I always have an affinity for breakfast places before I even take a bite. The patio is top notch and the ever changing menu is always fun. The service has always been terrible, and Kim bartman restaurants always seem to be unapologetic about the bad service. REVIEWING: SHRIMP & GREEN CHILIES OMELET WITH HASH BROWNS & BELLINI (Fancy Mimosa). Saturday morning 'breakunch' time...driving down Cedar Ave hoping that Matt's Bar (repeatedly award winning Jucy Lucy burgers...lines out the door) maybe, just maybe would be serving an egg on their burger and calling it good. No go...gotta wait till dark sans the egg. Anyway, pulled out Yelp and Tiny Diner it is, and what an "IT IS". Starting with my refreshing Blood Orange Bellini, then onto Shrimp (actually chunks of prawns is my guess) and Green Chili Omelet was perfect for me. Folded like a big burrito, it was large but not because of a lot of egg, (the egg portion was thin, thin, thin and oh so delicate) but big because of the quantity of filling. Flavorful and quantity of shrimp/prawn & blackened mild green chilis obviously hand blackened in-house. Oh, and steaming hot, right off the grill to table...comfort. The hash browns were actually brown, just how I like 'em, crunchy. (I forgo toast because I belong to the clean plate club. I'm sure it's also comment worthy.) My only gripe has nothing to do with the establishment, just the rabid woman in a BMW who came zooming into the "parking lot", cutting off my exit. When I say parking lot, Tiny's says it all, it's one of the most unusually creative use of parking (but it worked wonderfully...smart), excellent back-up skills are mandatory, or maybe a back-up camera savvy driver. I was so excited to go here and find a restaurant that is aligned with my values. However, the food was undercooked, overpriced, and generally uninspiring. My toast was barely toasted and was cold, my bacon was barely cooked and was basically all fat, and our coffees arrived after our food. My partner's egg dish was also meh. The transformation of the property is impressive, and it is very inviting. The food is delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with the price points hovering between $8-$12 for meals, despite it being locally sourced ingredients. The staff exude happiness in working there, which is reflected in the customer service. First time I went here the breakfast was great. Second time I went here there was no seating outside so we sat inside near the not so well ventilated kitchen. Shrimp tacos were okay. Third time I went we made reservations but we were placed inside on a hot night. what's the point of reservations? Then we had three large flies and number of smaller fruit flies buzzing around our table. I almost asked for a fly swatter but I thought that would disturb the other patrons. At least the Pueblo Bowl was good. Great iced tea. Besides being sat inside with reservations and the flies, The waitstaff has been great. read more

We thought we'd check out Tiny Diner and overall had two observations. First, the food was surprisingly good, we got the burger with the green chilies and it was delicious. Fries were not my fave though. Also got the all-day breakfast burrito with 3 colored sauces, so, so good. We ate until overly full. Second observation is the place is very "of its area". Sustainability, bees, growing food, overall vibe all help it blend in well to its S. Mpls surroundings. If you're into the full-on diner schtick, it's a great choice! read more

The only thing holding back a 5 star review had nothing to do with the food. It was a Memphis theme so I had a pork sandwich. Amazing! I normally don't overeat and like to take food home. Not this time-I couldn't help myself. The fries were quite good. My wife had the burger and thought it was also very good. I like the concept of TD as well. My only gripe was that we had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table when there were at least 4-5 inside that were open. Service was pretty slow although our waitress was quite good and did apologize at the end of the night. read more

Neighborhood diner and amazing food. I have enjoyed every meal. It's really my go to. Did you know they have a featured city/state menu...brilliant. People travel to sight see, but also to try food that's indeginous to that destination. Tiny Diner transports you to different destinations with their menu. Great atmosphere, especially outside. The garden is super neat. There's something about those scrambled eggs that makes them incredible. My personal favorite is the breakfast burrito. Stumbled on Tiny Diner by accident while trying to get to another eatery. When we drove past I noticed the sign and quickly decided that Tiny Diner was going to be delicious (I do just restaurants by their covers). We were promptly sat (inside, outside had 20 min. wait) and we were greeted and told about their menu. They pick a new city to feature each month SO COOL. This month is (july2014) Philadelphia, next month (aug2014) is Memphis! We shared the Philly cheesesteak fries to start: covered in delicious cheese, peppers and onions. Just delicious. For entrees we got the Deluxe Burger and The Turkey Sandwich, The Deluxe Burger was amazing, the bun was sweet, and there was bacon, so a big win there. The Turkey Sandwich was okay, I expected it to be hot, and it was cold, no biggy though! Already planning to go back next week to try the actually Philly Cheesesteak (before it's gone). read more

I've only been here once as it was directly across the street from my airbnb, and I was apartment hunting. I have to say Tiny Diner was a chill respite from the anxiety of my apartment search. Beyond the chill atmosphere and the good food, there was something else that made my visit there especially good. That something was someone. Her name is Leore. She was amazing, not to mention very beautiful too. I watched as this place filled up and it was all maintained by one person, Leore. She did an exceptional job of keeping everyone inside this place happy. It got busier and busier the longer I stayed and she made sure that she kept up with everyone inside (clearly not an easy task as their name is a bit of a misnomer here, it's not exactly tiny). Their menu has a lot to offer and I want to come back and try more of their food. My one and only complaint is the rude kitchen staff. When I arrived there wasn't anyone at the front and I asked them in Spanish if I could sit down, they very coldly replied "sit wherever" and turned back to their tasks. They also rang their bell loudly and multiple times every time they had a plate at the pass, that's just rude and cold to do to your waitstaff, they should have more class. But, just ignore this little blip. Focus on the really good stuff here- Leore, awesome food, and the chill space. I can't wait to get back here. read more

"Flabbergasted" is the best word to sum up my experience. I do understand that they do a rotation of specialties based on a city theme that changes on a regular basis. So, imagine my surprise when I received a menu decked out with Philly this and that (Rocky was even on the thing) only to find nowhere was a cheesesteak to be found...the very reason I biked down treacherous 38th St because I knew they were due to switch it out soon. OK, it was the weekend and it was a brunch-oriented menu, I understand that. What I don't get is that I could have ordered a non-brunchy item like a burger or a turkey sandwich, but not a Philadelphia based item per the theme plastered all over every page of the menu. I would have much preferred that I showed up too late and instead the theme was "Chicago" so that I could have gotten an Italian beef instead. I didn't come here for a burger like I can get anywhere or a turkey sandwich, so I just went with a cheap mini roll filled with chicken salad, but a cheesesteak it wasn't. The Chelada was yummy (PBR stirred up with limeade in a salt-rimmed glass), only $4.50, and perfect for sitting outside on the patio on a summer day. I'll probably be back to check out the bar, but for now it's too much of a hassle to bike there and I'm not waiting a half hour for that godawful #23 bus to get there (especially when I literally have to pass Pat's Tap along the way, same owners and it's ten blocks less of an already long bike ride from Loring Park). Next time I'm not gonna bother coming here to eat, because what's the point of heading all the way out for a city-themed menu, which may or may not offer any of the signature dishes associated with said city? read more

I've only been there the once, about a week after their formal opening. The service was friendly; bantering but professional. The food was good (I had the steak and eggs) and the coffee kept coming. Semi-yuppie prices, like fellow restaurant Bryant Lake Bowl, but about average for the quality. I really like that they serve breakfast and lunch until 5pm. I'd go back, especially when they finish up the garden and patio. Future visits may bump it up to five stars. read more

Not my favorite. I was excited to try it but ultimately didn't hold to my excitement. I had the Green Chile burger, HH Wings, HH fries and my cohort had the Angus burger. HH taps were also lacking. Ultimately, the burgers were not good. They had a lack of flavor that I was not expecting. The HH Fries are huge but overly salty. Other than the salt good. The HH wings were the highlight! A little on the smaller side but overall really good. The service was really good though. Food came quick and hot. That was a huge plus. read more

Fantastic patio, good service, and not too busy - we got right in at noon on a beautiful Saturday. My husband had the Dagwood sandwich with a side of greens - the side was a nice healthy portion. Sometimes a side salad is, like, 4 pieces of lettuce. Prices were high, but not outrageous. High quality meat on the sandwich. I ended up getting the breakfast burrito without the cute additions and orange juice. My husband decided to go with the breakfast of champions which he also enjoyed. I am from south Jersey/Philadelphia and the food just reminded me of home (diner food but so much better). The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and just perfectly quaint. If I lived here this would be a spot I would frequent weekly. Our meals were pricey, but this diner to us represented many of the values we align with (medical insurance for its employees, utilizing recyclable resources, supporting each other in the community... list can keep going, lol). read more

New favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food, drinks, decor and location are best around. I was really impressed with the solar panel roof, the garden and the design of the interior. Very well thought out place. I got the biscuits and mushrooms gravy with poached eggs. To wash it down I got coffee and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Second time here, this time with another couple. We had an awesome breakfast - all of us choosing omelettes. I love the coffee as well. This restaurant is really amazing in the way they work towards sustainability. They have put in solar panels and in an ascetic and cool way in that it is the roof of a wonderful outdoor patio. Can't wait to go back during the summer to sit on the patio and have a beer during happy hour. Great place! read more

This Permaculture-based diner welcomes you with lots of beauty outside and great signs to help educate folks about Permaculture principles. This I like. The pollinator condos are fantastic. It also has very tasty food (more on that later) but possibly poor service. We went in mid-morning on 9/1/18 and I don't know if our waitress hated her job, didn't care, or just was off her game but WOW! was she NOT real friendly or helpful.  She seemed to be bothered by the fact that she apparently mis-heard my drink order of, "I'm fine" after others had ordered coffees and she brought me an unordered coffee. I felt some really negative energy when she grabbed it from the table to return it to the kitchen. Then, when asked for sugar and a spoon for the cappuccino, she instead brought sugar and stir sticks.  We were glad to get the spoon after our second request for it as the sugar was really clumpy and had to be removed from the decanter with a spoon instead of pouring it from the spout.  She seemed to try a bit harder after I'm guessing she heard me say to my friend, "Maybe she's having a really bad day." But she didn't try very hard. I am always amazed by bad service when it seems to me there is a simple solution. If you're a server having a crap day, say something! Maybe, "Hey, I'm off my game today - not sure what's up but please have patience with me if I am not as cheery or well-oiled as I normally am." I believe most patrons will be happy to accommodate and might even leave a BIGGER tip to try to help out your day. I think most of us (those of us with a bit of compassion anyway) want to help others' lives easier if we can.  But first we need to know you're having a hard time, not just an apathetic grouch. Hubby Dan said the biscuits and gravy was good - had a hint of lemon - and my friend's Egg Sandwich (on a biscuit for $1 more) came with pickled radish that was excellent.  I had the New Mexico Omelet with cheddar and pickled peppers - so delish!  Loved the tanginess of the peppers and the cheese which was balanced out with the eggs, sour cream, and tortilla strips. Really great combination. The GF toast was okay but not impressive - kind of squashed - but the butter and jam made it tasty. Like that they had the ketchup in a squeezy bottle. Overall, I will return perhaps someday but I'll avoid that waitress... Hopefully she will be having better days soon. read more

PLEASE BRING BACK THE SOUTHWEST NACHOS!!!!! I love Tiny Diner because it's in my neighborhood and they actually make their eggs right, which is to say NOT over cooked! Their scrambled eggs/cream cheese/chives is heavenly. I love that they have grits as an option, and also tofu as a side! The only thing that I don't actually appreciate is their changing menu - I get that's a signature part of their branding, but it's disappointing when they take amazing things off and what's left is just meh. Absolutely love this place! My best friend and I were visiting from out of state, we we're recommended to visit for breakfast and pretty much fell head over heals in love. The people are like family, the food is fabulous, drinks are delightful, we had to come back before we headed home. Amazing food, atmosphere, personality and service. My fiancé and I ate here on a Sunday at 2pm, had a burger and a patty melt and a side of toast and chorizo. For dessert we had the apple/peach crisp and the flourless chocolate cake. Every single thing was better than imagined. The service was wonderful. My finance's burger was cooked wrong so we waited a bit for a new one, and because of the wait, they comped our entire meal, which was over and above what we expected or ever would have assumed. This was a great space for a weekend brunch. Absolutely love the patio (plus it's welcome to dogs). Overall, we felt like the food was solid but didn't live up to the space. I had the salmon omelet, which was tasty, and my wife had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and she thought it was decent but not great. Overall, we'll very likely visit again, but with so many excellent brunch places, it won't be at the very top of our list. Go for the space and enjoy a pretty good breakfast. read more

Server was very friendly. A few people had (well behaved) dogs with them. I've heard sometimes dogs can make the patio noisy. Not my experience this time however. Very good experience. read more

I was in town for the pond hockey championships when we stumbled across this gem. We ate there three times in three days and had amazing meals catered with great service a touch of craft beer. This place certainly is tiny! I've always heard good things about Tiny Diner and finally made it over here to have drinks with a colleague. The beer selection was good and I couldn't resist ordering the cheese curds- they were fantastic! I was surprised to see how quickly the restaurant filled up for dinner on a Wednesday night. Lots of families with smaller children came to eat. The biggest complaint I had was that the restaurant is so small I listened to a neighbor's loud conversation about her health for quite some time- that is no fault of Tiny Diner's! But it is good to know that this is a small and cozy space. Next time I'll sit on the bar side- that looked like a cool little atmosphere and I'm sure the patio is great in warm weather! read more
