I've been coming here for years and can't believe I've never left a review. The Whelan (formerly The Tavern) is my favorite bar in Atlanta. The entire staff is super friendly (Justin, Kalyn, and Brett greet me by name), the wings are some of the best in Atlanta, and the beer selection is solid. If you get bored easily, there are tournament-grade pool tables, for the truly discerning pool shark, as well as dart boards, and plenty of TVs. The Whelan features poker, trivia, and karaoke nights as well. I'm not a big fan of the adjacent Apex apartment complex, but let me be clear, it's worth living there just because it is right next to this amazing establishment. My husband and I came here after Twisted Soul was at capacity. The Whelan is more like a pub instead of a restaurant. Plenty of free street parking is available. There's a large bar inside with seating, a few tables, and several pool tables. Music was playing inside ranging from hip hop to rock to alternative. The music isn't clean, but the atmosphere is laid back though. You just go in and seat yourself. It wasn't crowded at all. Some people were there watching The Falcons game. The menu was interesting. They offer mostly American dishes with a few African dishes on the menu. On Sunday they have bottomless mimosas so we were glad to come on a Sunday. Our waitress was fun and personable. We had the sweet chilli wings as an appetizer. They were crispy and the sauce was very good. I had fish and chips and my husband had a cheeseburger and fries. My husband said his cheeseburger was excellent. The fish was ok to me. I thought there was just way too much breading and not enough seasoning on the fish. The fries were good though. We love it here !! Whelan is our go-to Bar- we are here a few times/week hands down. Jesse / Justin / Brett are veteran staff here and they treat us wonderful. There is a nice food menu selection and we intend to try other food items, but we cannot get enough of their Thai Chilli Wings & Fries with Cheese Dip. It's all that we ever want lol. Originally, we use to go to Bone Lick next door, but they have closed the west midtown bar about 6 months ago. So, we needed another neighborhood favorite. Whelan was an instant match. No idea how busy it gets on the weekends, but it is very chill during the week, and there are good vibes all around. The bar staff are very friendly and inviting, the food is just right for a bar, and they have great industry night deals! Really liked this place. Rather large with and upper and lower part, pool tables, darts, poker tables. Also outdoor seating. Atmosphere was great. Staff and customers were very friendly. I ordered the Flat Iron Frites through Ubereats. The meat was green! Not sure it comes through clearly in photos. Not only was meat green but it smelled bad! Person I spoke w said he'd refund price for dish but that's not even the point. HOW DID THIS EVEN GET SENT OUT OF THE KITCHEN? The OWNER is a complete ass whole. 20 days later from visiting this restaurant and I still can not believe that the owner (Jayson) confronted me about a review I left on yelp before leaving. He is very disrespectful. This is a local bar but the owner is not from the USA so he doesn't care about CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would even donate food from this restaurant due to the owner. The only good thing is the bartender is as sweet as Gold. I wish her much success in life but the owner needs a bar manager instead of trying to run the establishment hisself. Excellent selection of beers on tap, wooden classic feel on the inside, billiards & darts, and typically a fun crowd. Just had lunch here. My coworker and I were concerned when we walked in on a Monday, at noon and the place is empty. But the waiter was courteous and professional. Our drinks showed up quickly and the wait for food was 10-15 minutes. I ordered the spinach salad with grilled chicken and it was very good! If you like salads, I recommend this one. Spinach, apples, bacon, goat cheese, pickled onions, etc. My coworker had a burger and was very happy with it. I recommend this restaurant. Great local pub! The beer selections are really good... lots local and a very nice amount of brews on tap, and the staff are really friendly. We've been several times since they opened and are impressed with the step up in food options. Friends I've gone with give the fish and chips, curry, and pork chops very high reviews. I personally can tell you the fries are tasty, the Mac and cheese side is satisfying and the Whelan salad is a great vegetarian option. The restaurant formerly known as Corner Tavern. Now ya'll know Corner Tavern was my SPOT(I think I have like 3 updated reviews on this place)! I had a (pregnancy) craving for some fried pickles one night so the hubster and I decided to go to our fave pub. We parked and walked in as usual without noticing the sign on the building; sat down across from the bar, chatted a little bit and took a look at the menu. I noticed that it was different from the CT's menu but didn't put too much thought into it. Once I flipped the menu over twice I realized the name change. Ummmm what happened to Corner Tavern?!?! I was a little reluctant to stay but we had already ordered our drinks. I really wanted to drink my tea and be out but decided to give The Whelan a chance. The waitress came over "is everything ok?" I replied, "well I'm a little confused by this menu - its different and I wanted fried pickles". She explained the recent changes that happened 2 months prior to our visit and assured us that we would like the menu. We ordered the Chips & Salsa to start off with. The salsa was clearly housemade. The tomatoes were fresh and firm, not too juicy. After bringing out our appetizer, the waitress further explained that they were testing out of some the items on the menu and recommended the veggie burger - that's about the only thing that I could eat off the menu anyway. I frowned when I saw the fried egg. I never had a fried egg on a burger before but heard how good it was on beef, not a veggie burger. She said that she once felt that way but now she loves fried eggs on burgers. Anyway, I trusted her judgment. Booooy I was glad that I did. I cut the burger in half and the aroma was amazing. I took a bite and completely fell in love with the Asian concoction going on in one burger! I had to let her know that she was right about the burger with the fried egg. Im so disappointed now to learn that the burger didn't made it to the permanent menu. What a bummer. I don't see anything else on the menu that appeals to me honestly so I'm not sure that I will be back. read more
