This place is pretty good! I came during happy hour and had Eric as my bartender. Despite being happy hour, he makes some pretty good drinks! I've been to some bars where the drinks are pretty much spiked La Croix, but Eric makes them super good. Also we had a great conversation about halo vs. call of duty. He hasn't played dark souls at all, which is a bit of a bummer, but you know what? He got me pretty drunk so I'm going to ignore that flaw. 5/5, please come to happy hour; it's pretty worth it. read more

The stash located on fourth Street close a Los on The Beatles. Pretty nice of the bar changes right now because of construction is in the area on fourth Street. It's kind of hard to find parking but it was worth it. Nice little bar facilities atmosphere is pretty good enjoyed it. It was me my wife and my daughter we went out tonight so that way my wife can have a little bit financial look at my daughter Got a few drinks prices here pretty nice only problem is limited and seating so it can get crowded at times but it does lineup a little bit. They do serve food here so we try to love something but we will come back. They have karaoke on Sundays to check them out. I can't even recommend it. There was a DJ today say three different DJs playing nice little music they have screens you watch sports if you want but that movies playing three different movies are playing at the same time so it's pretty neat. I've seen this bar on Google Maps for ages, but I really thought it was just a generic dive bar. But I kept hearing from other cocktail nerds that I had to check it out, that looks were deceiving, so I finally got around to that last Friday, and they're not wrong. It is insane how much of a difference one block can make in Long Beach - walking down 4th St downtown is super nice, then as soon as you cross Alamitos, there's trash just everywhere, it immediately feels like you're in a very different, much sketchier part of town, the part of town where you would find, well, a generic dive bar. The front entrance looks like a dive bar, then you open the door and walk in, and it looks like... still a dive bar, honestly. They really do capture the essence of dive bar very well, which is why I say this feels almost like a speakeasy even though they have a sign out in front and no password is required - like they're a speakeasy hiding in plain sight as a grungy dive bar, because as soon as you sit down, you notice, dang, the quality and selection of their spirits is *not* remotely reminiscent of a dive bar, nor is their cocktail selection. So yeah, I heard right. Not the sort of place you go to show off, but definitely the sort of place you go when you want a really good cocktail (or 2, or 5, though word of warning on that, they also pour pretty strong!)) without breaking the bank. I was there Friday around 6 PM, and there were maybe a couple other people in the bar the whole time. They do have a small but very interesting cocktail list of cocktails created by the bartenders who work there - as befits the much classier sort of bar they actually are, each drink has the bartender's name on it on the menu, so you know who to congratulate if you love one. I only tried one - the Pirata del Agave (mezcal, rum, ancho reyes, lemon, lime, orgeat and bitters), which was gorgeous, though my understanding is, as also befits the sort of craft cocktail bar they are, they're totally refreshing their whole cocktail list sometime in the next week, which they do every few months, so that doesn't necessarily help much. But I'm sure the ones next time will be at least as cool, probably cooler. I also tried my luck at a "just make me something interesting" cocktail, which the bartender there, Denise, was all *about* that. Ended up with something sort of like a mezcal negroni, other than it was super campari-forward, because I suppose I did tell her to make something she would like, and she apparently really likes campari :D. It grew on me, though. I was only going to get 2 drinks here, but when I learned their happy hour is $7 for any cocktail, including bespoke ones unless you ask for a particularly high-end spirit, I couldn't resist getting one more, cause I saw they had High West bourbon, and I'm all about that. Ended up with a very tasty cocktail that was kind of Christmas-y from the fresh-made cinnamon simple syrup they used (I forget exactly what else she said was in it - did I mention they were pretty strong drinks?) Not *quite* as experimental/creative as the drinks at Cielo were, but still, $7 (on happy hour, M-F until 7) custom-made cocktails with all fresh ingredients and the specific spirit of your choice... I felt like I was back in Mexico City - nobody does that for that cheap in SoCal! On my way out, I asked Denise, out of curiosity, cause it's sort of my gauge of how knowledgeable a bartender is, whether they can make a Vieux Carre (my all-time favorite classic cocktail, that sadly not that many people know). She was like, heck freaking *yeah*, that's my favorite classic cocktail too. She apologized for being out of Benedictine (nothing to apologize for, unless you have multiple drinks that use it on your *actual menu* - looking at you, Federal Underground!), but said they usually have it, and I could totally come back next time for one. So yeah. Assuming all the bartenders are as friendly and as excited about cocktailcrafting as Denise was, this is totally going on my "favorite bars in LB" rotation. Which, granted, is a big assumption, but one that I will definitely be validating and posting back in the next few weeks. ;) Wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a toooootally different vibe later at night, though. read more

Went on a Saturday night with a couple friends, was not even busy and the bartender seemed annoyed that I asked a couple questions about the beers on tap. Opted for a bottled beer and a couple days later I checked my statements and see that they overcharged me for the one drink I had. Terrible service and pay in cash so they don't overcharge you. read more

I would give this place more stars, but the bartender gave my boyfriend a cheaper alcohol than what he asked for and then charging for the more expensive. This definitely bothers him since he is a bartender himself.. & honestly, we both think that the bartender knew what he did. Overall though, cool place to go to. Crowded sometimes, cool drink menu (or from what I saw the bartenders making). Music selection was very diverse, something for everyone. The crowd was fun, no one seemed intimidating at all. Ordered something the bartender was making - I didn't catch the name, but was it was very tasty. Had ginger beer, cucumber, and mint in it. It's a dive bar but it's kinda weird. They try to be all hipster trendy high class but they are not. That is why I stopped going there. I recently stopped by to see what's new with the place and the bartender was being a jerk or maybe I dont understand his poor attempts to be funny. He asked me for my name then two seconds later said I already forgot it and laughed. Really Gilligan? Their patrons not all but some have this attitude like people should be impressed by them for being at this bar. These are the same people that have transplanted to Long Beach from other cities (gentrification) stand there for hours and only order one drink. Please note that they take up all this room because they come in groups of ten people or above in order to feel safe. Who the hell is trying to suite up or dress up when going to a dive bar? I'm so glad that my friends took me here! We just had a few drinks, but they're worth a quick write-up. My wife and I enjoyed the Old Fashioned (but where's the cherry, man?) and our one friend grabbed a beer. The on-tap beer list is decent, apparently always rotating. Bar tender was cranking out lots of drinks all by himself and happily answered questions. No food, but pro tip: Frida's next door will bring takeout Mexican food right to your table. Not bad! Get the Kentucky breakfast cocktail - it's amazing. Moscow mule is also one of the best I've had. All the cocktails are hand made, fresh ingredients - no ginger beer, instead home made ginger syrup! Yeah, yeah. The mustache is the most overdone motif since sparrow, actually, since the skull. But what can I say? I drove by this place a million times when it used to be a little sports bar called Cheapshots, but when I saw the new bright red sign shining like a mustache beacon in the night, well, it worked on me. You've got a pool table, a jukebox... maybe darts. It's all getting a bit fuzzy. There are two main things you need to know about The Stache though: 1. Board Games. 2. Whiskey. What a beautiful combo those two make. They have loads of games behind the bar, just ask the friendly bartenders and you'll be whiskey-deep in a Connect Four tournament before you know it. Sure, all bars have whiskey, but there are surprisingly few bars in Long Beach who make a good ol' fashioned Old Fashioned. Or Moscow Mule. Or Pimm's Cup. Or whatever you may be craving. Luckily The Stache is here to (semi) fill that void. Okay, so it's not 7 Grand or The Association, but in a town of all dives and strong vodka-sodas, it's refreshing to have a place with nice-ish cocktails at a decent price. They make their own ginger beer too. I liked it just fine, but some said it was too gingery. Anyhow, the price for beers and wells is super low. And even for their specialty cocktails - $7 isn't half bad. My drink of choice for the night was the Pimm's Cooler, it's different than a Pimm's Cup in... well, a way that I can't even begin to tell you because frankly after two of those the night was a blur. But I do know it was one delicious beverage. And one helluva night at The Stache. I can definitely see myself spending some more nights here with Connect Four tournaments in the very near future. read more

I came here with some friends who live in the area. They had visited before and were telling me about the selection of beers. I was excited to check it out. My excitement ended really quickly. We entered the bar and it was semi-packed. The crowd was mixed. There was a section of older hipsters. Call them the og of hipsters. There were your typical neo-hipsters and a group of regular folk. My friends and I walked towards the bar to order from their specialty drinks menu. I should've taken a hint from the annoyed face the girl next to me had. I don't know how long she was there, but she like I tried ordering drinks without success. I stood there for 15 minutes without ever being acknowledged. I waived at the bartenders and never even got a nod. I understood why the girl next to me was upset. Last I checked, a bar is supposed to serve drinks to their patrons. Not this place. The bartenders hung out at the far most corner of the bar talking with only those who fit a profile; skinny jeans, plaid and a mustache. Clearly, segregation still exists. Changing their name from Cheapshots to The Stache Bar is a blatant come-on for mustache aficionados. I mean, come on. Really? Of COURSE I was gonna come check it out. Anyone who knows me knows I appreciate a good luxurious 'stache, because I sadly cannot grow more than a thin sad plot of facial hair on my upper lip. The whole Movember charity thing is basically a slap in the face of people as follicularly challenged as myself. But hey, at least I can head on over to the Stache Bar and drown my sorrows in a copper mug of Moscow Mule - with housemade ginger beer to boot! Truthfully, this drink was just 'aight, but at least their specialty cocktail menu is relatively decently priced at $7 each. They do have a decent beer selection for such a small bar, and it's not as divey as it seems from drive-bys. I don't mean that there are drive-by shootings, I mean, it kinda seems like a dive from the outside from when I drove past it, but it's not. It's actually pretty I should probably learn to clarify myself further. Anyway, Stache is a good laid-back alternative to some of the other bars in the area, but it undoubtedly gets crowded on weekend nights. But for a random Tuesday birthday celebration, it gets the job done, complete with birthday board games and birthday shots. But, yes, free cake... because the THREE bartenders there were super nice, like "sitcom" nice, like "they should have their show on FOX about their adventures in a magical car" nice. In fact, so nice that when I called the next day to see if I had left my wallet there (it was actually under my bed?!), one of three Christina (the prettiest of the three, but to be fair the other two lacked female parts) totally remembered me, even though I barely said anything to her beyond "another crodka and vanberry please". Maybe it takes three bartenders because they take a little time making their signature cocktails with ginger beer and herbs and zest...it's like watching Chopped. I had a Moscow Mule. Sure, the cold copper cup was rustic and cute, the ginger beer was flavorful, and the excess mint reminded me of a bowl of pho, but to me personally it was a novelty, worth trying once. I just need a lime or umbrella to make my drink "fancy", so after one signature cocktail ($7), I had about 9 vodka cranberries because they were only $3. It just made more sense drunkomically. I give this place a 5 +++ it always has a great environment. It's not ghetto.. I don't come here often, only when I come to visit my friend. We always end up in this location. The place is small cozy, only about 5 tables, you'll get lucky if you get a table. It has a big pool table. The restrooms are fairly clean, and the atmosphere is loud on Friday/Saturday nights. To use a credit card the tab should be more than $10 in order to charge it, but.. It's okay you can spend $10 on two-three drinks with there great prices! read more

This local spot is one of my favorite places in Long Beach. It's far enough away from the glitz and glamour of Pine and Ocean but still within walking distance. No need to drive or Uber. Just tie your shoelaces and put one foot in front of the other. Cristina is a riot of laughs and smiles. She has plenty of energy and makes you feel welcomed each time you come in. You can hear her laughter all the way to the bathroom. The beer menu is always changing so it keeps you coming back to see what new batch they are offering. Typically 9 draft choices plus the bottled selections like Shiner Bock. David makes a mean cocktail if that's what you want. He came up with some fresh drinks for 5 de Mayo. Moons ago, the Stache was known as Club Cheri. Back in those days, the Club Cheri was the diviest bar located anywhere in Long Beach. I might venture to say that it was so divy that Navy men and women would not frequent the establishment. In 2011, the Stache was transformed into a clean well managed place that specializes in upscale refreshments at a very attractive price. Some of the locals here in Long Beach like to keep this place as a secret so that it does not become crowded. Soo, if I could go on the Yelp website and erase some of the positive reviews, I would ..... Ya that means your review Mike K !!!! In all sincerity, a great place to go .... And for all you ladies out there, the Stache has a bunch of Horrible Rotten Bad Guys (HRBG's) that show up regularly... I might as well grow a stache since this will be one of my watering holes in long beach from now on. This bar really pulls a good one on you. The look of the outside and the neighborhood its located in make you think you're not in for much. I stood outside holding the door handle and asked myself "do I really wanna see what's inside?" Thank the liquor gods I said yes because I found the best dive bar ever. First, the bar tender was just bubbly and inviting. She didn't say no to any request I made and she seemed genuinely happy to serve everyone in there. Secondly, she made some bomb drinks. At what price? $2.50 for well drinks during happy hour, there's no other way to put it but "you can't funk with that". I just recommend this place to anyone looking to drink good. read more

Got there for happy hour, I had one of the specialty "mules" with their homemade ginger syrup, delicious. I tend to have Moscow mules at home so I had a hankering for something different. Read the reviews especially the negative ones and really appreciated the way Brett replied to each and gave the other side of the story. That being said, I walked in Wednesday evening around 8pm and there were a few people at the bar. A mix crowd which is always cool to see. I'm not 20something any more so not looking for a place to power drink. I enjoy a good beer or cocktail and don't mind paying for it. It was all day happy hour and the prices were dialed. Sat at the bar and was greeted by both bartenders...super friendly and attentive. I was offered samples of any beer right away and was helped out with the drink menu. It's cool that they make their own juices and infused liquors. Sampled 4 of their cocktails and not a single complaint about any one of them.
