I was excited to hear that this place got new ownership, and excited to experience all of the improvements that was said to be made to an already great place however I was extremely shocked by what I experienced my last visit (6/8/18 @ 1:20p). They have a sign at the door not to "wait to be seated". Great! We were greeted by someone across the room who told us just to go ahead and pick a seat. We went upstairs to the area with the couch and TV in it. Another two tables of 3+ in each party sat down around the same time as us. We weren't last as we received our menus before others but somehow we ended up last in the line of ordering and getting our food. To her defense (and because I only know this because I heard her complain about it), she was the only waitress for all the tables upstairs and I saw 5-6 tables full at one point in time. We received ice water with lemon before our order was taken which was nice. I like ice water. When ordering, since we had previously been here and had the tofu (which was crispy as how it was served standard to us), we wanted to make sure it was still made the same, so we asked if it was still crispy like it used to be (I recognize the waitress from before the new owners were on board) and were told yes - so we proceeded to "add" it onto our dishes. We also both ordered the specialty lemonade fruit teas (berry passionate and Hawaii lei). When we received the drinks, they had tons of fruit... which we LOVED however there was so much we couldn't even sip the drink because the chunks would immediately get stuck. They need fatter straws to accommodate the fruit and they are good! When we finally got our food (we had been there over 20 minutes at the time and everyone else around us already got theirs), both of us received tofu that was barely cooked, let alone crispy. The steak and shrimp were both cooked well and the Mixed veggies & Korean BBQ sauce tasted the same. The steak was cut in larger pieces (like a real steak instead of chunks) which was a pleasant surprise. I immediately asked about the tofu when the food was delivered. The response from the waitress was very rude. She said "oh well, that's how they make it sometimes, and if I write it down sometimes they don't do it." Like it was my problem and I just had to live with it. I'm pretty sure it was written all over my face that that was not acceptable (Even if she wasn't mad at me, she shouldn't have responded to me that way, im the customer) and as I started trying to take the tofu off my plate, she finally said "you can just keep that on there and I'll ask them to make you another one crispy" which was nice of her to finally just take care of. The problem was, that once I received the new tofu, it wasn't crispy either. Well, I guess it was but only because it was doused in oil and burnt. And it tasted burnt. It was nothing like how it used to be made or taste. The glass noodles were chopped up in tiny pieces, I couldn't keep any on my fork! The noodles were also VERY oily - so oily that after every bite I had to wipe my mouth with the napkin... no matter how nicely I tried to eat it. We didn't enjoy it so much so that we both did NOT finish our meals. We went downstairs to pay where our waitress was at the cashier station ringing someone up. We patiently waited our turn and when she finally got to us, we requested to split the bill (just as we have done in all past visits) where she once again got an attitude with us. While she was trying to split the bill up, someone from the kitchen was trying to ask her something and she got mad again and we hear her say "people be acting like they don't know nothing in here". Again, even if she isn't mad at us, she shouldn't be showing us as customers all this attitude and issues. She proceeds to ask each of us what we ordered with an attitude 3x and finally tells us what each of us owe. We felt so awkward and uninvited, like we were a burden even though we barely received any service, none of which was decent. We were left speechless. No one came by to see if we needed a water refill the whole time we were there. I wasn't ever asked if everything was OK, not even after the tofu incident. The owners even walked in as we were paying the bill and neither of them talked to us, asked us how we were or the meal was... even with the dumbfounded looks we had on our faces. We slowly walked out the door after receiving our change still in shock that we stood in the parking lot for at least 5 minutes discussing how strange that encounter was and both feeling very put off about everything and questioning WTF we just experienced and never wanting to step foot back in. I honestly don't know if it's worth giving it another try... because if that's the experience I have and the food I get? No thanks. I'd rather take my business elsewhere. I'm pretty bummed about it though because I really liked this place. read more

OK, be sure to read the whole review and not just the three stars. We were really enjoying this restaurant, the servers were super friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed our appetizer of wings and entries of the chicken sandwich and cobb salad. They have a great selection of Shirley Temple drinks (a tad on the sweet side for me but still inventive and tasty). So I would have rated this four stars from our experience but had the misfortune of requiring to use the restroom. It was a bit of a gut punch and completely stole that fourth star! The trash was overflowing, floor sticky, soap empty, it smelled and generally looked completely neglected. I hate to downgrade based on that but when you get to four stars and above it really is about paying attention to the whole experience. Went to The Upper Room as a second choice due to a long wait at the first place. BOY AM I GLAD THE OTHER PLACE HAD A LONG WAIT. We left with a full stomach and happy. When we arrived we had to wait a bit but considering it was a Friday night the wait wasn't long. Service was good and food was GREAT. First time here. Hubby and I were pleased with the food and the service. The fries were extra delicious and the prices were good.

Service is.. awkward. You walk inside and no one really greets you or says hello, or tells you to choose your seat. The staff looks like they're just hanging out there. It's a shame because the food really is good and I would've given a 4th star but the whole dining experience could use some work. My wife and I were looking forward to trying the upper room. Although it seemed small and cramped inside, it did seem to be clean and nice plus my wife and I were looking for a nice night out. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. we ordered crabcakes for an appetizer and that was good. Our meals were served just above cold, and without a lot of flavor the best thing I can say on the menu that I ate that night was my salad. Had lunch here once with a friend and the food was so good so I had to bring the family to check it out. I love that they turned an old building space into something great. They have an upstairs downstairs with plenty of space for different size parties. The service was great and the food is delicious. The one thing I can appreciate about The Upper Room is that you can order healthy and feel great about what you just ate or you can choose to live on the wild side and still feel good about what you just ate. Giving this place 4 stars because I come here a lot but this is the second time I have had the same issue. First off, we asked for waters which we never received. I realize they were busy, there were only two servers working the floor but still.. water is a given. At least bring us a water so it's LOOKS like we've been helped. Second, I ordered my steak rare and it was well done. Like super done, no pink at all. Not ONE person stopped by our table to ask how our food came out, so I never really got a chance to correct it. I'm a server and didn't want to complain, I didn't want to flag anyone down and hoped someone would come and check on us eventually, but seriously NOT ONE person stopped by until the end to drop the check. (One minute, one bite right? Well I guess they don't do that here). I never got the chance to tell an employee that my steak came out well done and I couldn't eat it... I feel uncomfortable flagging down an employee to mention it, I shouldn't have to! Maybe that was my mistake but it's their job to ask. We suddenly got the check dropped without anyone asking if we wanted another round of drinks (which had been empty since the food dropped), water, or even a togo box.... I mean, maybe my dog might have wanted my overdone steak? I didn't eat it, but I paid for it so I wanted to at least have the option to take it with me. I'm most happy that we found The Upper Room after the place we initially wanted to go to for lunch was closed for a private event. From the outside it looks quite bare bones and even as you first step in, it's not much but then as we were taken upstairs to sit, I started to realize how cute this restaurant was in its own little way. I was a little sad that they only serve breakfast foods for a short few hours in the morning before they convert to lunch items so by the time we came at noon, it was already their lunch menu. It was a pretty good lunch though and I liked their option to create your own plate. There are various proteins to choose from, then you choose up to 2 sauces and 2 different sides including a mix of starches and veggies. I got the steak as my protein and asked for it to be cooked medium. It was perfectly medium which I was so happy about as for whatever reason, every time I ask for medium, it usually becomes medium well. I got the teriyaki sauce (too salty) and the chimichurri sauce which I liked better. For sides, I tried the sweet potato waffle fries (fantastic! Hot and crunchy, dusted with some sort of sugary concoction over the top which gives it a nice salty/sweet taste) and the crispy brussel sprouts (oily but good flavor and it was crispy on the outside). I also tried my friends mac n cheese side and it was pretty standard mac - not overly salty but nothing extravagant. Overall, happy to have found The Upper Room when we least expected it. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad I decided to try Urban Room. It's got a really cool vibe when you walk in. I haven't been in this building in years and love the look and feel they've created. The staff all seemed super friendly as soon as we walked in the door. I ordered from the build-your-own-plate: chicken, glass noodles, chimichurri for the sauce, and the Asian stir fry veggies. I was a bit hesitant about how the flavors would all mesh but OMG it was all so delicious! The glass noodles had some type of light seasoning over them (which whatever it was, I would have loved more b/c it was good but the amount was enough). The stir fry veggies included cabbage and kale and they were lightly steamed, so they kept their freshness. Chicken was cooked perfectly and that chimichurri sauce was incredible! So impressed by the flavors, service, and price but especially by knowing I can have myself a healthier meal here. Apparently they do meal prep too. Not sure about the details. Great place with great food. Everything there is cooked well has interesting options and gives you room to pick different flavors or preparations that you want. They even are okay doing a little something extra, for example I love Brussels sprouts and on days I want to cut down carbs the allow me to get double Brussels sprouts. I also like them cooked extra long and when requested the happily cooked them a little longer. There aren't a lot of healthy options in the city currently, but with place like this that market is growing. The even offer an option of food prep where you can buy 10 meals in advance. I hate being "that guy" Who gives the low review after so many good reviews. Pre-pandemic I had eaten here a few times and had good meals and good service. Today was a 180° turn. We had put our name down on the waiting list and after seeing several groups leave the restaurant , we were still not called. We went in to see where we were in line and was told "go ahead and go upstairs". We sat down with our menus and it was a good 15 minutes before our "part-time" waitress brought us our water. It was then another 30-40 minutes before the food was served. We had to request utensils as the table was not set before we sat down. She did not even stop by to check on us or refill our water. When we were almost finished, she came by the table and just placed the check on the table as she walked by. She then proceeded to greet another customer and was very warm and friendly to them. We would like to give her the benefit of the doubt that the customers that she was warm and friendly to were regulars. And the food this time was not memorable. On our drive home from the restaurant, we discussed our experience and felt that our patronage was not appreciated. Yes, we received the food we ordered, but that was all. Cute, Rustic, Romantic little healthy restaurant that just opened up in Tracy. I decided to take a trip up there for my daily weekend Yelp travels/reviews. The restaurant is located on the corner and it's two stories. They have a little parking lot and don't worry you can park anywhere. Don't mind the old markings on the floor. I walked in and I loved the two story/ plant decorations. You can choose to sit upstairs or downstairs. I ordered the Pixie Dust drink and made my own plate. Thai chili shrimp, Asian mixed veggies with mac&cheese. The flavors are nice. You can taste that the shrimp is grilled. The veggies were flavorful and crisp. The macaroni had the be my favorite due to its creaminess. I left out one star because the menus. I didn't know where the drink menus were until they pointed it out and I had to ask. I know they're just opening so things may change overtime; but overall it's a nice place to check out! read more

This establishment has horrible customer service. I walked in with my family and no one greeted us or asked to hold on . They just gave us a dirty look and I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's because we were the only Latinos there. All we seen outside was big trucks with trump supporters stickers lol We left shortly after, since no one bothered to acknowledge us. I won't be returning ever again. With all these diverse people moving in from the Bay Area they should consider training their staff to treat everyone equally. Responding to owner: This review isn't based on you, it's based on your establishment. Saying my review is "fake" instead of apologizing for the lack of training you provided your staff is unprofessional. I was actually very exited to try your restaurant until I walked in and was treated very poorly. You should at-least do the minimum and apologized for the treatment I received. It's fine though, by the way you responded to me I can tell you're just as unprofessional as your staff and understand why I was treated so poorly.
