restaurant also seemed poorly utilized, with large open areas that could have been better arranged. The seating was outdated and uncomfortable, which detracted from the overall experience. On the positive side, the service was good. The staff was friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, the quality of the food and ambiance overshadowed their efforts. Just had an early dinner here yesterday. The building is beautiful and very spacious, the decor is minimalistic and clean which looks nice but it might be a little too plain? Not festive enough for a Mexican restaurant? The girls at the hostess desk were super friendly, greeted us right away. We opted to sit in the bar. Everything was really clean, we were greeted by multiple staff members as soon as we walked in the bar area, just my personal opinion but the decor wasn't very festive, super plain. We had house Margaritas which were amazing! My mom had a chicken quesadilla she said was great, my son had the carne asada fries which he said we're delicious, I had 2 tacos a la carte which we're really good, my only problem was that I had ordered fish but got chicken. They were still tasty though! The servers were super attentive throughout the whole meal and we will definitely be back! Diners please remember this restaurant just opened, the staff is young and restaurants are having problems even finding people who are willing to work! The food on the buffet is delicious. A lot of time, effort, and care have gone into decoration this place for Halloween and it is fantastic. We were seated in the dining room next to the buffet and the sun was shining in from the windows above. You could see alot of air pollution in the light, I even caught it when filming their animated Chuckie doll. Looking up to the ceiling you could see the HVAc intakes were dirty and I assume the filters need to be changed. I was not comfortable knowing I was breathing this in. Every thing else I Loved! The Food, the decor, and the service! Lacie was so warm and welcoming and took care of our every need! I hope the take care of the indoor air pollution issue! Where do I start? What happened to this once beautiful restaurant. If you are looking for a haunted house to eat then you are in the right place. However, if you are a business and put on your counter now almost hidden "stand for the flag kneel for the cross" and put God Bless this cafe and all who work here on your receipt, but put demons and horror movie figures in your place of business that tells the community which god you serve. My daughter is 10 years old and she was so scared we should have walked out. We ate and got out of there. Shame on this restaurant for not making it family friendly. The food is amazing, use to be one our favorite places to eat. But now, we will never eat here again due to the demonic decor. May God have mercy on your soul. I just had their Sunday buffet brunch for the 2nd time and I am very happy again! They even had some new items on the menu. I eat at Mexican restaurants probably more than any other food, but i have never had costillas before. They are pork ribs and literally melted off the bone. They were absolutely delicious and I even went back for seconds!!. Their birria soup has big chunks of tender beef and adding oregano, red pepper, and lime, made this scrumptious...next time i will add some white onions from their taco bar to it also! I also had a shredded beef taco with cheddar cheese and guacamole from the taco bar. My wife had a custom ordered omelet from the omelet bar. I've been here a few times now, and it's officially a go-to spot. This round, I went with the carne asada--packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Brought my 14-year-old (who's nearly 6 feet tall and always hungry), and he crushed the fajitas. No surprise--they were amazing. Service was quick, friendly, and on point with the refills. The vibe here is always solid, relaxed but lively. And the decor? Whoever's behind it knows what they're doing. Every time we walk in, there's something new that catches my eye. We had such a wonderful experience at The Mexico Cafe! We were seated out on the patio, which had a great atmosphere and made our meal even more enjoyable. Our server, Lauren, was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. I visited The Mexico Café last Sunday for brunch and would rate it an 8.5 out of 10. The décor was intense--especially with the Halloween theme--and while I'm not a big fan of Halloween, I have to give them credit for the effort. The ambience and overall setup felt very welcoming, and the service was excellent. The food and desserts were good, with an impressive selection of traditional Mexican dishes. It's only our "millionth" time visiting Disneyland... uh I mean the Mexico Cafe' in T town. Never disappoints! Many family birthday requests to celebrate here. Food was good but I was mostly impressed with our server. Pierce was really on it. He was always there when we needed anything and got us our food quick. I don't think I even had to ask for a refill because he was always coming by with more water. The only issue I had was how loud it was. I came out because I've gone to the location in San Bernardino and it's definitely a different atmosphere. Food is great and tastes authentic. Enchiladas, Chili Rellenos and chicken taquitos are really good. Salsa and chips are awesome. Indoor decorations is beautiful and the restaurant is wide open and feels relaxing. They also have outdoor patio seating when the weather is good. I hesitate to write this review because you may just take our seat at the bar! If you are looking for your "Cheers" this is our go-to neighborhood bar. We know the staff intimately and they always take such good care of us. Our choice beverages are the tequlia flight and house margarita. From outside we saw a heck tone of cars and were delighted to hear that there was no wait. They put us in a quieter place in the restaurant. The drinks were incredible. They had amazing service as well. When we ordered drinks they gave us warm and fresh tortilla chip with amazing salsa. We got are food and just like we had expected and more it was an A++++++. This is easily the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The food here is so authentic and delicious I am hungry even thinking about it. The mango margarita was good. The chips and salsa were great. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Easter and I imagine that it's this beautiful year-round. The service (at the bar) was exceptional. Love this place. Dog friendly and great service. Our favorite is the chicken flautas. My hubby loves the carne asada plate. Ask for their secret menu salsa flight and try all the different salsas they make. SOO YUMMY! We love the location, right down the street from our house. Fajita style onions and peppers with a generous amount of juicy Machaca, laced with perfectly melted cheese. I think there may have been some refried beans in there too since I asked for everything they recommend. If there was they were so nicely blended they didn't dominate a single bite and may have performed more as a binder. 5 stars for Location and staff were both great as it's not hard to get to off Ynez by the dealerships. It's the kind of place locals know of and tell people they got their perfect spot. Blown away by how friendly the staff is, in the morning, while taking deliveries. The Machaca Breakfast Burrito is a solid 4.9/5, would definitely order again after I try some of the others because this place is definitely going on the short list of go-to spots.
