Stopped in this afternoon taking our mother for a drink. Paid parking at the curb. Don't bring in any outside drinks as it isn't allowed, not even water bottles. We ordered a well drink which was the special at the time. Gin and tonic was made well and she gave me 2 limes as they are thinly sliced. 2 bourbon and ginger ales. All were made well. Shout out to her for keeping her cool and walking away. I asked someone who he was and they said manager. Charity, Kelly and Tina are true "life of the party" types and very fun. DJs Donnie and Matt always bring the party. "Dive Bar" maybe doesn't do the Shipwreck justice. It is a friendly place, catering more to locals than to tourists, which is just fine in my book. There is a moderate nautical motif, but you don't have to worry about getting your drinks tangled up in fish nets. A few TVs over the bar, multiple pool tables (free to play on Tuesdays!), and a long, galley-style bar. I wandered in around 11pm, and the place was hopping. On a Tuesday. Karaoke every night but Sunday, and I heard some pretty fair singers. Wasn't really paying attention to the karaoke, having found a spot at the far end of the bar to observe the native wildlife. I ordered an Amber Bock, and was asked if I wanted "the little one, or the big one." I selected the big one, and as an afterthought the bartendress (Shannon) asked me if I wanted to "kill the keg." What? Kill the keg? Turns out that's all the beer you can drink for $12 bucks. If I were 20 years younger, I might have tempted fate, but decided my dalliance with "the big one" was probably enough. Little did I know that "the big one" was a 32 ounce chilled Mason jar full of my selected beverage. Were I a smarter drinker (and by the end of the first "big one", I was...), I would have ordered a couple of the "little ones", as the bottom of my beer was a bit warm by the time I finsihed it. I ordered a little one to finish off the evening. I may have found a reason to visit Clearwater Beach more than once every 30 years. read more

Very disappointed. A cool atmosphere just doesn't outweigh bad management. I love dive bars, but 3 strikes you are OUT! Sadly, the "manager" he said "I'm Jody's husband" is a real jerk, I just heard him telling a lady to "leave" after she ordered a drink, (he made her pay for it) and leave without even drinking it - because she had a dog with her. LOVE! We walked here from where we were staying on Clearwater beach. We met fun locals we met fun tourists it was a blast. They had shot specials and ugh that was not good the next morning but it was good that night! We had control of the jukebox (nothing like some Sweet Caroline to bring the crowd together). I've always thought of myself as the type of gal who digs dive bars. But now I'm second guessing myself. Everyone raved about Shipwreck Bar as the "best dive bar in Clearwater" but I just wasn't a huge fan. From the outside, the decor looks a little cheesy. But I was still interested in seeing if the inside had the same pirate theme. It did. Sorta. It was kinda like a bar that actual pirates would have hung out in. Which was kinda cool. I guess. There were four of us in our group and we were able to get a table near the bar, which had a fish tank on the one side of it (which was awesome). Beers were pretty cheap and the bartender was very friendly. The patrons all looked like locals, unlike the four of us who were obviously Yanks (with our accents and our pale skin and our incessant Phillies conversation). This bar also had a pool table and a jukebox for those who are looking for that sort of thing. The men in our group noted that the major game on the night (whatever that means) wasn't being shown on the TVs. One thing to note- there is smoking in this bar. Unfortunately I was wearing the only long pants and only jacket I brought with me on this trip. Sooo... I smelled like smoke for the next three days. Just something to keep in mind if you visit! Overall, this is a very divey dive bar, so if that's your bag, you'll enjoy this spot. read more

Don't go here unless you're a local. This is the definition of your stereotypical dive bar. You'll be treated like absolute shit if they even get the sense that you're not a local. Once the bartender made small talk and realized we were not from around here, he completely ignored us. What's unfortunate is we probably would have stayed and had several drinks with our party of 5. Instead, we left smelling like stale beer and cigarettes and were overcharged and basically harassed by two different bartenders. When our Lyft driver picked us up, he actually said, "oh, nobody ends up at SHITwreck" and told us to avoid it at all costs. Save yourself the trip! read more

THIS PLACE. I love dive bars. Always have since I was 18. I love the snugness of them, I love the people who work and attend them, and I love the price of the alcohol. That being said - I was hesitant to go to this place for 5 years. My family vacations every year on Idlewild and I would see this spot and go "ooo a dive bar!" but it looked like ... real divey. So I wouldn't go because I was worried a young lady alone wouldn't fair well. Last year my boyfriend was able to come down for one day and he said he'd be happy to check this place out with me. I'M SO GLAD FOR IT! All this year we've been talking about how we can't wait to get to Clearwater so we can go to the Shipwreck. Never mind the beach and seeing family -- no -- booze!! We spent 5 of our 7 nights here. The bartenders are the best bartenders we have every experienced. They are quick witted, funny, and efficient. Even at the busiest, we never had to wait for another round. All the drinks were very reasonably priced and the occasional free shot from the person down the bar who likes your jukebox picks doesn't hurt either! It's true "don't judge a book by it's cover". I'm so mad I didn't check it out sooner. The clientele is a few locals here and there, but primarily this seems to be mainly all out of towners. Great conversations and wonderful hangs. It is a smoking bar, but unless you are very sensitive to it - you don't really notice. But also - the smoke is what draws me more to it because it really locks in that dive bar ambiance! It's cool for a dive bar and they take car of the pool tables but I've had some bar tenders be down right rude to me.
