We made a reservation for New Year's Eve here but did not find out until arriving at the restaurant that they were only serving the buffet for $60 per person. I wasn't overly impressed by the sides but the main portion of the meal was good (ex: my veggies were definitely just a bag of frozen corn, edamame). Elegant, exquisite, variety of wine selections. Quiet and relaxing ambiance. Time appears to sit still while you enjoy your meal. My wife and I shared their 16 oz steak which was hands down the 2nd best steak I have enjoyed (first being Japanese Wagyu). Steak had a consistent finish throughout and every bite was soft. Parking is unfortunately an issue with limited space and main restaurant parking is up a hill on a dirt lot. This was the best meal of my 5 day trip to Colorado to visit my daughter in college at CSU! We always make Estes Park a part of our stay. This restaurant was truly a find for both the view and the food. I ordered the house old-fashioned (the waiter noted as a secret recipe) & this was really nice. Perfectly blended cocktail with the signature large ice cube. I chose mahi mahi as my dinner, and it was truly amazing. The fish was perfectly cooked and complimented by savory vegetables and wasabi mashed potatoes. My daughter ordered the bowtie pasta with mushrooms and loved the signature pesto cream sauce. Her rating: delicious! I can't wait to visit The View again, this time dining earlier to see "the view" while it is still light out. Ideally we would also stay onsite at Crags Lodge. :))) read more

I had the Mediterranean chicken and my wife had the Mahi Mahi. 1) chicken was overcooked and rubbery. For the price it was extremely underwhelming. It was paired with a risotto and the mix of cheeses made it too salty. Also, the Mediterranean flavors of the chicken did not pair well with the risotto. 2) the Mahi Mahi was also overcooked. When done right it should melt in your mouth. When fish is overdone it has more the consistency of canned tuna. Only good thing about this place was literally THE VIEW from the restaurant. We made the reservation at 8:30 pm and ordered the food. The food came at 9:30 pm. There weren't many people and I don't understand why it took so long. No one really explained why food came late nor apologized. I ordered lamb racks and what I got was loin chop. Seriously disappointed. Imagine you ordered filet mignon and t bone was served. The meat was very very dry and hard to chew. Food is really awful here. Don't waste your money. Restaurant is honestly ok. The "view" is between trees. We went at night so there was no view at all. But we got to go out into one of the little 2 people alcoves and could only see lights through trees so I can only imagine that all of the daytime photos are taken with zoom and at an angle. We had a reservation and were left standing at the host table for 20 minutes before the host came out. It was Saturday night at 7 p.m. The restaurant wasn't full at all. The only other people seated were a wedding party that consisted of less than 15 people and the restaurant was empty otherwise. Apparently what took so long was that they were getting a to-go salad ready for a local, but I honestly didn't know that something like that took so much attention. When we finally were seated, we were being attended to by what seemed to be a bus boy. He said he would be getting our drinks while our waiter took care of the wedding party. After having our drinks for a while and having no one come by our table, the bus boy came back and told us that he was just informed that he would be our waiter for the evening. The person who was supposed to be our actual waiter came by after we ate our food to "check on us." The service the entire time was way too slow for only our table and a party of about 12 to be the only ones seated in the restaurant. And definitely unorganized when there were several waiters there, but a random bus boy was designated to serve us. The food was honestly just ok. Not worth the cost. read more

We visited Estes Park in early August, an ideal time to visit. The View restaurant, attached to our hotel Crags Lodge, was very well maintained and the service was quick. We struck up a conversation with the owner Michael, who was very personable. He was extremely open about the business, its hours, which included high and low times. You could tell he was proud of The View restaurant. it was a pleasure speaking with Michael, but it's food and service you're probably most interested in reading about. Food came quickly, and we had no complaints. We cleaned our plates all while enjoying a beautiful view to the mountains. As a bonus - Michael shared some of his family's takes on Whiskey drinks with me, which was a nice touch. If you're visiting, ask for his family's Old Fashioned! We vowed to come back. read more

Both the food and service here are excellent. The views from the windows were expansive and beautiful. We were a party of 9 and they seated us promptly with a reservation made just an hour before. Host requested that our party limit the choice of entrees to 3 so that everything would come out together. This turned out to be a non issue for our family as most of us ordered the rainbow trout which was delicious. The peach cobbler is out of this world. Visited The View two times while staying at the Historic Crags Lodge. The food was great. We had everything from the burger, chicken, spinach artichoke empanadas, lamb quesadilla and cobbler w/ice cream. One dish better than the next. Empanadas=gotta have. Cobbler, too. Wayne and Aki are great servers here and made mealtime very enjoyable. The whole restaurant serving staff was impressive and attentive, right on top of things. This is officially my new favorite place in Estes Park for dinner! Located at the Crag's resort above Riverside Drive, the View is nestled like a treehouse in the soaring Pine trees looking over Estes Park Valley. Embellished with wood paneling, wood floors, with huge windows spanning a huge dining room, you have stepped back into an old-school lodge setting! There are three pop out mini patios set with small tables - (call and make a reservation for one of these right away!) and a large dining room with beautiful tables. We were super lucky and got one of the little outdoor patios all to ourselves! Very romantic... Our server, Aldane, was exceptional and gracious like a top-tier restaurant anywhere in the world. Our food matched our service - we had the mushrooms in butter appetizer and Caesar salad for starters. They were so great we forgot to take pictures. I had the Grouper special served with root vegetables- my portion was huge and my fish was fresh and delicious. Boyfriend had the lamb shank served with rainbow cauliflower. I will be back for the lamb shank which is on the menu all the time. It was falling off the bone tender and delicious and just the right seasoning. Wow. We split a bottle of Prosecco and enjoyed the perfect Estes Park weather on the perfect little patio for a really perfect little dinner. This restaurant could easily set the bar in Estes Park! The dinning room is pretty big...best tables are along the windows. We got a table for 2 on one of the little balconys...that was very nice. Besides us there were maybe 8 other people in the restaurant. Service was very friendly but very slow. The food was ok..the menu is not very big...i had the burger with fries....burger was good...fries wayyyy to salty. If you want to get away from the crowded Estes Park it is a good choice...just bring time and enjoy the view read more

We had the pleasure of having dinner on the balcony for our anniversary. The view is quite nice -- you can see downtown Estes, twin owls and the Stanley from these balconies. When we first arrived I noted it was a Friday night dinner service and the restaurant was less than 1/4 full, which didn't set expectations high but we kept an open mind. We waited awhile to be seated and service throughout the entire dinner continued to be slow. To start the meal off we ordered the spinache artichoke empanadas and a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was fine, however, when the empanadas arrived there was a thin layer of burnt balsamic that was too stuck to the plate to be able to dip with, and the spinache was on the side cooked as chips, not apart of the filling which was misleading. The filling itself was underwhelming and not particularly well seasoned, however it did have a nice creamy texture and the pastry crust was flakey. For the entrees my husband and I ordered the 32 oz. Tomahawk steak cooked medium well to share, and our daughter ordered the country style chicken. Both entrees were accompanied by mashed potatoes and asparagus. When the entrees came out the food runner said we ordered medium (we had not, and our receipt even said medium rare) and then continued to explain that the tomahawk was not evenly cooked so different parts would be medium well to rare throughout and blamed it on the size of the cut. My husband and I have had tomahawk at a few restaurants before and have never had an issue with a high end restaurant cooking it correctly Aka evenly. The quality of the cut of steak itself was not worth the price tag in the slightest. The "steak sauce" served along side it was basically seasoned brown gravy and the mashed potatoes were bland and contained whole chunks of potato about golf ball size. The asparagus was so undercooked it was practically raw and I could hear it crunch across the table when my husband bit into it. Our daughter had the same issue with the potatoes and asparagus that was on her plate, and her country style chicken had horse radish for some reason which was not described on the menu. She found the flavor so overpowering that she had to scrape off the chicken and eat it bare with ketchup. We were also disappointed at the size of the piece of chicken which was not a breast or substantial piece but instead a very thin cutlet which did not hold up to the 17.95 price tag they attached. I've honestly had better food at Applebee's. We witnessed another table also complain while we were eating our meal so we know it was not just us. With all of that being said, the dishes did have a nice presentation and the lodge is a very cool place to checkout. My advice would be to save your money, skip the meal, and just grab a glass of wine or a cocktail while you enjoy the view. read more

My wife and I chose the view for a special night out- our final night on this visit to Estes Park. Could not have been a better experience. The restaurant is on a bluff high above the city in the Historic Crags Inn. Really cool place. After dinner we sat outside on the swing to enjoy the beautiful grounds and sunset. For our dinner we sat at one of the balcony tables on the edge of the dining room. This gave us an Incredible view of the town And Rocky Mountains beyond. It is worth the price of dinner to enjoy two hours at that table. Amazing. Now to dinner. Wonderful! We had the spinach artichoke empanadas as an appetizer. So flavorful and truly delicious start to the meal. We shared an entree. Grilled salmon- large piece prepared exactly as we requested ( We prefer fish medium rare). A great choice- served with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. We finished with the peach cobbler. Wow! Tasty and the perfect end to the evening. Wayne was our server. Very attentive, but never intrusive. Just the right balance. Prices are reasonable for this quality of meal and certainly worth every penny. We plan to return to Estes Park and will definitely include THE VIEW on our list of "must do" experiences. read more

This place gets a couple of stars, because the service was very friendly and attentive (Zee was a great waitress), and because they were accommodating when we sent the food back. It's also a very cool building, with the lodge constructed circa 1910, and there's lots of interesting photos and items to look at in the restaurant. To start, reservations are required here. I called the night before to get a reservation and was told the earliest we could be seated for a party or two was 8:20, so I agreed. I received a text the next day asking to confirm my reservation for 8:00pm and i said I was happy to come earlier than originally planned. We showed up at 7:40 expecting to wait, and only two of the twenty or so tables had guests at them. The place was basically completely empty. I asked the hostess if a big event had just cleared out but she said no. So that was strange. I asked for a mocktail to drink and was told they don't have mocktails. I should have just left it at that instead of taking them up on their offer to "try" to make one. I ended up with a glass of what tasted like sprite mixed with several scoops of powdered lemonade mix. The menu is fairly small and simple. We got a Cesar salad and ribeye, ordered medium rare. The steak came out purple on the inside, and for the first time in my life I had to send food back to the kitchen. They were extremely nice about it, and brought out a new one ten minutes later cooked medium rare. Steak fries and Caesar salad were nothing special. I'm sure the charm of this place is to come when you can actually see the view that the restaurant was named for, and unfortunately we missed out on that. But without the view, this place was not anything great. read more

My wife and I ate dinner here September 23, 2021 during our brief stay in Estes Park. We were able to sit at one of the few outdoor balcony seating areas just off the main dining room. This gave us a wonderful view. We started with a salad which we split. This was very good. My wife had the Colorado lamb chops. These were seasoned with a heavy mix of seasoning which seemed too thick and overpowered the flavor of the lamb. I had the Rib eye. This was excellent, particularly since it came with delicious au jus. Both meals came with carrots which seemed underdone. I asked for wild rice instead of potatoes and this was bland. All in all, in spite of our comments, we really enjoyed the meal and ambiance. Our server Desirae was fantastic! Helpful, attentive and cheerful. We were waited on as soon as we were seated and the courses were served at the proper intervals. read more

We went to The View with a large party of 12 and had a fabulous dinner. The atmosphere is so cozy; there is a large living area with a stone fire place, chairs and couches connected to the dinging room and bar area - a perfect Colorado feel. Across our party we ordered all apps, the filet, salmon, chicken and ribeye and everyone's food was wonderful. The filet was the group's favorite - it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We checked out the menu online from their direct website, and were a little disappointed to find one of the entrees was no longer available. It was one of the reasons we went to visit. After placing our order, we learned that they were out of two out of the three entrees we wanted to order. This will a little surprising, but the three we ordered ended up being decent substitutes. We had the Sweet Corn and Zucchini fritters for an appetizer, they were crisped to perfection with a delightful sweetness. For entrees we had the Duck Confit (extremely good, amazing sauce), Chicken (good), and pasta (average). I would definitely go back. Had they had all the entrees we were looking for (lobster lasagna, short ribs, and Scottish salmon), this would have definitely been five star. After reading previous reviews, we expected dinner to take forever and were prepared for that. The server was so wonderful, and we experienced no service lags or lengthy delays. We cannot say enough good things about Michael Hanson and "The View". He helped accommodate our small wedding party and gave us the intimate and special dinner we had hoped for. He was responsive by email, always replying within a day or two. He helped us customize our menu, we were able to have appetizers ready to be served when we arrived, and perfectly timed a champagne toast we had requested. And then the food... drool... was amazing. Planning a wedding from 800+ miles is no joke, but Michael made the wedding dinner seamless and fantastic. We will be back and we will recommend The View to anyone traveling to Estes Park.
