Wow, the atmosphere and burger made me so sad that this spot is so far away from me. Came late on Saturday on my way back to San Antonio and was impressed by the food, service, and atmosphere here. I ordered the burger and it was delicious, the Hawaiian buns gave it a touch of sweetness and the chili aioli was delicious. Alright, friends. This is a good restaurant, however, you won't be seeing me come back very often. My one major drawback, which is personal to me only is that a lot of its menu items contain citrus, which I'm allergic too. However, the stuff I could eat was delicious. What I really appreciated about my waitress is she started off by asking if anyone had food allergies. Once we told her mine, she went to the chef to specifically get recommendations on which meals to cut out. Like some of the ones cut out made with a citrus base, you wouldn't have known otherwise. I thought the service was excellent and really appreciate that they went that extra mile. The venue is cute, doesn't necessarily remind me of Hawaii, but it's an adorable tropical aesthetic. The safe alcohol options for me were great. The food options that were not safe for me due to lemon/orange stuff my husband and friend raved about. The food I ate, I enjoyed wholeheartedly. I think if you want a new experience, you definitely need to come here, as the food is unique. I have been here 4 times and the reason I keep coming back it's because the food is good. Especially the burger. I don't know what it is about the burger but it's so delicious. The ambiance is pretty nice, they're always playing very nice music. Sometimes it can be very loud so it is very hard to hear the rest of the party. One thing that needs improvement is the service. Every time I come, even when it is not busy, the servers take forever to come to the table. Out of the 4 times I have been 2 times the servers have been rude. But all 4 times servers take forever to greet and come back to take the order. They seem to always be on a rush which it can be uncomfortable. I feel so sad to be downgrading my star rating for this place. All of this is based on how me and my two friends were treated during our last visit. We showed up to a 1/3 empty restaurant and were told that everything was taken by reservations and we would have to wait at least an hour to be seated. I understood wanting to hold for reservations so we asked if we could wait for a table. After 20 minutes or so we were finally seated but it seemed like the hostess was annoyed with our presence the whole time we were waiting (despite being outside and keeping our masks on). It gets worse but i will highlight some positives. I still love their tiki drinks and food at Toasted coconut. The burger is AMAZING and i love the butter chicken wings. The toasted coconut drink gives me life and was something I was looking forward to having all week. The wait staff were very attentive and amazing at giving suggestions. Great place! My friends and I met up for happy hour (4-6PM) and split a bunch of things: the Butter Chicken Wings, Cubano Sandwich, Pork Dumplings, Brussel Sprouts, and the Firecracker Chicken Sando. Holy cow was it a lot of food. We ended up not even trying the chicken sandwich and brought it home. The chicken wings were flavorful, the Cubano Sandwich was huge, and pork dumplings had a nice crispy exterior, and the brussel sprouts had a kick to it. My absolute favorite drink was the banana hammock - made with a whipped banana liqueur and cold brew coffee. It was so smooth and had such a good balance of flavor. On 12/22/2024 I had placed a reservation for today 12/33/2024 at 7:30 pm for party of 4. Upon arrival at 7:15pm. They greeted us and sat us. I had made a mistake and placed a reservation for 4 instead of 5. Yes they did assist me on getting another table so thank you very much! My problem is this. At 7:30pm the waitress came and told us they will stop serving drinks and food at 7:45pm. I asked why and she said it was a last minute that they were going to do a Xmas party and they were closing at 8:30pm. Good drinks, fun atmosphere and surprisingly good food! I'll admit, I came to Toasted Coconut with low expectations. The establishment has been around a few years and initially I was excited to try it since the Houston tiki scene is kind of lacking, however I never made it a priority after hearing from a friend that it kind of a gimmick and that the food and drinks weren't that good. Flash forward a couple years and I'm so glad we finally made it out. My parents were in town for a visit and since they are big Tiki lovers we decided to try it out. Came on a weekday during happy hour with my toddler and two newborns (came early for dinner and wanted to beat the bar crowd), and our server was very accommodating to our needs. My son loved playing in the sandy area, and we enjoyed some drinks while waiting for food. We only had a couple of drinks so I can't speak to the entire tiki menu, but the ones we had were good and true to tiki. To start we had a broccoli starter which was really good (just the tiniest bit of spice). I had a cheeseburger which was excellent, and my parents really enjoyed the chicken. My 2yo had a pancake and I have to say it was a REALLY good pancake. I plan to come back for brunch in the future just for the pancakes. I stumbled upon this Adorable tiki style tapas spot while piecing together my plans for my first trip to Houston. We made a 11:30 reservation which was a mistake because the restaurant closes at midnight. We were rushed due to closing hours ending early for a Friday night. Despite that, the aesthetics of this place are unmatched. The straw palapa, lighting, sand, beautiful lounge chairs and creative cocktails make this the perfect destination for summer nights. My friend recommended Toasted Coconut for brunch today. We made reservations for 1:30 but you could probably do walk in's as well. It's right next to what used to be Revelry on Richmond. You can either park in the lot in front or there's a lot across the street but you'll have to walk back over. So the ambiance reflects the name of the establishment. Before you walk in there's a patio that gives tropical island vibes with a tiki hut, waterfall and plants. Our waiter's name was Carlo and he was exceptional at this job. He is extremely knowledgeable about EVERY SINGLE THING ON THE MENU....EVERY SINGLE THING! He helped suggest drinks and told us what each item on the menu consisted of and how it was presented. I loved that. For my drink, I ordered the Zombie. It is advertised as being very strong so you can only have a max of 2 and boyyyy were they right! I only had one and I definitely felt tipsy. I really enjoyed the drink because it was strong and not too sweet like some of the others. It also came with a cute fire presentation which was fun. We ordered the lamb flatbread and pork dumplings for our appetizers. The dumplings were pretty good, crispy and had a nice kick to it! The flatbread was interesting I first had a bite without the cilantro yogurt sauce and it wasn't my fave. It had some sort of a bitter aftertaste to it so. Adding the yogurt definitely helped mask that for me. I don't feel like you get much lamb in it. Like it's in there for the sake of saying it's lamb but it's not like you're eating chunks of lamb meat in the flat bread. Carlo informed us that all of the meals are meant to be shared so they come family style. I'll say the appetizers were but I think at most it can be split between two people comfortably. For our entree we split the honey butter Biscuit and for dessert we split a tres leches cake. The biscuit wasn't bad but it wasn't the best I've ever had either. The bread wasn't your ordinary burger bread so that was different and the meat wasn't bad but I feel like the batter that it was fried in was seasoned but the actual meat inside could've used a bit more salt. Tres leches isn't my favorite dessert but theirs had an interesting touch to it. Horchata milk and almonds. It reminded me of the flavored milk that is left over in your cereal after you eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch (in a good way). It's important to mention that they do not split checks at all (even for a party of 2) which I won't lie, I found that a little bizarre. Also, I believe Carlo mentioned that certain things on the menu are switched out every few days or so as to create more variety.
