I have heard the stories. I never believed them until tonight. I am a local, eat at the Steakhouse once a week, if not twice.
This evening we went for our weekly dinner. We love the drinks, bleu cheese garlic butter, and usually our steaks. Tonight I ordered my usual filet medium rare. It came medium well. Hardly a light pink center with a brown internal edge. Zero flavor. People who like steak understand it has no taste when the juices have been cooked out. I sent it back. I waited about 20 minutes for the replacement, then I watched our server, set her tray down and run back to the kitchen as it was clear she forgot it. Now since I work in steakhouse, have previously owned a restaurant, and I have been in the industry 22 years I can tell you the steak continued to cook itself while it sat and died in the window.
It was again, medium well, if not even more well done than the original. I simply refused it and asked my server for my check. I would have been fine, I didn't need a table visit. I would of continued to be a loyal customer, except...
Melissa, the owner comes over. Scowl on her very unwelcoming face. I have heard so many local stories that she is extremely unfriendly. She approached hostile, basically telling me that a tint of light pink in a brown steak was in fact medium rare. That if I wanted to see juice and blood than I should have communicated that to my server. In which I did when I ordered it medium RARE, in which I did again when I sent the first one back. Melissa just couldn't understand what the "discrepancy" was, that steak was medium rare to her and her "chef." It was their version of medium rare. I should of asked her for a meat thermometer because I would have bet the house the internal temp of that steak was NOT 130-140 degrees. I also know what a heavily oxidized steak looks like, a steak that is expired...
I know her kind. Assumed I was a tourist. Treated me like someone she would never see again. She won't. Doesn't know or care to know her loyal local customer base. I know first hand the stress of the restaurant business, the entitlement levels of the customers. I do know though, that nobody should treat a customer who is clearly just wishing to not eat what they did not order so rudely. RUDE. Never even planned to come over to my table and even attempt to be friendly.
I even explained we come there all the time. I would gladly pay for the steak, I just wasn't going to eat it.
My steaks are usually red juicy and great but that's just wasn't the case this particular visit. There was no "I am sorry" there was no "please come back we appreciate your business."
No it was just this nasty bitch of a woman, treating me as if I had zero idea what I was speaking of.
Unfortunately there are people that sometimes do know what they are talking about, and in this case, sorry the lighting at my table was not to blame for the difference between medium rare and medium well.
I will never ever, EVER step foot in that restaurant again. I am appalled. Horrible horrible customer service. I didn't even ask to complain, I simply asked for my check. Miserable woman. Sucks because I always enjoyed going there. The rumors are true.
