I found myself in Folsom this morning around breakfast time. I hit up Yelp and was headed to a different place up the street to try it out. I passed by Mel's and quickly turned around and headed there instead. I was in the mood for a traditional diner breakfast, and that's what I got. I tried the corned beef hash, with the Mel's home style potatoes. (I always try corned beef hash when they make it on site). It was full of flavor and comes fried with bell peppers and onions. The potatoes come with onions as well, but it mentions several places on the menu to tell your server if you don't want them added. The staff was friendly, and it seems that they all are friendly with each other. Very peaceful and tasty breakfast that came out very quick. I will definitely go back. read more

My husband took me here for Sunday breakfast. I thought we'd walk into a mad house, but it was still quiet at 8:45 am. He ordered something huge with lots of meat & scrambled eggs. He said it was good ( and he took home leftovers & ate them the fol,lowing day, so he didn't lie). I ordered the homemade corned beef hash. Ok, so, I am a hash-snob. This was hands down THE bast corned beef hash I have ever had outside of my own (yeah, so I am also biased) :p It was honest-to-god homemade. Nice little cubes of corned beef, sauteed onion/peppers/potatoes. 2 eggs over easy on top & it was breakfast perfection! The gravy on my biscuit & gravy was to die for. Sage seasoned, creamy & I swear there was a hint of bacon in it, along with the sausage. Yum. We had fun pumping quarters into the table side juke box while we waited, and ate. (Purple People Eater started us off...LOL) I also grabbed all kinds of car show fliers for the upcoming month. This is MY kind of place.... Went here on the way up to Tahoe as James one of our friends demanded a "sit down" restaurant. This place was easy to find, we were seated immediately and helped out by Ashlie, she was super nice and had good recommendations. I ordered the veggie burger and my friends got the turkey dinner, club sandwich and we got every side they had, soup, fries, pasta, and salad. Absolutely the best place to eat breakfast early in the morning, and some of the friendliest staff you'll ever meet.

Solid kid friendly environment. Waitresses can be hit or miss but the kitchen and atmosphere is always consistent. I love that they balloons for the kids because it always puts a smile on their face. read more

This place is DISGUSTING! The first thing I noticed is it is absolutely filthy. I doubt they have ever cleaned that place every place I looked seemed to be covered in dust and grime. Then our food came...oh it was bad so bad. I got off easy my eggs were overcooked and my potatoes tasted like burned plastic but my poor poor husband, it makes me sick to think about it. He got biscuits and gravy and the gravy must have been rancid it was the most disgusting thing either of us had ever tasted I'm gagging now just thinking about it. Then to add insult to injury the waitress never came back after she dropped off our food we couldn't even tell her that something was terribly wrong with the gravy. Beyond terrible. The best thing was the ketchup. Seriously tho hamburger was bland and completely unremarkable. The lettuce was so sad to be with that burger if completely wilted. This is a solid food option if you are in the Folsom area. I Always get the burger when I go to Mel's, changed it up a bit and got their Beef and Cheddar. This is a good sandwhich with roast beef, green chilies, lettuce and tomato and cheddar. The chilies give it a nice kick. read more

Great service and food. The staff are all friendly and helpful, even to tourists like us! Our breakfast stop on the way up to Tahoe impressed us so much that we stopped for lunch on our return trip. I took my cousin and her 2 sons here about 1 week ago. They were visiting from Sweden and wanted to go to a 50's diner. Our server was Micki and she was very good and personable. My cousin and her sons loved the place and the food. I liked the food and service as well. We had lunch and they thought the burgers were excellent as well as the shakes. It was the biggest burger they had ever seen she claimed. I had the cheese steak sandwich which was good but I would have liked a little more seasoning on the meat. Overall it was a great experience with the food and service. I will return and recommend this establishment. read more

Been in a few Mel's that were old and dirty but this one is clean, efficient and friendly... and you sure can't beat the prices for a sit-down meal! My favorite diner food is breakfast. I go to the Mel's in Placerville as I live nearby. I tried the one in Folsom, and it was the nicer of the 2 locations, outside seating, etc. The problem is the food is not as good as the Placerville store. Still, better than any drive-through. read more

Nice, Solid Service...The servers are always friendly and helpful! Ordered a Joe's Special for the first time with a biscuit and gravy on the side. The Joe's was delicious although the eggs were just a little over-done (asked for over medium). The gravy was good - very savory with, I think it was thyme. Most places don't like construction workers. They treat us like we are cheap or an inconvenience to deal with. This place was amazing and I was seated right away and served in a timely manner. I just recently moved to Arizona from Folsom. Over the course of the year+ I lived there, I ate at Mels quite often - typically once, twice or more a week. The food is good diner food. What makes this most enjoyable is the wait staff - They're absolutely great! Tried this for the first time and I will definitely not return. Everything was over salted. Had turkey dip; very little turkey and a terrible Aj jus (super thick) and no cheese. Upgraded for sweet potato fries. Yuck; they were oil soaked. My son had a breakfast skillet. His dish had over cooked eggs, burnt potatoes and over salted gravy. Mentioned it to the server and all we got was oh sorry. Our meal with four people eating sandwiches and breakfast skillet was over $50. Way, way over priced for what your eating. read more

The music machine is fun. The service was fine and the water was good. I ordered a veggie omelette which came with potatoes. Neither had any flavor and i didn't want to waste calories so i didn't eat it. My boyfriend had prime rib, mashed potatoes, vegetables, a salad and a vanilla shake. The server noticed i didn't eat anything and asked if i wanted to swap it out for something so i decided to try a veggie quesadilla. The prime rib was average. The vegetables tasted like they were boiled and had no flavor and the mashed potatoes tasted stale and were an odd texture and when they cooled down they turned hard and crusty. The salad was average. The vanilla shake tasted like a frosty. My quesadilla was crispy like it was deep fried and had no flavor. I had 2 bites and was done. I paid $30 and left hungry. read more

From the gut review: I am new to Folsom and was looking for a value home cooked american breakfast and saw some decent reviews on yelp for this place. I will continue to seek a value home cooked breakfast. Yelp steered me wrong, my review follows: 1. Service was sub par. Waitress took too long to take my order. Also, waitress should be on top of you for refills, but did not happen here as i waited way too long for refills and did not get my fair share. 2. Value was sub par. The value of one star on the yelp page was misleading. With the tip, it costed $15 and change for a two egg breakfast and coffee which is way too much. This place is not a one star cheap breakfast place by any means on the weekend. 3. Food quality was average. Wanted crispy bacon but it was black (too crispy). Eggs was average. Potatoes were better than most. 4. Environment - Unless you really like 1950's rock, i think it's too loud for breakfast . Recommend they lower their prices and improve service. I will not go back to this place at the state they are currently in. read more
