Went there with my family. The food was horrible. Ordered bday a maid Mel's burger. All I tasted was fat, grease, and an unseasoned, bland piece of meat. The bread was toasted and the whole sandwich was doused...no drenched in oil? Or lard perhaps? Just fyi... salt and pepper go a long way. I won't even go into everyone else's meal (there were 5 of us)...and the worst thing was the fact that it was a $60meal....if your going to pay that much... You'd be better off with sushi, Thai.... Hell.... anything really....if you want to understand the obesity epidemic in America...have a meal there... your sure to walk out with a few clogged arteries and you'll be one step away from that heart attack you keep telling yourself will never happen...I will never eat there again. read more

I love Mel's, I've been coming here for years. Everything is good. But one thing you need to know: best ranch dressing in town, hands down. I love a side salad with ranch, or dipping fries, or even the edges of a grilled ham and cheese. The best thing ever? Their beer battered onion rings dipped in ranch. Holy diver. Been going to Mel's for years and today was a huge disappointment. Diner was not ver busy, had to wait for a table to be cleared. Did not get coffee until the food came. Toast was soggy, barely toasted. No one ever offered a refill on coffee. Food was not as good as usual. Server complained that the manager, hostess and another server did not show up, however did. It appear that the staff was working hard to pick up the slack. They had plenty of time to complain about those that did not show. Heading home to make some coffee now. read more

Late night after an insane day of traveling from Southern CA and working all day and evening. I remember I've eaten breakfast at Mel's last time I was here in Folsom, and the service was perfection. Order a French Dip, ask if it comes with Au Jus, am assured it does. Get to my hotel, no Au Jus. Sandwich is already getting cold, milkshake already getting warm, no use driving all the way back, especially since they close in two minutes. Awesome service, the girl who helped me was SO incredibly nice. But I can't believe how the one thing I asked for was missed. So now I'm eating a dry french dip at 10:58pm and not enjoying a single bite. Really ruined my evening. Saturday morning and the restaurant was not busy at all. Was seated right away, but no server came to greet us or even get a drink order. Waitress walked past us 3 times without saying anything. Meanwhile, her friend walked in and was seated well after my party and got drinks served immediately. We just decided to leave and walked past all the servers/hostesses standing around and talking. I believe the Folsom Mel's is a great place for a quick, cheap, delightful breakfast in a very pleasant place. The prices can't be beat and the servers are always very pleasant. Mels Diner is always very fast seating and service.Food is huge portions and really good.The staff is so friendly and always available for help like extra drinks or just checking on us.The seats however are pretty hard. Everytime I leave there my back hurts. They also have alot of flies flying around which is kind of gross. But the overall experience I have there each time is what brings me back. This is an awesome place if you prefer a Retro style restaurant. The place serves you Breakfast all day long, so thats a BIG plus for me. The Juke box is fantastic with every table having access to the Juke box and the catalog of songs are all from the 50's on. Sit back and enjoy those melodies (you need change in your pocket to play songs). Lastly, do not forget, this is one of the FEW places that sell you the Malts. You've gotta try it, it is simply out of this world. Place is very clean, the service very friendly and the check was something we would have spent in a place like Applebees......around $30 or so between me and my Girlfriend (this was brunch). Dont forget to take quarters with you for the Juke Box and Make sure you try one of their Malts! read more

Absolutely disgusting food... it gave me food poisoning! We went this past Sunday, October 21, for a late brunch. My husband and son ordered omelets that were edible, but that's about all you could say about it. The coffee was really horrible! It tasted like it had been filtered through bleached binder paper, so I sent it back, requesting a new cup. The second cup was supposedly freshly brewed, but still had an off taste, like the coffee maker had not been cleaned in a long time. I ordered a lunch item, a tuna melt with fries and we shared an order of onion rings. My sandwich and the order of onion rings arrived barely lukewarm, but since we needed to eat and go somewhere else, I didn't send it back. It was like my order sat while they cooked the egg dishes for my husband and son. The onion rings were heavy on the breading and did not have a light beer batter, as I had expected. Again, something was off about these, and I suspect that the oil was rancid. I started feeling ill before I left the restaurant and spent the rest of the day violently ill with nausea and diarrhea. As others have said, the restaurant is not very clean. The bathrooms were dirty. I almost called the health department to file a complaint based on the lack of cleanliness and the fact that both my son and I felt ill after our meals. Needless to say, we will not be back, and don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are other businesses in Folsom that are more deserving of our patronage. Very bad experience - AVOID! read more

Food was good but service sucked. Our server gave us our food and never came back. Were we supposed to get the bill and pay up front? It was our first time there. After kayaking on Lake Natoma we stopped for breakfast on the 4th of July. I don't eat breakfast that isn't healthy and sometimes that is hard to find. I ordered their oatmeal and it was only $2.79 and suprisingly tasty! It isn't from a "instant packet" like the Sutter Street Cafe serves. (The server there was dumbfounded when I didn't want a platter of fried meats and a heap of pancakes like most of the folks were gorging themselves on.) It comes with milk, brown sugar and raisins. It had a nice nutty flavor. Their coffee was ok also. My husband had bisquits and gravy with scrambled eggs and hash browns. All good, with the potatoes topped with green and regular onions. Didn't realize this location was close to me until the other day. I used to work close by the Howe location years ago and REALLY missed their food..... especially their fresh made fried zucchini with ranch!!! Stopped by here on way to grocery store and treated myself to the zucchini..... soooo good!!!! These are not frozen like almost every other place I have tried, they are hand breaded, fried and topped with parmesan. I didn't dare look at menu because I knew I would want more I couldn't possibly eat. I miss their steak and eggs breakfast special and will definitely be back soon for that!!! Service is always friendly, fast and amazing. Staff are more than accommodating if you have leftovers to take home as well. I heard th he waitress offer even above and beyond what the people at the table me were asking for. They asked for extra dips and quite a bit of other stuff as well. Waitress was very polite and had no problem getting them what they requested and even offered ice water to take for their trip. Definitely a gem for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mel's in Folsom is where I end up for breakfast when the vehicle is getting serviced across the street. Always consistently good. The steak and eggs special is a great deal, but on occasion the NY Steak is small and thin and not that great. Most of the time it is real good, though.
