Their burger is a joke. For $18, the price of the (beef) burger I got a plate with all the regular fries, bun, etc. But the burger itself is two small (half) sized beef patties, one on top of another. White Castle size. First of all, why not make ONE regular size burger, and for $18, don't cheap out on the amount of meat. It tasted ok. But not worth the price. Stopped in for dinner Saturday night while spending a weekend in the Hudson Valley. I made a reservation via email a week prior but we changed our seats to the bar when we arrived since there was space and we wanted a more casual vibe. The bartender working Saturday night was very friendly and chatted with us throughout our meal. To start, we shared the burrata special which came with 4 pieces of toasted bread. For our mains, I had the pumpkin ravioli special and my boyfriend tried the meatloaf. Both dishes were generous portions and very good. We finished off the meal with the cheesecake. We also each ordered the mule off the cocktail menu which they made with ginger ale vs. ginger beer which gave it a nice taste. Made a last minute reservation Thursday for their dinner. It was pouring out there, but they have an screened-in porch area that we can sit. We were there for their duck breast, but they were out; they have a double duck confit for the night in place of the duck breast. So we got the duck confit, strip steak, and braised short rib for the 4 of us. Honestly, their food was mediocre at best; the steak was not seasoned well, the duck confit was a bit too salty, and the braised short ribs were kind of tough. They are missing half of the items in their dessert menu also. So food was worth 3 stars. The extra star is for their accommodation. It was pouring rain outside, rain was splashing in through the screen. The owner / manager lady was really helpful when we expressed our concern. Made multiple suggestions to help, even offering to move us to another section, thankful for that. Their pre-caution with patrons is superb. No guests can come in without masks, and they can only take masks off when seated. Hope we will be back in the area in the fall to try something new in their menu. read more

I was at the Spy last night to meet some friends who were in from out of town. The bartender was super friendly and his service was too notch. He admitted only being a bartender for 4 months but you could not tell. I ordered a Martini a very specific way and he nailed it! My whole experience at the bar was fantastic. Here is where it goes bad ... I went over to a table where my friends were sitting. They invited me to join them and I immediately exchanged pleasantries with the people at the table. In the middle of me complimenting the ladies at the table I was rudely told to be quiet by the waitress so she could get through explaining g the desert menu. When I said excuse me, she again told me to shhh and explained to me that she was very busy. After complaining to the very nice bartender about my terrible experience at the table, he told me the waitress was the owner. I guess my experience at her restaurant wasn't as important as her desert menu. read more

But after they reopened as THE SPY, and with a new menu, I'm happy to say it's now one of my favorite go-to places in High Falls! The service is alway professional. The prices are reasonable. One of the best meals my parents and I have had in a long while. I was hesitant based on the stars, but the ingredients in their dishes looked stellar, so we decided to make a reservation. We were so happy with the meal we made reservations for dinner again later this week. We had the bruschetta appetizer, which had hens of the woods, ricotta, andcarmelized onions, and it was superb. My parents had the duck confit and I had the mussels, and both were stellar (I was tempted to ask for a soup spoon, the mussels broth was so good). The staff are so lovely, and I could not recommend this restaurant more. If I ever hear people mention coming to this area, it will be my go-to recommendation! read more

This is by far the greatest restaurant in our area. When ever friends or family come up to visit I make sure we take them to the spy. It feels like a home away from home. The chef and owner duo are a power team of talent and hospitality. I can't rave about this restaurant enough. Each time I go there is a new fresh, seasonal and creative special from ramp ravioli to a meal served with a side of cookies. High falls would not be what it is without them. I actually feel giddy and excited every time I know I am going to get to eat at The Spy Social Eatery. Do yourself a favor and head there as fast as you can, they book up really fast during the warm seasons. read more

The lighting was dim and intimate, the menu is a mix of American, Italian, Mexican and Asian which is fun. _ SESAME TOFU WINGS ($10) I recommend this for its uniqueness, FLAVOR, CRUNCH, and portion. _ FRIED CHICKEN ($22) Enjoyed its boneless-ness and thin-ness of cutlet. Good portion of chicken (big enough for 2 people to share) although I'd prefer a higher collard greens to smashed potato ratio. _ SPY BURGER ($14) Pretty good. _ KAHLUA CAPPUCINO ICE CREAM Kahlua syrup was a bit too sweet but the = Coffee ice cream was nice! _ GINGER SPICE BUNDT CAKE w/ORANGE GLAZE ($8) I'd prefer less or no icing. This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. It truly is a social eatery! It's been so fun to become a regular and recognize everyone working there. Food is solid. Greatest free range tofu wings around, the flatbread special is always amazing, and you can't go wrong with the pastas! Ambiance is wonderful. It makes for a perfect date spot. Inside is beautiful and the screened porch and outdoor seating are lovely and breezy as well (and feel very Covid safe). I had the roast chicken blue plate special, which was perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. We appreciated the extensive list of wines and ciders. Ok, so here's the thing: my girlfriend and I went to the Catskills thinking we would have a lovely time eating and drinking at fine establishments. We were batting 1.000 until The Spy. First, the tofu wings: the wing sauce was a tepid barbecue, the dipping sauce was some form of sour cream abomination. Neither tasted good. The "asparagus" ravioli of the day: To our knowledge, there was no asparagus anywhere to be found. The raviolis were cooked very well, and that is the most this dish had going for it. Tossed in a "sauce" comprised exclusively of unseasoned canned diced tomatoes, this dish was ironically the most palatable of their offerings. Lastly, the "toasted corn" risotto: If you ever wanted to have an entire can of sweet creamed corn, much like that dispensed by every lunch lady in America, and mixed with a few scoops of arborio, then this is your dish. Except in this case, it cost $23 and could not be finished, due to the cloying sweetness of the omnipresent corn and an overall mush-like quality better reserved for our canine and feline friends. PS, I am nearly positive that the extra parmesan cheese we requested arrived compliments of the green Kraft tube ubiquitous to any Giant Eagle this side of the Mississippi. read more
